Alex smiled sadly at the camera before placing it back in his bag. So many memories. Some better than others, but all of them made up who Alex was today. He smiled slightly. ”Thanks. I’m not amazing though. I’m just average. That was a good picture opportunity so I took it,” he said. He would say that people were way better than him at taking photos. He nodded. ”Yeah, until I was seven. Then my dad sent me to live here with my uncle along with my brother. He taught me how to speak English. It took some adjusting because the culture and the traditions are so different, but over the years I’ve learned a lot,” he said. He grabbed another flower and twirled it in his fingers, smiling. He missed his uncle. The last time he saw him was winter break, but he still wanted to see him again. He had been sending him letters though, so he didn’t miss him too much. Alex laughed a bit. ”Yes, that would be fun, wouldn’t it? We have to do that one day. Maybe,” he said hopefully, ”If you want, I could meet you during the summer and have a summer picnic, or not that would be fine,” he said quietly.

Ruka listened intently as Alex talked about his father and uncle, and there was this slightly sad undertone that made him decide not to press the topic any further.
Parents were a sensible topic; he knew he always got a bit weird when people talked about his mother, and he sure wasn't exactly begging for people to ask about his dad's health either, so instead Ruka decided to focus on a new detail about Alex that he had not known about before. "You have a brother?" he asked with a curious smile, shuffling a little bit closer until their arms were aligned and touching just slightly. "How old is he? Does he go to Hogwarts too?"
Being an only child himself had always made Ruka curious about the relationship between siblings. Being with his dad had always been enough for him, but he could imagine that it was nice to have a sibling by your side to spend your time with when things got boring or stressful.
Ruka's face lit up suddenly when Alex suggested that he could come by in the summer to have a picnic, and he nodded eagerly, making sure the other boy could tell that he was excited about even just the thought. "I would love to!" he said brightly, turning on his side to look at Alex better. He smiled, blushing a bit as he continues talking. "I've never been out of Ireland," he admitted with a little chuckle. "I've barely ever been out of Mullingar. Only in the close surroundings. Where do you live? What's it like there?" He grinned, already feeling like summer couldn't come soon enough. "Do you have pets? I always wanted a pet but my dad always said it wouldn't be fair on an animal to live like us!" He shrugged his left shoulder a bit and chuckled, reaching one hand out to adjust the daisy in Alex' hair a little bit. "But either way, I'd love to come visit! We can have a picnic and do some dancing, and all of that, right? It'll be fun!"

Alex smiled brightly. ”Yup! His name is Adrian. He’s a few years older than me. He’s fourteen so he’s in fourth year, and he’s a Gryffindor actually,” he said with a smile. He loved his brother a lot. He had taken care of him a lot over the years and they had gotten into a lot of trouble together. When Adrian would come home from school, he would hurry to the door and open it for him. He smiled a bit. He felt Ruka’s shoulder brush his own and went pink for a second. He wondered if Ruka had any siblings. He did just talk about being with his father, so he must be an only child. He smiled with a pink face as Ruka said he would love to come over during the Summer vacation. ”Really?” he said. He turned to his side to look at Ruka with a smile. ”Well, I live in London. It’s quite close to the train station which is nice. My uncle’s house is quite big. It’s really nice. My room is on the top floor near the roof so I can go out on top of it if I want to. The stars are actually really pretty. And I do have a pet. My uncle has an owl named Prince and I have a white cat named Mochi. I could’ve brought him, but my uncle told me not to bring him this year,” he said sadly. His face went pink again as Ruka adjusted the daisy in his hair. He nodded. ”Of course! We have to owl each other too! When do you think is the best time to come over?”
