Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
How in the world do I add a picture on this thread that doesn't require a link for access? I wish to do so foraesthetics
! Thanks in advance! Update: Thanks, Cass! You're awesome.
Roleplay with the lovelies, @Laurie Holmes and @Kenzie Thatcher!
Edit: Outfit is my Hogwarts robes; Nat doesn't look edgy in Year 1!
Break period finally arrived on Nat's first-ever day of classes. A familiar rush of adrenaline fueled her. Between classes, she would double-, triple-check her map of the castle and its surrounding grounds. She strove to guarantee she didn't miss a class due to being lost; because she was like this, she would always be early or on-time. The same applied to meeting at the Owlery, although she believed being punctual and not early would be preferable. She'd considered she should give Laurie time to arrive first and settle down, as this was her owl Kenzie and Nat would be meeting. Laurie and her owl, Bella, would likely appreciate a minute to themselves without Nat crashing in, bombarding them with her presence. Nat remembered fondly the conversation she'd held yesterday with Kenzie and Laurie in the library. She smiled to herself as she recalled Laurie's kind-hearted voice sweetly inviting the girls to meet her feathered companion. It was girls like these Nat figured she would make fast friends with, as well as, likely, retain a friendship with for years to come. It was their willingness to invite her to meet their owls, for example, which brought joy fluttering in Nat's chest. Due to Laurie's invite and the way Nat had been received by both girls the other day, Nat could envision quite the positive future at Hogwarts. It was one where she would go out and have many such seemingly small, but memorable in the long run, experiences, with friends who truly, thoroughly savored their times spent with herself.
Nat's first classes, which she had experienced not too many hours prior and thus which already resonated to Nat in a manner like they'd occurred yesterday, had been Herbology, DADA, and Potions, respectively. Herbology class woke her up, further than she'd already been, from walking on school grounds to reach her classroom; this meant she had a fabulous morning that brought a sunshiny positivity, which could be observed within Nat's every step. Potions was a rather dreary environment on a sunny noon. It mattered not to her; despite sunshine clearly improving her mood, she was, nonetheless, the type who loved being inside with the blinds closed and curtains shut, even in the middle of a bright day. Besides, she was so stoked that she'd gotten to have her first classes, any other details were rendered irrelevant. Nat hadn't been asked to do much in her classes. Primarily the purpose of her classes this date had been a detailing of what was to come during the school year. She was curious how the days went for the girls she, personally, already considered her friends; she wondered whether or not they'd been required to accomplish harder tasks than she'd been. She also wished to inquire about their schedules, to see if they shared any classes together like Kenzie had suggested they might.
Nat reminded herself to have patience. One thing at a time! You're going to see cute little Bella soon! Get excited! And, to be certain, she was enthused. She'd rarely interacted with owls in her lifetime, as her parents were the types to rent their messenger owls and not own pets; the exclusion to this rule was an ancient housecat that had once belonged to someone else in the family. Her parents had taken him in when this family member couldn't take care of him anymore. Nat was nine, and her brother was six. Perhaps because she and her brother had gotten older, their parents were less concerned about them sharing their house space with an animal--even if it was an animal with a foot in the wixen world, and, therefore, less annoying than animals which lived with muggles. She thought back to this cat and felt momentarily homesick, but it didn't last long because she just had too darn much to look forward to!
Nat waited outside of the Owlery for several minutes, barely containing her excitement and pacing since she saw no one else around. She entered the Owlery at the exact chime of the bells that signaled noon, the time the girls had designated would be the meeting time. The Owlery was relatively empty, with only a couple of other students loitering beside their owls, likely sending out to their parents hastily-scribbled letters; she daydreamed momentarily about what might be within those letters, perhaps detailing how their first classes had gone and how absolutely excited, or petrified, or annoyed they were. The lack of people in Nat's environment continued to relieve her of some social pressure. It gave her the impression of being enveloped by an aura that felt relatively homey and safe. She thrived with less people around, where she wasn't worried they were listening in and her only social obligation was to her people. She smiled with warm emotions again, thinking this would be a good interaction, although, of course, that remained to be seen.
Glancing around for the spot Laurie had described she would be waiting at, Nat eventually spotted her. She grinned Laurie's way and waved, but she wasn't sure Laurie saw her. With a spring in her step, she speed-walked toward Laurie. She was not only a speed-walker by habit, but also excited, so it was as though she had lightning feet now. Her energy noticeably radiated out of her like a sunbeam. Perhaps she had become overly enthusiastic, as she tended to, but, nevertheless, she had a good energy to her. Grinning when she reached just several feet away from Laurie, she smiled eagerly and waved again, hoping to catch her attention.

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
Nat please owl the link of this thread to Kenzie, and I will do the same. We have to alert her about this, as it would not make much sense if only we both keep on posting. It had been an exciting, long day and Laurie still felt the excitements had just begun. The first day of classes had been very busy. After a rushed breakfast in the Great Hall, Laurie had to hurry down to her classes. There had been Potions, Herbology, Transfiguration and Charms.
Yet, Laurie had not forgotten her conversation with Kenzie Thatcher and Natelie Anderson in the library. They were the closest to friends she had for a long time. Laurie was usually extremely shy, but with them, it was different. So much that she had invited them to see her pet owl, Bella, in the owlery. Laurie was waiting happily for the event, and she feared that Kenzie and Nat would forget and not show up.
After her last class, Charms had successfully finished, Laurie headed to the courtyard for her break. She would meet up with Kenzie and Nat directly in the owlery. Laurie wanted to head to the owlery a bit early, just to assure that Bella was comfortable and ready for meeting the two girls.
There was not much of a crowd there, most people just wanted to stretch and relax. The bells chimed for noon, and Laurie felt a jolt of excitement spread throughout her. The girls ought to be here by now!
Well, at least Laurie spotted Bella. The snowy white arctic owl hooted softly when Laurie saw her. Laurie had always been fond of animals, whether big or small. Once, she had raised two small fox-pups as her own. When Laurie got admission to Hogwarts, her aunt had promised to get her an owl.
All the summer, Bella had been Laurie's constant companion, and now she could not imagine life without her.
"Nat! I was worried you wouldn't come!" Laurie said in a joyful voice as she spotted her friend waving to her.
After both of them were together, Laurie asked-
" Where is Kenzie? "

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
Sorry guys for being late! It's been a crazyyyy week!
☼"I'm here!" I said, running to catch up to them. My blonde hair was down today, and flowing along with my cloak in the wind behind me as I ran.
My very first official day at Hogwarts was so indescribable! Truly, the only word that comes to mind is magical, and that just feels like the greatest understatement of the century! I was so excited for the day that I woke up early, so early that no one else in my dorm was awake yet. I could barely eat my breakfast because I was so eager to get to my classes. Charms, Flying, and Potions were the classes I attended today, and they were so much fun! In Charms, we learned a few basic spells and how to use our wands, and this kid next to me accidently chucked his wand across the room and straight into the helmet of a suit of armor! It was quite the spectacle. I quite enjoyed Potions as well. We learned about the different ingredients we'd be using throughout the year; the purposes they serve to the potions, the effects they have, where to find them, where they originate, etc. At the end of class, we even got to brew a very mild potion! I had so much fun!
My favorite class of the day, however, would have to be Flying! I was pretty nervous about it, given that as a Muggleborn I've never done anything like it before. Surprisingly, I'm actually really naturally talented at it!
After classes were over, I quickly made my way to the Owlery to meet up with Natalie and Laurie. Upon reaching our agreed rendezvous spot and time, I saw the two of them standing together and rushed to join them. The final strike of the clock chimed just as I reached them.
"I got here as fast as I could! I came all the way from the Quidditch Pitch for Flying! I truly underestimated the sheer mass of grounds here." I said, panting a little and pausing to catch my breath.☼

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
“No worries! I was so excited to come, I arrived as soon as I could!” Nat explained good-naturedly, to reassure Laurie. Looking at Bella, she smiled to herself. The owl appeared to be quite beautiful--and exceptionally cute, too.
“Ooo, how was Flying?” Nat inquired of Kenzie. She was a smidgen scared of Flying, and was curious how Kenzie handled it. Although, part of her was excited and inquisitive about Flying, as much as she was fearful. If First-Years learned it, it couldn’t be that hard! Nat hated heights, but, since she grew up in a magical household, she trusted magic enough that she felt she could surpass her fears. She was similarly afraid of DADA, but what was on the menu for her to learn this year did not seem too difficult, so, she assumed, there would be a similar situation with Flying, and she would thus handle both just fine.
“How’d you enjoy the sun? I had Potions before this, but it felt good to be outside for Herbology in the early morning!” To be fair, what Nat did not explain was that the sunlight was perhaps one of the best parts of Herbology to her. She spoke more optimistically than she necessarily felt about her enjoyment of, and interest in, the class. She thought back to a funny moment from class that day. A sweet student next to herself had sneezed after breathing in the spores from a plant. This plant was set out for the professor to explain it was one that the class was to study for a significant chunk of the year. Nat also sneezed later from the spores, and had a good laugh with this sweet student over it. She wished she'd caught his name, but perhaps she would when she had more Herbology sessions. Despite her general disinterest in plants outside of their aesthetic properties, she was looking forward to attempting to nurture a plant. She didn’t have the personal drive to do it on her own time, but felt it would be a nice hobby to take up someday given an initial, external push, like Herbology class. Nat realized she was daydreaming about her classes again, and snapped herself out of it, attempting to re-focus on the current discussion. As much as she loved daydreaming, she didn't want to miss out on visiting Bella with her friends!

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
‘Oh, finally!’ Laurie’s excitement could be heard in her eager voice. When Kenzie had rushed in, she had felt a wave of delight wash over her. Now she was reassured that both the girls remembered, and cared. It was nice to have some friends at this place.
“ You had flying? Oh gosh, I was so excited for it! I had potions, transfiguration, Herbology and charms. Charms was the most exciting of them all. The professor was all fun and she taught us how to do spells. Then , when one child tried, he accidentally turned himself into a pig. It was amazing! So was Herbology and-”
Laurie uttered the word ‘Sorry’ under her breath and gave a dry chuckle. She did not mean to drive the girls away.
When Nat asked Kenzie about flying, Laurie listened intently. That was one thing she did not want to miss. Of course, the whole day had been exciting enough. She couldn’t believe that she was hanging out with students just on her second day! To think that she was actually scared of Hogwarts, before. She was enjoying it quite a lot. All the corridors and everything, it felt mystical.
Nat asked to go to see Bella, which bought Laurie to her senses. She could not waste time day dreaming like this! She had an owl to show the two girls. She led Nat and Kenzie to the place where Bella was perching peacefully.
“ Bella,” Laurie crooned in a low and gentle voice, “ Come here and say hello.” Laurie ended with a soft whistle. Bella gave a soft hoot and flew over to the girls and pecked their ears in a friendly manner.
" Good girl," said Laurie and gave the Arctic owl a lump of sugar.

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
Nat smiled as she listened to her friend ramble, enjoying her excitement. She immediately said "It's okay, no need to be sorry!" when Laurie apologized. Nat had the same overapologetic tendencies, and noticed the correlation at once when Laurie had done it, herself.
Nat attempted to hide her discomfort, being unused to owls, as Bella lifted off, flew over her head, then landed on her, poking her with her beak. Simultaneously, she felt a vague and hard-to-place, but definitely present, sense of wonder over it. When Bella perched once more on Laurie's shoulder, and Laurie handed Bella sugar, Nat began to giggle excitedly. It had anxious undertones, as Nat was an anxious person in general who struggled with new situations, but, overall, it was joyous.
"She's so cute," Nat complimented. "A-and gorgeous! Where'd you get a snowy owl?! She's amazing!--I haven't seen one this close in-person! I love her so much already." Nat felt giddiness flow through her. It was hard for her to register how this was her first time touching and interacting with an owl! It was equally hard to make a mental-emotional connection that this was her first day of classes at Hogwarts. She supposed the happy feeling that hung over her, or her adrenaline and excitement in general, was probably all the proof she needed that these would become core memories. She was already gaining new experiences, outside of learning in classes or even meeting new friends; that was wonderful to her, stretching above her start-of-Hogwarts expectations.

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
Kenzie followed the two girls further into the Owlery, marveling at everything surrounding her. Birds were swooping in and out of the windows, circling the skies above. It was surprisingly quiet, quieter than she had been expecting it to be, considering it was a sanctuary just for the birds and it was covered to the brim with them.
Laurie led them over to a particular bird that was perched up onto a railing, who Kenzie presumed to be Bella. "Aw, she's so cute!" she said, admiring the bird but not reaching out to touch Bella.
Kenzie loved nature and animals, and the wizarding world has much to offer in that regard. But, Kenzie was still hesitant about interacting with such things. Everything was still far too new to her. Plus, Kenzie had a fear of owls when she was a kid. Talk about Gryffindor bravery.
"How long have you had her?" she asked Laurie, still keeping her distance from but being cheerful enough to show Laurie that she was interested. "How did you come up with the name Bella?"
As Laurie answered, Kenzie kept her smile warm and cheerful. She wanted to make sure her friend knew that she was excited to meet Bella and that she was having a good time.

Salutations to a Feathered Friend!
“Thanks, Nat!” Laurie said with a huge smile, she was really fond of her owl and found it extremely pleasing when others liked her.
“I got her from that Diagon Alley shop, Magical Menagerie. She was just a newborn when I bought her. It really seemed like owls grow as fast as bamboo plants! And by the way, just one correction, Bella is an Arctic owl, not a snowy one. They were too frisky, that is why I chose Bella. Again, I’m really happy you liked her!”
Then, Laurie turned to Kenzie. “ I got her about three or three and a half months back. Her breed was rare, and she was the only one left. And for the name…. I don’t know. I’ve just always been fond of the name ‘ Bella’ a lot.”
Laurie checked the time on her watch and sadly said-
“ Oh! The break times almost up. I was really, really excited about today, and I’m really sad it’s almost over. I’m sure Bella had as much delight in meeting you as I did, and that’s a lot.”
Laurie stopped, hoping not to overwhelm her friends. She shifted a few places on the ground, pacing back and forth.
“ I think we should hang out more often. We all are from different houses, so we can tell each other what’s going on in their common rooms and dormitories. Do you agree?”

Closing due to beginning a new school year! It can be inferred what happens next; we hang out for a little longer, perhaps go someplace else that day. We continue to hang out on occasion throughout Year 1.
