Hexwizard Task 1: Mahoutokoro v Ilvermorny

His scepter crackled to life right on cue, and Hadashi did huge damage to two people. Excellent. He of course took some too, but he had an image on the board to maintain. And he was enjoying this role WAY too much to just stop after the first time.

Hadashi raised his hand to his mouth and let out a laugh. But not his normal one, oh no. He was an Anime Queen of Darkness. There was only one laugh that could be done here.

"OOOOOH ho ho ho!! Was that meant to be an attack? Oh, how ADORABLE!"

Mahoutokoro was taking this. No question. They were going to tear these Americans apart.

Miles Thatcher already knew how annoying some people could be but to have such a high concentration in one school such as Mahoutokoro was astounding. Whether they were creating some theatrical soliloquy or trying to talk smack talk, they were just constantly running their mouths.

At least that drowned out the murmurs of the proposed cheating from his team that he could hear from the stands.

Down, but not out. It was time to start silencing these opponents.

THE CROWD GOES WILD!!! as the jet black-haired boy finishes his performance with a peace sign on top of a literal horse. Everyone seemed to enjoy his mini-performance, and that already makes his heart filled with joy and satisfaction. He even saw one of his teammate flashes a peace sign back at him, El smiles brightly as he is placed unto his position while blowing kisses to Jamie and the audience.

But now the game is starting, everyone looking focused and serious, especially their champion and his queen Rett. It is understandable as the position of the King and the Queen are the most important, in any setting really. But this game is a big deal to his peers. Not that this game isn't a big deal for him, .. it's just that he is never the competitive sort of guy to begin with. Sigh- he wishes he could bring his ukulele to this horse, he could've lightened the mood with a bit of a song~

"Keep your eyes open, dude. This is the big stage," Shamsi said, to his right. Akira took a second look at his classmate from the corner of his eye. Was the Indian boy actually taking this so seriously? So much so that he looked a bit wary as he scanned the opposition with a calculated glance? "Of course," Akira would scoff aloud, as if Shamsi's statement was preposterous -- especially when directed at someone as serious as himself -- but inside, he was secretly satisfied with Shamsi's statement of caution and his determined challenge to King Thatcher.

Akira was brought back to his rather stimulating conversation with Midorimori-senpai. My, the upperclassman had such tact, such skill in the eloquence of subtle flattery that simply struck the perfect balance: not so much that it became adulation, but just enough to warm the heart and ears of those who heard his words, which were soft like the petals of cherry blossoms. His senpai seemed to recognize Akira's efforts to help Shamsi bind the team in their discussions of strategy, and for that, he was grateful. Akira had to take a pause to smooth his hair under his biretta, as if to pat down his ego, which he knew he had to keep in check after hearing Midorimori-senpai's praises. "No, not at all," he protested modestly in this little dance of politeness. "The credit goes to my classmates and senpais, who have been such willing contributors." Minus Narumi, of course, but he kept this bitter thought to himself. "You're too humble," Akira praised him with a gentle, polite smile. "Such modestly is rare, coming from the already-distinguished son of an ancient family," he noted, subtly alluding to his senpai's fine upbringing. "I'm sure you will fulfil your role as Knight very well," he said confidently. Akira then watched as his senpai moved in front of Shamsi, knowing perfectly where to place himself.

Narumi issued his challenge, and Akira almost scoffed. "You held back for me last time?" He refused to believe this, as if it hurt his pride, and he made it known with his accusatory and incredulous tone. Akira believed himself to be the merciful one -- he absolutely could have given Narumi's skin to Hitoshi-senpai, but had chosen to levitate him out of the Dueling Club instead. But, whatever. "Is it fair?" he asked dubiously as he watched an opposing rook land right in front of Narumi. "If you say so, I accept," he said, amused. Well, he couldn't say no to a free favor from the boy, could he? What was it that Narumi mumbled in Giant afterwards? He couldn't tell.

He was impressed by Hitoshi-senpai's spell spread, and expected no less from his dueling senpai. The first round had turned out well, and he readied himself for the second, calculating his next move as his eyes scanned the board carefully.

Chiaki, after giving Ash one more pat, straightened and tried to not look scared as she faced their American opponents.

She cheered along with her team as Hadashi-san sent bolt of magic at the other team, even as he absorbed one from them. Adjusting the heavy weapon in her hand, her eyes darted around working out what would be best to do, trying to push aside a growing feeling of worry in her stomach.

The battle began with a flurry of movement as all the pieces scrambled into formation. With one exception -- both of the American Rooks had rushed at them as if hellhounds were on their tail. It was an impressive display of courage and bravery.

Shamsi barely noticed, so enthralled was he by the darkness radiating off himself and Big Blue, confirming that Mahoutokoro was the bad guy in this story. A quick glance at the other boards, and the Indian boy saw that Hogwarts, had also been given the role of villain. But Durmstrang, the traditionally dark school, was not.

The organisers sure as hell had guts, openly saying things like this. Shamsi shrugged, Well, if that was the role he was given--

Shamsi leaned back and cackled in the way he imagined the villains in stories tended to do.

"Seems the Light side can't handle our Queen."

Every thing was a blur from the moment Stephen set foot upon the board. He, like everyone before him, had undergone a splendid transformation, though as a Bishop, his finery was a bit more medievally austere. That suited Stephen fine. As a boy of Jewish faith, he was glad his staunchly observant grandparents were not here to see him in a "Bishop's" role. As for Stephen himself, the clothes did not make the ma boy. He was nothing but stoked to simply be a part of wizarding history, no matter how it all went down for him personally, or for team Ilvermorny overall.

He knew he should be taking a page from Miles' and Rett's books when it came to getting into the right head space strategically, but damn if his buddies Louca and Jamie didn't make him laugh. Okay, he shook off their banter and focused as he was given his marching orders -- quite literally.

It felt like as soon as that had been done, everything and everyone on the board burst into action. Spells were flying across the board from the two Queens. Both sides scored hits, but a very impressive spell spread left Ilvermorny worse for the wear when all was said and done. Nerves, he supposed, had gotten the better of his team as both of their white Rooks took off a little prematurely. Stephen was confused as to why their defense pieces were advancing across the battlefield, upon their chariots and at screaming fast speeds, towards their opponents in an offense maneuver. It was a marvelous sight to behold, no doubt, but care needed to be taken from this point forward.

More mistakes were simply not an option if they were going to be successful in defeating Mahoutokoro. Stephen moved to his position in Column A as strategized and waited.

It was this Queen's time to shine, his dress swirling around him with movement as majestic as he was. He had his eyes on the King on the other side, the Champion of Mahoutokoro. Their beams of light met, his being a glorious ray of bright, his being ominous and dark. Sadly they both hit. Rett's smirk turned into a sneer as the pain stretched through his body. "I'd rather lose both legs than kneel willingly to you."

The fluid ease with which Akira responded to Ginyami's compliments reminded the older boy just how experienced with politeness, manners, and high society in general the younger was. He chuckled lightly as he answered, "You say such modesty is rare and yet you exhibit it a great deal yourself; you, another distinguished son of a renowned family."

He inclined his head toward the dark bishop, readjusting his grip on the reins of his horse. "Thank you for your confidence and faith in me. In all honesty, however, we are lucky to have you on our side, Shimizu-san. I'm positive that the willing contributors of your classmates and senpais would accomplish little without you to help unify and guide us. Though...perhaps you should smile more often. With a radiance like that, I'm sure it will do wonders for your influence on people, especially coming from you."

He listened to Akira converse with Chikao as the game was played, keeping an eye on the board simultaneously. So far, so good, it seemed. They were taking hits, but they were dishing them out, too. Ginyami directed his horse as planned when it was his turn, careful to keep it steady as the shouting between teams increased.

One by one, each of Jamie's teammates took flight across the board. He looked on, starstruck. Now things were heating up! "Looking good, Stephonzo!" Jamie called, waving at the newly minted Bishop. Elowen caught his eye, and blew him a kiss. Jamie grinned and pressed it to his cheek (for good luck!). The energy in the room was absolutely electric. And then it was his turn to make a move.

"Onwards!" he cried, tightening his grip on the reins. His horse sprang to life, and with a spirited whinny, they were racing across the battlefield at breakneck speeds. The bumping of the chariot nearly sent its rider tumbling overboard, but the valiant knight held on for dear life. He couldn't possibly miss this for the world-- the game had just begun, and he was already ecstatic to experience everything it had to offer. He was a warrior now! Warriors didn't back down from anything, and they certainly didn't fly off the backs of their chariots like total idiots.

Suddenly, the chariot screeched to a halt. Jamie laughed breathlessly. "Wild ride!" He pushed his windswept curls out of his face and looked around. They'd come a pretty long distance. It seemed that he'd landed in front of somebody as well.

Rook stood opposite rook, and Jamie finally got a good look at the boy in front of him.
He was clad in the same manner of armor that Jamie wore, but with a few noticeable differences. The most striking detail was the snarling black mask that obscured the lower half of his face.

"Sup?" Jamie squeaked. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't just a liiiitle bit intimidated here. Everything about his opponent radiated confidence and power, from the boy's fierce eyes to the way he held himself. (He wasn't that bad looking, either...)
Jamie cleared his throat and tried to stand as tall as he could. He couldn't let some dude get the best of him, terrifyingly badass mask or no.
