Fin. Stacking Shelves Detention PV Giselle Lam and Ash Brown

Walking towards the library after a long afternoon of classes, Giselle sighed as she remembered the detention she and her friend, Ash, was to receive that day. The day before, they had been caught duelling in the library, which, to Giselle, was quite a harmless thing to do. From when she was young, Giselle simply hated detentions, as it was always dull work from the past experiences she had. Rubbing her forehead, she tried to put the thought out of her head and to not think of what was standing before her. But that was hard.

Ughhhhhh. Detention again. But I’ll have to complete it anyway, I guess.

Beckoning herself forward, Giselle opened the door. As she did so, Giselle saw that the librarian was already waiting for her. Casting around for hints of what her punishment might be, Giselle heaved a great sigh as she saw several stacks of books waiting for her. At that point, Giselle groaned. That would surely mean that they were to do some work there to do. Agitated, she bit her lip and sighed yet again.

Giselle wasn’t really listening to the librarian’s speech as she already knew what the punishment was to be. That was until she heard that that he would know it if she and Ash cheated on stacking the shelves. On the contrary, she didn’t know exactly why, but it seemed as though that was it. Feeling that it would be another day of hard work, the exact thing she wasn’t in the mood for, Giselle pursed her lips and moved towards one of the stacks of books.

As she started to stack some books together, her hand sweating, she heaved them into one of the shelves that stood in front of her. The stacks of books were quite heavy up to Giselle’s standards, and as she felt her hand aching as she reached for a few more books, Giselle looked at Ash to see how her progress was. Turning back, as she didn’t want to lose time, she took up yet another stack of books and sorted them out, finally putting them in the shelves.

I still can’t believe that this was just the start… has someone jinxed the clock to make it stop?

Giselle didn’t really mind stacking the books together, it was just that the thought of it was overwhelming. Hoping that she had done well enough to not have to redo the whole thing again, Giselle yawned.

After her fun classes were over, Ash hopped towards the library with a freshened mind after dumping her books into her dorm bed. Library? She was going to pick up a book to read? Nah. It was her detention after being caught by the librarian duelling with her friend, Giselle Lam somewhere behind the large shelves. She secretly waved at Giselle before the librarian began assigning them their work. Ash never had a problem with detentions— she'd already gotten them loads in her muggle schools because while she didn't have any friends back then, there were her enemies who always picked fights with her. Detentions weren't a part of her concern UNLESS she had to spend it with a scary teacher. And hopefully, the librarian didn't seem scary. And then they were asked to shelve the returned books in their respective places. Well, Ash wouldn't have noticed the several large stacks of books if he hadn't mentioned it. She looked from the books to the librarian with a done expression. Huh? This is going to take ages!! DID THEY BORROW BOOKS OR THE ENTIRE LIBRARY!? Ash thought, now staring at the pile. If she used her wand here, she'd perhaps end up getting more punishments, because obviously, this was detention, which meant no cheating. Ash nodded stiffly as the librarian finished speaking and pushed a pile towards each of them. Her face grimaced when the books reached inches above her head. Escaping was impossible, so without any further thought, Ash began her work, picking up books and placing them on their shelves. Ash didn't have any problems lifting up a lot of books at a time, but it would have been easier if she didn't occasionally have to jump to put books belonging to higher parts of the shelves because of her short height— the biggest flaw of her life. Ash had lost count of the books she shelved; they seemed almost never-ending. Ash hoped it would end soon; she even had chocolates in her pockets she brought to share with Giselle when they were done.

As Giselle stacked the last book on the shelves, wiping her sweat, she smiled at the thought that it was all over. The detention, however, had not taught her to not duel anywhere outside if the duelling club, but made her spend most of the time wondering where she would duel next. As far she knew, they broke two rules, maybe even three, but it seemed to Giselle that it was still an extremely small matter. Clearly, the librarian just wanted help from some to his students, but Giselle dared not complain or to the librarian unless she wanted another one.

Giselle’s eyes lit up when she saw Ash holding some of her sweets to share with her. It was really generous of Ash to share them with Giselle, as she thought so. Her friend was also holding some chocolates, and judging by looks of it, Giselle had heard of them once before - in the Hogwarts Express while Audrey was explaining about kitkats and cadburies. She did think that they tasted awesome, and it seemed as though she was to eat it again. She then quickly muted a thanks to Ash, and took out some sugar quills and even more chocolates - chocolate frogs, to be exact. Hardly believing it, Giselle mumbled a hushed word to the librarian about finishing the work, and shot out of the library, eager to eat the sweets that were waiting for them.

Ash wiped the sweat off her forehead, looking at the remaining nine books she had to place on the shelves. People perhaps never knew it— the happiness you feel while breaking a rule... not their fault, anyway, they are just too busy— or scared of all that. She couldn't wait for their detention to end as the thought of chocolates again began haunting her. She quickly threw put the books into their respective places and decided to check on Giselle if she was done, and she was!! Ash watched out to make sure the librarian wasn't looking at them before taking out a handful of various chocolates from her pocket she brought for Giselle, because of course, eating wasn't allowed in the library and even though Ash would never quit not caring about the rules, another detention was beyond her tolerance at the moment. Smiling, Ash handed out Giselle Kitkats and her personally favourite Snickers and got sugar quills and the best chocolate frogs in return. "Thanks!!" She said in a tired-but-happy hushed tone. After swiftly stuffing all their chocolates into their robes' pockets, Giselle informed the librarian that they were done and they finally rushed out of the library. Ash had learned her lesson. She wasn't going to do it again. She had realised it was wrong, and yes, she regretted it. I'm never going to make any sound while duelling in the library again, she thought, eating her chocolate frog and wondering which rule to break next with her new friend.
