This year was definitely not good for Linda. Now she found herself missing her uncle so much. How wonderful would it be if she could spend time with him and his snakes now...

That wasn't a problem for her that she didn't speak this language. She understood it and found its own beauty in spending time just listening to their speech. Sometimes Linda regretted she couldn't speak in same language, but she was already lucky enough to be able to understand.

And so today she found herself coming all the way from her room to the dungeons. Oh how she wished she could go to Chamber of Secrets! Sure she'd find some parselmouths there, right? Only they could go into it so she'd meet a lot of snakes and students, right?

But she will never know that. She is not getting to that room and so in this huge castle she'll spend a lot of time searching for a parselmouth who would agree to let her listen to this beautiful language of snakes. So this was how Linda now was spending time here. Maybe she could at least meet someone who would be coming there or out of there? This was still the best place to search and wait, right?

Linda remembered the story of her uncle about that room that won't open for her the same way it did for him when he was studying in Hogwarts. She imagined the feeling of opening the door first time ever. Coming in and spending time with all those who are also parselmouths. They could speak this way to each other in any situation with not much who'd understand what they said. It must be something incredible!

After some time of waiting, Linda sat down on the floor looking around. Maybe someone would pass by soon? But she already spent some time waiting with nothing happening. Maybe, if she would wait just a little more, there will be someone? She felt so naive, however, couldn't do anything about it. Just experience it again here in Hogwarts. Parseltongue. Maybe see a snake even. It's not that much she wishes, isn't it?
Soon to meet @Tristan Theramin

Are you a Parselmouth?

The day was not yet over when Tristan stepped out of the Slytherin common room with his snake Saverin in hand. The beauty of the animal enchanted him but he allowed the snake to slither back into his pocket where he would be hidden as usual. The beauty of the day was apparent and Tristan was content with wandering around the halls of the castle with the strange creature in his pocket and allow the day to pass and occur to him rather than actively seeking out an activity or opportunity of some sort. Tristan entered the dungeons with such a lackadaisical mindset and perhaps that is why when he saw the young girl he allowed himself to stop. He decided in the whim of the moment to interact with her despite her youth. She was after all the only other person he had seen so far that was confident enough to sit on the floor in a random part of the castle other than himself. He snuck up quietly behind her, casting Orchideous, and offering the flower to her. Tristan bowed with a flourish, tipping his top hat, and smiling with a smirk. “My name is Tristan of the Noble House of Theramin. How do you do, madamoiselle. You are quite young, what are you doing here wandering in the dungeons, do you seek danger or adrenaline.” He displayed himself as a character, perhaps most similar to the muggle world’s Mad Hatter or perhaps Willy Wonka. He had slightly crazed look in his eyes and a smirk that showed his mischievousness beyond the normal prankster. This was of course not his true self but Tristan was in the mood for some acting and this was harmless after all. There was a twinkle in his eyes that displayed his intelligence. Despite all this crazed effect, there was still a perfect nobility to him, he was clearly a Pureblood and had the bearing of one. His presence was dominating, with the powerful charisma of a prince or perhaps a knight. There was indeed something different about Tristan and it made him appear far more important than he truly was. He knelt down to eye level with the little girl and cocked his head to the side. He looked into her eyes and asked, “What are you doing down here, little girl as you are not a Slytherin? Are you waiting for someone, dear? You better hurry on up, anything could happen down here and I would not want anything bad happening to you?” Tristan realized as he spoke these words that it sounded a little crazed or perhaps threatening. He did not at all mean to sound so strange in front of the girl. He blushed and apologized, “I am so sorry, that sounded a little crazy, I genuinely was just worried for you, as you seemed to just be sitting here, naively. Do you need anything? Are you lost? Are you looking for a friend down here in the dungeons?

Linda was still thinking about time with her uncle when she heard someone coming. There was an older guy who approached her, but did it with a flower. She accepted the flower while remembering she saw him during the ball he was having at his mansion.

When he called her young, she felt surprised. However, for someone who was obviously older, probably 13 years old girl was looking really young and even little. Especially, at least now, this was perfectly describing how she felt.

I am Linda Ramirez. What I'm seeking? Well, it depends on how you consider it as for me it's neither one of these. She was proud to be Ramirez. Pureblood wealthy, they were quite famous, but most interesting, their history going back to war was something Linda would be only starting to appreciate later.

She looked at Tristan calmly with no sign of been intimidated by his appearance. He definitely looked and acted noble and like he was someone important. However, Linda didn't know him yet that well to judge whether he was like that or it mostly felt this way.

I know there's Chamber of Secrets not that far from here. So, there surely could be a lot of parseltongues. Maybe I could meet one of them here and they would agree on my asking. Since I can't enter it, I thought it is the best place for getting more chances for this to happen.

Just now Linda finally noticed at the slightly crazed look on the upperclassmen. However, she still didn't seem to feel scared by it, nor she looked like she cared about it much. He was most likely Slytherin, so maybe she should ask him if he knew someone? Could this guy be parseltongue himself?

Naively? Ah, so this is how it looks from the side. I guess you could say so, is it naive to hope to meet parseltongue here? We're in a big castle and even though I'm here second year, I still didn't manage to meet parseltongue. She looked at Tristan full of curiosity. Was she naive now? Perhaps he was right. Who else would be just sitting so relaxed in dungeons without seeming to care much about surrounding? However, did it bother her now? No. She didn't care about it.

Her thoughts stopped when she thought she could hear a snake somewhere nearby. Linda suddenly looked excited at the opportunity that it was real, but after looking around, she still saw only Tristan. However, could it be he had a snake? Could it be that her naivety, as he said and probably was right, brought her to the result she so desperately wanted?

Do you have a snake with you now? Are you one of them whom I was hoping to meet here today? Are you parselmouth? She looked suddenly so happy, enthusiastic and hopeful. That could definitely look strange but Linda didn't think about it. If she was right, maybe he would agree to let her hear parseltongue?

Are you a Parselmouth?

Tristan cocked his head to the side with a blank expression on his face, curious at the young Ramirez’s words. “Ramirez hmm. Have I met you before? Were you at my family’s ball in the summer by chance? Perhaps I have seen you there.” His demeanour was regal but gentle perhaps as a gentle prince who knew of the hardships of his people. “Neither adrenaline nor danger? Hmmm… La plupart des gens…most people” Tristan trails off after the comment, narrowing his eyes and raising one eyebrow, as a wise old man such as Gaius would do. He questioned her motives with a smile, “You wish to find a parselmouth? It is quite an interesting request. Why do you believe such a person would reveal themselves to you, Miss Ramirez?” He smirked and looked directly into Ramirez’s eyes perhaps to intimidate, perhaps to determine her true motives, perhaps to deduce her desire. “Perhaps you have an emotional connection to a parselmouth, perhaps you were fascinated by snakes as a child, or perhaps you are only but a curious little Gryffindor.” He was bemused at the little girl’s audacity to assume that a Slytherin would help her out in such a request, to let her in into their founder’s chamber. Oh, she was lucky that she had been found by him, rather than the rest of the house. “Oh, you wished to enter the Chamber of Secrets? Hmm, well, your strategy is quite lacking, miss. No one would let you in to the chamber when it is our founder’s pride and joy.” Tristan would of course let her in, but it was good to teach her a lesson to not trust anything a Slytherin said. He did not believe in lying but this young girl was too naively trusting for her own good. “And how would you know whether or not the person you are speaking to was a Parselmouth. What is your method of verifying this?” Tristan was being quite harsh on her if he was honest. He genuinely meant her no harm but he wondered if his barrage of criticisms would offend the youth. However, Ramirez seemed to be a sprightly and intelligent youth so perhaps that worry was not needed. In fact, Ramirez seemed to be quite capable of achieving this goal for her self so doubly so this worry was not indeed required or perhaps it was indeed doubly required due to her Gryffindor confidence. “How would you verify that a Slytherin was telling you the truth? How would you be assured that they will call the snake to attack you rather than let you in to the chamber as you so desire? Did you make sure to let someone know you would find yourself in this location or are you here alone where someone can take you into the chamber and leave you in there forever.” Tristan was surprised at himself sounding so menacing. It was definitely the sleep deprivation from studying that had caused his demeanour to revert to the character of his past.

Linda smiled. She didn't think he'd recognize her, although there was always possibility to know the Ramirez. Especially if one had a family history going back to dark arts and dark side during war. You certainly can recognize me from that ball in summer. Most likely you welcomed me and my brother as all the other guests there, but I don't think we had much interaction there, if any.

Linda smiled mysteriously at his words. They don't have to, but only they can speak parseltongue. She emphasized speak, as she could understand the language, but not speak it. As far as I'm concerned, it has nothing to do with Gryffindor. I could as well be in Slytherin, like some in my family, but ended up in Gryffindor. She didn't mean it to sound mean, but neither she cared about it much. It sounded like it was their way to talk to each other, since all the talking from Tristan was seemingly coming in polite warning.

Linda chuckled at his next words. Either way I'm not getting in there, unless I meet some parselmouth who'll be interested in it, which is surely hardly ever could happen. But agree, there's something to the strategy that might actually work. This is so far the best place to meet one of them out of whole castle. Why do you find it amusing to keep talking to little girl like me instead of doing your warnings in another way, though? You are Slytherin and yet you don't attempt to hurt me, so up until certain level I can trust you will keep going on without harming me. Especially, a member of Theramin house surely won't hurt someone like me, right? I mean at that ball I felt like all your family is close to noble. She paused only for a second before continuing. There was so much guessing as she spoke. Whatever parselmouth will say to their snake or vice versa I will understand. I won't be able to say anything in this language and probably won't have enough time to protect myself from attack. However, I'll know about it at the moment of their communication. At these words Linda stood up and looked at his eyes directly. You or anyone else leave me in Chamber of Secrets and earlier or later some professor or prefect will notice. I'm not afraid, so could you stop trying to scare me? For good or bad I understand the language parselmouth needs to use for snake to understand them. Even if I would be in some other house, I would do the same. I might look naive, but I don't think you can harm me, but neither it means that I trust you completely. Her eyes, that looked generally calm before, now were looking empty and tired. She had enough with this long speech and if he didn't have intention to move conversation to something new, she'll just go back to her room and think about how she could achieve her goal in some way else. Not all parselmouths are dangerous. And even so, I might as well learn something new. Maybe finally understand my family's love for dark arts.

Are you a Parselmouth?

As Linda confirmed Tristan’s suspicion that her family had attended his summer ball, he considered the possibility of revealing his ability, the ability the girl was seeking for. He answered, first, however, the comment about the houses that the young girl made, “Well, yes, I do not really believe in the stereotypes of the houses either. In fact, perhaps, if this was not too much of a disrespect to tradition, I would adamantly argue that there is no need for dividing the students into houses, except for perhaps the fun of competing for the House Cup at the end of the year. Most Muggle schools in fact do not divide students by personality or stereotypes of such. If at any time they do indeed divide students, it is by random selection and has always been such, or by sleeping quarters.” Tristan, personally, believed inter-house unity was a necessity at this point and even better would be to remove the division houses at least in the older years so that this division did not continue to exist in adult Wizarding Society, as it does today. If a society was divided against itself, it was likely to fall apart, and yet Wizarding United Kingdom was divided since childhood, a mistake in his own opinion. “Well, yes, I am a parselmouth, why else would I be entertaining you.” He smirked with a sparkle in his eye, “but I don’t think I will be letting you into the Chamber, no, instead, we shall stay right here.” He was amused at the girl’s attempts at saying the House of Theramin would certainly not hurt her, oh yes, this generation would not, but two generations earlier, oh, yes, they would. They were Pureblood fanatic after all. “Darling, the House of Theramin, would have certainly hurt you, but thirty years ago, you’re lucky my family and I are strange for members of the Theramin family.”The girl looked at his eyes directly and hers looked fatigued. “Well, then…” Tristan replied mysteriously. “Come out Saverin, my dear boy.” The snake came out and peeked his head out of the sleeve where he currently was, and hissed as he looked around. It was black with yellow rings. Saverin was of the species Emerald Gazer and it was around 110 centimeters long. The snake was calm and stared directly at Linda with a seemingly intelligent look, although, of course, it only had the prescience of a snake. If was a cute snake rather than a menacing one, although Theramin imagined that his pet, quite disliked being called cute. Theramin on the other hand quite enjoyed being commented on his cuteness, and rather preened under the attention when people noticed his handsomeness. Of course not, Tristan, truly disliked it as well and was at best neutral to appearance compliments. He rather be complimented for unique ideas or his intelligence rather than appearance. He smiled at Ramirez and replied, “Well, then here you go, you’ve gotten what you wished for. Do with it what you will, but promise me you won’t tell anyone that I am a parseltongue under oath that you will get warts on your face for a week if you tell anyone. Well, I was being facetious about the oath, only don’t tell anyone, I will find out if you do.

Linda listened to Tristan, curious how he could sound completely different when he stopped making warnings. I think some of wizarding schools also don't divide their students. I guess House Cup is what makes it a bit fun here. And always someone will be arguing with others about which house is the best. She laughed softly.

Now I can say this idea of mine could've been naive, but it definitely gave the result. Linda smiled enthusiastically. She was fine with not getting to Chamber of Secrets now. In fact, it would be indeed weird if someone from the beginning would agree to let her in there. Hogwarts was a place where one could expect to get help, but also it can offer danger, which was proved to be true every ball.

Would they hurt a member of Ramirez family? This generation is different from what we have till my grandparents. Those were all supporters of dark side, believing that only Purebloods should be staying alive. Well, anyway, sorry for my wrong assumption. On that summer ball I got a feeling that you wouldn't hurt. She said thoughtfully.

Saverin. Nice name. Linda took a moment to truly appreciate the Emerald Gaser snake in front of her. She felt joy listening to parseltongue and looking at Saverin. Can I touch Saverin? And sure, I won't tell anyone about it, thank you.

She remembered about time with her uncle and his snakes. Linda couldn't remember if she saw Emerald Gaser before or not, but this one looked rather intelligent and calm. Could she say so about snake? Probably, it didn't make any sense. However, this was a description that came to Linda's mind first.

Do you like talking to him? You seem to be quite intelligent and I have a feeling like you have a lot of great ideas. And I know it probably doesn't make sense, but Saverin looks quite intelligent as well. She looked at Tristan for a second.

As she returned her gaze at the snake, she couldn't stop admiring everything about it. Linda felt so happy that her seemingly naive idea that could bring her to some danger actually gave her result that she so much desired. Maybe this wasn't that bad idea after all. Linda was quite sure she would repeat it again if she didn't meet Tristan or another parselmouth. But aside from his warnings and the way of talking in the beginning, she was happy he didn't hurt her. He was right when was talking about parselmouths. Although Linda knew only her uncle and now Tristan, surely there could be some that could use snake to harm her. And Linda, although would understand that it would happen, probably wouldn't have enough time to retreat to safety or use wand or anything else to defend herself. Probably she had to think about it before she came here, but luckily, Tristan was the one to find her.

Linda looked at him again and smiled. Thank you for your warnings. Next time if I do something like this, I'll try to think about it better.

Tristan laughed jovially at the other’s remarks that the house cup makes it fun here because with that he could definitely agree. He liked the competitive nature of points deep inside after all. The arguments not so much. Tristan smiled widely and joked back, “Well, I guess you should thank me for letting you hear this great parseltongue as you say.” Tristan allowed the snake to crawl out of his arm and onto the ground. He watched it making sure it didn’t attack anyone. He replied to Linda’s apology, “Hmm, if they were Pureblood fanatic probably not. My parents were the first generation to not hate muggles in general.” When Linda asked to pet the snake, Tristan made a gesture showing approval, “Be careful though, don’t startle him, he’s still a wild animal and might bite.” He tilted his head with a gentle smile and replied, “Why, thank you for the complement. I’m sure Saverin appreciates it as well. Snakes are quite intelligent from my experience. And yes I often do enjoy conversing with this creature of mine. He spies very well. I like talking to him of my plans, my emotions, and other things. He’s more my companion than my pet at this point.” Tristan rolled his eyes at this point in a joking and sarcastic manner. He was feeling a little extra today, after all.

Linda smiled at Tristan's words. She wondered for a moment if she would find it as fascinating and great if she could speak it too. Anyways, Linda was happy with even simple understanding. After all it took quite some time for her to learn to understand Parseltongue.

You made me interested. She thought for a moment about how possible or impossible it would be for their older generations to share views on life. Thank you. You know, I almost don't know you, but you seem to be a really great person. You seem to be caring and kind, not the stereotypical Slytherin. She smiled, hoping her words wouldn't be taken as something bad.

I think it's great when you consider Saverin more as companion. They might be animals, but we are responsible for them the moment we are taking them home with us.

As Linda got distracted from chatting with Tristan, she gave her full attention to Saverin. Trying to not startle the creature, she reached out to pet him. The moment of petting the snake reminded her once again about her time with uncle and his snakes.

Look at me getting so comfortable with a snake I see first time. She chuckled. The moment like when I was visiting my uncle, but it's surely different. Shouldn't I be more carefull? She added in a quiet voice.

Are you together with Saverin for a long time already? Linda asked while looking at Tristan again.

Are you a Parselmouth?

Tristan was quite pleased with this encounter as he found himself smiling and joking along with the younger child with him. He often viewed anyone younger than 14 as a child. The reason why was a strange combination of his highly emotionally mature state and the harsh factors of life he had experienced. Tristan was quite fond of children however, because he wanted to provide an opportunity for these children to learn and grow in a way that did not involve the harsh environment he was cultivated in. Death need not be a grand part of this child’s life for her to learn, and he would hope it never would be. There was a glint in his eyes as he reflected upon his life and how his childhood had been quickly lost. He believed that students here at Hogwarts need not lose that childhood, and he would protect that opportunity to be a child for these students with his life. There was nothing about seeing a best friend die, seeing a father figure die that he would ever wish upon children. Perhaps this meant that his character was different from any other Slytherin a person might meet. However, he was ambitious and cunning but for what he believed to be a noble person. The young girl replied, “You made me interested. Thank you. You know, I almost don't know you, but you seem to be a really great person. You seem to be caring and kind, not the stereotypical Slytherin.” He was curious as to what stereotypes the younger girl had experienced of his house herself and also was concerned if any of his housemates had been vindictive at such a young age. He considered the girl in front of him and encouraged her, “Perhaps it is your job then to bridge that gap of stereotype then. A first year Slytherin perhaps, you must befriend, before he is convinced by his elder peers that there are expectations that he must uphold. These are all societal expectations and I break them, perhaps now you can teach others to break them as well.” Tristan paused, allowing her to ponder on these thoughts as well. He then replied carefully “I have had this creature since third year.” Saverin had been a faithful companion since the moment he had chosen him. He had been a great companion through the grief of death indeed. He smiled at the thought.
