Each potion in Pericles' arsenal was designed to heal or harden the constitution, but now he was ready to expand into offense. The erumpent potion, and even its raw ingredients, was dangerously volatile. He chose to brew under the watch of the potions professor. As his cauldron pre-heated over a low flame, he chopped and measured four ounces of Erumpent Horn, then set the remainder safely away from the heat. The chunks were added to mortar and ground into fine dust. Pericles then scooped two measures of Explosive Fluid and three measures of Flobberworm Mucus to cauldron simultaneously, using a measure in each hand, pouring but not stirring. The ground horn dust was brushed into the batch and left to cook for five minutes. After his watch counted down, he waved his aspen wand above the cauldron, then set a second timer for thirty-five minutes. He cleaned the mortar while he waited, using it to crush and combine both sea salt and sulphur. When the timer dinged he waved his wand over the mixture again. Pericles measured approximately a pinky-sized sprinkling of the salt and sulphur mixture to two glass vials, then carefully topped them off with the finished potion. With a third and final wave of his wand above the vials, he corked them, and promised the professor he would store them in a chilled container.

Potions didn't always have to be serious and useful, and neither did potion brewing, and Dee lived by that opinion. Potions could just be interesting, or odd, or quite frankly silly. Such as the hiccoughing potion that she'd decided to brew for honestly no other reason than because she wanted to. Perhaps she'd spike Sauber's tea with it when she was done.

Humming to herself cheerfully, she set her cauldron on a fire carefully regulated to a low to medium heat, before she measured the Doxy eggs into her mortar and started mushing them into a paste. The measure of powdered octopus was then added gradually, never too much at once, and folded into the paste carefully - and then the whole thing went into her cauldron, where it immediately began to heat up.

To keep it from burning, Dee quickly poured in the ten fluid ounces of vinegar and firewhiskey in equal parts - and perhaps she sipped a little of the whiskey while she was at it, too - before beginning to stir the potion as instructed, twice clockwise and twice on counter. Compared to the potions she'd mostly been brewing lately, all the ones she'd found in the restricted section, this was almost too easy, so she could turn her brain off and let her hands do the work.

The next fourty-five minutes were used to clear away equipment, cleaning her mortar, putting away unused ingredients apart from the very jiggly sloth brain still sitting on the desk, and chipping away at her history of magic essay. Once that time had run out, she dropped the sloth brain into the potion - gladly so, she had been feeling it stare at her accusingly from its position on the table - and then turned down the fire to a low temperature. Now all that was left was to wait another twenty minutes, and to wave her wand at the end, and then she had accomplished absolutely nothing helpful - but she was in possession of the perfect potion for petty little pranks.
