It was one of those days she had no choice but to talk to people she barely knew and were either better or worse in what she was doing...yey. Ara didn't always dread duelling practice. She only dreaded one part: talking. The girl wasn't that big of a fan of anything people but somehow duelling passed her radar. Mainly because it was something she quite enjoyed.

It was only the first year on the team so she barely knew anyone. The black and white haired girl only got to know them if they were teammates or practicing together.

She walked into the dueling club room rather early, only having her wand and a small satchel bag with a book, a few candies, and a hair tie in it. This time, she didn't bring. a book since she came for one thing only, to practice. Though before that she needed to warm up as instructed. Afterwards, she's going to be practicing with a random member of the team.

Ara's partner was a third year that she didn't know well. She warmed up by stretching her arms as the younger girl cracked her knuckles and spun her right wrist as she fiddled with her wand with her left while she looked blankly at the floor. The older girl suddenly asked her a question. Not looking up from the floor, she replied, "Yeah... It's my first year on the team."

The girl she was talking to responded to Guinevere's somewhat unnecessary inquiries, albeit staring at the piste's floor while doing so. Inwardly, the third year quietly judged why the younger girl was avoiding eye contact, but didn't think too much about it. "Ah," she said while nodding and drawing her wand. "Shall we start with some easy spells?" Guin realized she didn't know the younger girl's name, only her face, which she'd seen around. "What's your name again?" she asked, now having to slightly shout because of the distance between the two.
The year's final duelling stage was fast approaching, and Guin wanted to really make sure she could do good. It wasn't like she had never won an official school duel during the actual season yet, yeah, obviously. It was already nearing the end of her second year on the team, but technically if you went in terms of full years, her first year had just passed. Still, it was difficult for the girl to wrap her head around the fact that though she was decent in class and in practice, she just couldn't win.
"Don't think about that," she chided herself. If she wanted to do better, she had to lock in in the moment and stop musing upon the past.

"Ok." the younger girl simply replied. The two girls created distance between each other. Ara haven't practiced or even just talked much with the older years since they were kind of intimidating to her because of their experience and other factors. The black and white haired girl hoped she would learn a lot from her upper class woman. The young Slytherin fiddled with her wand while she was going farther away from the older girl. She looked around the room as she did so, watching other people practice as well.

The final dueling stage was coming soon but it was only Ara's second duel on the team. She hoped that her teammates had the minimum amount of braincells and common sense when matches are announced since she found dense people irritable.

Ara's gaze switched to the older girl as she asked a question. Her name. "Villa, Ara. From Slytherin." She accidentally used the other format of stating one's name but oh well. The worst thing that can happen is that they'll think her first name was Villa. Right? The young Slytherin then remembered why her partner asked for her name, they didn't know eachother. So she asked similarly, "How about you?" she had to turn up her volume a bit because of the distance but she was sure the older girl could hear her just fine.

She usually didn't ask names much but it would be awkward to be practicing together without knowing what to call each other.

Ara responded with her name, and Guin nodded in return. She noticed Ara had used the version of stating one's name with the surname first. She herself debated whether to return that, or use the regular way. "I'm Guinevere Russetwood, Slytherin as well," she ended up saying simply. She was initialling going to tack on her generic follow up introduction sentence 'but Gwen or Guin works too,' but she guessed there wouldn't be a need, since enough people didn't bother to pronounce the whole thing anyways, and she assumed Ara would just do the same. Personally, she really didn't care.
Seeing that some other groups were already staring to exchange spells, Guin thought that they had spent enough time on pleasantries, and they should probably starts casting as well. "Okay, let't start. Three, two one.." she said while counting down with three fingers with her non dominant hand. On one, she decided to start off easy with a Expelliarmus aimed at the younger Slytherin's wand, while maintaining a light stance to be able to dodge. One thing she learned from duelling was that although a stable base position was important, she also had to stay light on her feet, and not as grounded like she had assumed at the start of her duel season.

'Guinevere... quite a lovely name' the girl thought before her upperclass woman started counting. Ara went to her improved stance, she's always adjusting the littlest of details based on other, more experienced duelists. Her feet weren't planted to the ground so she was able to dodge. She's very perceptive and she uses it to her advantage.

The young Villa wasn't sure what spell to aim at Guinevere. Although incendio was her usual, she didn't really want to burn someone in their first meeting (if their first meeting wasn't an official duel). So, she opted for flipendo, the knockback jinx. Though being forcefully knocked back is quite painful occasionally, it isn't as long-lasting as a burn. Or at least until it's treated.

"Flipendo." she said firmly.

2 spells were exchanged between the two of them. Ara's spell barely hit Guinevere. 'Impaired h-' her thoughts were cut off by her wand going out of her hand. "Sorry" she apologised for her spell not being better executed. But the apology wasn't just for Guinevere, it was also directed at her.

Ara was usually hard on herself. This was one of those times. She was almost always blinded by her own disappointment to see that there were other reasons why she didn't succeed. The reason she wouldn't try new things was because of this. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of anyone for not being as good as something as they are. The girl had a bit of an inferiority complex. The girl searched for her wand on the floor for a bit then found it after about 20 seconds.

Now let's not focus on that anymore shall we? We have a practice duel going on. Anyways, she looked at the floor before closing her eyes and breathed in and out. Opening them, she prepared her next spell. The Blindfolding Spell.

Guin thought quick about what spell to use. She could go full offense right now, but didn't see what fun there would be in that. Also, it was too generic and her potential opponents in a game would most likely expect that and see it coming. So instead, she wanted to go for an expelliarmus that would push Ara's wand out of her hand. The two cast their spells at around the same time, their shouts joining the rest of the members in the duelling club. Ara had chosen to go for flipendo, and Guin bent her knees a little bit to try to slide out of the way. Her shoulder caught a portion of the spell's energy, swinging the rest of her body sideways, but the third year caught herself from falling. Despite that, it seemed her disarming charm worked, and the younger girl ended up searching over the floor to pick it up again. "Pretty good," she said, even though encouragement wasn't really her thing. But she was trying to be nicer, you know? "Keep it up." She thought about what to do next. Maybe just go for an offensive spell? Or a debuff? Ventus could work, she thought, but again it was one of the more or less generic spells. Whatever it was, she had to think quick.

A sense of achievement went over the girl as she was complimented by her upper class woman. It felt nice to be acknowledged, though instead of saying "thank you" she merely nodded her head and hummed. Although at the back of her head, she was in doubt if it was an actual compliment or just encouragement in order to look nice. Ara was guilty of it herself but that means she'd usually know if it was a fake sense of security.

She already planned her next spell. The Blindfolding Spell. The young Villa recalled the wand movement and incantation as she casted. "Obscuro." she stated as a blindfold appeared upon Guinevere's eyes, blocking them so she cannot see. Before the spell blinded the third year however, she'd cast a Ventus, the Wind jinx.

Ara tried to avoid the strong wind, she got out of most of its way but some of the effects were still there. The black and white haired girl really wanted to learn that spell once she was a third year. Looking around the room, she saw her fellow duelists cast spells, evade, block, etc. It was honestly amazing she could see so many battles at once even if it was just practice. She shifted a bit as she glanced around, wanting to admire the sight around her while also not making eye contact with any human being. Maybe the Blindfolding Spell really is handy.

What would be her next move? It might take a while (or 5 more seconds) for Guinevere to take off the blindfold. Ara had to think quick. The second youngest Villa hummed as she thought of a spell. 'Her ability to aim and dodge is nullified...Maybe an Incendio Duo? Risky but worth a shot.'
