Taking steps far away seemed to have been the right choice, as a slurry of potion effects began to emit across the field after the first initial draught had been used. Without hesitation, between the looks of Colin and Pax, it was clear what their next step was to do. The muffling draught had extremely high potential, as it pushed opponents into a corner of feeling helpless as they were unable to cast. However, both teams had potions and it was clear that if you can't fight with spells then use whatever items you have left. If David hadn't been knocked by Colin so hard, then Pax and Colin would have been most likely been in the worst situation. It seems luck was on their side, but it also seemed their luck was beginning to run out; if anything, all their luck was used on that single flipendo.
Colin swiftly grabbed his team's muffling draught, and as he prepared to throw it, Avery pursed his lips and placed his fingers around the tiny opening on his mouth to shoot a large ball of fire at Colin. A direct hit, and Hunter finally gave a welcoming smirk/smile at Avery's performance. The flame covered Colin's entire body, there was no chance he wasn't going to be aflame from the looks of it. The initial hit seemed painful, but the fires that stuck like napalm on the boy seemed even worse as their size certainly outweighed that of the previous incendio cast during this duel. The unfortunate part though, was with that last blast (with now a bit of speculation, seemed more like a belch or burp), Avery's skin began to swiftly diminish to its original color. Still sweating profusely, but he seemed to be back to normal from the looks of it. Hunter sighed at this, as the worst part of the Fire-Breathing potion is when you continuously land hits of its attacks causing more and more flames to grow and appear.
In a similar fashion to what happened to David, upon being hit by the flame Colin swiftly threw the muffling draught perhaps more on instinct than thought. It landed a bit short, and the 2nd large puff of smoke to erupt on the field barely reached the noses of David and Avery. Still though, based on the lack of sound of heavy breathing it seemed both teams were under the effects of being mute. Hunter commended Colin's actions as the boy used them in a very effective defensive way. Now the question was how long were both teams going to go silent.
Hunter covered his eyes slightly, as a large burst of bright flame shot at Avery barely scathing the boy The room was so quiet, and the fire launched by Pax Zhang was no exception. The muffling draught muted voices and sound but did not suffocate its targets limiting them from breathing. It caught Hunter off guard and probably did too for some others in the room. Avery displayed the potion and let out horrific large screeching or roaring sounds, but Pax was silent. It was chilling and disturbing to witness such a powerful attack be quieter than a mouse. Hunter cursed a bit under his breath, upset at himself for forgetting the other duelist untouched in the room. Pax was now the center of attention as a burst of fire had unfortunately missed David as he finally lifted himself back up. Pax's red hot face with bits of sweat dripping down showed this potion was certainly no joke and both their display and Avery's show it was hard to control. Perhaps the potion caused immense tears to form around the eyes, further making it difficult to see and aim. Hunter was too far away to be able to tell, but he considered it to be a possibility. Hunter began jotting in his notebook, taking note of details that this duel certainly showed. A part of him was debating on whether he should make such a potion even stronger for next time. Or in fact... could the potion be even worse if it was just splashed against someone's skin instead of drunk? It's well known (for him, perhaps not for his fellow second years who haven't learned it yet) that such a potion is capable of burning off skin if it comes into direct contact with people... a debate for another time. Who would Hunter pour such a potion on too?

It took me a few moments to recover, but once I did, I noticed a massive fire coming my way from Pax’s direction and while I quickly ducked out of the way, a part of the fire still managed to latch onto my hand. I quickly put the fire out by shaking my hand in the air really fast and I now had a minor burn that stung a bit. It wasn’t that bad really and I going to cast a Flipendo at Colin to get my revenge, but then I felt myself breathing in a bit of smoke. It was just a teeny bit, but when I looked up, I noticed a whole cloud of it dissolving into the air in front of me. Dang, it, I was mute. As the smoke dissolved, I noticed that Colin was on fire again, except this time, his whole body was engulfed in the flames. I could only imagine the kind of pain he was going through in the moment, and honestly, I felt sorry for the poor boy.
I looked over at Avery and nodded, giving him an encouraging smile. The boy had either gotten Colin aflame this round or the last one, but that didn’t matter, at least Colin was at a disadvantage. I was expecting another wave of fire to come from Pax soon and since my hand was a bit injured, I thought about using the Murtlap Essence. I mean, sure, the burning hand was only a minor inconvenience, but then again, it wasn’t as if I could cast a spell at the moment anyways and if I got rid of the flame now, then perhaps I’d have a better chance of actually making it into my target, whoever that would be. I put my wand into my robes before turning towards Avery and raising left hand. I then used my right index finger to point at my hand before pointing at the Murtlap Essence. And then, I just had to hope that he would let me use it.

A Brawl is Brewing

After one final roar, the flames that came out of his maw flickered and died. How disappointing. He was just getting used to the sheer power that he had held, and now it was gone. A loud burp erupted from his throat instead, and with a puff of smoke, his amazing powers were no more. However, he was thrilled to see that he had finally set an opponent on fire, after missing helplessly for two rounds. "Ha! Take tha-!"
Something smashed at their feet, and plumes of purple smoke enshrouded David and him. He coughed into his sleeve this time (knowing he wouldn't set it on fire this time), but not a single sound came from his throat. How strange that felt! He tried speaking about it to David, but no words could be said. Frustrated, Avery flapped his arms helplessly as he yelled silently. Wow, did he hate being muted! It was suffocating -- it was the worst feeling in the world! He had so many emotions, but how could he express them if he couldn't make a single noise?? How could anyone even listen to what he wanted to convey? He mouthed the following words in a mini-tantrum, waving his arms and pouting: "OH MY GOD! What the heck is this! I mean, it's cool, but it's so crazy. You guys have no idea what I'm even saying and even though I want to scream, I just look like a crazy person. AAHHH!" He grabbed his wand and silently yelled an incantation, but nothing came out of the end of his wand.
He looked over to see David miming something, and immediately understood. He waved a hand to David to say, 'go ahead!' Avery was feeling fine physically, anyhow, even though he was screaming inside at his helplessness.
Action: As strategized.

They/SheWith the potion in hand, Pax had never felt more powerful. They could now sympathise more with Avery's uncontrollable flame columns-from holding the bottle alone they felt incredibly strong.
Flicking off the lid, they downed the potion in one.
And boy, was it hot! Pax had not been ready for that sort of heat to scorch the back of their throat as they wiped the quickly accumulating sweat from their face, certain it was shifting to an uncomfortable hue of purple-red. They clasped both hands over their mouth, dropping the vial in the process (Sorry Hunter!) as they tried to restrain the fire. A cough was rapidly building up in the back of their throat, and, unable to control it, they quickly removed their hands and let the fire erupt in the direction of David in a swift coughing motion, missing wildly through the badly aimed blast.
But, of course, there was no coughing sound. In fact, the whole hall was silent (Pax internally cheered at Colin's and their own's ability to read each other's minds). They turned to said boy, only to see fires erupting from him as Avery's own flames died down. They wanted to yell out, but the flames would then sear towards him, and he did not need any more burns right now.
Hand back and clasped over their mouth to prevent any unwarranted flames, they turned back to their opponents, flames now almost literally in their eyes.Reducio

Colin smirked as he watched Dave deal with Pax's dragon fire! It wasn't a snakey kind of smirk, but more of an I actually did that smirk. Colin was rather proud of the fact that he'd cast a perfect flipendo on Dave and knocked him back right off his feet! He was also proud of Pax and himself --- they were both fighting well, and so far neither of them was dead!
He turned to watch his demisister as she coughed out a gout of flame onto Dave. He winced visibly as Dave evaded the worst of it. He wanted to yell That sucks, Paxo! Get em next time! But he knew nothing but an airy hiss would escape his throat for a while yet. Even so, it was cool to see David's hand on fire!
Colin turned to make his own move and that's when he happened to get a good look at Avery. His housemate's mouth was open wide, just like a dragon's, and deep inside, he could see the brilliant white heat of hellfire stirring, the flames roaring and the magical fires consuming themselves! Avery was the very maw of a great blast furnace, hot enough to melt steel and break diamonds, powerful enough to liquefy the stones of the castle and make them flow like water!
And with one last roar, Avery sent that fire straight over towards Colin! Colin knew in that instant what was coming his way, and he tossed the vial of muffling potion towards his and Pax's opponents. In that moment he didn't care if he hit them or not, though judging by the sudden silencing of Avery's final taunt and Dave's silence, they'd both breathed in the purple vapour.
There was no way to dodge Avery's fire.
He left his arms outstretched.
Colin felt like he'd fallen into the Sun, and he embraced her scorching fires! Every inch of his body erupted in an unimaginably fierce pain. It knocked the breath out of him it was so strong! But Colin had felt this pain before. Several times! He straightened up and stretched his arms out to their widest; he closed his eyes and arched his back, feeling the magical fires lick at his skin. He felt like the Balrog, a being of living flame, consumed by fire and consuming.
It was difficult, but even this pain was tolerable! He'd been hit with incendio before --- he even cast a backfired charm onto himself once! Colin knew fire and knew what it felt like. There was but one way to overcome this kind of pain!
From his arched back stance, he threw his stance forward, towards Avery! His hands were opened wide and his arms stretched wide towards his friend. His eyes were narrowed and his deep breath was let out in a long, deep from the belly roar!! If only Colin's voice weren't muffled! It was a good wolfy roaring growl, and Colin wished that he, like Prometheus, could share some of his fire with Avery!
He shook his entire body he roared and the flames danced around him. Colin knew he was hurting badly, but the boy was pumped! His adrenaline was flooding his entire body. Regardless of the damage Avery's dragon fire was doing to him, at least Colin would feel wonderful about it!

Action: Colin embraces his inner Balrog.

Hunter took out his pocketwatch, taking note of the small fraction of seconds passing by. Based upon his knowledge of muffling draught, the potion should be wearing off soon. How soon he wasn't completely sure, which is why he was keeping track of the time. Each second mattered and he had to make sure they were recorded for future improvements. Of course, though, his gaze would revert and focus on the field. First there was Avery, using hand signals and odd mouthing to communicate with his teammate. Hunter could feel an almost slight headache be alleviated from his mind, and found the quiet nature of Avery no longer speaking being rather pleasant. It was rather odd though, to witness the boy stand there and try desperately to make a word come out of his mouth. There was little to no hope, the potion was like a poison and would have to run its course before another spell was capable of being cast.
Then there was David, it seems he got some sort of message across to Avery and the two understood each other well. Retrieving their last potion, it was the only support-focused item Hunter had provided. Murtlap Essence, a slight blue to lavender color depending on the lighting of the room made mostly from the tentacles of murtlaps. Hunter recalled often of having to eat such items when studying with his grandmother, and how purple fur eventually developed in his ears. A rather unpleasant experience, but he got used to it to where people could (rarely) find him casually snacking on them like gummy worms. He was used to the smell, but he was unsure of how the others would react. Splashing and lathering the concoction on his body, Hunter could tell from David's pain-filled expression becoming less rigid that the potion was working rather quickly. It didn't heal open wounds instantaneously, but it would help the process over time and act more as a soothing agent or painkiller. Being able to soothe one's own suffering is just as effective as any healing ability as it provided the energy to keep pushing forward. However the potion had drawbacks. The main one was the fact that the murtlap tentacles were pickled and the potion most likely was fermenting for weeks or even months. The smell could be described as sour and disgusting to many, and possibly even distracting. It seems the smell had made David gag a bit and incapable of focusing on dodging the oncoming fire attack from Pax Zhang.
Again, the quiet belch of flames from Pax was highly unusual to witness and rather scary too. To add to the surprise, it seems Pax was beginning to gain quick control over the flames, unlike Avery, having prevented almost hitting their own teammate out of panic for Colin and landing a shot on their second try. The flames seemed more abrupt and powerful, and Hunter could only assume the strength of the potion depended on the drinker rather than just the brewer. Pax's flames were probably the largest out of everyone's with the highest of heat that even Hunter was beginning to sweat a little among the crowd. Pax was the only offensive unit at the current moment, and they were certainly proving how much of an error it was to have ignored them for so long. The issue though, was how much longer could their teammate Colin go on for?
Colin had the same idea as David, to take the time he had to heal himself with his own team's Murtlap essence. He pulled through the flames burning at his skin and grabbed the bottle. Hunter was unsure if Colin hoped the potion would extinguish the flames, but he himself was also unsure. As Colin began to douse himself and rub the smelly potion along his body, the flames continued to roar. It seemed like the potion wasn't enough to erase the ongoing fire eating away at Colin. At best it most likely soothed the pain very slightly, and any epidermal cells regenerating were beginning to become charred.
Hunter stretched, a bit annoyed by the fact the duel is a 2v2 but mostly just been targeting two people. He didn't mind it, as it was strategic and such, but it was clear that David and Colin (both on fire) were possibly not going to survive much longer. All of Hunter's potions had been used, he of course had some more back in the Ravenclaw common room but he wasn't planning on lending anything more. This was a test, a test of the strength of his potions and a display of who he was. Soon though, this duel was going to be just ordinary in nature. As such, he began to write in his journal a bit more thoughts and ideas on how to heal burns dealt with by magical flames. To perhaps even speed things up a bit, he yelled a bit of advice to all of them with the muffling draught: "I suggest very deep breaths. Exhale before inhale!" Although, he was unsure of how many could focus on him due to two being on fire and another breathing it.

He did. Or so I thought anyways based on his hand gesture and so I turned around before going up towards the table containing the single potion left on our side: the Murtlap Essence. I took it out and poured it the burnt side of my left hand and as I put the empty bottle away, I was already beginning to feel it’s healing properties as my palm stopped hurting and began to heal. Just then, I was hit with a burst of flames that engulfed my whole body and that’s when I realized that Pax could still breathe fire. Well this was even worse then the pain I revived from my hand when it was slightly burned, and certainly more pain then I had received during my first duel last year when I was only hit by some flames for a few seconds before they went out and as much as I wanted to stop drop and roll, that probably wasn’t the best thing to do in this situation. I turned around and pulled out my wand before pointing it at Colin and waving it in a check mark with a hook on it’s end whilst saying “FLIPENDO!” Now, I just had to hope that the spell would hit it’s target. It didn’t.Dave - cd0a2f

A Brawl is Brewing

Colin had poured the murtlap all over himself, slathering the healing potion all over himself --- well, all over everywhere he could reach without throwing off his thankfully fireproof kilt and duelling naked like an ancient Celt! His eyebrows raised in pleasant surprise and his eyes lit up. He sniffed at the bottle. He sniffed at his shoulders and arm pits and his hands. Colin made a funny little grin with the tip of his tongue sticking out between his teeth.
Colin felt an almost irresistible urge to roll around on his back like a dog who's found a strong smelling patch of weeds by the trackside. He whuffed and sniffed at himself and he wondered what Dave was thinking about the curious aroma of the murtlap potion. Colin found that he now smelled like the punkiest and strongest pickle sandwich with sauerkraut and kimchi that the Hogwarts Elves could concoct! And he didn't mind at all!
Colin didn't especially like the smell, and decided that he'd not regularly bathe in murtlap, but he had to admit that Argentum's concoction actually smelled rather interesting. It was a curious and complex scent and Colin wondered at the taste. There were a couple drops left in the bottle and he wet his lips and tongue with the dregs.
"Mmm!? Whoa! Tangy!" Colin almost dropped the bottle in surprise. The stuff tasted very strongly of pickling. Not delicious, but --- interesting! And he got his voice back!
"WOOOO!!!" Colin shook his fiery mane eagerly and got out his wand. His adrenaline still coursed through his and he gave Pax a grin and a wink! He struck his best duelling posture and aimed his wand.

Action: Colin's inner canine enjoys some extra strong murtlap.

They/SheThe flames were building rapidly fast by now, and it didn't take long for Pax to have to breathe out in a fiery column, directed straight towards David. The fire engulfed him quickly and Pax cheered with triumphant smile. Besides, it seemed he'd just taken the last potion, a healing potion of sorts, so he'd be fine.
However, the heat in their throat was growing stronger by the second, making them feel less fine if anything. Pax had to force down the coughs from the hints of ash and smoke because the second the attempted to force anything out, a bulge of flames would also follow. And they didn't want to waste any of the powerful flames.
The odd silence that had enveloped the room slowly began to ebb, as Pax could almost hear the echoes of furious flames and dragon-like roars from within them. They inched a little closer to Colin, careful not to face him properly to avoid searing him in the process, plus the poor boy was still burning despite the potion he'd used in an attempt to soothe the burns presumably.
They focused their attention back to Avery and David, the latter looking definitely weakened but the former looking almost as fine as when they began. The fight was going to be harsh, no matter what.Reducio

A Brawl is Brewing

As his flames engulfed Colin, he almost felt guilty for sending that powerful blast in his friend’s direction. Would those flames be very hot? They did seem a lot brighter than the Incendios that they had learned to cast. And Avery didn’t even know what an Incendio felt like, since – fortunately -- no one had ever sent that spell his way before.
However hot it was, Colin took it like a champ! He even thrust out his arms with a giant snarl and an open maw that seemed as silently powerful as Avery’s deadly flames. There was certainly something animalistic about Colin that Avery could not grasp – the way he moved, and the way he howled with excitement; the way he seemed willing to take the world head-on, shaking off any mishap and bouncing right back. In his useless and unhelpful silence, Avery silently roared right back to echo a response, though it wasn’t even half as fierce as Colin’s beastly roar. Maybe Colin could teach him how to do it better.
As both teams uncorked the Murtlap Essence, a foul smell permeated the room, but David and Colin seemed to rub it on themselves nonetheless. Avery wrinkled his nose in David’s direction. Boy was it disgusting!
"I suggest very deep breaths. Exhale before inhale!" Hunter’s suggestion came at a very inopportune time. Avery held a hand to his nose and groaned – a noise that was now audible after the effects of the Muffling Draught had wore off. “Yuck! Not the right time, Hunter!” he said behind his hand, no longer muted (unfortunately, for Hunter). “Do you want us to die from the stench instead?” He could gag right now. News for The Headliner: Hunter Argentum single-handedly takes out four duelists with his essence.
Did Colin just EAT the Murtlap thing? It was – what – ‘tangy’? “Well, does it taste yummy?” he asked his friend, curious to learn more without putting it in his own mouth.
Action: As strategized.
