I won't even ask for any pet I just wanna look!" Scout didn't need another pet, not when she had her beloved owl, Pebble! But she wanted to pet the puppies so bad... they looked so sweet and cute in the windows and they were practically begging for her to give them a little pat! Just one!
"Scout." Baishu gave her an incredulous look- one that had seen her beg and beg to just go in and look, only to cry and sob when the puppies looked too sad and they just needed one! "You know good and well that that is not how this endeavor is going to end. I'll make you a deal," he took out his wallet and handed her some money, "you can go into that toy store over there and get yourself a dog stuffed animal. How does that sound?" She still gets to pet a dog and Baishu doesn't have to listen to her cry over the sad dogs. Win-win.
"Hm... okay. I'll take it!"
The toy store was empty, save for a few younger kids walking around babbling about the cool new figures or dolls. It was nice and quiet, which was almost the exact opposite of the energy Scout brought in. She was here for one reason and one reason only- and her dad let her go in by herself like the big girl she is! Ha, she's practically an adult now!
Her eyes danced around the shelves that held hundreds of cute stuffed animals. Birds, cats, elephants, camels, whatever animal you fancied could definitely be found here. Scout knew what she wanted, though, and that was a cute puppy plush. There were lots of them, and Scout was unable to decipher which one she wanted. Should she go for the tiny Chihuahua, or the big and strong German Shepard?
There was one plush left on the shelf of the golden lab dogs. Pretty and yellow... such soft fur- she needed this specific one! Scout wouldn't be able to forgive herself if she passed up the last one, what if he needed her to be his friend? She needed to name him, and she hadn't even gotten her hand on him yet!
"Oh, excuse me." A voice echoed next to her, and her hand brushed against someone else's. "Huh?" She asked, looking over at where the voice had exactly come from. She hadn't even heard someone creep up behind her- don't dhampirs have super-hearing, or is that just something in movies? They should, that'd be so awesome.
"Ah, sorry. Did you want that one?" The voice came from a young boy, who looked to be the same age as her. Maybe twelve or thirteen? He had dark skin and a really soft face, and something about him seemed so familiar. Had she seen him before? Maybe around school but... no, she'd definitely recognize him if she had seen him in the corridors at Hogwarts, it wasn't that big of a school- and he looked like he was a first or second year, too.
"Oh! Right, yeah, sorry." Instinctively, her hand retracted back from the stuffed animal. Ugh... but she really wanted the yellow dog. Why did she have to follow societal norms and be polite? "No, please, take it. I can get another one, it's for my little sister, she won't even know the difference."
YES! SCORE!
"Oh, thank you! Um, sorry if this seems weird, do I know you?" Scout asked, almost regretting the words as soon as they left her mouth. Why did she ask that? He definitely does not recognize her, and why in the world would he? He was probably just some other muggle kid that didn't even know magic was real and she was a freaking vampire!
The boy doesn't respond immediately, taking a second to look over her face and see if he does, in fact, recognize her. It seems to click in his head where she gets the familiarity from, and he leans in. "You go to Hogwarts, right?"
What?! How did he know?!
Her face gives away her response, Scout's always been expressive. "I thought so, it's written all over your face. I go to Uagadou." His voice is so quiet, right... because they're in a muggle store. Muggles don't know magic exists- okay, right, shut up Scout. But did he seriously recognize her face from the few times the international schools went to Hogwarts? That's insane! And so cool! Oh, if only Scout could recall people's faces... or names.
But to meet another wizard, from a school in a different continent... what a lucky surprise!

july 4th, 2024 sunday, morningtotal wc: 1200~ interacting with: scout fu-hai mentioning:The girl next to him is incredibly expressive. Zyair mentioned the word 'Hogwarts', and her eyes widened like balloons. In a way, it reminded him of a cartoon character. The exaggerated proportions, the easily readable facial expressions and body language, she could definitely be a character in something like Spongebob or other cartoons his little sisters watched.
"Uagadou..." the face of the girl contorted to look deep in thought. Were all of her expressions so vivid? "Oh, that's in Africa, right?"
"Yes."
"Why are you here, then?"
Zyair didn't even know her name, and she was asking questions like that? Maybe in London people were more open with their thoughts...? He was unsure, but that was fine. They had something in common, and it wasn't like she was a total and complete stranger. They were both magical and could use magic, something similar.
"I'm staying with my sister until the Summer Camp your school is holding begins." That was a general enough answer. His mother always told him it was a good idea to never be completely open with people you didn't trust. Er, but that probably didn't apply here, given that the girl had nothing to gain by... knowing why he was in London.
She nods. The stuffed dog in her hand is a nice shade of golden. You'd have to really groom and take care of your dog to achieve a similar shade, even with dogs like the golden lab or corgi. He thought Chichi would like the color, and it was within his price range. His sister told him he didn't need to pay for things with his own money but he liked the feeling of independence.
"My name is Scout, by the way. If you're going to be at summer camp then I'll probably see you." Scout was a nice name. And she was also going to summer camp, which upped the number of people Zyair knew to two. Ariam Vargas was the other one, a Castelobruxo student that Zyair sent letters to. Two was better than one, and one was better than zero. So maybe if Ariam got busy doing things with his own friends, he could find this girl.
But she seemed like the kind of person to have lots of friends. Unlike Zyair.
"Zyair. It's nice to meet you properly, Scout. I do hope we meet again when camp comes around." There were a lot of events, maybe they can team up or something. That would be nice.
Right, he still had to get a souvenir for Chichi, and his sister would be ready to pick him up soon. He's about to say his goodbyes to Scout when he realizes her attention has been drawn back to the stuffed animal. She's babbling to the dog about what his name would be, and Zyair decides to slowly back away. He almost gets away unnoticed, but Scout spots him just before the aisle ends, and she waves.
Zyair waves back.
That could've gone worse.
