Interacting with @Xailah Alptraum and @Pericles Dralt

Breana pursed her lips, the grip on her wand tighten as her senior retorted her question rather harshly. If this were someone within her year level, she would've gone off on her by now. She would've come back at her with another catty and petty remark, but unfortunately like isn't always dealt that way. Xailah is her senior, and from her interactions with them such as Ruby and Gris, Breana has held them in such high regard. It would be like talking back to a teacher to the upright girl. Despite her efforts, maybe they just couldn't get along, no matter how hard she would try. It was clear that the Gryffindor prefect has already made her mind about the little Ravenclaw, and nothing won't change it, at least for now. She merely nodded, accepting the response reluctantly.

She then turned her attention to someone who'd actually be happy with her input, Pericles. The curly-haired child blinked at him, furrowing her eyebrow at what he meant before realizing he meant the cut that the mosp did. "Oh, yeah..." Breana said, finally acknowledging it as it's slowly staining her dress. Usually, such cuts were from trees and such that she climbed around her neighborhood, not from a suddenly rabid and large bug threatening a student body. Still, a gash is still a gash. "Heh, guess the bug thought I could do better with the dress..." She said, trying to brush off the damage it did her. Pericles still persisted, asking around for some help. Breana reassured him, placing a hand on his arm to stop him for a moment. "Hey, Per, it's okay." She insisted, and with another rip of the hem of her dress, Breana tied it around her waist, applying pressure to the wound. It's not the instant fix that she needed, but it'll do for now. They have more pressing matters to focus on.

"I said it before, and I'll say it again, Peri..." Breana gave a confident grin to her friend, still illuminating the three of them with her Lumos. "Ya ain't gettin' rid of me that easily. 'Sides, someone gots to shine a light while others take care of the mosps. Might as well be me, unless you want me to shoot out fires at them... That's the only spell I got." She chuckled a bit. As self-deprecating of a comment it might be, the Ravenclaw was correct with the statement. She was thinking that, logically, Pericles might have more spells in him than her, and Xailah definitely has the leg up on both of the first years. (Not to mention that the incident with her definitely bruised the child's self-esteem heavily, so even if she's as spell-heavy as Pericles, she would self-doubt herself more than normal.) At least with her sustaining Lumos, she can give her companions some sort of leverage against the beasts. Even if Xailah wasn't talking directly to her, she still made a mental note of her words, hoping that she won't have to take such advice and be the group's lighthouse for now.

Pericles had frowned Xailah's way went the witch droned another jab at Breana. Yet just as her ferocity had lessened, so too had the severity of is disapproval. As nwilling as he was to let her chew a chunk out of another friend, he cared and was concerned about her- or, as much as he cared about her, he was unwilling to let her chew a chunk out of another friend of his. Whichever way one chose to cut that cake, Pericles would lament his social life later. A firm smile replaced the look, glad for her agreement to take the broom after all. He gave a short nod of further encouragement, trusting the lioness' cunning and tenacity to win out in the end. Breana's constancy was a welcome reassurance. Though he was worried about her wound, he managed to crack a wry (if anxious) grin at her passing self-jab. "No accounting for tastes," he denied with a shake of his head for the mosp's obvious absence of fashion. "Light is plenty helpful. Let us try and avoid any fires, shall we?"

He was off, using the Lumos she sustained to take the staggered seats two at a time. When his spell struck the mosp and bombarded the poor thing against a wooden bench, Pericles paused in a moment of wide-eyed shock. The lad was hardly a sadist, yet there was a rush of victory, a thrill of successful spellwork which he wouldn't attest to out loud. He shook his head back into the present, closing the gap between himself and the Gryffindor girl. "You alright, Meenauh?" the Ravenclaw inquired above the cacophony, offering her a hand up. With a pull of his arm he scanned the stands, catching the sight of Ruby and Margo taking down another of the beasts some ways away. Xailah, down at the edge of the pitch, had passed the school broom off to a curious couple trying to escape. In spite of all the chaos, Pericles could not help stopping and staring in wonder when he realized they had a captive mosp. His imagination ran wild with the exchange between them and his companion; he could only surmise what they were up to, though he was glad to see Xailah providing others an opportunity for escape. The sight- combined with an apparent absence of mosps in the stands- struck him with a plan for their next order of operations.

"We ought to regroup and help others escape!" he insisted to Breana and Meenauh. "The brooms were in a container at the entrance, there'll be a crowd clamoring to reach them. We should find the rest of those I've scattered in the stands and fly them down." Unless one of them suggested otherwise, Pericles would resume his search, moving quick beneath Breana's light to try and track a broom. Once one was found, he would immediately mount and kick off. Tonight was a game-changer: the boy had such unease about flying before, but after managing to pull off catching a person, brooms seemed far less daunting.
You control the broom, it doesn't control you.
What had he been so unsure of?

Suddenly Aida was approached by an interesting-looking person on a broom. "You are trying to sssave it. Odd," said the person, giving no self-introduction but instead thrusting out a broom. "You two might need this more than I do." Was this person (Xailah) acting as an ally to Aida, Mosp #4, and Alexander? It was unexpected, certainly, but given the heroic behavior she had just seen from Alexander Aida decided she was willing to believe in certain people again. For now. Should she not take allies where she could, even if voices in the back of her head whispered conspiracies about it being a trap? "I hope it can continue living. If not... well, give it a new life," continued the golden-eyed brunette. Aida blushed but nodded solemnly, lips tight. This person… golden eyes. Curious. Even stranger, even with an apparently English accent, this individual had a voice that was uncannily similar to her own in some hard-to-explain quality. There was a strong non-human aura to this person, which immediately put Aida more subconsciously at ease, for better or for worse. In a strange way, Aida was not actually surprised that this person was here trying to help her all of a sudden. On the surface it made no sense, but in her heart it made perfect sense to her.

“Thank you,” said Aida, eyes full of curiosity. “I hope to talk to you again,” continued the young white witch, cocking her head like a strange bird. There were some mysteries there that Aida wanted to explore, but there simply was no time. To save the mosp, Aida had to make it her priority. The poor thing continued to sputter and leak ooze across the stair it was resting on. In the distance it seemed like more mosps were still caught up in a struggle; this was her last chance, then... but Aida could not leave Mosp #4 alone to possibly bleed out in order to opt for some unknown possibility of saving others. Besides, what of Alexander? What about his feelings? Somehow, Aida had to save Mosp #4 not only for the inherent value of its life… there was something sacred in what Alexander had done, and Aida did not want that to suddenly become meaningless from a moment’s caprice.

Taking the broom, the girl with bone-white hair looked at Alexander. “Can you please drive this thing to Griffith’s while I make sure this mosp doesn’t hit anything?” Looking back at her new apparent ally, Aida bowed deep and solemnly as if to convey a world of gratitude that her words could not. If Alexander would waken the broom with "up," Aida would mount the back of it and make room for Alexander on the front of the broom. Grasping the mosp's rope in her hands, Aida would watch Xailah grow farther away as they (presumably) lifted off.

Who knows what Meenauh would look like, if that creature would have stung her. Maybe in her leg, maybe in her belly. Or maybe it would have been a direct blow right into the centre of her heart. This time the luck was on her side (along with a masterful dodge she didn't expect to pull out well). Pericles' spell flew right above her and hit the mosp hard. Meenauh didn't follow the trajectory of the mosp, as she was lying with her palmed face in the ground. At that moment she had all rights to consider herself brave, maybe even not fully realising it.

The buzzing was gone and she rolled over to her back to catch the white-haired boy's inquiry.
Interacting with @Pericles Dralt
"Thank you," was her gratitude and she meant it. She let him pull her onto her feet and had a thorough review of the surroundings. No dense buzzing was heard nearby. Rejoice. She followed the boy's glance over to the place where Xailah stood and she noticed a few other students having something captured.

"Is that..." she asked not quite believing that a couple of students actually managed to capture one of the beasts and were wholeheartedly going to transport it somewhere using the broom Xailah was handing to them. Probably, Prof. Griffith, because she couldn't come up with any other explanation.

Her observations were interrupted by Pericles' plan of actions. Regroup, help, escape. She pondered over it for a couple of seconds, until she realised that the main word that caught her attention was the word 'crowd'.

"Wait, wait. A crowd?" she asked trying to stop Pericles, who was starting to head away, in order to get more answers. Meenauh tried to add another light to the darkness by attempting a Lumos. She looked around into the darkness with just a few sources of illumination: Quinn, Nico, some boy, some girl, some girl, some boy, some boy, Annie, Saskia, Lamik, some girl, Cecily, Pericles, Xailah, some girl, some boy, Ruby, Margo... Indeed, if there was a ball planned, their numbers were still lower than expected. Quite a few, but not a crowd (considering a few students have managed to escape). Maybe the others have already escaped? But why a crowd then.

"How many people are there, Pericles?" she inquired and realised the stands may have not been the best place to have a ball in, "How exactly big this ball is?" she felt the urge to save everyone who needed to be saved, the rushed pace of her heartbeat made every word heavy and serious. She didn't know whether professors were on their way. She didn't even know anyone managed to get out to summon them, "Pericles, are there others?"

There would appear to be a silent understanding between the white-haired witch, and the catty brunette. There was a connection there- a spark of sorts, it was a rare thing; something that she had only felt with so few. The two young witches had mutual hope that, the bundled beastie, that the albino carried; would get to live for a little bit longer. The albino cared about the mosp. Xailah didn't quite understand why, but to be fair there were a lot of things that she too cared about, without knowing why. Perhaps one day the albino would save one of those things- or a person, that the Gryffindor cared about.

The brunette would watch the lavender-eyed child command the broom 'up'. Xailah didn't have much else to say to the albino. Sometimes words were not necessary; so instead of saying anything, she returned the bow. The Gryffindor dipped her head, her dark locks falling into her face. And then she left. She ducked out of any lingering wand-light, and sought solace in the shade of the stands. The white witch, and the lion would meet again. Maybe not the day after, or a month from now. But they would see each other again.

The metamorph was going to disappear for a little while. She had done what she had come here to do. Everything was under control now for the most part, now that the mosps were dead. Xailah originally planned to join Meenauh, and Pericles again but... there was still something nagging her. The mosps. They were dead yes, but they still bothered her. As she limped through the stands, she would watch from a distance, as her only two friends would deliver a final blow upon one of the flying creatures. She knew what she had to do. The metamorph continued to stumble along, growing farther from her former group.

The venom coursing through her veins, made her feel slightly numb. The group would hopefully be okay. And even if things did start to go wrong again, she trusted that Meenauh would at least keep herself, and Pericles safe, and in check. The dark-haired witch would stop her trek momentarily, after spying a faint silhouette of something laying on the ground. It was small, and blue. Well, it looked blue at least, the faint lights that hit the object, sucked the color from it, making it appear grey. She tucked the thing away, in a pocket.

Xailah had an odd way of coping with things. Especially when death was involved. The child had a strange understanding of the subject, as she was exposed to it at a young age. Her family home was quite literally built upon the concept. And while the child had an understanding of the topic, it did bother her sometimes, mostly because she was unsure how to react when something died. She didn't react like how she was supposed to.

The girls immediate reaction to witnessing something die, was to mimic the burial process. Close the eyes. Cross the arms. Straighten the shirt. Close the coffin. That is what she had done during the Masquerade Ball, when that part-giant perished. And that was what she was going to do now. She was morbid. It was her natural reaction. Besides, someone had to do clear the corpses of the mosps from the pitch. Someone had to pretend like they cared. The mosps, while they were not human, they could still feel- when they were living at least. Xailah was going to take them back. Back to the place they never should have left.

The mosp sank to the ground as it bled out. Okay, that was fine. She felt a little sorry for the insect, but at least it was gone now. Casting a quick scan around the stands, as well as she could see in the darkness after the Bluebell Flames failed, she was surprised to see the majority of the insects had been taken care of, wincing at the shattered pieces of the goblet she’d transfigured earlier—as proud as she was of herself for thinking that up, it was going to be absolutely gross for whoever cleaned it up. She only hoped it wouldn’t be her.

The cut on Dmitri’s face sealed up well—she hoped she took care of any possible venom, too. Glancing down at his earlier wound, she noticed that the other cut hadn’t been healed completely, but that was all she could manage for now. Time to go. Leaving the others, Cel leaned over the railing quickly, eyes widening as she spotted—holy shit, what kind of snake was that? But there was only one person capable of conjuring something that big.

“The professors are here,” she told them, whirling from the railing, careful not to step on the broken glass. “Come on. Let’s go down to help—if we do maybe we won’t get in trouble.” Well, that might depend on whoever was there. The Transfiguration professor probably wouldn’t give them detention, but if it was someone like a head of house? They probably wouldn’t be let go so easily. Regardless, helpfulness would probably put in a good word for them, and… “I really don’t want to go back to the Great Hall only to find three professors waiting for us.” She’d never attended a detention in her life, and she didn’t plan on breaking that record.

She wasn’t sure how much they could help, but they’d killed two moss on their own, surely there was something they could do. Healing people, for one thing. Getting people out. That giant snake looked pretty cool, but there was only one. She wondered if there were any other professors there, too, but it was too dark for her to make anything out.

With that, motioning to the others, she ran towards the stairs, only turning back once to make sure everyone was following. There were still plenty of mosps down in the Pitch, and while this group had zero friends to speak of, they had not getting detention to motivate them.

“Come on.”

"Adam?"

The voice that cut through the smoke wasn't Cecily's, and yet somehow it still knew Adam's name. He froze for a moment, hesitant to get any closer for some reason. There were all sorts of horror stories that started just like this: a hero lured in by a familiar, innocent voice, only to be devoured by a monstrous siren. Adam was fairly certain that there were no sirens at Hogwarts (if they existed at all) but he was still suspicious. He'd been through a lot tonight. Who could blame him? "We're over here! Are you okay?" He knew that voice, he knew it! It was on the tip of his tongue, and still his feet were rooted to the ground, like a sailor afraid of sea monsters. Adam really didn't want to die.

Thankfully, his fears were put to rest by another, far more indignant voice from the same direction. "WHAT THE SHIT?! FRICKING FRICKBUG!" No siren would ever say that, but it was right out of a Hogwarts' student's vocabulary book. Pushing his way through the rest of the smokescreen, Adam finally came face-to-face with a trio of his classmates just in time to see one of the bug-creatures crash to the ground, dead. He stared at its knife-ridden corpse for a moment before looking up at the team of wizards that had taken it down.

They were an unexpected crew, to say the least. He was relieved to see Cecily, seemingly alive and well. If she'd been hurt, he never would have lived it down -- and rightfully so, he supposed. Celynne Gray was among the group too, with her wand at her side. She must have been the first voice, the one that Adam had nearly recognized. In all honesty, he was surprised to see her here. Maybe it was a little rude to assume that she never left the common room, but he'd never really seen her around before. He nodded at Celynne to acknowledge her presence.

He was sure that he'd never met the other boy. His wand was out too, sustaining a bright ball of bluebell flames that lit up the area. Amazingly, he was just as unscathed as the other two. Had they seriously taken down that creature without getting a scratch? Adam was impressed, not to mention a little bit scared. And he hadn't even started processing the giant owls that flew overhead, although it was nice to know what had caused the heavy flapping sound he'd heard on his way over.

Totally confused, Adam drifted over to Cecily's side. She was the only person here he really knew, and with any luck, she'd be able to fill him in on the scene that he definitely hadn't been expecting to walk in on. Before he could get one of a dozen questions in, however, Celynne shouted a warning to the group.

The professors were here, and she wanted to go to them? It sounded crazy to Adam, but there was a certain logic to it, and there weren't very many other options. He gave Cecily a wary look, hoping she'd see the danger in the plan, but even if she did there wasn't much arguing with their fellow Ravenclaw. Celynne was already running towards the stairs that Adam had just pulled himself up.

"If you say so," he muttered under his breath, not thrilled to be heading back towards the pitch. He had to trust that Celynne had thought this through, even if it was hard to agree with. Maybe they wouldn't get detention after all. Maybe the sight of Adam's bloody wound would convince the professors to go easy on him. Maybe.

Sticking to Cecily's side, Adam reminded himself that there would be plenty of time for explanations in the Great Hall -- or the hospital wing, whichever came first. He absolutely needed to hear about the knives, the owls, everything in between. Plus, it would probably be polite to introduce himself to the boy with the bluebell flames at some point. Adam was getting more overwhelmed than he'd thought possible. What had he expected at a Hogwarts ball?

He took a deep breath and plunged back down the stairs with his newfound group, hoping desperately that things had improved in the short time since he'd left the pitch.

Cecily's eyebrows involuntarily shot up her forehead as all three blades sunk true into their mark. Frankly, she had been highly doubtful of Celynne's absurd plan. Really, like incendio, nothing with knives ever ended well in this school. However, this scene appeared to be different. The blades stuck out of the mosp at odd angles, the protrusions at odds with its round body. A yellow ooze began to drip out of the wounds, causing Cecily to really wonder what they were dealing with. She didn't know much about magical creatures, but she had at least expected them all to bleed, well, blood. Clearly, though, this was something else. Did all wasps bleed yellow goop? Or was it the mosp in it causing the slime? Regardless, it was disgusting, and she just wanted it dead and gone.

She gripped the remaining two hilts tight in her fist as the mosp retaliated, once more aiming for Dmitri. There was nothing she could do as the creature delivered yet another nasty strike towards the boy, surely one that was painful at best, although likely closer to excruciating. But this last strike of vengeance appeared to be its last as it dipped towards the ground, finally collapsing from its wounds. As it lay helplessly on the ground, no longer a threat, Cecily felt a pang of regret. These were living creatures. And although they might have been injuring and killing students, they shouldn't have had to die. They had lives. They were alive. And she had just taken that from them.

She pushed the thought out of her mind, though, as she looked down towards the boy, blood seeping out of a gash crossing his face. Anger replaced her guilt, hot and bold. Goddamn bugs, maybe they did deserve to die. They had attacked first, right? The students were just trying to have a good time, and in swooped the frickbugs-- to borrow Dmitri's nomenclature-- to destroy their hopes and dreams and lives. Dammit, she shouldn't feel sorry for them. They attacked without provocation. They brought this upon themselves.

As Celynne tended to Dmitri's wound, Cecily heard a familiar voice calling to her from beyond the darkness. Adam stumbled through the smoke, seemingly simply appearing out of the screen. "Adam!" she cried with relief. He was alive! He was moving! He was-- Cecily stopped short as a bright blue light lit up the stands, courtesy of Dmitri. As the light fell upon Adam, she grimaced. His chest torn apart, no doubt from the razor-sharp stinger of a mosp. He was in bad shape, she realised, a sinking feeling mixing in her chest with a boiling rage. God, she hoped that he had defeated whichever mosp attacked him, killed it a thousand times, or she was about to storm down there and do it for him.

But before she could say a word, Celynne had already begun to run away again. She needed to slow her roll, or she was going to get them all killed. Although, she had to admit, her last reckless plan had worked surprisingly well. Cecily looked down at the dead mosp on the ground, a pool of whatever one would call what leaked out of it slowly growing on the ground beneath it. Suddenly feeling empty-handed, Cecily leaned down and, grasping the hilts of the knives, pulled them out of the carcass one by one. This was by far the most disgusting thing she had ever been made to do. Yellow ooze flooded out of the wounds, sticking to the blades as she removed them from the body. Shrugging off her cardigan, she carefully used the sleeve to wipe the yellow substance off of the blades. She shivered as the breeze touched her bare shoulders, but she quickly finished the task and discarded the cloth to the side when the job was done.

Now back up to five weapons of mass destruction, she grasped them tightly as she followed Adam and Celynne down the stairs. She was absolutely certain that this was not the safest course of action-- they should just get back to the castle, because hell, their punishment wasn't going to get easier the longer they stayed out here-- but nevertheless, pushed on. She was not so ready for more combat, more stupid plans. Bring it on, she thought, as she hefted the knives in her left hand, leaving her right open for throwing. She was ready to kill some more frickbugs.

As precarious as their situaton had been, it quickly took a turn for the better. Mosps seemed to be dropping left and right, whether it was the courtesy of the owls she could now see or the other students finally rallying together to put up a fight, the amount of dead mosps only seemed to grow higher and higher. Whatever it was. at least they had some breathing room now. Literally. "You really like that spell too much." She jested shooting a glance back at the fading cloud of smoke dissapting into the air. It had certainly caught her off guard, that much was for certain but at least this time, it wasn't as bad as her previous experience. Well, perhaps it had provided some resourceful use in the sense it had concealed them from the wrath of the insects as they made their escape.

The one thing she was not looking forward to was the return to the castle. The barrage of tired, hurt and scared students pouring into the castle would be enough to awaken a sleeping dragon. She was sure the professors would be having some choice words to say about this in the coming days. "We might as well be making our way out of here while we still can, who knows if these things brought any friends." The idea of that just made her shudder. They had only dealt with a couple, she didn't dare want to know how many had swarmed the Pitch alone, it was a open field and excellent hunting ground for these bugs. As far as she was concerned, the castle seemed like a relatively good option right about now. This whole ball had once again been run into the gorund by some unforeseen circumstance. At this point, it was almost expected.

Elena realized at this point their hands were still interlocked, she hadn't really paid attention to the fact given they were in the midst of trying to ward off the murderous hordes of mosps. "Uh..Lamik?" She looked up at him a smal smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Thanks."It was true, if it hadn't been for that faceful of smoke, that mosp would have probably zeroed in even more. . She gave his hand a gentle tug as she nodded towards the castle. She wanted to let go but for some reason, the warm and reassurinf feeling upon the touch was something that she didn't quite want to give up. "We should get going, I'll light the way ahead in case any more of our little friends here decided to make a comeback." Using her other hand to light the way, she prayed to Merlin the worst of it was over. Well, for today at least,

@Lamik Fillestar, with keen senses picking up vision's slack in the darkness, conveyed a crucial realization to @Elena Jangleton: the stands were cleared of mosps. Well: living mosps, that is. Elena, knowing all too well that one could not place trust in peace at Hogwarts, advised escaping before more misfortune found them. Her Lumos lit the way home.

@Breana Oliveire, from the back of a broom, continued to serve as a living lantern for those near her. @Xailah Alptraum departed from the glow, ensuring the escape of @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood and @Alexander Varellion, then began scouring the stands for fallen soldiers. Most fortuitously, there were no students strewn about the stands. Only poor unfortunate bugs. While she began the process of providing them a dignified exit, @Meenauh Silmataurea added to Breana's radius of light with a Lumos of her own. Pericles was gung-ho about bringing brooms down to the teeming crowd, to which Meenauh reacted with caution. Given they were in the spectator stands, designed to overlook the pitch and its skies, she would have a clear visual of what was going on below.

@Celynne Gray- be it for the good in her heart, or the mere hope of redeeming her way out of potential detention- encouraged her fellows to help in the mad pit down below. Although leery of the situation, @Adam Harringtom had finally reunited with @Cecily Quinn. He was not about to let her be lost in the insanity again, at least- not without him. Braving that foul, sticky, sallow ichor, Cecily retrieved transfigured blades before continuing onward with her newfound adventuring party.

Those in the stands would witness the few remaining mosps flying up and out from the pitch. Their luck persisted: the beasts did not descend on the onlookers, but fled instead, perhaps finally coming to comprehend the demise of their many fellows. The battle had come to a close. They were returning to the forest, those few who remained, many worse for wear.

Combat has concluded as our event dwindles to an end. This is curtain call: now is your last chance to escape, converse, take a broom or descend the stairs. One last thank you to all who participated- it's been a pleasure!
