A Little Lost PV Closed

"Oh!" Lyn gasped as her shoulder hit a boy she didn't know. She shouldn't have hit him, but she may as well apologize. It's what a good student, friend, or even just a random person would do.
"I'm sorry," she apologized, crouching down to help him. A bag slung over his shoulder had fallen off of him- it contained writing materials? School supplies? Whatever it was, it contained ink. Lyn could see a blue stain spreading throughout his papers. She bent down and steadied the ink jar.
"Really sorry," she said again. This time it was because of real guilt. "Were you going somewhere? You're probably late now. Sorry about your ink..." she trailed off as she realized she was babbling.

Lyn didn't understand how people could just walk by, seeing this boy on the ground. It was her natural instinct to help others, and she never gave a thought about others' differing from her. She believed that everyone was truly the same.

"I'm Lyn, by the way." Lyn used a softer tone, trying to collect herself. She sorted through the papers- the ink stained ones in a pile, the clean ones in another, and handed them to him. "Here."

Alex looked up to see a girl about his age apologizing to him. He shook his head slightly. ”It’s alright, don’t worry,” he said in his normal soft tone. The girl seemed nice enough, I mean, she didn’t seem to want to hurt him in anyway. He noticed the black and blue stain growing on his parchment. The ink. Great. He started to gather up his quills that had fallen to put them back in his bag. He was about to grab the parchment when the girl seemed to help him. She steadied the ink and collected his papers. He smiled a bit and looked at her. ”Again, don’t worry. It’s fine. It’s just a bit of parchment, I’ll survive. I was only going to the library, so I’m not late,” he said with a smile. The girl said her name was Lyn. ”I’m Alex. Nice to meet you,” he said softly. It wasn’t every other day that people helped him. Honestly he had gotten in weird situations and no one would help him. He didn’t mind though. He got used to it. He looked at the ink stained parchment and the saved ones that Lyn handed him. ”Thanks,” he said with a bright smile as he placed them in his bag.

"Thanks," said Alex. He gave her a smile and started filing the papers into his bag.
Lyn blushed. Often times when she helped people, they'd be ungrateful for her help. "I'm, uh, well, I don't know where I'm supposed to be going. Or where I am."
She gazed around the majestic halls of Hogwarts and sighed. "I mean, there's so many things I need to learn. Classes for me haven't started yet, and I don't know how to get house points!"
Lyn sighed again. "Mind helping me?" She didn't like asking for help- her parents would see it as horrible that she didn't already excel here. But she wasn't going to tell Alex that. Her parents weren't here. She should be exited about that- no need to constantly be looking over her shoulder only to see them, eyes filled with disappointment at every mistake. All she felt was a twisting inside her stomach, like she was doing something wrong by asking for help. It's what her parents had taught her, and she supposed it'd take a while to fully shake that off.
As soon as she did, of course, Hogwarts would be over, and she'd have to face her parents again.

Alex smiled slightly as she said she didn’t know were to be. ”Of course I’ll help! Well, today we don’t have classes, it’s a Sunday, but when you do have classes, you can look at your schedule and it will tell you what you need to do. Right now we’re on the second floor in the corridor, which is near a classroom and the study room. You don’t really need to be anywhere today.” he said with a smile. He likes helping people for it made him think he was doing something good for another person. ”And for house points, you have to do your homework, higher grades get more points,” he said with a smile. This girl seemed like she was new, but it didn’t occur to him that people could join in the middle towards the end of the year. Whatever, it didn’t matter. She seemed like she was uncomfortable with asking for help. That was understandable, but she shouldn’t be afraid. If someone said no, well then screw them. But asking for help was a good thing. You don’t have to do everything on your own. Alex was like her before, but he just accepted that asking for help was good.

Lyn nodded, committing what Alex had said to memory. Homework to get house points. Second floor is near the study room. It's Sunday (Well, she knew that already, but she didn't know if Hogwarts had any special things they did on Sunday. She hardly knew anything about Hogwarts- the disadvantage of having a Muggle mom and a dad who she never saw).

"So," Lyn began awkwardly. "I guess you could introduce me to some of your other friends later. Or just like hang out somewhere." She blushed furiously, turning away to hide it from Alex. "Sorry. Probably not the best way to ask that."

Inside, the young Hufflepuff groaned. She seemed to be forgetting everything she'd ever learned about social interactions with boys.

So... not much.

Lyn schooled her face into an impenetrable, emotionless mask. Able to compose herself, she turned back to Alex, who was looking confused at her sudden turn away. "Anyway, you know what I mean, I hope."

She couldn't imagine Alex saying no- he was nicer than anyone she'd met in quite a while. But it was his decision. Lyn would respect it, whatever it was, but she still wanted him to agree. Alex might have some other things to do- but as he had said, it was a Sunday, and being out wandering the halls was a good indicator he had nowhere to be urgently.

Alex smiled as the girl thought. She must be really new here. Though he was also in his first year, he remembered the beginning of the year and how hard it was to find all of the classes and where they were for the castle was so big. He felt so small, but he got it down in the end. He raised an eyebrow a bit at her comment of meeting his friends. She phrased it a bit weirdly, but he thought she got the point across. She seemed like she was flustered a bit. Was she okay? Hopefully she wasn’t embarrassed. He definitely didn’t like being embarrassed and he thought that no one should go through that. He chuckled a bit. ”Yeah I know what you mean. Yeah, I can totally introduce you to some of my friends. Most of the people at this school are friendly, so I think you’ll get along just fine,” he said with a smile. ”They’re probably busy with studying at the moment, so I’ll introduce you when they’re free. Or you guys might just end up meeting each other before that, you never know,” he said. She seemed like a nice girl, so he thought she would find friends quickly.

Lyn shrugged, deciding not to mention he was the only person who'd talked to her. "I hope so," she said, smiling back at Alex.
She gestured for Alex to walk with her. She didn't know where she was going, but she didn't want to be found in the corridors, alone, with a boy. It's not that she didn't like Alex. If something like that had happened back a home, if someone had found her, they would've immediately said she liked Alex- like, liked Alex. He was nice, but she'd met him a few minutes ago.
"So," Lyn said tentatively. "Where is everything? Where's the best place to talk that isn't randomly stuck in a hall in the middle of nowhere?"
Well. Hogwarts wasn't exactly the middle of nowhere, but in the towering castle, with the corridors more like labyrinths, it certainly seemed so.
Lyn looked down at her Hufflepuff badge, sewn to her cloak (she found them annoying. Most of the time she was tripping around with her feet caught in it. That was what had happened with Alex), and noticed the boy's corresponding Ravenclaw one.
Lyn had hoped herself to be in Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff was... a surprise. She was high on an intellectual scale and thought Ravenclaw above the other Houses.

He smiled. ”You will. Trust me,” he said. Lyn gestured to Alex to follow her. He fell into step with her as they walked down the corridor, looking at all the moving photographs as they smiled at him. He never really thought about being found with Lyn, because he was gay. He thought she was a kind person that was a friend, not a potential love interest. He looked at her as she asked where the best place to hang out was. He tapped his chin. ”Well, I think personally that in the summer, most people are going to be outside talking, plus it’s a nice day.” he said with a smile. ”I would give you a tour, but it would take a long time. This castle is quite huge. Unless you want me to,” he said shrugging his shoulders. He looked at her badge, seeing that she was a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff was actually an amazing house in Alex’s eyes, it always seemed to be home to the most friendly people that he’d ever met. He had a friend there, and he was so kind to everyone he met. Alex always looked for the good in every house, because they all were places that would welcome you regardless.
