Match 3 - River vs. Hengist
Welcome everyone to the third match of our Duelling Beta Test!
A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great enthusiasm.
We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a First Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 30 or 35 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.
Your duellists today are @River Dewlight from Ravenclaw House and @Hengist Warbeck , also of House Ravenclaw. Please give a hearty round of applause to them as well as the moderator of this match, our Professor for History of Magic @Zahid al-Benghazi ibn Masoud !

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.
Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.
Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.
Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.
Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.
Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.
Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.

The round
Stepping up next to the duelling platform in the appropriated former classroom, Zahid took out the little piece of paper he'd been handed that listed the names of the two students whose duel he was to watch over.
He had been quite surprised by the amount of students interested in this whole duelling event and while he doubted the wisdom of letting students duel each other, he couldn't help his curiosity in how it would play out. At least, there was staff around in case something happened – after all, this was to be a duel.
Unfolding the paper he stepped onto the platform to call the students. “Miss Dewlight. Mister Warbeck. Please step onto the platform and take your places.” As they approached he stepped back down from the platform to stand next to it.
“Good. Now, this is to be a proper, nice, clean duel, so please bow toward each other and remember to keep to the Duelling Rules.” He waited a moment until they had done so before he continued. “And now... BEGIN!”Hengist posts first.

Match 3 - River vs. Hengist
This was something Hengist was extremely excited for. While he loves learning theory and history, practical application is what he lived for. So when it was announced that he would be taking part in a test of dueling, he couldn't be more eager for it to begin. When he found out who his first dueling opponent would be, he was even more excited. Not because he didn't like River; quite the opposite, in fact. He knows her as an absolutely stellar student who could really test him.
After much thought behind a specific strategy, Hengist decided to start simple, but strong. As Prof. Masond called their names, Hengist gave River a big, slighly goofy smile, which was quite out of character for him. He really cold not contain his glee at this chance to learn. After the professor had them both bow, he explained the rules. All pretty standard stuff that Hengist did not plan on defying.
Then, there was a pause. This pause seemed to last a lifetime to Hengist. Finally, the Professor yelled "BEGIN!" and he cast his spell, as if automatically. All the practicing had payed off as he didn't freeze, which he was slightly worried about. "Rictusempra!" he exclaimed, while motioning his wand in the correct manner. 'Let's see how you handle this, River,' he thought as he cast it.

Match 3 - River vs. Hengist
Was River interested in trying some duelling? Sure! Was she going to be good at it? That was an entirely different question. Really, she didn’t know why she signed up for it in the first place. Not because it didn’t sound interesting, but simply because River never saw herself as a dueller, at all.
Perhaps the simple wish of learning something new and practical was her main reason for joining in. After all, you never know when some experience in this stuff might come in handy.
She listened closely as the Professor called her and her opponents names. Warbeck...? Hengist, that was his first name. River knew about him from around. I’m going against a SECOND year?! River thought, as she felt her nerves get worse by the second.
River carefully stepped up as she looked over at Hengist, and could see a large smile smeared across his face. He seems excited, she tought, and wondered why she couldn’t be excited too. Or, she was, but she was more nervous at this point.
As they stood there, face to face, River gave a polite bow, and waited patiently for the duel to commence. It felt like she was waiting for hours, until she heard the Professor say, «BEGIN!». It caught River slightly off guard. She could hear Hengist already saying his incantation. «Rictusempra!». But I’m not ticklish, River thought suprised, knowing it probably wouldn’t make a single difference.
She reacted quickly with a spell she knew quite well, «Incendio!», she exclaimed, and aimed her best at the upper part of his clothes.
River did the correct movement and hoped with all might that the spell would work in her favour. Come on now River, you know you can do this!Action: Cast Incendio

The round
Zahid watched as both duelling contestants made their first move. The boy, Hengist, cast almost immediately and hit his opponent with a Rictusempra. Such quick reflexes were quite a boon as a dueller and would potentially get him far. If he kept it up, Zahid would make note to point whoever was to head the reopened duelling club toward him – if they decided to reopen it, of course.
River, maybe because she was nervous or maybe because she tried to evade his spell, was slightly slower trying to cast and her Incendio failed. Not the most auspicious start but he supposed it happened; in his experience, it was quite common for beginning duellers to fail at some spells due to nerves and taking a hit first thing certainly did not help.
Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, Zahid watched in anticipation to see what they would try next.
Hengist casts Rictusempra. Spell succeeds.

Match 3 - River vs. Hengist
Just as River had managed to finish her incantation, she felt a rush of this very strange sensation. It was something she was not familiar with. Her mouth opened into an unwilling smile, and this sound... It was the most peculiar thing. Laughter? She could feel her legs buckling slightly under the weight of her relatively small body. She dropped down to one knee, but kept her head up. Wheezing very unnaturaly and almost painfully, she looked up to her opponent. Is he on fire yet? To her dissapointment, he was not. I failed! I mean, it’s all part of the learning proccess... right? her mind spun quickly now. What move would be next, and how was she supposed to do it right, when she couldn’t stop this very annoying and horrid feeling? Her mind jumped to one of the first spells she could remember. She did have a plan, but Hengist hitting her with rictusempra was not part of it. Now, her brain was improvising, simply doing it’s own little things.
River took a deep breath, stood up for a breaf moment, only to have time to cast her next spell, let’s try knocking him off his feet «Flipendo!», she called out as controlled as she possibly could and aimed right for the boy. All of it happening in between the uncontrolled laughs and wheezes coming out of her mouth.Action: River casts Flipendo

'That couldn't have gone better!' Hengist thought. Not only was his spell a solid hit, it seemed to distract her enough to cause her to make a mistake in casting her own. Now that the edge is firmly in hand, he decided to go a bit harder.
He felt a bit bad, it seemed like he was being mean to River. However, he could tell she was rounding up for quite the counter attack. It was then it was steeled in him that as long as they were both playing by the rules, there was no 'being mean.' She was trying to do the same to him as he was to her. 'In that case,' he thought, 'let's turn up the heat a bit more...' "Incendio!" he cast. Right as he spell left his wand, he saw River cast her spell and braced for the possible impact.

The roundPaying little to no attention to the spectating students, Zahid kept his attention on the match. It seemed Hengist’s choice of first spell was a good one – it may have kept River from casting successfully twice now. Laughing certainly made proper pronunciation more difficult. “That’s some though luck right at the beginning.”, he mumbled to himself. Hopefully she would not let it discourage her.
Hengist, unimpeded by adverse effects of his opponents spellcasting, cast Incendio successfully though luckily he did not manage to set her aflame – Zahid was glad no student of his was on fire. Then again, such was duelling and he was well aware that the duel was far from over. On the other hand, there were so many other duelling spells they could choose from…
