Closed PV Laxius Remington Nice to Know You

Laxius has just completed his breakfast and is now heading back to his room to prepare for his next lesson, which is none other than History of Magic. The session begins at 9 o’clock, but Laxius is determined to arrive early to secure an ideal seat. Last time, he arrived just as the bell rang, and the only seats available were at the front and rear. Seeing the front seats as a danger zone, he chose to sit at the back, which was not a pleasant experience. The teacher's voice is more difficult to hear, but the most bothersome aspect is that Laxius can't read what the teacher writes on the board since the words are too small from the rear seats. As a result, Laxius intends to put his books and bags on his preferred seat in class and mark it for the class.

Laxius packs his belongings into his bag and proceeds to the History of Magic class. Laxius enters the classroom and is surprised to find a girl in noticeable griffindor attire seated in the second front row of seats. Laxius glanced at the clock and wondered, "Who even comes to classroom earlier than 45 minutes before class starts?". From a distance, He notices her placing her head on the table. When Laxius looks at her even more closely, he gets a feeling that he has seen her before.

In order to avoid too much awkwardness by sitting next to her, Laxius decided to sit one row behind her. But as Laxius is walking to his chosen seat, he finally able to see part of her face, but he is startled because he recognizes this girl. The girl is none other than Sere Nade, a Gryffindor student who he met during lunch at the Great Hall last week. Laxius knows that they are in the same class, but out of everyone else, she is the one he meets here. He remembers that Sere entered some competitions and science fairs or other stuffs. Combined with today’s behavior, Laxius thought “This girl is not only a genius (or at least pretty smart), but she is also very diligent and serious about study”.

Laxius smiles as he approaches Sere and greets her, "Hi Sere, it appears that we have met again. You sure come rather early today, the first one to come”. She appears to have set up her desk with some books and stationery, as if she is now ready for class to begin, indicating that she has been here for some time. Knowing it was Sere, Laxius figured he might use the coincidence to get to know her better. That is why he is asking Sere “Mind if I sit next to you?”, ready to put down his bag.

Precisely 3 PM today, I have to immediately return some books that I borrowed to the library. After that, at four until the dinner time, I have to do my Charms homework, and then... That's how noisy Sere's thoughts are every day, every time she has free time to organize her schedule.

Sere straightened her back when she heard a familiar voice behind her. "Ah, that's you." Sere looked at the empty seat to her left, "I don't mind. Please." The Gryffindor girl stacked her textbooks and tidied up her desk, making sure none of her things are scattered on Laxius' table.

Yes, the one who just greeted her was one of the Ravenclaw boys who had lunch with her in the Great Hall last week. It's a good thing that their meeting doesn't stop on only that day, proven by Laxius Remington that just greeted her again today, and he's even willing to sit next to her.

"Do you always come this early?" Sere tilted her head, then immediately answered her own question, "I don't think so. As far as I can remember, I've never seen you come this early before." The girl cleared her throat, "Ah, sorry! I mean, I almost always arrive earliest for each of my classes, so... I often observed other students who also arrive early. I didn't mean to offend you." Sere exhaled. She is obviously talking too much. It was rare to her seeing anybody coming this early, talking to her, moreover... in this - potentially super boring- History of Magic class. This boy is doing it now and this makes Sere overly excited.

"Forget about all of my nonsenses just now. The point of my question is... why are you coming this early today?" Sere clenched her teeth. Right, she's the worst at starting conversation.

Laxius instantly placed his bags on the desk next to Sere, as if he knew for certain that she would let him sit there. Laxius has just sat down and is now watching her move her stack of books away to make more room for him. Together with the concerned expression on her face, her brief response gives Laxius the sense that she is not very thrilled to see him, or that she has anticipated this encounter. Perhaps he is the only one captivated by this episode.

Just as Laxius is about to pull something out of his bag, Sere begins asking him questions regarding his early arrival, which she promptly answers on her own. For a little period, Laxius forgot about this girl's Frank and talkative personality. When she talks about herself, Laxius gets the impression that she is truly rather interested in this circumstance and his being with her.

She ultimately decides on one question: why does Laxius arrive to class so early. Laxius then tries to satisfy her endless curiosity by responding, "As you probably already know, I don't always arrive early; this one is an exception. The matter is, I want to get a good seat in this class before another student takes it. The last time I sat in the back seats, it was not pleasant. That was about me; now it's about you. " Laxius is wondering about her current situation and asks, "Soo, you always come this early, the first one to come. I see you have quite a few books here. Do you come here early to learn the history of magic? When I saw you, Sere, you appeared to have dozed off and were agitated. Is this subject the root cause, or are there others?”

Whoa, he's pretty good at observing things! Sere stared at the textbooks that are currently closed and piled up just like that in front of her. "About your question, let's see..." Sere seemed to be thinking and choosing her words, "We've only been at Hogwarts for a few months, right? When I first arrived, I didn't expect the subjects to be so different from those I got in muggle school -you already know that I'm a muggle-. Among all of my efforts to study every subjects in order to advance it ahead by trying to come as early as possible to every class and doing my self-learning routine, History of Magic..." Sere put her right palm on the textbooks, "...is the subject that made me give up the earliest. I hate memorizing, especially memorizing history." Sere folded her arms. "I agree with that frontseat-backseat thingy you just said. That's actually my second reason."

The Gryffindor girl said, "So, you came early only to tag the prefect seat? You got it, didn't you?" She changed her position to face Laxius, "Now, how about some casual questions?" Sere thought for a moment. Last week, the question about first impressions of attending Hogwarts was already asked, "Are there any activities that interest you so far? Any enjoyable things or moments for you found here?"

Laxius thought to himself after listening to her words “She has a self-learning routine for all subjects in order to advance from other students? This girl cannot be more of an ambitious learning machine”. It seems that Laxius' new friend is kind of a diligent nerd.

Laxius responds to Sere’s resentment about how tough this subject is and agrees with it “Well I couldn't agree more, History of magic can be quite boring. I'm not kidding, sometimes this subject can be unbearable. History of Magic is more about books and words, and less about spells. I sometimes wonder why we even have to study such a boring subject”. Laxius smirks as he enthusiastically tries to offer her his viewpoints ”But I kinda have a little solution that might work. I treat history as a bedtime story about heroes and warriors.”

Laxius' eyes widened as he immersed in the topic he is currently dicussing “Don't you know that this moment will also become history, that we are now living in history and creating history at this second? Every second actually. Of course, this moment wouldn't be recorded in any books, but history also resides in memory, you know. These people mentioned in the books probably do not even realize that they do create history and are being recorded into history books. The method that helps me a lot when trying to comprehend this subject is to imagine being in their position and situation. Of course, with a little topping of magic inside the story.” Laxius smiles as he tries to lighten up the mood.

Laxius hurriedly clarifies his statement, saying “Please don't misunderstand that I now like this class. I get a front seat only so that I can concentrate more on listening to the teacher, or else I will take a nap on the rear seats, and be doomed when the finals finally come while I learned nothing during the entire semester”, in the hopes that she now think that Laxius is not an expert in the History of Magic subject.

Sere seems now invested in the topics of activities and interests of Laxius in Hogwarts. Laxius thinks for a while before answering Sere “Well, not much actually. I am busy adapting to this new magical school. That is why I spend a lot of time going here and there, exploring every part of the school and its surroundings. I am still looking for some clubs that I may be interested in. I may consider joining Duelling sometime in the future” Laxius is also curious about her and asks “ How about you? Have you adjusted well here? Any interest in joining any clubs or activities?”

If the bedtime story is as worst as History of Magic lesson, then I'd rather not sleep until I become a zombie. Sere cleared her throat to drive away her suddenly random thoughts, "You have a unique perspective and some very interesting points. I appreciate that you're willing to share that with me." The Gryffindor girl then raised her eyebrows to tease her seatmate, "Yes, yes. Of course I won't misunderstand that, Mr. History Lover."

Sere folded her arms, "About adaptation... we've talked about it briefly several weeks ago, haven't we? I'm also striving to adapt, so I'm not sure either on what I am interested in right now. But..." The British-Korean girl looked at Laxius, "Have you ever had, or do you currently have, a very strong abstract desire? Because I have one," She raised her index finger, "protecting another lives."

"I feel like I'm not that strong physically, but magic..." Sere took out her wand from behind her robe and stared at it closely, "magic is such a powerful entity. Maybe by learning magic I can protect another lives." She placed her wand on the table, "That way I may consider joining duel too." The girl continued with a controlled excitement voice, "Then we are possibly going against each other in the future. I am absolutely waiting for that moment."

Sere pointed at the wand with her chin, "You know, our wands are possibly made of different materials. What's yours? May I see it? Actually, I've never seen any other student's wand in detail before."

Laxius quickly frowns when the gryffindor girl in front of him makes fun of him for enjoying history. He was worried that 'Mr. History Lover' might become the nickname she uses for him. “It seems that I really left you with the wrong impression”, Laxius replied with a regretful expression on his face. He thinks to himself "I should have restrained myself more when talking about myself with others. Now I may have a nickname that does not even reflect who I am." He further disapproved of the word, saying, "Please Don't call me that; I am not obsessed with history; I just found a way to make history more bearable and enjoyable. Since it works for me, I think it will also work for you, at least I hope so." Laxius added with a face full of doubt.

Laxius listens and learns that they were both in a similar stage about adapting to their new page of life. Sere suddenly poses some serious questions to Laxius, which makes him think "As expected, the topic of interaction quickly became serious." Unprepared for the question, little Laxius responds with what popped up on his mind "I am not sure what you mean by abstract desire. What I'm sure of is that I have a strong inclination to protect my own life; not sure about others though.” He thinks for a while then continues “I want to excel in magic to achieve everything I want. Even though I still don't know what my dream is right now, I am sure magic will be very useful for my future.” He listens to Sere’s opinion about magic and responds “I think so too, Sere. Magic can protect myself from the monsters and villains we see in history books, if you've read it.” Laxius tries to hold back his smile when teasing the Gryffindor girl. The little ravenclaw boy considered this as a form of payback for the nickname she gave him. Laxius suddenly remembers something about himself and says, "Regarding desire, I think I enjoy exploring and discovering new things. If you consider it as a desire."

Laxius didn't expect that the girl in front of him would consider joining dueling, right after having a little about saving other lives. It is pretty subtle, but he can sense some excitement when she mentions about dueling with him, and it gives some chills to Little Laxius’ spine. “Probably she is just thinking of this as an opportunity for lashing out her anger legally. Whatever it is, I am just praying that I won't be the victim.”

Sere pointed to her wand and appeared to be intrigued by Laxius' wand. "Oh, you want to see my wand?" Laxius grabs his wand from the side pocket of his bag and shows it to the girl sitting besides him, "Here you go! I was told that this wand is 31.5 cm long and made of cherry wood and unicorn hair.” The Ravenclaw boy is inspecting his own wand on his hand thoroughly. "They said that this wand is inflexible, and it works well with very perceptive wizards who have a connection to nature. But I still find it difficult to understand what it truly means." Laxius is a little bit perplexed with his thought, before adding “But it is okay, because this wand works well on me anyway”.

Laxius is directing his attention to Sere's wand and says, "Well... Just like you, I have never examined another student's wand in detail. Now that you've mentioned it, I'm kinda curious about yours.” Laxius puts his wand near Sere’s wand on the table with a smirk on his face. “Would you mind introducing yours to me? Do you like it? Do you think it is the perfect one for you?" Laxius bombards her with questions, begging for answers to quench his thirst for knowledge, and of course, get to know her better.

Uh, oh. This boy doesn't seem to be able to take my jokes very well. Sere cleared her throat, "I was just kidding. Sorry."

Sere shook her head with a horrified expression, "Owh Gosh. No more talk about history and its books." The Gryffindor girl continued, "Ah, so you look from the defensive point. I see."

Sere, who saw Laxius took out his wand and mentioned that it had a unicorn hair core and made from cherry wood, rounded her eyes instantly, "No... way..." She brought her wand closer to the Scottish boy's, "We have almost the exact same wands!"

Realizing that she was starting to act too excited, Sere lowered her tension and said a little bit more calmly, "Mine is also cherry wood and unicorn hair, exactly the same as yours. The only difference between our wands is the length." Hers is shorter than Laxius'. Sere nodded in agreement, "I don't really understand about wands and the materials they are made from, but this wand seems to work well for me too, I think. I don't know for sure because I actually haven't really used this thing."

Sere got an idea, "Ah, how about going on some some adventures together? You said you like it, right? We can start by walking around our school, Hogwarts. You can count it as an adventure and who knows there might be a time when I can use my wand, while also getting used to this thing." The British-Korean girl looked at Laxius, full of expectation. "We can match our schedule. Would you like to do it, my cherry-wood-unicorn-horn twins?"

Laxius notices Sere's reaction and thinks, "Maybe I was too defensive and serious, whereas she was just joking, probably. But, it's better safe than sorry." As she wishes, Laxius simply forgets about it and moves on to the next topic.

"Wow! I can't believe this!" Laxius, along with the Gryffindor girl, has a startlingly enthusiastic grin on his face. "Now that I look at it, our wands do resemble each other. I'm not sure about the length difference, but…” The little boy tries to connect the dots in his head “if we're both chosen by the same type of wand, This should tell something about ourselves, right?”. Laxius is pointing his deduction to Sere with a puzzled expression. "Perhaps, we have the same magic….." The words just come out with some uncertainty in his voice "magic affinity? magic type? Or something like that, right?"

What she said immediately made Laxius says to himself “cherry-wood-unicorn-horn twins. Well, now I now get another nickname. I guess it is inevitable, But at least this one is not bad and technically, not wrong.” He continues “Sure, But I don't think we are the only two students here that have the identical wand material, so I am not sure if the term ’twin’ is accurate. Anyway, if you like it, let's just use it for the time being.”

Laxius listened to the girl's enthusiasm and responded, "Oh wow! You are very enthusiastic, I see." With a puzzled smile on his face, he thinks, "I thought her schedule was crammed with studying. I can’t imagine she wants to make time for a little adventure with me. I guess I should stop judging too quickly" Laxius instantly clarifies his comment with a smile, "I mean, It would be an honor to have you accompany me on my adventure to explore Hogwarts. I had no idea you had some spirit for adventure.” With a melancholic voice, he says “To be honest, exploring alone can be quite lonely sometimes." He tries to lighten the mood and says to the gryffindor girl “But this time, I am sure it will be fun”.

He realizes that he has some important thing to ask his new buddy "Anyway, What portion of Hogwarts have you not yet explored? Which part would you like us to explore? If you don't know where to start, I recommend we visit the trophy room”. Laxius is curious about Sere’s reaction to his suggestion "How's that sound?".
