Nat is a hard-working student, and the same goes for tasks/jobs, to the point of perfectionism (in the sense of, not just someone who displays perfectionistic tendencies a lot of times, but who is, a majority of the time, a slightly extreme perfectionist). This leads to, oftentimes, burning herself out. She gives greater than 100% for all she puts herself deeply into. She wants to be #1 in topics she cares about. She knows she's a smart student, and she is going to put in the work for it. Even outside of schoolwork, if she has a goal she wishes to achieve, she goes all-out for her to come out on top with it, to the point of even having her friendships lay on the back-burner. However, just under her strong desire to achieve her goals, she has room and a drive for her social circle. Nat also values her family.

Nat is usually on the quiet end, but she has an ego about her intelligence and, to some extent, her independence as well. She doesn't love emotions all that much, but isn't completely opposed to them. She prefers to cry in secret unless it is around people she is very close with, in which case either being alone or not will do. When others are upset, she isn't very good at knowing how to comfort, but she is there to listen and attempt to comfort regardless. She is rather ambiverted in that she doesn't lose much energy with friends, but doesn't like parties, and enjoys being in her own mind as well. She doesn't see the point in spontaneous casual conversations with friendly acquaintances. She is an overthinker (and like with the perfectionism thing, not in the typical sense, but to a slightly more extreme degree) and is constantly worried and stressed, so too much time trapped with her thoughts makes her feel like she's going a little crazy. She finds she feels generally better when she is around others.

With her closest friends, Nat is a lot louder and a goofball. She identifies with weird people and likes befriending people who are weird, even if they are deemed weird by broader society in just subtler ways. They make her feel saner, and, more-so, she likes being friends with people who mentally stimulate her. Her friendships with these people are usually the ones which last for years/for forever, because they make her feel comfortable to be herself, are such joys to be around, and, perhaps most importantly, since Nat loves mental stimulation, they are wildly entertaining companions.

Currently, Nat is expressing her less goofy and more straight-up just weird (without the goofy/bubbly charm) and "dark" side more openly. She has an interest in grunge, goth, and lightly emo cultures and wants to be more like them. Alt cultures feel more authentic to her, and she doesn't want to keep being bubbly 99% of the time, because although it is not against her personality to be bubbly, sometimes she becomes bubbly in part due to people-pleasing, or just doesn't hold herself back, and ends up exhausting herself with it on top of everyone else. She wishes to work on herself and stop doing this. She wishes to be more mature than that. Connectedly, Nat subtly wants to look tough, as well as put-together in life, not behind or lost in any way. However, despite the pressure to conform, she has some mildly non-conformist viewpoints.

Background Story

Nat was born just outside of Gloucestershire, a county in England, to two English parents. She's lived in Lydney, a town in Gloucestershire, for almost her entire life. As she was born to two magical parents, she was homeschooled. Being away from home for an extended period at Hogwarts was a drastic change for her at first.

Because of her father's muggleborn status, Nat knew a small amount about the muggle world prior to attending Hogwarts, but nowhere near as much as a half-blood or muggleborn witch would know. Besides, she was primarily close with her maternal grandmother.

Nat's parents met at Hogwarts and were sort of friends for many years. Her father, Jordan, was two years younger than her mother, Avery, and they were in different Houses, so they did not interact much their first couple of years at Hogwarts. One day, one of Jordan's close friends died. Feeling sorry for Jordan's grief, Avery sat down with him for a conversation. Through tragedy blossomed romance, as her comforting him led to the two becoming closer and dating. They stuck together and eventually married. Nat arrived shortly after their times at Hogwarts. Her brother arrived not far behind, just two-and-a-half years later.

Nat's brother, Shane, had yet to have his first instance of magic at the start of Nat's magical tale; he was anxiously awaiting it when Nat had hers, and still was when she went off to Hogwarts. The family also had an old housecat, Harry, which she lifted into the air in her first instance of magic at nine-and-a-half years of age. Fortunately, cats have nine lives, and so Harry landed right back on his feet, albeit confused as to why he'd been floating toward the ceiling. Nat's parents had been teaching her how to think about magic-casting throughout her life, so she was able to practice self-control--to an extent--after her first instance of magic, before attending Hogwarts.

Avery mostly homeschooled Nat and Shane. Jordan was busy working in the field of potions, often from home, as a part-time freelancer and part-time hire. Avery always wanted to be a parent, above all else; it was her dream to be one. She was willing to sacrifice some years of work to be a stay-at-home mom. The eventual set-up was with Jordan being focused on work to supply the family for Avery to be what she always wanted to be. With Nat at 11 years old, Avery was beginning to prepare for Shane to have his first instance of magic and go off to Hogwarts a few years later. Whether he went off to Hogwarts, or, in the reality that he didn't show signs of magic, went to school closer to home, she could begin picking up various types of jobs.

First Instance of Magic

Since Nat came from a magical family, she had an awareness about magic from a young age. At about nine-and-a-half, she accidentally made her family's housecat float up toward the ceiling. She is forever grateful that her first instance wasn't too traumatizing. She is also thankful for her family, because they taught her how to think about magic, so she could practice self-control once she began experiencing her abilities.
