3:09 P.M. - After Classes
Partly Cloudy

The Small Hall seemed to be the perfect connection to walk to and from the Great Hall and the rest of Hogwarts. It was normally filled with students, walking from classes and such. That being said, on this particular Thursday, it was indeed, quite empty. However it was nowhere near dinnertime, and Lunch had already been finished. This left Millie with the thought that the Small Hall was indeed, quite useless.

After figuring out that she was a Parseltongue, and had been able to enter the Chamber of Secrets, she had learned that it was best to keep to herself. During her event with Marla, Millie realized she still had a lot to learn about herself. She didn't fit in with all these pure-blooded, British wizards. Her only home was across the sea, sitting itself in utter glory, as America had plenty of patriotism. England was nice, but she just felt more at home in America. Her parents had really only moved to England to keep the young girl safe. It was hard for her to fit in.

But the Small Hall seemed to be just useful enough for Millie to stand (or sit) in. She was able to pour over her notes, and even do some research, with the few people stepping in to say hello, or good afternoon. She got a perfect amount of social interaction, and was able to work diligently.

Yet it all changed when someone stepped by and noticed her sitting quietly. Seeing the shadow, Millie looked up, and saw a boy who was sporting the same colored robes as she was. Gryffindor. The boy was short, but still about the same height as Millie, who was considerably tall for her age, and he had dark blonde hair, the color of which reminded her of her mother. The boy had blue-ish grey eyes, which reminded Millie of Isaac.

"Sorry, am I in your way? I don't mind moving-" Her voice had come out as a nervous hinge. The boy must've noticed the book that lay open on her lap. The page shined in the light 'Parseltongues: Scary or Extraordinary?'

The halls were quiet. The only sounds to disturb this the distant chattering of small groups of friends as they passed on their way someplace more fitting, or the soft click of a professors boots against the floors, or the chirping of birds as they flew past outside. Many of them owls, dusted in whites and greys and tawny browns. First, Michael wondered why the wizards had chosen owls as their messengers. Then, he wondered if he'd ever be able to get one of his own. He had always thought of himself as a cat person, but he'd never considered an owl as a potential pet.

A soft huff passed his lips as he recognised his train of thought as tipsy- if not already derailed. And quickly moved onwards. Pulling the red-ringed sleeves of his jumper over his hands, he watched a portrait with fascination as he passed. The old man within smiled and tipped his hat to the boy.

Weird.

Michael had taken to wandering the halls in his time off classes. His dorms were often noisy, crowded with magic and mischief. Gryffindors seemed to have a reputation for their audacity- From what he'd seen, he was surprised they weren't simply labelled as 'loud'. Perhaps he should be trying harder to fit in... No, that wasn't his style.

He reached the small hall, and upon spotting the lone girl studying, he approached. "No, no," He said quickly, gaze flicking from her face to the book open on her lap. Any attempts he might have made at introductions died on his tongue as he read the title. "Parseltongue." He mused quietly, not familiar with the term. But, if it was magic, he did wonder, "why can't it be both? Scary and extraordinary?" He questioned, moving to sit beside her and attempt to look more closely at the book. "Sorry," He said upon the realisation she may think his actions rude. "Jus'... Magic, y'know? It's both."

Perhaps this boy was a muggle-born, because any witch or wizard with a sense of mind would have scampered the minute they read the word 'Parseltongue.' However, the boy only seemed to question it. If only he knew what kind of discrimination Millie would get if everyone in the school would find out.

Catching the wandering eyes of the portraits about, Millie covered the book casually with her robe sleeve. In a few seconds, she'd put the book back in her bag, hidden from view. Hopefully, the portraits hadn't seen very much. After all, it wasn't like they could keep their mouths shut for more than four minutes.

She was still quite resistant to the portraits after they ratted her and a friend out, forever ago. Though, technically speaking, they weren't supposed to be out after curfew, but it didn't matter.

Millie let her amethyst eyes glance at the boy, and then back to her robes. He had sat down to get a closer look at her book, so she moved her hand. Honestly, she didn't have an answer to his question. 'Why couldn't they be scary and extraordinary?' Perhaps the thought was too much for people to withstand.

"I think people are always so scared of it because Parseltongue is associated with the Dark Arts," She dropped her voice. "I think I am one, a Parseltongue."
