An Unexpected Swim

It was a cool April evening, just before dusk, when Rowan found her steps bringing her down to the Great Lake. The previous day had been a horrible one, and Rowan was overwhelmed with the urge to escape the castle: where the walls felt like they were collapsing in on her and the crowds were suffocating. She had been here to the lake a few other times over the course of the year, and found that the soft emerald grass, the swaying trees, and the calm water brought her a sense of serenity. During her visits, which were always in solitude, Rowan could be found climbing (or attempting to climb) the thick, prickly limbs of the cedar trees. Thus is where she ended up on this particular day, standing at the base of an incredibly tall trunk. But whereas the girl would usually begin her ascent right then and there, something unusual caught her attention.
Another young girl sat by the edge of the water, her robes lined with blue. Ravenclaw. Rowan stayed quiet, watching the little Ravenclaw, several emotions filing through her mind and becoming apparent on Rowan’s face as it contorted into various expressions (Rowan was a very visual thinker). She was frustrated, as she had thought that it was only her who knew of this quiet corner along the shore, and she had thought of it as her place. But certainly, that was stupid, there were numerous students who attended Hogwarts, Rowan couldn’t have thought that it was only she who visited this clearing. And she had only been here a few times before. Logically, there would be others-
Rowan cut off her own train of thought by stepping out from behind the tree and approaching the Ravenclaw girl. She walked along the lakeside, treading carefully, preferring make little noise; like a serpent creeping up on its foes, slithering silently through the foliage. Perhaps she was too focused on staying silent. Once she was standing about six feet away from the other girl, Rowan stopped and coughed lightly. “Hello,” the young vipress said, carefully controlling her voice into a cool and hard tone, and taking a step closer. “Wh-“ she was cut short as her foot met an unfortunate fate with an exposed root. Rowan squealed as she lost her balance and toppled into the lake, splashing water up onto the shore. She gasped at the cold of the lake, treading water frantically and rapidly trying to blink the water from her eyes.

April, Afternoon]
┏ ┓Promise walked down to the lake, she found it a peaceful place to read a wondeful novel she'd started earlier., today wasn't the most amazing day weather wise, it quite gloomy for mid-april. She walked to the edge of the water and looked down at it's murkey depths, she stepped back a couple paces, she didn't want to go for an unplanned swim. She turned around and took a seat by the lapping shores and cracked open her book, this quite place was awsome for any quite activity. But just as she was absorbed in an intense paragraph, a girl came up from behind her,
"Hello" The slytherin girl said after a light cough, "Wh-" The girl continued, but she was cut off. Promise could look up and greet the girl back, but before she could, she heard a huge splash and noises of someone struggling in the water. Promise didn't need to look over to assume what had happend.
"Hello, I'm Promise" She said, not taking her eyes of her book. She was having a particularly bad day, and didn't feel like doing anything but completeing her book by the great lake. She didn't have the mood to help anyone out of the, probably freezing, lake, for the record, it disturberd her peaceful momment of literature.
"Sorry to say this, but you should watch where your going."┗ ┛

Once the shock of the cold water wore off, Rowan began to tread water, finding the action much more taxing then it would usually be due to the weight of her robes. She didn't speak for many minutes, still tremendously embarassed. I can't believe that just happened, Rowan thought as she carefully turned herself so that she was floating on her back, looking up at the evening sky. As she lay there upon the clear lake, her ears dipped underwater, and everything became quiet. Rowan closed her eyes, relishing the peacefulness of it all. Little fish swam around her ankles, and she wiggled her toes at them, giggling slightly in the cool air. Then, there was a voice, muffled and distorted from the water clogging her ears. Rowan quickly raised her head above the water to hear the end of what Promise was saying. Her cheeks turned bright red as she remembered how she had gotten into the water in the first place. Rowan peeled off her robe and held the sleeve as it floated to the surface. She threw it back onto shore, splashing Promise with the travelling water. Rowan snickered and ducked under the water when Promise looked up from her book.
