Sorting Ceremony

The grand doors felt imposing, it hadn't escaped Theo that as soon as it opened, her life will change. For better or worse, she is yet to decide. She felt conflicted, and confused. Excitement coursed through her, don't get her wrong, but what was her role here? She was so used to keeping an eye out for her brothers that the lack of responsibilites felt foreign.❦ ════════════════════════════════════════════════ ❦

The train ride here was unbearably quieter than home, and now with no one to talk to as they awaited the doors to open, she could feel the urge to yell at her brothers. What for? She doesn't know, she just wants that familiarity back in her life.
With a rush of air, the doors slowly opened and the first years filtered in. To the side was the headmaster, someone Theo recognised from the papers and 'research' her mother forced upon her. He was old, or at least looked that way. She only nodded at his greeting, opting to watch him as he interacted with others as she walked by. She noticed his paleness and distant gaze before moving further into the hall and thinking nothing of it. If she had to work with hundreds of children for days on end, she wouldn't doubt she'd look like that too.
It prickled her skin when the doors closed, the silence falling the hall as everyone watched the Headmaster walk or, as Theo noticed, limp to the front. Yet, as the introductions began and the hat started to sing and her fellow first years were called, Theo's gaze floated away. She watched the chatter and the cheers, a few sneaking some bites or those who couldn't keep their eyes open. She looked at the tables, the question creeping into her mind. Which one? What do I want? Does it matter what I want?
It had occured to her that once you're in a house, you're stuck with it. It didn't occur to her how celebrated and personal everyone was to it. She had thought about it beforehand, conversations with her mum as she tried to pry any and all information from her. It all ended with her being more confused then she started. She didn't know who she was yet, so how could she choose? Let alone a hat, an old and decrepit one at that.
Her name being called jolted her out of her daze and she moved towards the front and sat on the stool, the hat placed on her head.
"Old and Decrepit, you say?" The hat questioned, poking through her thoughts. Theo winced, fingers squeezed together.
"Sorry," was all she could reply. How do you apologise for your personal thoughts?
"Very well. A young mind with plentiful traits for many a house," the hat continued, "but I see only one that would nurture yours impeccably..."
"Hufflepuff!"
Theo smiled at the cheers and hoots when she walked towards the table, feeling as if she was floating there. Hopefully the hat is correct, for if a man like the Headmaster trusted it, why can't she?

Sorting Ceremony
It didn’t went how she planned it. Slytherin? Aelis Tavis, a Slytherin? Impossible. Her family only composes of Ravenclaw. She thought she will be one too, surprise! She’s not. Her whole world just shattered. Everyone told her she will be a Ravenclaw… not a Slytherin. When the sorting hat yelled ”SLYTHERIN!”, she wanted to disappear. She’s one of those trickster. Her mother always told her Slytherin were mean schemers… and she’s not one of them? Right…? She walked to the table where all the students were yelling, some noticed her pale face. She seemed to have seen a ghost… well… she indeed saw a ghost because of the Bloody Baron… but that’s not what we’re talking about. She’s internally screaming “WHAT AM I DOING HERE!?”. She isn’t ambitious. She knows what she will do after her hogwarts studies… being part of the Department for the regulation and control of magical creatures in the dragon research and restraint bureau… that’s not ambitious. Is it? She didn’t know if she wanted to laugh or cry… maybe both at the same time. “Keep it inside” she told herself, she can cry in her dorm, later. Not in front of all those people. She composed herself, back up, shoulders down, the pure blood heir she is supposed to be. Even if half of the plan went to hell.

Sorting Ceremony
When she entered the great hall her jaw dropped in amazement, same with the rest of the first years. She practically leaped into a spot with some kids who looked friendly enough and stayed quiet but listened to their conversation. They were all talking about how exited they were to be sorted. Via personally wanted to be a slytherin, because all her family for generations had been, except for her sister whom years before had been sorted into Hufflepuff. She searched for her sister at the tables eagerly, before finding her waving near the front of one of the tables. I saw her friend laughing, barely able to breath as a Griffindor nearby cracked a joke that had all the people already seated laughing the same. She stayed half asleep during the Sorting Ceremony but then she stopped breathing when she heard the words. “VIA CREEVE” was shouted among the walls of the great hall. She walked with a slight hop to her step to the hat. Once she sat under it, it thought for a moment before saying, SLYTHERIN. She internally cheered but she kept her poker face, adding a slight smirk to it. She walked with pride to the table happily sitting beside a girl that looked absolutely terrified. She thought about it staring at her before realizing she probably was hoping for a different house. She looked smart, but lost somehow. She pushed it off, she would ask later.

“Belonging.” A simple word in English that spoke of goodwill and comfort with one's companions. Fairy tales used the word often, and the word spelt a person's happily ever after. To belong is to be safe, wanted, happy.
Erast Yan did not really understand belonging in concept; at least, not truly. Belonging to him was the family name on his documents, and the clan crest on his jade pendant. On paper and to the human eye, that meant he belonged to the Yan Clan, a prestigious bloodline that rose from nothing to now, given everything. Paper said that Erast was the rightful heir who would inherit and be the centre of all of it. Reality said that he deserved and would have a role in none of it.
That was the confusing part about Hogwarts’ famous Sorting Ceremony. How could something like a hat possibly be able to understand something even humans cannot? How will it know him well enough to assign him a place to belong in? Will his position allow him to do well?
Erast's worries were apparently insignificant, though. Amidst the shuffling crowd of fellow first-year students with bated breath, he clung to a memory from just the night prior for strength.
───────────────────────────
“The sorting will not matter.” Yan Jin-Kai had set down his teacup firmly, russet brown eyes steel against Erast's faltering gunmetal blue. “A Yan is adaptable. You shall thrive and triumph in any environment.” The man's tone had been absolute in its finality, leaving not even an inch for protest. If his heart had not been paralysed by that piercing cold gaze, Erast would've thought that his father was trying to comfort him.
He nodded, “Is there anything I should prepare, Father?”
“No. The hat will take care of it. It will know.”
“Will it? Know me.”
Curiosity splintered practised discipline, reaching out like a fragile sapling towards stormy skies for a brush of sunshine.
“No, don't be foolish.”
Expecting thunder, Erast tensed. Silence. Then, a wisp of warmth shattered the cold, leaving him breathless.
“It will recognise you as my own. That is enough.”
───────────────────────────
“ERAST YAN.”
A blink. Oh, that was his name. Erast lightly smacked his cheeks with his hands. He had to focus! Shuffling up onto the platform where the Headmaster stood, the boy sat gingerly on the stool. It was strange to be presented to such a crowd in this manner. It felt as if all eyes were fixed on him, worming beneath his skin and prying for something he didn’t know. Constellations scratched themselves into his palm, a subconscious effort for familiarity.
The weight of the light, aged fabric plummeted down onto him like a boulder, phantom pressure crushing from the top of his head down deep into the marrow of his bones.
“How unexpected. A Yan boy. Quite far from home, aren’t you? Tsk tsk...”
Anxiety was sudden ice in his veins, its tendrils striking out and draping its chilling slime over his frame. Doubt sank deep. What did the hat mean? Unexpected? He was meant to be here, was he not? He had left home for good reason. The acceptance letter had said so–
“Sensitive one, I see. Shame, shame… Ravenclaw could’ve been good for you, if your heart didn’t outweigh your eye for wisdom.”
The voice slipped in and out of his awareness, all but a murky whisper from underwater. He had to calm down. His father had said it wouldn’t matter, he would thrive no matter what, anywhere–
“Such desperation and thirst for what your mind can barely grasp. Slytherin might be right, with that ambition. Truly your father’s son, aren’t you?”
A seed of warmth burst free at those words. Air flooded his lungs, clarity rushing in. The tiniest smile lifted the corners of his lips, softening his tense frame. “I hope so.” It was a whisper behind his hand, a childish secret to a listener who he would never meet again. The golden anklets were a steady anchor at his unconscious bumping of his heels, their gentle jingling a grounding force that lulled his pounding heart back into normalcy.
The hat perked up on his head. “That heart of yours. Yes, yes, I see now. I know exactly where to put you…”
“HUFFLEPUFF!”
Erast blinked. Oh? His body lifted itself mechanically, dazed by the whiplash pace. What was that... Just as the hat was lifted off his head, he heard the hat speak one last time.
“Guard that heart, boy. Only then, will you truly thrive.”

Sorting Ceremony
The Great Hall was filled with the light of the floating candles. Candles were glowing their light on the ceiling and the tables. First year students were gathered around the staff table a little bit scared. They students were shifting their weight from one foot to another. Whispers could be heard among them.
Ariana Slythers was included in the crowd. Ariana did not seem to be very interested in the process. Some students were quite enthusiastic while others seemed like they would faint due to too much nervousness. Ariana remained standing and looking forward with boredom. The Sorting Ceremony meant nothing to her. She already knew which house she belonged to.
Everyone in the Slythers family belonged to Slytherin. Ariana's parents, grandparents and even great-grandparents were Slytherins. Thus, the Sorting Hat was a mere procedure.
"Ariana Slythers"
Ariana went to the stool. She sat down. Then the Sorting Hat was put on her head. It immediately pronounced "SLYTHERIN". Some students even started laughing due to how quickly the hat announced this result.
Then the hat gave a warning "Let your pride and determination not rule your life, you will do great things but seek knowledge instead of glory."
Ariana scoffed lightly even if the words had touched her stone cold heart. Students from the Slytherin table clapped. Some older students smiled like they knew about the result for sure. Ariana took off the hat. She went to the Slytherin table.
The cheering continued as she sat among her peers.
It was all over. The ceremony was everything that Ariana had expected.
As others talked around her, and the sorting process continued Ariana allowed herself a smile, on her face. She could get her work done here.
She was neither excited nor nervous.
She was neither ecstatic nor happy.
She was confident.
This castle was going to become home to the Slythers girl.
She was going to excel here.
That was certain.
Ariana Slythers was going to succeed at Hogwarts.
The castle was going to become her home.
Ariana Slythers was ready.

—date. [ 09/01/25 ]——————word count. [ 999 ]——————tag. [ @none ]— After a long day of new experiences, waiting around, and the upcoming presence of the unknown, a mysterious, and seemingly an incredulously slow-upcoming event approached – the sorting ceremony. Malakai had heard talk about it on the train. Whispers seemed to travel easily between wizard students just as they did between muggles. What he’d learned over his extraordinarily executed detective investigation on the train was that there were four Hogwarts houses, he wasn’t sure what their names or virtues were, but he’d caught word that each of them symbolised a core trait of an individual. However it was going to unfold, he’d leave it up to the moment, but he guessed it was going to be something trivial; not many schools would make new students duel a dragon, or whatever they do in fantasy books, right? Even if he wouldn’t mind testing his chances against a dragon, he’d attempt that when he learned at least some spells. What he hadn’t anticipated was rowing through a lake in the dull evening lightning. He walked into the Great Hall where the sorting was supposed to take place, with the cuffs of his pants wet, as well as his shoes and socks drenched in water. He didn’t mind, but the stares from other kids that he’d received started to annoy him at a certain point. It appears he’d missed the coast and accidentally stepped in water when exiting the boat. That, after also almost being late to the Hogwarts Express, and while attempting spells in his train compartment, encountering a close call with a miniature fire. Needless to say it was an eventful day, but he’d at least prefer running and hurrying over standing in some dully lit hall in an ancient old castle, doing nothing. It was so boring waiting for the ceremony to start. When was it beginning? On one side the school was grand and beautiful, it seemed like it had many great places and corners to explore, and on the other, it seemed like the time in it had slowed, and the atmosphere of the castle was draped in a veil of ancient shadows. Whatever his impressions have been of the school so far, he would not be prepared for what he saw when entering the Great Hall. The ceiling stretched high and wide, it illustrated the sunset-colored sky that the boy had seen outside before entering through the gates. And, wow, was it like nothing he’d seen before. His head tilted back gaping at the ceiling like an idiot. But it was okay, other first year students seemed to have a similar reaction. His eyes didn’t miss the aflame candles that hung seemingly on nothing far up in the ceiling. Was it some see-through strings or magic?... the boy wondered. Everything in his world now shifted to a question of either or. The room felt more like attending a magic show of trickery, where the objective was to identify what was within the laws of physics and what was wizardry. His brain unconsciously tried to figure out and rationalise the seemingly impossible phenomena that surrounded him. Anyways, he’d have time for that later. Now, back to the sorting ceremony. At the end of the hall another unexpected surprise awaited him. As he stood towards the back of the first year row, he heard a squeaky and unpleasant voice. It reminded him of how evil witches had been depicted in stories he’d been told as a child, and he thought he was for sure done. Everything up until this point seemed cool and chill, but the moment his ear drums were pierced by the voice, he’d thought he’d get hexed and eaten for a cookie. With great effort he rose on his tippy toes and his eyes widened he realised the person, or rather the thing, the voice was coming from was a… hat? It looked old and scrappy, like it’d been through hell. Why would a seemingly prestigious school display such a hideous thing? But it was pointless asking questions, as even more would arise in his mind when the hat started singing. A song about Hogwarts. Sure, just burst into a song, like it’s completely normal, he thought. After an excruciating couple of minutes it stopped and students started being called to get sorted. In his mind, Malakai felt proud to have heard of the houses prior to the ceremony. Now, here came his turn. As soon as he heard the person who’d been calling students up, struggling with a last name, he knew it was his time. Finally, when the surname was put out there, he ran up the little stairs that led up to a low platform at the head of the Great Hall. His footsteps carried an unmatched energy. A chair, he was supposed to sit in, with the hat, he was supposed to put on, on top of it. He sat in the chair, and offered a smile to all who’d been watching him, that of a clueless student, that wasn’t exactly caught onto what was going on. Why’d you do that? immediately, he scolded himself and tilted his head down to make the sorting hat fall over his eyes. “HUFFLEPUFF!” the hat yelled out, after a brief, brief moment of silence. If he wasn’t mistaken it was the table draped in yellow and black, that started cheering loudly when the proclamation was made. Did the old hat’s words mean anything to him? No. He didn’t yet know what the significance of the houses was in Hogwarts. And, oh god, he certainly needed to educate himself on its history. But the applause and handshakes he was met with when he approached the table made him feel welcome. His expression that was just a moment ago laced with embarrassment, lit up again. His lips turned up into a crooked smirk as nodded and thanked all the older years who’d greeted him. It made him feel so special. ───── [ notes ] ... ( codes by uly. )— | ———— |

Sorting Ceremony
[OOC: Hello everyone! This is my first roleplay post. I'm so excited to join Gryffindor!
]
Bartholomew had stepped into the Great Hall from the massive doors, huge enough for Mammoths to enter if they were not extinct, and his brown eyes widened in excitement due to the magnificence of that place. Uncounted floating candles were brightening the ceiling of Great halls, and the chaos of hundreds of students, sitting on all of the four tables was like a storm in itself as there were senior students sitting as well who were excited to see incoming students in their house. It isn't like that Bartholomew doesn't have friends but he always had his friends in the muggle world, but in the wizard world he had only one friend which was music, and due to the habit of peace which he was used to find while playing melody in his own small and cozy room in his house, this chaos was so overwhelming for him. He slightly lowered his head, by which his messy hair fell on his face which hid his eyes. He lost again in his thoughts and started to remember all of the Hogwarts stories which he had heard from his parents when they both were student at Hogwarts.
Although Bartholomew was calmly brainstorming the stories, living portraits on the wall of the Great Hall caught his attention towards themselves. Suddenly an echoing sound of Headmaster Solomon Lear came, which made the entire hall dead quiet. Headmaster was wearing a strong armour and his personality was looking like one of the strictest headmaster of Hogwarts, but in reality he was the softest person, Bartholomew had ever met, and he tried to be friendly by cracking a lot of Dad jokes, which unfortunately never landed. One by one Prof. Nora was calling the names of all the first years. He entered with the main character syndrome in Hogwarts, he thought he was the one who called first but after waiting for an eternity, when he heard, "Bartholomew Lindenmomo!", he started to feel nervous forgetting about all the main character syndrome. He took a deep breath and came out of the crowd. He had chosen a house in his mind already but he was not sure if sorting hat will give him the same house or not.
He slowly went towards the small stool with excitement and nervousness at the same time and sat on it. As soon as the sorting hat was placed on his head, darkness fell in front of his eyes due to the anxiety. A weird voice echoed in his brain.
"Hmm... very interesting brain," Hat whispered. "A sensitive and innocent heart, who can feel the pain of others. But here is a quiet bravery too... courage of taking risk for his friends. Behind your peaceful nature a brave lion is hiding."
After a short silence, Hat announced loudly in the Great Hall,
"GRYFFINDOR!"
A smile of relief came on the face of Bartholomew, because 'Gryffindor' was the house which he had already chosen in his mind, as his parents were also 'Gryffindors'. He removed the hat and went towards the table where students, sitting in robes of black colour from outside while scarlet red & golden from inside, cheering for him. By sitting between his new friends and loud cheers, he felt ready officially for his upcoming magical journey.

Sorting Ceremony
The Great Hall was intimidating. Maybe more intimidating than the exterior of the castle, Lorelei thought to herself. This was, of course, because of the sheer number of people occupying the space. Her primary school in Bathampton hadn't held more than 200 pupils and, while she wasn't going to count them, there had to be at least a thousand in this room.
Lorelei walked with the other first years into the room, trying to keep her head down to avoid ogling the students. She ensured she had a suitable place in the single file line that was beginning to form, not wanting to stand between two friends and cause unnecessary inconvenience. She folded her hands in front of her, turning her attention to the display in front of the students.
The ceremony began with a speech from the headmaster, which she tried quite desperately to focus on, but her physical mannerisms betrayed her as she shifted her weight back and forth, bouncing one leg anxiously. In her head, she ran through questions she was sure the sorting hat would ask, and carefully formulated her responses back. Once she had rehearsed the whole conversation about a hundred times, the sorting hat had begun it's song. She listened in for a few bars, but upon finding the information to be things her father had told her time and time again, her attention once again began to drift.
Without making it obvious that she was staring, Lorelei looked to her left and right and examined the children standing beside her. To her left was a young girl with bright eyes and large-framed glasses. Her hair was long and softly styled, hanging down her back. Lorelei placed an internal bet, Hufflepuff, as she saw a deep kindness in the girl. To her right was a boy with a sharp jawline and tussled brown hair. He focused on the hat with a piercing forward gaze. Gryffindor, surely, Lorelei surmised.
Turning her attention forward once more Lorelei was delighted to find that the calling of names had begun. Adrenaline began to fill her body, settling itself in her extremities. She shook out her hands, and went deep inside her head to determine if the butterflies in her stomach were stress or excitement. Finally, finally, once they had reached the students at the very end of the alphabet, she heard her name called.
"Witte, Lorelei"
She walked forward, willing herself not to trip as she moved to the raised platform. Upon putting the hat on her head and sitting down on the stool, she heard the voice whisper.
"Now, now, what to do with you," echoed through her subconscious, and brought out the entire anxiety-driven speech she had prepared. Well, I think I should be a Ravenclaw, not because I'm really that smart but because it's kinda the only place I fit, I'm not brave at all, even sitting in a train compartment with other students was too scary for me. I haven't really had enough friends to get much practice with loyalty, and I may be competitive but I'm certainly not ambitious. I get good marks in school, though, so I think Ravenclaw is the place for me. She let out a mental sigh of relief after this, and heard the hat give a little chuckle.
"Faulty reasoning, perhaps, but I can see the partial truth in what you say. I want you to focus, though, not on where you don't fit, but rather where you do. You will find your people here, Lorelei, I can promise you this, and I believe they belong, like you, in...
RAVENCLAW!"

Sorting Ceremony
And finally, Evangeline's time had come. Her time to explore all of the Wizarding World in its truest, purest form. Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardly. The choose that has chosen her, to guide her, teach her, and make of her another great witch. Evangeline had been waiting for this moment ever since she had known of the school. Ever since her mother and father shared their Hogwarts experiences, their memorable moments at this unique school. Evangeline had always been unique too, one of a kind her father always used to say. And now her time had come, to show how unique she was. To learn and show what a great witch was hiding deep within her.
As she entered the Great Hall, together with all the other first years, she was amazing by the sight. Tables filled with second to seventh years, of each house a bunch of students, excited for the new year to begin, and in this moment even more excited for the famous sorting ceremony to take place. Which showed the new first year students in which houses they belonged. What house would be their home for the next 7 years, what students would be like their family, to guide them, so one day they too could guide the first years through their houses, through this school, through the world of magic.
As she looked up at the sealing, all she saw was a dark blue sky filled with stars. With candles flying right above her head. She had never seen something so beautiful, it mesmerised her. As she continues her walk up to the front. Each first year, gets called to the front, to get them sorted into their fitting house. Evangeline had always wondered what house the sorting hat would have picked for her. Her mother had, despite her Hufflepuff characteristics, been sorted into Gryffindor, where she met her father who was sorted into Ravenclaw, probably because he was so smart and knowing. Evangeline had always admired him.
Evangeline gets snapped out of her thoughts when she suddenly hears, "Fleetwood Evangeline". She looks up and sees the teacher, looking at her. She moves over towards the stand, takes a seat as the sorting had is being carefully placed upon her head.
"Aah another Fleetwood it seems!" The hat says. Evangeline looks up in amazement. She had never heard the hat speak!
"Oh i remember your parents very well, your father, so smart and keen to learn everything there was about the magical world. And your mother, oh dear, such a Hufflepuff potential, but also so brave, poor thing. One day you shall see just how brave your mother is. Now back to you!
I dont even have to consider this one... HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat said and before i knew it, the hat was removed from my head and the entirety of Huffelpuff was clapping and yelling, happy with another student joining their house.
Evangeline walked over to her house table, a bit confused about what the hat had told her, but still very happy with its outcome. She was beyond excited to learn everything about this world, and definitely everything about her plants. And to meet new friends, and start this adventure with them, hopefully filled with many, happy memories.
Sorting Ceremony

They waited 11 Septembers for those cheers. 11 Septembers for the famed Great Hall, for the generations of wixes in that very room, for the school that bore witchcraft decades past their short lifespan. It was too late, when they realized; they were plummeting deeper within a sea of vast, dangerous magic, and moths don't last long underwater.
They sink to the stone floor, curling into their knees as though they gave consolation, and they would; their calves burned for standing hours in that candlelit room, yet Lourine would still wait twice the time to avoid having sorted.
As once they were; they were a wix forever, they were a House forever.
Their eyes crack open to see a wall of plain robes and worn shoes, some undoubtably muggle, and others not. The commotion grew numb from this far down, and there was a mundane comfort in it. Here was no Sorting Hat, no Houses, no talking portraits; only a shield from the magical school and the snug warmth of a hundred others. They could settle where it all fell away.
❝ 𝕷𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖊 𝕳𝖔𝖆𝖝 ❞
But not for long.
Lourine hoped they were absent from the endless scroll in Lear's hand, and by then they convinced themself it could even be true. Yet, this name was unfortunately, unmistakably theirs, and they had half a mind to stand to it. There was no kindness in stalling any further when there were a hundred first years waiting their turn.
❝ Pardon, ❞ Their voice carried so quiet as they step between the others, weaving through the swarm as gently as they could— like they would break in two, otherwise. For once, that day, they hadn't heard the buzz of the ceremony over rushing blood in their ears.
They climb the few steps on stage, peering up at the armored headmaster; Solomon Lear— they remembered, there was an undeclared distance in his eyes that Lour could not help but borrow as they claimed their seat.
The hat sinks into their skull, and it gags. ❝ You're bitter, my sorting ails you more than anyone thus far. Should I take offense? ❞
❝ No, ❞ They wondered if it truly would, the Hat's ever-long duty was to sort, after all. ❝ I understand it's only your job. ❞
❝ It's only my life. ❞ It reminded, though it can't help but move on.
❝ and I remember your Eryth. ❞ Just as Mama told them it would. ❝ I sorted her just as I will you; with one House. ❞
They knew it prior, the both of them, yet confirmation barely tames their stubbornness— only hastens their grief. Their eyes sting. ❝ Then I will lose three others. ❞
The Hat considers this, but offers no alternative.
❝ My task is to give you one House to belong in. You are fortunate enough to thrive in any, and it makes this decision no simpler for me. ❞
An unexpected reassurance as it curls its fabric claws around their heart, then a sudden laugh.
❝ Is that guilt you feel? Relax, child, I've sorted for decades, and you are a welcome appeal. That warm heart of yours, it belongs with 𝕳𝖚𝖋𝖋𝖑𝖊𝖕𝖚𝖋𝖋. ❞
Lour saw it. It was the sketches of Kathana's notebooks and the ochre fabric in her sewing machine. It was switching rooms with Eleanor and giving Lia the top bunk. It was knowing the instruments Rosaline played. It was getting out of bed for a phone call, and telling the receptionist. It was leaving the 2nd floor for Kathana, and leaving the 1st for Lianor. It was an undeniable loyalty.
But it wasn't all, the Hat doesn't stop there.
It was taking the Cardiff bus lit only by streetlights, and the blood in the sink at the convenience store. It was saving ant hills from their brother and meeting Asier. It was watching Dillenia skate the day he died, and packing for Hogwarts while their hands still shook.
❝ That resolve, it's 𝕲𝖗𝖞𝖋𝖋𝖎𝖓𝖉𝖔𝖗. You've had courage a long time, no wonder you broke on the way here. ❞
It was counting Pokémon cards and reading textbooks as bedtime stories. It was knowing their Mom's favorite cologne when she hadn't even known herself. It was reciting the names of spells in the mirror. It was science homework on the way to school and studying ice skaters on the television. It was treating Lia's scraped knees, and it was the indigo hair.
❝ The sharp mind of a 𝕽𝖆𝖛𝖊𝖓𝖈𝖑𝖆𝖜, you've been preparing all your life for this, it would be a shame to waste it now. ❞
It was keeping secrets and switching pen cartridges. It was the hoarding. It was searching how Philip could choose the House he adored, and refusing to choose their own. It was getting up at seven on four hours of sleep. It was the jellyfish, the hare, the beetle, the tiger, and the moth. It was the mimicry. It was questioning magic and it was keeping the scar.
It was the affection for the living, and grieving long before the end. It was the war between drowning and burning alive. It was chasing even when it would kill you.
❝ You have a terrible spark, ❞ The Hat contemplates. ❝ a desire to sacrifice much of your soul; it drives you in unnatural ways— but be cautious. Snake or moth, neither burn gently, and now I know you carry the fresh cravings of both. ❞
It decides, its voice intrepid. ❝ The honor you chase, ❞
❝ it's of 𝕾𝖑𝖞𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖎𝖓. ❞
The crowd cheers, tireless after all these hours. The Hat continues past its tide.
❝ Trust this House will learn well of you, 𝕷𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖊. ❞
