Flickering Lights
Ruby gazed down at her book, clearly interested. Her book was a vibrant blue cloth with yellow speckled pages. The Vineyard Expansion It read. It was about a strong guided boy facing the truth of life. It was her favorite.
She had thought she saw a girl smile at her in the hallways. Ruby remembered the girl was a Slytherin. Ruby C... c.... Ruby didn’t know her last name. It was strange that there was another Ruby at Hogwarts, even weirder, she was in Slytherin.
Ruby let out a small groan, for she was now tired of reading. She closed her book and looked around the library.
There was a dark stain on the ground below her, which she hoped wasn’t blood. There were some kids whispering quietly. She was (for some reason) skeptical about the awkward silence around her. It seemed like everyone had a buddy to talk to, except for her of course. But Ruby was okay with that. It was her typical life. The only friend she had really made was Koko, maybe an acquaintance even. Speaking of the devil, she wondered if Koko was okay. Recently, she was stabbed in the leg and almost murdered, but that’s wasn’t relevant right now...
Ruby shrugged and fiddled with her nails. She didn’t have any plans, so what was she to do?

Flickering Lights
~ * ~Ruby strode into the library, moving in the same way she always did – with elegance, smoothly and silently. She kept a straight back at almost all times, and had an air of sharp intelligence, quiet confidence, ambition, determination, power, and passion. These strong things combined produced a feeling about her that most couldn't pick apart, and the fire in her eyes created by this was normally masked by her cold, calculating nature. Her gaze swept over the occupants of the room, observing them and then briefly analyzing what she had seen. After that, she turned to the librarian to return the books that she had read yesterday or the day before. She scanned the shelves and walked along rows, selecting some more, and then looked for a table to sit at.
Most already had multiple people around them, but there were one or two that only had a single person there. She made her way to one of these and neatly positioned her stack of books in front of her and slightly to the right on the table. Ruby glanced up at the person she was sitting with and was surprised to see that they were another Ruby, one that she recognized from classes and the Slytherin common room. She looked away again and selected a book from her pile, flipping it open. There was something that was unusual for her, though – she couldn't remember the other Ruby's last name, and she usually made a point of remembering names in general. It wasn't much of a problem, as she could always find out or ask.
The other Ruby hadn't seemed to be doing anything much. Why wasn't she taking advantage of all the wonderful knowledge displayed in these books? Ruby Cazares loved learning, and had a deep desire for information/knowledge. She wanted to learn all that she could while still having time to do other things and remaining without much stress. It seemed that the Ruby across from her didn't share this feeling, but then again, she could be wrong. Well, that wasn't her problem… She began reading.~ * ~
