The Mistletoe Spin Group #6
Group 6
THE RULES:Reducio
- All PCs and iNPCs are welcome to join this event, but must have signed up and been assigned to a group. Please only post in a group to which you have been assigned.
- Each round will last the duration of 1 song and will be moderated once per week.
- At the end of each round (week), the song will end and students will find themselves paused with a new partner. Some pairs will find themselves paused under a floating sprig of mistletoe, and others will be spared from the embarrassment! If you and your partner find yourselves under the mistletoe, you're supposed to kiss... but whether you choose to is completely up to you.
- You may post as many times as you like per round to do unmoderated actions such as talking and dancing, but you only get ONE moderated action (kissing, hexing, punching, etc.) per round, so spend it wisely.
- Failure to post in a round will result in your character freezing and declining any actions that come their way (such as kisses). Failure to post in more than one round may result in your character being removed from the game.
- Note that all IC rules still apply, as do all site rules and ratings, so behave yourselves!
In addition to the variety of differently-decorated tents scattered across the magically snowy ground of the London Quidditch Stadium, those exiting their temporary residences on the evening of Friday, August 2nd would have been greeted with a lovely sight. Several small, rectangular dance floors were set up earlier that afternoon in various points around the stadium, and each was now decorated and gave off a golden glow. Those curious as to their use could approach to find that each dance floor was guarded by a post bearing a list of carefully calligraphed names. It seems that today's guest lists are regulated to ensure certain dancers end up on certain floors.
Each dance floor was set up to appear exactly the same, without any fear of getting a "better" location for the evening's mistletoe ball, this year's version of the ever-popular Twirl the Flagon game that has occurred at summer camps past each year. Only when one approached the area bearing their name could they move past the outside barrier and onto the dance floor.
The rectangular floor itself appeared reminiscent of a chessboard, with golden and brown diamonds emitting a soft, warm glow from below, as though each tile sat upon a miniature sun that was simply bursting to escape. Similarly, those who touched the floor would find that it was slightly warmed to stave off the surrounding snow, which also fell lightly from enchanted clouds above. The floor was also lined with flickering candles on the two longest sides - careful not to catch your fragile evening gowns or dress robes in their flames!
Nearby, an enchanted string quartet of instruments play a lovely, if somewhat fast-paced, waltz on their own without a single musician among them. Above the floor, if one were to glance skyward, their view of a wonderfully starry night sky would be partially blocked by floating objects. Upon closer inspection, about half of these seemingly randomly placed unidentified fliers would be found to be candles, while the other half would be small, greenish bundles each lit with an interior golden glow. The promised mistletoe for the mistletoe ball.
One final detail, beautifully enchanted by magic far beyond students' puny reaches, would await those who took even a single step onto the glowing dance floor. Was it a mild form of the Dancing Feet Spell, Tarantallegra? Or perhaps some other, unknown charm? Either way, those who wandered onto the dance floor would find themselves whisked into a fast-paced, whirling dance for which they somehow magically knew all of the steps. Each dancer will also change partners multiple times in a single song, so you may not even know who you end up dancing with, but they too will know the steps from the enchantment. Never fear if you've never danced before - you will dance today!
Just be careful - for when the music stops and so do your pounding feet, you may find yourself under a floating candle and be safe, or you may find yourself under one of the hovering bundles of mistletoe with a strange partner. Will you choose to follow the mandate of the mistletoe and kiss them, or will you choose to break the rule?
This event takes place, IC, on AUGUST 2.
Moderations will occur EVERY SATURDAY.
Mods will not occur at the same time each week, so make sure you post before Saturdays to ensure your post gets in!

Although EmmaLee has sworn off any kissing games after the violent disaster that was her first Spin the Bottle during the summer camp of 2022, she really couldn't turn down a dance. So here she was getting ready for the Mistletoe Spin. She knew that mistletoe pretty much had a universal reputation for being kissed under, though she had learned after moving to America that this was generally a couples' thing done on Christmas in most countries. She had spent many a New Year's giving her mother, and half the village, a kiss on the cheek to wish a good year under the mistletoe when she lived in France. Her mother told her that mistletoe, which they grew in their garden and usually provided for the New Year's Eve party, represented good luck, peace, and fertility. Her mother grew mistletoe for its medical properties and it was particularly beneficial for the elderly woman in the village.
As far as Spin the Bottle or "Twirl the Flagon", EmmaLee hadn't really known that it was a kissing game, but she knew now and steered clear. It just seemed to invite too much conflict both during and after. With all of that in mind, EmmaLee figured that The Mistletoe Spin was a relatively safe kissing game where she could just dance and not think about the kissing part. Although, what was the implication of wishing good luck for the new year halfway through it?
EmmaLee shook her thoughts from her head and pulled a yellow dress over her head. When she had seen the itinerary for the camp and saw like many others that she had woefully underprepared for this wintery camp, she had owled her mother to send her some warmer clothes and a dress for this dance. It was a long-sleeved yellow dress and she decided to wear a warm pair of black tights and her brown hiking boots under it. As she put up her hair, she giggled and chatted with Kaya, who had also signed up for the dance. It seemed that most of Cygnus tent had signed up, but the guys were getting ready in another part of the tent or completely somewhere else.
Once they were ready, EmmaLee and Kaya exited the tent arm in arm, still chatting and getting more excited as they approached the area. Once there, they saw that everyone had been split into smaller groups. Sadly, Kaya and Yasha had been assigned to a different group, so Kaya headed off to that dancefloor, while EmmaLee, Zophyr, Stephen, and Miles had all been assigned to the same dancefloor. As she saw Linda Ramirez' name, as well, and Alyssea Brown from her first duel, EmmaLee smiled, even more excited that she had been placed with quite a number of her friends.
As she stepped onto the dance floor, she could feel the magic move through her legs and giggled as she started to dance without really knowing the steps. As others began to step onto the dance floor, EmmaLee began to recognize the dance, at least a little, and the theme of the activity began to come together for her. It was a little like musical chairs, where they would dance around and switch partners, presumably until the music stopped, and end up where they ended up with whomever they ended up with. Theoretically, this meant EmmaLee could go the whole game without kissing anyone! EmmaLee beamed and laughed as she danced for a moment with seemingly everyone at least once as they were all coaxed magically around the dancefloor.
As the music wound down, EmmaLee was passed from one partner into the hands of one Miles Thatcher as he was passed onto her from his previous partner. "'Ello, Miles." She said brightly as her arms moved up of their own accord to take his hands and the dance continued a bit longer. "Are you 'aving fun?" She asked, a little breathless as everyone slowed to a stop and the music ended. EmmaLee giggled a little and looked up to see a lovely candle dangling above their heads. "I think this might be my favorite camp so far."
As she spoke, EmmaLee felt something warm drop onto her shoulder and she looked over to see that a small pile of white wax had dropped from the candle above them. She raised an eyebrow and reached up to pull the already solidified, but still warm in the middle, bit of wax off of the bare part of her shoulder. Why would the candles drip like this? Weren't they enchanted just like the Hogwarts candles? Those candles hadn't dripped onto anyone in hundreds of years.
"Maybe, we should move to the side a bit." She said, voice still filled with curious confusion as she examined the piece of wax. "It seems that they didn't quite cast the charm right and some of the candles are melting." EmmaLee held the solid wax up to Miles for his inspection and moved slightly to the left to get out from under the candle.

| After the lack of chaos at the spring ball, save for the drinks being spiked and Zach being a maniac, Alyssea felt slightly better about dances. She had always liked them before; it was a shame one bad night had her actively avoiding the rest unless people wanted her to go. That was the only reason she went to the spring ball, after all. Landon had become a buddy, of sorts. Her cousin, Raizel, had opted out of the Mistletoe Spin for more thrilling activities (not that Alyssea would blame her; they looked fun!) that Alyssea decided she wouldn't touch. Her other cousin... Astra was around, right? Alyssea hadn't spoken to her in a hot minute. But that was besides the point. When it came to finding a buddy for the more 'quiet' activities, Landon was her first choice. She felt safe with him and, considering everything that happened in the last year, that was important to her. For someone who was originally outgoing and very friendly, a select few were the only ones allowed to be close to her these days. What intrigued Alyssea with this Mistletoe Spin was the multiple dance floors across the stadium. Were they not all dancing together? Apparently not, as she found herself in a group of twelve people. Most of them were foreign students, with Landon sticking by her (thank the gods. She would go back to the tent if they weren't) and a few familiar faces. If anything went to chaos, she could trust in EmmaLee to back her up like they used to when Alyssea still duelled. Same could be said for Linda after seeing her on the broom racing track. Donning her cream and pink dress, Alyssea entered the floor with Landon. Whatever conversation they had coming into the place would be forgotten as a dance whisked her away. Did they charm the dance floor? Maybe she missed out on the fine print of the Mistletoe Spin because this meant this was more than just a dance. Still, Alyssea laughed and let herself dance. It had been a while since she let herself do this again. She passed by many faces as the song went on, but when it started to die down, she came face to face with a short-haired brunet with piercing blue eyes. Not someone Alyssea knew at all, which meant he was definitely a foreign student. I hope he speaks English. She took a quick moment to see what happened to everyone else, intrigued by the sight of everyone standing in pairs. Landon wound up with a white-haired person that wasn't EmmaLee. It was then she found various candles and mistletoes hanging above each pair as if... As if it was on purpose. This was definitely more than just a dance. What was the superstition with mistletoes, again? Kiss the person you find yourself with under it or end up with bad luck for the next year. The thought of bad luck unnerved Alyssea. She already had some pretty bad luck in sports and at the fall ball, even moreso with Clark. But she didn't really want to kiss a guy she just met. For a moment, Alyssea remembered Landon was under a mistletoe, too. The dread dropped onto her shoulders like she was back under the Great Lake again. If anyone needed bad luck, it wasn't him and she hoped his partner would find some sort of compromise. Clearing her throat and catching her breath, Alyssea turned to her own partner. "Nice to meet you. What's your name? I'm Alyssea, from Hogwarts." She quickly bowed her head. |

July 15, 2024 (00:14)It was now spin the bottle but more Christmas-y. Kanae had joined a similar kind of game last summer camp and she won a fair amount of beans. So naturally she wanted to join the new, improved, and official version. The Mahoutokoro girl also signed up Ara for this game. With the other girl's minimal consent. Thankfully, they weren't in the same group so they wouldn't have to worry about kissing each other (ew). Kanae wore a princess coat made for colder weather paired with black boots, fingerless gloves, and a beret.
She made her way to the dance floor which had her name on the post nearby. She didn't recognise any other name on the post besides her own. The dance floor itself looked like a board you would play chess on except it was being illuminated by diamonds from below and with the candles it was lined by. Kanae noticed that the floor itself didn't have any snow on it, wonder why. The brunette looked around to see a string quartet playing a fast-paced waltz. 'I really like this, It sounds wonderful! I want to play it by myself' she thought. 'Sad there aren't any people actually playing it that I could ask...' The girl thought in english mainly because she was in an English speaking country and not a Japanese speakinng one. Its just a way for her to get used to full English better.
Looking up, she saw snow falling along with candles and the famous mistletoe most wanted to avoid. Though for Kanae she didn't really mind. The girl wanted to go for something exotic but deep inside she knew she'd probably dodge any kiss that comes in the way of her lips.
The music started, the fast pace really encouraged the adrenaline. Though she swore she hasn't danced much in her life, she somehow knew all the steps. It was fortunate mainly because she didn't want to fall on her face while dancing. The music then abruptly stopped. Kanae had ended up with a slightly older guy who was rather tall. The poor girl almost broke her neck looking up at him. Thankfully, they weren't under a misltetoe. It would've been really awkward if they were. "You good?" she said in her Japanese accent. Kanae hasn't practiced much English in a while so her pronunciation is a bit off.RP Word Count: 391/200

Whatever possessed him to subject himself to a round of what amounted to this summer camp's version of "Spin the Bottle" after Spin the Flagon a couple of years back at Pirate camp was a mystery. A complete and utter mystery. Okay. It wasn't really a mystery. It was her. He was excited to see a dance was part of the itinerary, but upon reading about the event, he noticed the focus would be less on dancing and more on the nerve-wracking possibility of "sucking face" as his friends back home called it.
Sigh
What he did like about it was that it was once again a themed event, so he had gotten in touch with his father that very first day of camp and requested warmer clothes and a Regency Style outfit for the dance. All had arrived within a day or two of having asked, so he was set. The tent had areas of privacy, but he had not carved out any particular place of his own as EmmaLee had. He never took long to get ready for anything, so he had decided to stay out of the tent until the girls had done their thing and had gotten ready.
He sat reading one of his textbooks outside, but when he heard EmmaLee and Kaya giggling and chittering away as they exited the tent, he snapped his book closed and hustled inside to get ready. The outfit his father sent was impressive, mostly because his father had been able to send something that would represent Ilvermorny's blue and cranberry school colors. Besides, Stephen was never one to turn down a cosplay opportunity, so it was all good. The tent was mostly quiet as he got ready, but he did look around for Miles.
They had been in a few events together, but Miles had been keeping to himself a lot. He tended to do that naturally, and it didn't help that Stephen had been spending most of his free time studying and preparing for the robotics competition at the end of August. A few quick brushes through his hair and he was ready. Now he just needed to get to the dance floor. This time there would be no cute little plans to keep him and EmmaLee apart, for his part anyway.
As he walked to where the dance floor was, he was momentarily taken by surprise to find that there were multiple dance floors. He reached the first one and read the names on the post. He recognized a few names, but did not see his name at all. He also did not see EmmaLee's name. That much was good, but then a horrible thought hit him. What if they were not even part of the same group?
He hurried to find the other enchanted dance floors, and at each successive one, he read neither his name nor hers on the entry posts. He had found five thus far, and as he was starting to approach the sixth one, his heart began to jackhammer within his chest. He didn't have to read the post to know that EmmaLee had been assigned here, and she was already dancing. He stood back in the cloak of darkness watching her, and he could not help but smile. She was smiling and laughing and dancing with extraordinary elegance. He was not aware that she was familiar with dances of this time period, and then he noticed that everyone was dancing with equal aplomb, like they all knew the dance.
He listened for a moment and recognized it as a waltz, but it was not a slow waltz. This had some kick to it. Last time he danced a waltz he had to do it backwards. If he could manage that, then surely dancing this, as the normal lead position, but at a faster pace, should be a piece of cake. He stood still and continued to watch the festive display. Yes, he enjoyed watching EmmaLee, but for now, as long as he stood there, he was living his very own Schrödinger's cat thought experiment; his name was both on and not on that post. The moment he was to make a move to read it, possibility would be replaced with reality, and what if he did not like the reality?
Time for the big boy trousers, Schwartz.
He took a deep breath and calmly walked over to the post. It took next to no time at all to see his name, and a huge smile spread across his face. He tugged on the back of his jacket to assure a straight, wrinkle free profile and then he stepped onto the floor. Without even having to think about it, he seamlessly joined the other dancers and found he was as adept at the steps and nuanced moves as they all had been as he had watched them from afar. No one was dancing with just one partner, so he came into contact with a couple of new faces to him. He smiled by way of greeting them all as their paths crossed, but his biggest smile appeared upon finally encountering EmmaLee.
"Good evening, Miss LeDames. A pleasure to see your smiling face here this evening." He would normally have bowed, and he knew she would have curtsied, but his dancing feet seemed to have a mind of their own right now, so there was none of that formality to be offered. This dancing game was all business it would seem. She shyly beamed at him and they were each off to their next partner before more could be shared.
As he left her and danced on, the music suddenly stopped, and so did his feet. Ah! So this was a musical chairs kind of take on the classic. Interesting. He looked down at the lovely girl before him and smiled and nodded. "I'm good, thank you. And you? Are you enjoying yourself?" He was a bit taller than she, and by her calm demeanor, he figured she must have scoped out the fact that no mistletoe was hanging over their heads as she was already having to look up at him. What a relief that would be, but he felt the compulsive need to look for himself to make certain. Whew! Nothing but a candle. So far so good.
Since the music had stopped, he did do a 20 degree, half waist bow in her direction. "It's very nice to meet you. My name is Stephen Schwartz, by the way. Your accent sounds as if you might be here from Mahoutokoro, but I don't want to assume that to be the case. I attend Durmstrang, just in case you were assuming my American accent would place me at Ilvermorny." His smile lit up his face as his eyes twinkled mischievously, but his voice carried his little ruse forward for the moment with a good deal of feigned earnestness before he shook his head and chuckled. "I'm only kidding. I really do attend Ilvermorny, so assume what you will from that factoid."
He broke eye contact with the girl just long enough to see that EmmaLee had been stopped with none other than his buddy Miles. His eyes immediately shot up to see that no mistletoe hung over their heads either, but there was a candle dripping wax upon them. Well, that would be annoying.
But not nearly as annoying as if there had been mistletoe hanging above their heads.

❅ Dancing was something Astrid did every since she knew how to walk. Coming from a rich pureblood family, she had to learn how to waltz and ballroom dances in general. But she danced with her sister all the time, danced around fire camps, danced with her friends, her family, alone. She loved to dance, anywhere, anytime, with anyone. Formal dances tho... She loved them too, they are opportunities to have a good time with friends. It just wasn't the same vibe as dancing in the woods or at home, like she wanted with who she wanted. But still, that dance could be fun. Plus, it was a sort of spin the bottle, so it could be very interesting.
Astrid was wearing white for the occasion. An off the shoulders crop top with billowy long sleeves, and a long high-waisted skirt. With that she was wearing her sun necklace and white platform converse. She was short, yes, but she will not bother herself to wear heels. It's like that that she got out of the tent that she shared with other Durmstrang, wand in her pocket. Finding the dancefloor she was assigned too, she read the names on the list. Shit, she didn't recognize any. But that didn't mean anything, the girl had to be told names several times to memorize them, maybe she'll recognize a few people.
Stepping onto the dancefloor, she immediately felt magic running through her body. "come on, I can't even dance how I want to?" Astrid had had hope for this. Maybe that event could happen how she wanted it to happen. But as it had been confirmed several times now, Hogwarts' events were either dangerous, annoying, or both. Except Quidditch, Hogwarts' Quidditch events were cool. So yeah, being forced to dance a certain way, even if it was a waltz that the girl knew how to dance, was annoying. Smile on, she danced in a way that wasn't her, and that pissed her off a little, but hey, she had just arrived and she was here to have fun.
Looking around as she danced at the fast-paced rhythm of the music, the girl started to recognize some faces. Faces she hadn't seen since camp, two years ago in the same place. There was that girl over there, with a yellow dress, she has a french accent if Astrid remembers correctly. Then there was that guy, an Ilvermorny that just greeted the first girl. These two were in the same tent as her two years ago. That had been really weird, especially with the prank war against the Horntail Horde tent. So she did "know" some people here. Great. Then the music stopped, and Astrid found herself under a candle, in front of a bright red haired girl, that was slightly taller than her. "Hi!" ❅

There were so many unexpected things when one came to a summer camp for magical schools when held at the London Quidditch Stadium. They were never camping and they were never centered around quidditch. This particular term seemed quite odd with all the cold and snowy weather but he applauded those that organized it for their originality.
After spending the first part of his summer in not so perfect conditions, he welcomed anything and everything, signing up for just about every activity - including this dance. When you were pureblood and of a high standing family, you attended many balls since an early age and Miles Thatcher knew he'd have no problem dancing - although finding his particular dance floor might be another matter.
But once found, the music began and he moved about the dance floor, taking note that some of his cabinmates were on his same place. Hopefully there wasn't something too terribly upsetting or embarrassing about this event or he may never live it down. When the music stopped, he was stood right next to EmmaLee LeDames and he smiled to her. "I am enjoying myself," he said to her, and it was no lie - he was more than he had that summer and more than he had in previous summer camps. Maybe it was a matter of mindset.
Just as he was about to ask how she was, the wax dripped down upon them and he looked up, wondering why they didn't use dripless candles and as another bit of wax began to fall, he placed his hand out to safeguard her from it and the hot wax dropped to the palm of his hand but avoided the girl. "Yes, moving over here would be best," he laughed and since his one hand still was on her waist, he gently guided her over. "It's too early in the evening to be cooped up in the medical tent."
Be kind to one another. (*iNPC is Miles Thatcher)

EmmaLee chuckled as Miles agreed with her and lifted his hand to prevent another drop of wax from hitting her shoulder. "Thank you, my good sir." She said, picking up the skirt of her dress and fanning it out in a mock curtsy as they scooted out from under the candle. "I would like to never see the inside of a hospital tent at this camp again." She said with another small giggle, alluding to her injury during the Prank Wars of their first camp together, EmmaLee's first camp at all.
It occurred to her how little she had interacted with Miles. He had been friendly, but also very quiet and solitary during the camp two summers ago. Further, she hadn't come across him at any of the balls since, nor the summer camp last year. While she had been fairly busy during those times, she felt a little bad for not at least trying to say hello.
"I'm a little sad that camp is over in a little over a week." She said, a little absentmindedly as she looked around at the other pairs. Stephen had paired up with a pretty girl who looked like she was from Mahoutokoro and they looked like they were having a pleasant conversation while they all waited for the next song to start.
Linda had paired with a white-haired girl and, upon further inspection, EmmaLee recognized her as the Durmstrang girl, Astrid, who had originally been in the tent with EmmaLee, Miles, and Stephen, among others, during that dreadful event. Though EmmaLee hadn't exactly been a part of the conflict, everyone in their tent had been pranked except for Astrid and some of the other tentmates had gotten mad about it, so she had ended up leaving and joining the Durmstrang tent.
Especially by this point, EmmaLee had no qualms against the girl specifically, but she had pretty much decided to avoid the Durmstrang students as much as possible for the rest of her life. They always seemed to take the smallest thing up to thirty and EmmaLee was not about to get in the crosshairs of that ever again. From what she remembered, though, Astrid had been polite and quiet herself, so hopefully, she could avoid the girl, or their encounter would be awkward, but fine.
EmmaLee scanned over the rest of the pairs: Zophyr, Alyssea, a boy she knew from Hufflepuff, but had never really interacted with named Landon, and turned back to Miles. "Do you have any plans for the few weeks after camp?" She asked, looking up at him curiously.

Of course, his lack of knowledge of what mistletoe was, and the tradition that it was involved in was his first mistake. It wasn’t as if he was into herbology like his little brother Oscar, who despite only graduating his first year, already seemed to be a master in the subject, or culture like his sister Maeve, who seemed to know everything about traditions and norms and the countries they were native to.ReducioInteracting with @Landon Matthews And Mentioning Zophyr Qethnis

Passing through the entrance, he noticed how the rectangular floor was slightly warm to the touch - a blessing considering the surrounding snow, which fell lightly from enchanted clouds above - and appeared reminiscent of a chessboard, with golden and brown diamonds emitting a soft, warm glow from below. Flickering candles lined the two longest sides and nearby, an enchanted string quartet of instruments played a fast-paced waltz; there wasn't a musician in sight. If he looked up, Ren could see the night sky, decorated with a splattering of stars and only partially blocked by floating candles and vibrant, verdant bundles of mistletoe.
And here was Ren, standing at the entrance bewildered and a little nervous, dressed to the nines in silks of varying shades of blue and white; Similar to the clip in his hair and the embroidery on his corset, his appearance suggested that of a moth, his delicate appearance softened in the warm glow of the candlelight above. He felt as if he stuck out like a sore thumb, but he had promised a lot of different family members that he’d try and come out of his shell a little more after he had spent the past two years being a wallflower, and that meant not pretending to be somebody he wasn’t by wearing coloured contacts or trying to hide in with the crowd.
His feet had barely touched the floor before he was whisked away into a fast paced whirling dance with the others on the floor, switching partners every few beats as he twirled and skipped to the beat.
This was the part he enjoyed.
Dancing was as easy to Ren as talking was to others, it was how he expressed himself; his rage, his joy, his sadness…
Movement and art were languages in their own right, and Ren Willow-Saito was fluent in most of its different forms.
That was when he saw it.
A blur of chocolate brown and bleach blonde.
He almost missed it.
Of course, it was just his luck that Ren had the fortune to end up within the same group as Zophyr Qethnis, and despite it was unable to even dance with them. He had seen the others' name on the list as he entered the floor, but amongst the twirling and spinning, he hadn't really been able to spot them until the music finally began to slow, slow, slow, until it finally came to a pause.
Zophyr, this gorgeous agile creature, just as captivating as the last time; if not more so, causing Ren’s focus on the person he'd just stopped with, a brown haired blue eyed boy that was much taller than himself, to dwindle, as the white haired boy found his gaze and mind drifting over to the other side of the dancefloor where Zophyr had stopped with a pretty looking, dark haired girl.
Suddenly Ren found himself feeling quite self-conscious. This girl looked so… normal in comparison to Ren. She was pretty and didn't have weird looking red eyes or bright white hair that for some reason, refused to take to any sort of dye.
It was then that the boy realised that he was under the mistletoe with his current dance partner. It was custom to kiss that which you end up underneath the plant with, wasn’t it? He wasn’t quite sure. Ren had never actually kissed anybody before, and he wasn’t all too keen on kissing a stranger just because he ended up beneath some random plant. It wasn’t even as if the boy before him was necessarily bad looking - and it certainly didn’t bother him that the boy before him was well, a boy - it was simply a matter of principle; Ren didn’t really feel like kissing him, because he didn’t know him.
He looked up, directly at the plant, waiting for his partner's eyes to follow him, before he looked back down at the boy, smiling politely as he covered his mouth with his hand and shook his head before signing the word ‘Sorry’ with his hands.
His eyes drifted back over to the over side of the dance floor towards Zophyr. Somehow, while the idea of having to kiss a stranger felt scary, the idea of kissing Zophyr actually felt quite pleasant; and that scared Ren even more.

When Alyssea told him about the dance and that it was based on the regency era somewhat, Landon was intrigued. He really loved history and dancing, so this sounded like the perfect event for him to join. He had been a little hesitant about some of the camp activities, but he had been excited about this one when he heard about it. He had even let his twin pick out his outfit for the dance. His parents had easily gone along with getting him a new outfit because it wasn't like Landon asked for much fashion-wise in general. With his twin Harper's help, Landon had settled on a blue regency style outfit with a brown vest and brown boots. He was hoping that he wouldn't be the only person dressed like the era the dance was loosely based on. That would be embarrassing!
Now it was the night of the dance and Landon was a bit nervous. What if he was the only one who dressed like this? What if he messed up his dancing and embarrassed himself? He dressed himself up in the outfit that he had packed and made sure that the clothes weren't wrinkled or dirty from sitting in his suitcase. He briefly messed with his hair before settling on it being left the way it normally fell because he was no good at doing his hair anyway. He really wished his twin sister would have come with him to camp so that she could help him with his clothes and hair and stuff, but Harper had been adamant about staying home.
Landon escorted Alyssea to the dance, their arms interlinked. Nothing romantic was meant by it, just Landon wanting to be a gentleman. He looked around as they walked to the dance area, his eyes wide as he looked at the dance floors. So they wouldn't be all dancing together? What was the point of all the separate floors? They started to step onto the dance floor and Landon was pulled away from Alyssea as his body started to dance without him actually making the effort himself. Landon found himself laughing excitedly as he moved, a little sad to be separated from Alyssea, but he really loved dancing, so he was pretty happy right now.
Landon spun around and switched partners as he danced, a wide smile on his face even though he was pretty shy about meeting new people. This was fun and Landon was enjoying himself even if he was surrounded by people he didn't know. Eventually the dancing stopped and he was face to face with a person who had white hair. He hesitated before looking up, his eyes wide as he took in the mistletoe. Wait... was this... Was he supposed to kiss the person? Landon flushed deeply and looked around, seeing Alyssea also paired with someone he didn't know.
Landon had never been kissed. He had never really thought about kissing much, but he knew that he wanted his first kiss to at least be with someone who he had met before. Preferably someone he had a bond with. He looked at Alyssea helplessly, not sure what to do, before turning to look at the person standing across from him. He offered him a shy smile but his eyes were still wide and nervous. The other person was shorter than him and dressed nicely, but Landon felt no desire to kiss him. He was scared that the other boy would want to fulfill the tradition.
Landon didn't care that the person was a boy or anything like that. Landon didn't care about gender or what society thought about things. He just didn't want to kiss someone who he didn't even know. He looked at the plant again when he saw his partner looking up before looking back at the other boy. He noticed that his partner covered his mouth with his hand and shook his head and Landon let out a relieved sigh. He smiled widely, noticing that the other person signed words instead of speaking. Landon didn't know sign, but he was okay with what the other person was saying. He thought for a moment before shaking his head and covering his mouth too, to signal that he was okay with this.
Landon was so thankful that his partner didn't want to kiss him. He wasn't offended in the slightest. But now Landon was worried. What if he did get paired up with someone who did want to kiss? Landon really... the only person here he could be okay with kissing was Alyssea, but even then, that would be awkward. He thought it would be anyway.
