To the ice cream place with @Emiline Hunter

Simon watched her as she seemed a little lost in thought for the moment but he always thought it good to just let someone explore those thoughts without interrupting. He too had many thoughts run through his never-resting mind and kept notebooks full of questions that he hoped to someday answer. He could have made a good Ravenclaw and he could tell some others shared such traits. He wondered what house Emiline would be sorted into. The only house that didn't come immediately to mind upon meeting her was the house of Slytherin but she had said her father was a Slytherin, so possibly. Many times it seemed that students got sorted into the same houses of their families, but also many times it wasn't so - like Simon being in Hufflepuff when his mother had been a Gryffindor.

Truly, he could see himself anywhere but Slytherin, but Hufflepuff was definitely the perfect fit for him.

Simon was just about to protest about the Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour because if her sister had said no, who was he to say yes, but then she asserted her authority. It was true, she was the boss and he just the assistant. He would have to assist. That is, after all, what assistants did.

"Yes, Miss Emiline. Whatever you say, Miss Emiline,"
he smiled widely at his direct obedience. Ice cream wasn't really one of those delicacies that this dhampir took in, as he wasn't fond of sweets, but he had learned to at least tolerate a flavor. He thought back to his unexpected visit of his father over the Summer and how they had gone to an ice cream shoppe only to witness his father's ice cream melt into soup throughout their conversation. Maybe it was the vampire part of him that didn't carry a fondness for sweets.

"Do you think you'll miss your family when you begin at Hogwarts? It can be an adjustment." He had missed his Aunt Maggie, his Church family, his friends. "Do know though that you'll always be able to seek me out if you ever need someone to talk to or go exploring with."

Once their journey from Flourish and Blotts ended a few storefronts away, he backed into the door until his weight pushed it open with ease and stepped back a few more steps so that she could go in first, despite the books in his hands. "After you, Miss Emiline."

Emiline grinned broadly when Simon continued the charade of being an assistant. She even stifled a giggle that was eager to come out of her lips. She noticed his smiling and the girls' smile widened even more. She skipped ahead with energy first years found from nowhere.

She started humming a song that her sister sang to her when her parents went away for business trips. And as if Simon could read minds, he asked about family and if she'd miss them. A pang of home sickness attacked her. "Mmh, yep." She muttered, hoping Simon wouldn't notice her sudden change in mood. "At least I'll make new friends and learn lots of cool stuff!" Emiline plastered a smile on her face which soon became genuine when Simon offered his help.

Soon they got to their destination, or at least Emiline thought she had because Simon was opening a door to a colourful shop and was inviting her in with a formal 'Miss Emiline'. This time Emiline burst into giggles due to covering it up earlier. She smiled at Simon and tossed her hair and spoke again,"Why thank you assistant." And through the door she went, still upholding a prestigious manner about herself. She glanced back at Simon and she guffawed with laughter. "Okay, okay, I can't do that anymore." She wheezed through her laughter.

After regaining her breath, Emiline looked round to see what she should buy. "Woah....... So many flavours! Which one should I chose?!"She muttered to herself. Her eyes shone in amazement. "I've never tried Wizarding ice-cream before. Simon, which flavour would you suggest?" The excitable first year turned back to the helpful older year eagerly waiting for which flavour would be his favourite.

To the counter with @Emiline Hunter

"I heard they're working one inspired by Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans where each lick would yield a different flavour - how wicked is that?" Simon said with a laugh. The magical world was truly astounding in each and every way - from potions, to magical plants, and to something as simple as the ice cream.

"Well, I'm a simple guy, Miss Emiline. I get the lemon and only the lemon. Lemon ice cream, lemon candies, pretty much......the only sweet I ever partake in is that of a lemon variety," he said and flashed her a big smile because he knew how ridiculous it was. "I don't tend to like any other - don't have much of a sweet tooth." He didn't know if that was a dhampir thing or just a him thing.

"But I've heard many like the strawberry and peanut butter or the chocolate and raspberry with chopped nuts," and he looked over the other flavors they had in the case as they got to the counter. There was sticky toffee pudding, pink peppercorn, honey, butterbeer, toast, fish 'n chips, and luckily, lemon. Usually when he came there it was with AngelFyre, and they'd do an order of lemon and an order of chocolate.

"Anything you want, Miss Emiline, it's on me. I just hope you up my salary once we get to school,"
he smiled, not really wanting to get paid at all. He had the extra money to get her ice cream with no problem - while his aunt wasn't rolling in savings, they weren't hurting at all either. Simon had a comfortable lifestyle.

"You know, if you get into Hufflepuff - I can help you almost any time and I could continue being your assistant. If you needed me, you could just come and find me in my dormitory or leave a note under the door." He could be used in other capacities there beyond assistant too, like tour guide, advice giver, friend.

Being an easily distracted first year, Emiline forgot about her previous request for Simon to drop the act of being an assistant and she focused on the many, many flavours of ice cream. That one. No non no. That one. Wait what about that one? Ughhhh, I'm gonna be here forever. Which one should I chose? From any onlookers she looked frantic, pointing to several different flavours then shaking her head and then began pointing at several completely different ones. All of a sudden, she walked to the nearest table and plonked herself down on the chair. "There are so many flavours, how are you suppose to chose one!?" She complained in the direction of Simon. Emiline had a forlorn look upon her face. But it disappeared quickly as she clearly thought of an idea.

Within a blink of an eye, she was back at the counter, she briefly scanned the pray of flavours then settled on one. With a grin, she slipped back to Simon, grabbed his hand and dragged him towards the counter. "I've decided, Please may I have a chocolate and rasberry ice cream." Her grin spread wider now she had decided. She stood proudly as if she'd just won a medal. She glanced back at Simon to see what he'd say.

Finding a table with @Emiline Hunter

There were so many flavors but hardly any appealed to him so he didn't have the trouble that Emiline had in choosing. When she finally did, he smiled because he could tell she was proud of herself for making a decision and told the clerk, "we'll take one chocolate and raspberry and one lemon, please." The clerk got their order ready, asking if they wanted any toppings placed on - which Simon declined, and then Simon paid for the treat and handed hers over to his new Diagon Alley friend.

The two found a seat. While the parlour was busy, people were getting up to go finish their shopping all the time and one of the employees was casting magic for cleaning cloths to wipe down the tables by themselves until they literally sparkled clean and then they would vanish off to their cleaning caddy. Simon smiled at the sight of it because although he had joined into this wizarding world years ago, it still amazed him to see tasks - both big and small - be accomplished with magic.

You can take a muggle into the wizarding world but you can't take the muggle out of the man.

"I'm glad another year is coming up. Hogwarts is full of magic - and I don't just mean the classes. You'll find your place there and if you're ever feeling yourself a little lost, in any sort of way - the studies, the friendships, a rough patch with your sister, or missing home - come find me, alright? If we don't cross paths often I'm an owl away, send one." He didn't know which house she'd be placed into but he wanted to offer up his assistance, for the upcoming school year and any to follow.

Emiline eyes gleamed with satisfaction when Simon handed her ice-cream over. She immediately tasted it and she was surprised that it tasted that good. "Woah, its like someone has dipped raspberries into melted chocolate." She exclaimed while walking towards the table Simon was nearing.

While eating, Emiline took in the wonders of the small but busy shop. The murmurs or talking, the clinking of cutlery ,the swishing of robes and the ding of the bell as people walked in and out. She curiously watched the kind of people who were coming in and out of the shop. Old, young, different species, it seemed a pretty popular place to be. Her eyes got attracted to the shop owners tidying up. She had seen her father do this many times before the argument, but it still fascinated her. Its so cool how you can wave about a wooden stick in a certain way with such a deliberate pronunciation and you can clear up a mess that would have taken a good half hour! She thought excitedly.

She listened to Simon talk about Hogwarts and he offered his help if she ever needed to talk to someone. She was just pondering on how to respond when the bell to the shop went again, but this time she noted it was bit louder than the previous times. As she turned to face the door, she heard the voice she would have been glad to hear previously but now with an ice-cream in her hand, not so much. "Emiline Hunter!" A girl stood in the doorway with her manicured hands on her hips. The volume of the shop quietened for a beat then rose again. The girl stalked towards them, her hair in a neat ponytail which swung side to side. As she approached, her face lost the anger and took on an embarrassed composure. "You didn't tell me about your hot friend Em, What's your name cutie?" She directed towards Simon. She tucked a loose stand of hair behind her ear which had fallen out her ponytail. Then grabbed a spare chair and sat down quiet close to Simon. She smoothed down her skirt while batting her eyelashes at Simon. Emiline covered her eyes, blushing furiously. "Not now Skye!" She mumbled clearly embarrassed by her sister's actions.

Having raspberries dipped in melted chocolate didn't sound like a good combination to Simon. Raspberries were too sweet of a fruit and chocolate was too sweet and silky of a taste - but then again he didn't like really anything sweet tasting. He liked lemon drops but probably because the sourness perfectly balanced any sweetness that came. The sugar dusted ones were the best, as they were the least of the sweetest.

He tasted a bite of his. It was lemon perfection. He was glad he could have a flavour of ice cream that he did enjoy because he didn't want this to be a replica of the time he had ice cream with his father just to have his turn into a sort of ice cream melted soup because he hadn't taken a single taste.

Simon went for another bite as he heard her name being called and he instantly came to the correct conclusion that this must be the sister that she was with while doing her shopping in Diagon Alley. Good that she found her, but he wasn't sure she was exceptionally happy about finding her there. Maybe Simon could offer to purchase an ice cream for her sister as well to help mend her mood a little.

By the time the girl got to the table, she no longer seemed very agitated and her voice seemed quite friendly. She asked about her sister's - at least if that's who this was - hot friend and Simon took a moment to glance over his shoulder, thinking someone else must have approached the table as well before realizing it was just the three of them there.

Oh. She meant him.

"Uh - " he paused, unsure how to answer that. I mean, of course he knew how to respond; he knew his name. It was just that he wasn't sure how to respond to the flirting. Once upon a time ago he had been a pro at flirting. Hell, better than a pro. This boy, born on Valentine's Day, was a natural and could probably have once been the expert in flirting and all things flirtatious when it came to girls but now it had become like a foreign language to him. So much that he didn't even initially realize it had been intended for him.

By now enough time had passed that she had sat down close and Emiline sparked in embarrassment and pleaded for her sister to speak, stating her name. So he knew her name, now he just had to say his own. Again, it wasn't stating his name that was the issue here - but rather how he stated it. He knew girls like this came on strong and usually remained strong.

He rested his spoon down along the side of his bowl and looked to the girl. "Simon. Simon Kincaid. Your sister will be starting at my school in September, and hopefully we'll be sorted into the same house. We just sat to enjoy our ice cream. You're welcome to get some if you'd like. Apparently the chocolate and raspberry is quite tasty. I've heard good reviews."

Emiline was so embarrassed. She sister had to come at this moment and start flirting with the boy opposite her. She uncovered her eyes to watch ,in horror, how Simon would react. When her sister had initially started, Simon had glanced over his shoulder. Why did he do that? She thought puzzled. Then she heard Simon make a thinking sound. Oh my god, He is completely offended that she is flirting with him. Oh no, no, no,no. What should I do? What should I do!?
Emiline's demeanour changed slightly, from embarrassed and trying to shy away to ready to grab something if needed.

Evidently, some time had pasted and Emiline hadn't been paying attention to her ice-cream. There was a big drip heading straight towards her hand. Trying for escape. Emiline absently licked it up. Her whole mood had now changed. What if Simon thinks I was just befriending him so my sister could flirt with him? Her heart raced. Her thoughts getting the better of her.

She shook her head slightly to shake herself out of her thoughts. Now Simon had set down his spoon and cautiously stated his name and explained how he knew Emilline. He also offered to get her an ice-cream as well. The older sister was about to speak but unfortunately glanced towards her sister and was met with a look. The meaning was clear. ' Stop right now, or I will do something about it.' Emiline held the glare for a while. It was probably only 10 seconds but for a bystander it would clearly be uncomfortable.

The girl glared back. Then she looked back to poor Simon, suck between all of this. "Simon. That is such a nice name. You would buy me an ice-cream. Aw, that's so sweet. Thank you." When she said 'aw' she rested her hand on Simon's shoulder. Emiline's eyes clouded with anger. Her sister was doing this on purpose.

Something inside Emiline ticked. She stood up. Grabbed her sister's hand and pulled her back. "Skye. We are going!" An edge to her tone suggested she would be taken seriously. Her sister pouted but grabbed a note from her pocket and tossed it towards Simon. "My number. Call me!" Emiline was dragging her back towards the door. Skye's note floated slowly to the floor and landed right by Simon's left foot. Emiline had dragged her sister to the door and the talked to her in a hushed tone. The older sister went outside the shop.

Emiline's tight composure relaxed and she hurried back towards Simon. "I am super sorry about her. She isn't normally like that. Anyways, thank you so much for helping carry my book, getting me an ice-cream and spending some of your time with me. I should go now before Skye comes back." Emiline's face was flushed red then she pointed towards the note. "You do not need to call her, in fact if you do I will never hear the end of it"

She smiled and then walked away. When she was by the door, she looked back and waved back to Simon. And she walked out. To scold her sister most likely.
