Speaking of the past PV Finished

10 years…

10 years since Delilah Stewart lost her parents. She couldn't really remember much of that day outside of the fear that had spread through her body that day. 3 years old and she had become a parentless child, she lived alone with her granny from that day onwards, her granny was her best friend, her only friend for most of her life, she told her stories of the past, read books to her, went on walks with her and they just enjoyed life together, but it wasn't the same as if her parents were still there.

That day had started like any other, some random weekend, she headed to the library, but something was different, something was wrong. The usually chipper young girl was gloomy, completely silent on a walk she knew very well between her dorm and the library. It was a long walk, with all the stairs, but it was a familiar one, as she had made it most days over the past 2 years. As she arrived in the library she did her usual of looking around for a table, waving to the librarian and then taking a seat. Unlike other days, this time she didn't get a book, she just sat there.

She reached her hand into a pocket and pulled out a small picture, it had 4 people, there was 2 women, a man and a little girl. Delilah, her parents and her granny. Delilah was on her dad's shoulders, a huge grin on her face, everybody in the picture looked so happy. Her mum was standing on the right hand side of her dad, a small blanket that had belonged to Delilah in her hand. And finally her granny, standing on the other side of her dad, she still looked exactly the same as she did now but without her crutch that she now needed to be able to walk.

Delilah just stared at the picture, she wasn't so sad about her parents death specifically, she was more upset about the lack of memories she had of them, as she looked at the picture she realised, these people in this picture were strangers to her. But she wasn't crying, she wasn't doing anything but staring at this one image.

Marcus sighed running a hand through his hair as he made his way to one of the tables only to see Delilah sitting there holding something in her hands and just staring at it.

He pauses for a second thinking of what to do 'I barely know her at all but its always good to make new friends..' he thought then made his way over and gently tapped her on the shoulder "Is..everything alright?" he asked politely a curious yet worried look on his face.

Noticing what is on the picture, he puts two and two together "Seems we are in the same boat, I believe that is how muggles say it.." he said "No parents at all..how long ago?" he asked curious hoping that talking about it would help her in the process of grieving, and maybe help him in telling her what happened to his parents.

He took a seat close to her putting the books he took on the table, but ignoring them for now and focusing on her so he can try to help "I..uh..read it helps to talk about things that make you sad." He said sliding a hand through his black silky hair then sighs "I'm not good at this honestly" he admitted "But hopefully I can help."

Her focus had been so strongly placed on this picture that she didn't even notice anybody coming up to her. As she felt a gentle touch on her shoulder she flinched, her focus breaking to turn her head to the person next to her, it was Marcus, from the forest. The one who had completely disappeared right before it turned a bit sour. "I... Uhh... Yeah I'm fine." She said with uncertainty. She tried to force a small smile, in truth it failed and she just looked awkward. She's never been good at hiding her emotions.

She went silent again as he spoke, placing the picture down on the table,"It was a long time ago, it... Doesn't matter, its silly anyway." She shook her head gently and looked down at the table. She kind of asked for this, she could've sat and looked at the picture in her dorm room, but then she would've got the attention of her dorm mates, who would've dragged her out to do something fun or something like that. She would prefer to just sit in the quiet of the library.

As he explained how he wasn't very good at it she looked back up to his face, "Yeah... Me neither." She let out a quiet laugh as she scratched her neck.

Marcus watched her closely as she explained what happened "Like I said it helps to talk about things like this, for me my mother died during childbirth and my father recently died, so I'm an orphan myself as well." he explained then smiled slightly "It's okay to feel sad about these things." he added

"Though part of me, is..happy about his death, since it wasn't a good childhood for me but the other part is still saddened since because he was my father and I still loved him." He said after a few seconds "My training was far more brutal than other pureblood households." he said sliding a hand through his hair to relax himself.

He looks around for a few seconds then smiles over to her lightly "I have been told it is sometimes good to have a snack when you are feeling down, maybe later we could go to the kitchens and sneak some food from the house elves?" he asked with a soft chuckle trying to lighten the mood around them.

"Though I will need to ask the Librarian if I can take these books out of the Library...hopefully I can I like learning as much as a Ravenclaw sometimes" He says teasing seeing she was a Ravenclaw.

She just listened to his story for a minute before preparing herself for talking about her own. "It was... About 10 years ago, not long after this picture was taken actually. It was an accident." She looked back at the picture and drummed her fingers on the table gently.

"The weird thing is, I'm not actually sad about them dying, I'm sad about the fact I don't remember them. My granny would always tell me how close I was to them when I was little, but I don't remember them at all... I'm sorry about your dad by the way."

As he spoke about food she genuinely smiled. "I am a bit hungry now that I think about it, although I don't think the house elves would appreciate thieves. But you are a slytherin." her smile turned into a smirk as her gaze raised to his face once again. "Don't even think of roping me into your rule breaking, I was a prefect last year you know." She laughed softly, it was the truth, but she wouldn't mind bending a few rules for the sake of having fun.

When he mentioned her house she gasped, "There's nothing wrong with learning I'll have you know." She smiled again, what had went from a very bleak day had quite quickly changed.

Marcus listened to the story with a comforting smile, nodding politely when she finishes "Thank you for that." he says then adds "I understand, sadly we sometimes lose memories of when we were younger as we grow up." he added with a sigh and soft smile to her.

"The House Elves would understand." he said with a laugh "And yes I am a Slytherin and we are known to convince people of doing this." he teased then laughed once more "Let's go to the kitchen." he suggested with a grin then nodded "Learning is fun when it benefits you in the future." he said then stretched lightly in his seat

"What are you in the mood for in the kitchen?" he asked curiously making sure to pack his bag of the books he took for later reading "What classes do you like so far by the way?" he asked "I can't wait for Runes, but so far I like DADA, Charms, Flying and Transfiguration." he stated with a grin "The rumors of the Dueling Club opening up should be fun as well."

After packing his bag, he stood up then extended his hand to her "Let's get going so we can get some snacks." he said

"Would they understand though?" She tilted her head slightly. "This is why I'm not friends with any slytherins, trying to break rules and drag me into it." She teased, it was true that she wasn't friends with any slytherins so far, but Marcus made a good contender.

"I'm fine with anything really, I skipped breakfast so I could eat anything." She said skipped breakfast as if it was something that she never usually did, when in reality it was rarer for her to eat breakfast than to not. She didn't eat a lot, it explained her skinny body and possibly her extremely short height, but that could also just be genetics, she isn't 4'2 at 13 years old for no reason.

"So far I really like things like History of Magic and other theory related things, but I like to cast spells too, I'm just not very good at it. And flying... Ugh.. Don't even get me started on flying." She sighed loudly. Delilah hated flying, absolutely despised it, mainly because she was terrified of being in the air, she had never flown before even in a plane before hogwarts."I am looking forward to muggle studies though, I wonder what people in the magic world think of muggle, after all I was one a couple years ago."

When he stood up and stretched his hand out towards her, she quickly grabbed her family picture and shoved it in her pocket before taking his hand and pulling herself up. It was only now that she realised how tall he was, especially in comparison to her, she went up to his mid chest, not even shoulder height. She scrunched up her nose at that before saying, "You are way too tall."

"Hopefully." he replied softly chuckling then rubbed his chin as if in thought "Maybe you won't get into trouble if you had a Slytherin friend, hmm?" he suggested with a teasing grin.

"Well we can see what the House Elves can make us." he said then listened to her talk about her classes "Flying is fun you just need to trust in your magic and the broom, but otherwise I do like theory as well it helps with learning more rune patterns when I study." he added then looked around seeing if anyone was around then laughed hearing her comment on his height "Sorry for being tall." he teased then grinned "Follow me to glorious food!" he said a little to loudly as the Librarian shushed him and he blushed in embarrassment hurrying out of the library.

"Oops?" he mumbled with a chuckle once he exited then took her hand once more and continued toward the kitchen "Muggle Studies would probably have been updated since we have now had a Muggleborn as Minister of Magic." He replied then shrugged "But knowing how The Wizarding Society thinks of Muggles, it would probably be 1970s era technology we think Muggles still have or something crazy like that, since obviously they wouldn't believe anything about the internet or nuclear weapons.."
