Ying's eyes widened in astonishment when she saw the brunette girl's rat get onto in its back legs at her command. Just the sound of clicking her tongue had been enough for the little creature to follow her instructions. The young first year had never seen something like that and it was really cool in her opinion! "Woah..." A breathy sound of surprise escaped her lips followed immediately by a smile and a bit of her lower lip when she realized that her reaction could reveal her muggle-born origins, taking in account what people was starting to talk in that room, that probably wasn't the best idea, letting them know from where she had came from.
Hugh was keeping his accusations against Vlad and the boy's family, specially his father. Ying had to agree with Serena, that we are not all our families. "It's true..." She said in a whisper, her voice coming in a low, shy tone from the shadows of her bunk where she was sitting. Ying's heart sank in her chest, when she heard Vlad explaining himself to the tall figure in front of him. It was really sad to feel alone, she knew that feeling to well, how it hurt to feel lonely and invisible to the people that were supposed to care the most.
The young girl slightly jolted at the look Hugh sent towards Slava. Ying gulped at the sight before looking at the Durmstrang boy with concerned eyes letting him know that he probably should keep it quite. Her attention soon diverted again towards her teammate that was now telling them about SCARAB. She had never heard or read anything about it, not being born in the wizarding world, it didn't make her access to that kind of information easy, not like she could ask her parents or anyone to send her the Daily Prophet by owl every week! Although, by the look of it that wouldn't even be the right way to get to know all of those things. Ying was ultimately confused about all she was learning...we shouldn't believe in the news? Wasn't the journalists' job and duty to speak the truth to their readers? What kind of world was that where she had found herself living?
Ying felt relief washing over her small body. She finally started breathing normally again, letting out the air that had been caught inside her chest, when Serena invited them to leave and go to the sugar fair, "Wait, wait!" Ying called after her, jumping out of her bunk and hurrying behind the older girl's footsteps, "You're coming?" She happily asked looking over her left shoulder, towards the others in the room. Not waiting for a reply, Ying continued her way towards the door, leaving the room and it's occupants behind her, expect those who also decided to go out of it.

== Writing as approved Durmstrang iNPC Vyacheslav Aleksandrovich PreobrazhenskyVlad immediately claimed that the other boy’s words about death and violence were completely inaccurate, and Slava had to admit that it did sound bizarre. That kind of stuff didn’t happen in real life, right? Certainly not involving teenagers still of school age? He was having trouble following some of what was being said—stuff about Vlad being left to die? Some sickness at Hogwarts? The intensity and seriousness of the words being spoken made him deeply uncomfortable, and he felt like he was intruding on something he was never meant to hear about. Between the discomfort of this whole situation and the (presumably somewhat) fast-spoken English, Slava began missing words, only serving to further his confusion regarding what was happening here. He didn’t understand Vlad’s response to Slava’s question besides “no”, it wasn’t a joke. Yeah, he could see that now. But it was an incredibly atypical situation.
The tall boy gave him a particularly unfriendly look, clearly not appreciating Slava’s weak attempt to gain more clarity. It was hardly an offensive question, though. Did this guy really find this stuff so normal that it was so out of the question to wonder if this was just some weird, elaborate prank? «Хорошо, боже,» “Okay, jeez,” Slava muttered. He squeezed his hands together, wondering if he could sink further into the sofa, and was all too glad when the boy’s gaze was shifted away from him and he was met with Ying’s concerned look instead. At least the boy proceeded to explain what SCAR was: a group for half-breeds. Nothing wrong with that, right? But he understood the mention of the connection to the incident with the Koldovstoretz team, and so that made them bad if they were really behind it.
Slava struggled to follow the boy’s speech as it continued, talking about things that were beyond his understanding both in terms of the language and the events themselves. The boy—who was now yelling—was clearly impassioned, and Slava could understand that, at least. It made the Russian sympathize with him—Vlad was painting him as crazy, and even Serena who seemed to be friends with him wasn’t exactly jumping to aid him. It was just him and his word versus Vlad’s. Vlad’s nonchalance regarding something the tall boy felt so strongly about must have been frustrating. If there was even a fraction of truth to what he was claiming, that meant Vlad was associated with some very bad people, and if that was the case and everything he was saying was a lie, that was much worse than Vlad’s claim that the other boy was crazy.
Slava had no relevant knowledge to determine who was telling the truth in this situation. They were both pretty convincing in their own way—Vlad sounded logical and like he was just defending himself, while the other was passionate and certainly believed the things he was saying. But none of this was Slava’s business. As curious as he was by nature, he felt like this was something he didn’t want to know about. Taking sides in what seemed to be a dangerous situation seemed like it could only hurt him, especially considering how little he knew. There wasn’t even enough consistent information to properly get a sense of the moral character of either of them. So Slava would offer kindness if around either of them in the future, but stay healthily wary. Wariness was not typically something he employed, preferring an open, friendly approach to everyone. But this wasn’t a normal situation, and he could see that it was far more than just simple drama from personality conflicts. It would do him good to stay out of it.
He was grateful for the defusion of the tension as the pair departed and others started going their separate ways. Serena and Ying were heading to the sugar fair—rather hurriedly on the older girl’s part—and Slava wouldn’t hesitate to join them, quickly rising from his position on the sofa. “Right behind you,” he responded to them, offering a grin to match Ying’s happy tone. As he glanced around the room to see if others were coming, though, his grin faded. He had been too focused on the boys’ argument to have noticed a rather unwelcome arrival. His gaze hardened as it settled on the girl he had had an… altercation with back in April. Sharing a cabin with her would not be easy, but he wasn’t looking to make trouble. Unless she was. He took a breath and forced a smile back onto his face, following Ying out of the cabin.
