Wix @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood was still on a roll when it came to obtaining the freedom of the animals all around her. A fulfilment of her true purpose, her one goal in life that was hers and hers alone, this was what it meant to be free. And the Diricawl had to be one of them as well.

Such a sweet little dodo-looking bird watched her with curiously soft eyes as she very quickly did away with the restraining lock [Wisdom Check 23] and released the critter into the wild and free world. After slowly glancing around for a few second and then scratching the ground underfoot, it looked back at its pale savior and then without warning suddenly vanished from sight without a sound. It was said that these magical creatures had the ability to essentially Apperate... it seemed like that was not a bluff, not in the slightest.

Yet, something more was tugging at her, the low voice of the King beckoning her towards the most majestic creature housed here of all; the shimmering silver unicorn and a golden colt nearby, both too ethereal to appear real. With lazy tosses of its moon-blessed mane, the unicorn nickered to itself as it rubbed its nose lightly to scratch itself on a nearby tree. The foal flicked its sun-blessed tail in a way that made it look like molten gold, and then 'chortled' before kicking up its heels in blitheness and tramping about its enclosure as it observed the very curious humans on the other side being tormented by a horde of furry animals.

After a small misidentification, Andy Menton [@Rita Su] and Sherlock Dols [@Marius Brown] seemed to be trying to figure out what exactly was going on between the two of them so as to explain one another's' actions if at all possible. An affable chatterbox, Andy seemed more than willing to let the little misunderstanding slide, while Sherlock appeared more than a little sheepish over his own actions; fair enough, many people would be if you cast a spell on them and then asked questions later. On the other hand @Isadora Everridge didn't want to risk having her dress and jewelry snatched away by the greedy paws of the nifflers. She would instead elect to run away from this situation altogether so that she could try and find someone better equipped to help...

Like... whom?
Isadora Everridge EXITS the Grounds
Unlike at the much larger Faerietale Endings ball, here the Nifflers seemed more intent on leaving the immediate vicinity as opposed to sticking around and purposefully trying to nab some goods. That being said, with so few people and distractions in the immediate area, it was very easy for two such nifflers to find themselves over their bills in trouble. Of course they saw the pretty things that the people had, and they wanted them. The shinies in the area were so painfully visible that they didn't really need to look; all they would have to do is try to grab them.

Of course, they would have no idea what it was that they were actually dealing with; a bunch of students rather well-versed in the ways of magic. Fourth years as opposed to haphazard first years that could have made for potentially easier targets. Still, since when had that ever stopped a determined Niffler from getting its paws on treasure? If anything, it made the treasure more appealing, almost more precious to have.

Such was the case for a cream-furred niffler who had had the unfortunate luck of being the one going for @Eun-ji Lee Hunt's earrings. Little did it know that in its audacious attempt a certain @Flash Holmwood would spring to her defense and blast off a Revulsion jinx in an attempt to get it to drop any jewelry it had already managed to take. However, perhaps between the commotion and the sudden shift in atmosphere, something went wrong with Flash's casting [WDC11, Wisdom 16 Critical Failure] and instead of the cream colored hellion getting thrown away from the fray, the stockily built Slytherin lad went instead. He was arcanely tossed around seven feet (around 2 meters) away from the fray and flat on his rear. At least he hadn't been hurt, other than his pride, that was.

Seeing this occur, @Eun-Ji Lee Hunt took matters into her own hands, trying her best to fend off the little beasties on her own by the use of an Immobulus spell. Maybe that would stall out their greedy little hearts long enough for them all to make an escape. Alas, though Eun-Ji was a practiced duelist and an excellent healer for team Ravenclaw, she would be hard pressed [WDC16, Wisdom 19; TP7, CP2, 20 Accuracy v. 22 Evasion] to land her ambitious hit on the charcoal niffler. As the spell skittered off to the ground, the slate-furred creature seemed to spin on a dime, beholding what it now perceived to be a newfound threat to its well-being. Puffing out its fur and slightly arching its curved back, the niffer was evidently entering a self-defensive posture, bill slightly open as if to warn anything that came close that it was not afraid to bite if need be.

While this occurred, the cream fella decided to take advantage of the hubbub and elected to leap onto Eun-Ji's shoulders. The girl would feel slightly moist webbed feet lightly scratch at her delicate exposed skin, tracking mud and grime wherever they went, until with a quick swipe, the niffler made quick work [TP7, Accuracy 26 v. 25 Evasion] of her coveted earrings, tucking them into his expansive pouch and then leaping off of the girl so as not to be thrown off by her.

Eun-Ji's poor luck would continue as @Jack Burnett attempted to confront these creatures head on with the use of a Knockback Jinx. A helpful spell in a duelist's arsenal, and one of the easiest to cast. Being a perfectionist, there was no way that he could miss. That being said, an unearthly chill in the air that radiated from a nearby Durmstragian boy (Yefim Rumyantsev) would be just enough [Wisdom 21; TP1 (Trigger), Redirect Eun-ji Lee Hunt] to throw off his aim just enough so that his crosshairs would land upon Eun-ji herself. Graciously, however, the girl was at least good enough at dodging to avoid [Raw Accuracy 13 v. Evasion 17] the wayward casting.

A certain charcoal niffler, who while now placed into attack mode wanted to make good of its situation for at least one turn (and also because the mod doesn't feel like making it attack just yet), it decided to go after the very person who had attacked it; perhaps a strange form of Niffler revenge or the like. Either way, Lee Yu-Jun was ready for it, and instead of trying to protect the shiny buttons on his coat, he lashed out at the creature with an open hand and an intent to swat it out of the air. Which, I may add, he certainly did thanks to the help of a sudden sense of total calm in his core; as if something about Flash had managed to trigger a sense of precision [TP5, CP10 (Trigger)] in the Beauxbatons student. The boy was not a martial artist; this had been more of a deflection than an actual attack, but it had still managed to injure the poor critter quite badly [90 damage] due to the boy's obnoxious strength. Skidding backwards, the poor niffler had to spend the rest of his time trying to recover from the smack, rubbing its bill in a mixture of confusion and pain and letting out a series of low squeaks as if to ask its attacker to explain why they had felt the need to injure it.

As the charming diricawl made its exit, Aida heard it: the voice of the Undead King. He was calling, urgently but with an affection like a pleased god’s, and Aida was happy as well. This was their day. The best day. Fulfilling their true calling was such a rare blessing that the wix scarcely believed it wasn’t all a dream. Following the sound of the king’s voice, Aida knew it was time. Substantial distraction was diverting the opposition, and the riskier mission now seemed at its best chance of success: freeing the silver unicorn and the golden colt.

Certainly the beauty of the beasts was of mythic proportions, the kind that could dazzle even the coldest heart into yearning to take them into one’s own possession. Still, to Aida, the entrapment of the unicorns was the most heartbreaking of all. Like horses, they were born to run and roam freely over expansive wild terrain, not to be locked into an enclosure at the whim of some biped. That they were kept in the clutches of the greedy and carted about as entertainment was as foul an insult to their enigmatic grace as Aida could bear to imagine.

Remembering the pain of a black Andalusian named Manticore, Aida’s former best friend, the wix shuddered with the memory that scarred them most. The wix could still hear his powerful hooves beating against his dilapidated prison enclosure, bringing thunder to accompany his terrified screams. Everything they did now, Aida did to honor Manticore’s memory. In the white wix’s dreams, the Undead King often took on that horses’s powerful form, communicating directly to Aida’s heart the importance of persistence and enduring the anguish of training in order to one day free all that suffered as he had suffered.

“In your name, my king, I toil. Thank you for this day, and may your kingdom come where we may all be free at last.”

Aida moved to uncouple the latches on the enclosure of the silver unicorn and golden colt, bowing with a sway of white ribbons and long downy trails like a humbled swan. A fire-eyed desert owl cried above, watching over it all.

“Please be safe on your way.”
