Percival stared into the mirror of his and ... Wyatt's shared room. The velvety fabric of his shirt clung to his frame. Cool to the touch. It was still weird to think about his gaze flicking over to the boy's no longer destroyed bed. The other had moved in completely at this point, and it felt strange looking over and not seeing the rigid straightness of H..Tone's side. A part of him felt a tad bad that he had destroyed the other's bed when finding out what Tone had done. Though, in truth, he didn't hold himself too much accountable. It was all his fault anyways.

The boy straightened the cuff of his shirt carefully as he studied his appearance in the mirror. Time seemed to be passing at an alarming rate. He was already in his fourth year. Something that had seemed nonexistent to his young first-year self. Percival straightened his collar before he noticed something in the background behind him.

The plant sat upon a stack of books. Before it had always looked healthy and grew at an exponential rate. Now it was almost dead. Percival wasn't too sure why it was dying. Though, if he had to guess it had to have been something to do with Tone. Botany had never been his forte so why did he even have this plant? The boy frowned slightly before grabbing a cup of water and pouring it into the plant. Maybe it was thirsty. For attention. For love. It made sense at least to him, and a sour look overcame him. Percival placed the cup back down on the side table of his desk with a small sigh.

Percival moved about the room quickly in an attempt to get out faster. Grabbing his wand seemed almost reflex at this point. Only a first-year would not bring a wand to a ball. In truth, he felt like he was getting ready for battle, and based on what happened last time. It wasn't far-fetched. Percival grabbed his Locksmith's knife. Something that he had only recently obtained from Hogsmead. He wasn't even too sure if its claim of always being able to work was true or not. Though, he had been able to open a door with it so far. Percival stared at it for a second before fitting it in his back pocket, along with his usual items. With a sigh, the boy excited his room before making his way down to the courtyard.

The boy glanced about the courtyard as he looked for his date. At the thought, he felt a blush rise to his face at the realizing Ileen Knight was his date. No longer were they going together as friends...or as a bodyguard. This was something far more tangible and it brought a steady heat that grew from his cheeks to his ears. Percival swallowed thickly as he moved past those in the crowd. Knocking shoulders with multiple people, and finding little to no care in the matter. In truth, no one else really mattered. What mattered most was securing a dance with Ileen, and maybe even a small kiss. The thought was almost too much to imagine and the boy merely shook his head. Percival noticed Ileen off in the corner. He quickly moved towards her smiling as he did so. "Hey Ileen, sorry I meant to arrive before you did, but it seems you beat me here." he said with a grin. "You look lovely." he offered.

Let the lion fear not, for his lily had arrived.

After a bit of stress surrounding the fact that her boyfriend Aaron had not asked her to the ball yet, they hadn't settled on a theme, and she hadn't picked out a dress the weekend before the Fall Ball, the past week had come and gone and Aly Salinger had finally calmed down. Her (occasionally thickheaded, but mostly sweet) boyfriend had realized that perhaps he ought to ask her, they'd settled on a tale to represent (read: Aly had chosen it, and Aaron had told her about the Muggle version before agreeing on the original, because no matter how much Aly loved Muggle things, she would never go against the theme of a ball), and, finally, Aly had stress-written to her father Benjamin Salinger, who had surreptitiously headed over to Diagon Alley and found a golden dress to send to his daughter. Luckily, it had only needed a few alterations, but after this past summer, Aly was handy enough with a needle to do those herself - and the finished product, which shimmered gold even under the moonlight and glowed with a faint magical sunlight in talent far beyond what the fourteen-year-old Aly would have been able to do from scratch, fit her not half badly at all.

The tale of the Lily and the Lion, after all, told of a "dress as dazzling as the sun itself"... and Aly Salinger, at this moment, with her brilliant smile and the colour-changed-into-gold flowers tucked into her wildly curly hair, was the very definition of sunshine.

She was running slightly late to the meet time to which she and Aaron had originally agreed, but the pretty Ravenclaw waltzed (with as much grace and poise as her usually clumsy self could muster in low golden heels such as the ones she wore) into the courtyard in search of her date anyway. A lion should not be too hard to spot, right? But her green gaze was sidetracked by a feast table heaped high with foods and drink of all kinds; her stomach growled hungrily, reminding the fourth-year that she hadn't eaten since breakfast in frantic preparation for the ball (last-minute sewing, hair-wrangling, makeup-applying, etc.) ... so perhaps she should have a bite.

A tub of apples swirling about sat nearby, and Aly reached for one; an apple was light enough that it wouldn't come with a fear of overeating and becoming too full to dance, but it would resolve her hunger until after she'd had enough fun to sit down and have a proper meal. A pink one on the top caught her eye - she'd liked the colour quite a lot since this summer - and her slender fingers wrapped around it; she brought the apple to her mouth and bit into it with a crisp fall-like crunch, emerald eyes still scanning the courtyard for her date.

He had to be around here somewhere...

He raised a brow at the girl, smile sharpening as she took the apple. Bold. Everyone knew food at these things were a gamble.

With a halfhearted shrug and a roll of the eyes he waved the small girl off, “whatever you say snowflake.” He was used to people being freaked by Kitty, heck he was pretty sure even Kitty was beginning to learn the fine nuances of terrified shrieks and screams of happiness, she hadn’t jumped even jumped on those terrified 1st years at the opening ceremony! Not that knowing would stop her. She couldn’t be stopped. That was fact.

Not that this little snow queen to be needed to know that.

Just do us all a favor and land on something soft after that first bite, ok?” He teased, turning away with a laugh when her face warmed up. Guess she didn’t like the nickname. Or maybe she was the easily flustered type. “See ya around ice queen~” He called, snickering when she almost ran smack dab into someone else. Funny. But probably for the best they left anyway.

Elsian still had a mad queen to hunt and if the boy was being honest he was feeling a bit bad for the blackwebber clinging to his hip. Maybe he could find something new and exciting to keep the spider entertained while he looked for Logan. Something preferably out of the way, to maybe, just maybe avoiding a certain spider getting trigger happy and jumping on people's heads from above. “There has to be something for you here,” he said, plucking the swooning spider from her spot. Wouldn’t do to have people freak out.

Come on, you absolute miscreant.” He laughed, plopping the spider onto his shoulder to let her hide away as they moved back through the ball.

Oh, there were plenty of things here he was sure Kitty would absolutely love to be unleashed upon. But he could envision the backlash all too clearly. There would be panic. Screaming. It would be very funny. But he was above that! They both were! Kinda…for now. The fact was he wasn’t going to ruin the glass slipper and pile of shoes for some poor soul who just wanted a cool shot for a photo or to live out their fairy tale moment…

He ducked around a few ball goers, smiling when Kitty got excited over the fairies and barely stopping her from barreling straight into the pile of shoes as they passed. A glint of gold caught his eye, he looked up. The nest.

Now that nest with the golden eggs on the other hand…

He could ruin that with zero remorse.

Kitty wholeheartedly agreed with his choice. And hey…if anyone was stupid enough to try and steal one…well, that was the price of greed! Kitty, Kitty was the price. Good luck getting her to release the egg, let alone leave you be. Not without the right price at least.

Found your new hangout spot.” He offered cheerfully, happy to let the excitable spider wiggle out of his hand and skitter up the tree, a blur of untapped chaos. He could see her pause briefly near the plush, wary as she slowly crawled past it before disappearing out of sight. After a moment he could distinctively make out little legs, looking almost like twigs in the darkness, wrap around the top edge of one of the eggs.

Atta girl!

Give em hell.

Twisting on his heel he was all too happy to leave the spider to her newfound lair. It helped that it was also probably one of the easiest places for him to keep an eye on her compared to the rest of the ball. At least he could just look up towards the tree with the plush if he needed to rush over.

Briefly he got a glimpse of someone very familiar pop through the entrance. Feathers. So bloody short, he could only make out her head before she disappeared, damn shorty. Probably going to- he eyed the area; BUBBA! Gasp! Her boyfriend. Little feathers was going to see her date! Before she even let him see her outfit! An outrage. A true outrage.

He would need to hunt her down in a bit. Claim his rightful place as the embarrassment of the night in front of her crush and make annoying demands for pictures that she would later on thank him for. Probably…maybe…so long as he didn’t let her see any blackmail pictures he took. Elsian could only hope she tripped and freaked out when her date caught her, the picture would be amazing.

He’d never let her live down the embarrassment.

But not yet. Focus! He had to focus and at least try to find Logan first.

Elsian thought he saw a certain nemesis of his, looking oddly…purple, wandering near another familiar face. But who knew for sure. Possibly an annoying old roommate amongst a few others but he was quick to turn away from them too as he dipped through the beginning of a dance, quick to bow out with a laugh and shake of the head. Dancing now would make him a sitting duck! Sure to be an easy target to be picked out. In the distance he could spot a certain Gryffindor- Hotshot! Part of him heeded the need to stay away but the other stupider part of him nudged to get Kitty and go over there for a friendly hello~

He wondered if he could get a picture of Kitty on Elenas shoulder just as the older Gryffindor realized it was Kitty. Later! Later. Hnnn-

But still, no Queenie.

Unless-

Hogwarts balls were the kind of thing that Yefim never expected to become a regular thing in his life, but Hexwizard would see that his lifetime school rivalry would continue. Mostly they were just a playground for him, excessive bodily harm aside. There were so many people gathered that it was impossible for the teachers to supervise properly, so one could get away with nearly anything if they got out of dodge quickly enough. Fond were his memories of an army of chocolate frogs, or getting to spit in Howard White's face in front of everyone. No matter what, he was going to find the fun and let off some steam.

Entertainingly for him, the newer waitlisted dragon baby had asked him for a ride into the ball, seeing as he was dressed up in a pair of costume wings to try to portray the Jabberwock. Hanya and Cici* had suggested this muggle fairy tale... Looking Glass? It was some thing about mirrors, but after asking a bit he finally found the character that best fit him, the dragon-y one! He was more than happy to hitch Amina up onto his back and prance around like his favorite magical creature, being sure to imitate some roars and run really fast with his arms out... even though he had the wings on the back... what mattered was that he was enjoying himself.

Once they got into the ball, it was the same as it always was, though at least this one was mostly outside. The chilly weather of autumn suited him much better than the awful London heat over summer, he was built and grown in Siberia, and therefore was far more acclimated to it. He would released Amina from her mount in order to allow her to find this date of hers. Yefim didn't think much on it-- dates that is-- as having the Horntails flying around and causing chaos was far more entertaining than any date could be.

Of course, many curious people had asked Yefim about the meaning of him choosing Erin Ryan for his special person. Not only was she a Hogwarts student, but they had also exchanged little more than a few sentences with each other. Not that he owed anyone an explanation, but to put it simply, special person did not mean the same thing to him as it did to others. Erin was special, he could tell from the first moment she punched him in the face and knocked him unconscious. After that, she even came to fight the Hufflepuffs after he had lost that battle too. She was gorgeous, undeniably, but that was not special. Anyone could be gorgeous with enough effort, but it was rare to find someone so bold and powerful. In a way, listing her had tied her to him, and eventually she would have to spend more time with him. Clearly then she would see how amazing he was and fold naturally into the horde. Indeed, he wanted her to join his army. How romantic.

Pulled in several possible directions, Yefim was paralyzed with indecision. There was Mik in the corner being a wallflower as usual, and there was naturally a pull to go and keep him company. However, Valya seemed to take up that torch. There was the petting zoo, which called to him powerfully given his love of magical creatures, but then he would not get the chance to pummel any Hogsnots. He could attempt to find and court Erin, but then he might not be able to keep an eye on his dragon babies and help protect them. What to do... he spent a bit too much time thinking, but luckily his foreboding aura and obtrusive costume allowed him a bubble of personal space. Perhaps a few people there knew his reputation already, and were hoping to avoid his inevitable cutting wave of destruction.

Seeing most of the Horntails settle in with their own interests, he decided to flock to Erin. He would look around through the crowd, thick with shrimps. He would shove anyone aside who was unfortunate enough to be where he wanted to walk and not paying attention. Even a little first year would be pushed aside roughly, no care given to the amount of strength put into it. They were all ants, after all, so he couldn't care less about whether they got hurt.

Talking and blushing
Samantha was unsure whether her date's loss of words was a good or a bad thing and nervously waited for him to say something. The two blushing students stood quietly in front of each other for a few seconds. A huge wave of relief and pride hit her when Bubba told her she looked stunning with a nervous smile. Her outfit choice hadn't been too much, he liked it! Usually, the brunette wasn't too keen on the focus being on her appearance, as she never considered it to be her strong suit, but now she was extremely happy with the boy's compliment.

Overjoyed by the boy's charming deed, she gently took the flower from his hand. "Thank you!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around him. After giving her date a quick hug as thank you, she turned her attention back to the flower, mesmerized by its beauty. "It's perfect," she told Bubba while examining the amazing color of the flower. The idea that the gift would lose its grace one day, saddened her a lot. "I hope it will always stay this pretty!" Wouldn't it be great if she could keep the flower forever? She would place it on her nightstand so she could look at it every day!

It was just one flower but it was the most romantic thing anybody had ever done for her and she would treasure it as long as she could. Bubba was very charming, it was one of the many things she liked about the boy. He always made her laugh and she was even drawn to his mischievous nature, which was a surprise to the young girl as she always carefully followed the rules. "I am so happy you are my date!" she shared with childlike enthusiasm. There was absolutely nobody in the world she would rather have gone to the ball with than Bubba. "I have a beautiful flower and a beautiful date," she smiled at him proudly, feeling like the luckiest girl at the ball.

"Do you want to dance? Like not right now but maybe somewhere tonight! My dad taught me some very cool disco dance moves, I could show you them and then you can learn them too!" she offered. "Also, I didn't get anything for you," her rambling started. Her usual talkative self mixed with the nervous feelings she had, caused Samantha to talk twice as fast as normal. "You got me this pretty flower," she twirled the flower in her hand, "and I came empty-handed!" Very disappointed in herself, she looked up, into Bubba's brown eyes. "I am sorry," she apologized. "I have never really been on a date and I didn't know I should have taken something. Next time I will!" she promised, automatically assuming there would be a next time. Maybe she could ask her sister for advice next time, the older girl had gone on a ton of dates already so she would surely know something!

With a graceful dismount Amina patted Yeffy on the shoulder and stepped into the Courtyard taking in the scenery and turning around like a ballerina in awe. ”W o w. This is amazing” Her comment was for no one in particular - not that anyone was with her anymore anyway since her dragon had already strolled away. She happily pushed her way into the crowd, looking around for a familiar face. She couldn't spot her date anywhere - but one with a similarly enthusiastic expression on his face: Felix.
Amina gave him a smirk and had already opened her mouth to provide one of her teasing remarks, but the blond boy was quicker - sticking his ellbow in her ribs.
She liked him very much. He was always so cute and snarky - and she could pick on him and tease him. Overall, she found his grumpy nature a challenge and when he did open his mouth, usually something came out that made her laugh. She always had a good time with him. Even if it was on his costs.
So she followed him without protest and shut her mouth obediently. Her steps were springy and she quickly closed in on him, returning his cheeky grin. "Hey, I saw you smiling! Are you having fun? That would be something new." Her Russian was completely accent-free despite her long stay in the US, and her eyes twinkled with amusement.

Speaking of the US. Apparently Felix was planning to cause trouble - of course, why else would he have been happy? His target was one of her former school mates. She recognized the face - the boy was two years younger than her. They knew each other by sight, nothing more. He just had her around in his first year.
But that wouldn't stop her from playing along. Such things were fun. But she still needed to find the other boy to put some things in motion. After short consideration she decided to join in and then look for her date. If he came at all anyway.
When Felix approached Stephen, she had to suppress a giggle and immediately put on an indignant expression. With her arms crossed, she built herself up to her full height and glared angrily at the American.
"Aha. So all your talk about wanting to use tonight so we could spend time together again after so long apart was a lie?" Her English was so clearly american that there could be no doubt in anyone's mind that she had actually lived there. She watched his reactions with interest, looking for a sign of recognition. Her heart leapt with excitement. Felix was a grumpy dude but he had funny ideas.
With a very not lady-like snort, she turned to the girl to whom their target had just pledged his loyalty. "What does she have that I don't have? And you, I would think very carefully about. A date on each finger. Unbelievable!"
She turned to her partner in crime. "And I couldn't believe you asked Felix, too. I mean - hello??? But now it makes sense, you're trying to balance quality with quantity." She nodded in understanding and swallowed with effort the laughter that threatened to bubble out of her.
Amina wouldn't hold it against anyone who played such tricks with her. So she assumed that others felt the same way. A close observer would see the corners of her mouth twitch.

Kayla was suprised when she heard Rita's voice.
"Hey, Riri! I'm okay! Super excited!" Kayla said with a smile, she blushed a bit as Rita commented on how she looked. "Thanks, Riri, you look awesome too! My dance partner..?" Kayla pondered this for a moment, she hadn't really planned dancing with Nico, would he not dance with her? Would he ask to dance with her? Does it matter? Sure it does, she couldn't just wonder around; it was a ball, dancing was somewhat compulsory. Anyway, she didn't need to worry at the moment, she just had to wait.
Not realising she was deep in thought, she snapped back to reality.
"Ah, sorry, Rita -Riri- just thinking- enjoy the dance!" Kayla added, as Rita went off with a blonde girl, who, as Rita said, was her dance partner.
"I can't just stand here," she thought, looking around to see if Nico had arrived yet, seeing he hadn't, Kayla sighed. She was the one supposed to be late, as she usually was.
"Five minutes, Kayla. Five minutes."
Kayla stood on her place for about thrity seconds.
"Oh, one, two, three, four, five- five minutes!" with one more impatient look at the entrance, she smoothed down her dress, and started walking, deciding that if he arrived, he'd find her. Kayla was recognisable.

Tesla was so excited to see Rita, and she easily accepted the enthuiastic hug, admiring Rita's pale blue dress. "You look just like a princess! I love that dress! I don't really know how to dance, but I think a waltz sounds great! It can't be too hard can it?" Tesla waved goodbye to the people Rita had been talking with and skipped with her over to where people were dancing.

She followed Rita's lead and did her best to dance in an elegant waltz like she'd seen people do in pictures and old muggle movies, and while she occasionally stepped on Rita's toes or swayed out of time with the fantastical music drifting around them, Tesla was still having a fantastic time. She was grinning from ear to ear, and as soon as she felt she could stop looking at her feet and she wouldn't bruise Rita's toes anymore than they maybe already were, she looked up at the lights overhead. She spied some more decorations, including some fake ravens, and the twinkling fairy lights were almost drowned out by the moon that was even now drawing her in and sapping her energy. As she went to look back down at Rita to chat for a bit, she noticed something flitting about... they were actually fairies! Tesla picked up one of her hands to point at it, fluttering overhead. "Look! Fairies! They must've been attracted by the party!" Tesla laughed with delight, eyes sparkling in wonder.

As they danced Tesla started to feel her stomach rumble, until finally she paused for a moment to ask, "Do you maybe want to go find some food? We can come back to dancing after, but I'm getting hungry!"

Jake was just a little embarrassed about his costume for the ball.

In fact, it was enough to give him second thoughts about walking in, stopping by the courtyard entrance. Jake seemed to feel self-conscious about a lot lately, sometimes a nagging doubt in the back of his head, and sometimes something much stronger. Maybe that meant he was growing up.

But George and Alan were little mermaid characters too, right? And it seemed like when people saw Jake as a little mermaid character there was only one choice. In yellow and blue, and with his face painted, he made quite the Flounder. As the smallest of his friend group, and with his voice still unchanged, it seemed a natural fit. It had been George's choice, and George had made his costume. The Flounder, to their Ariel and Ursula (Because George thought too many were going to be princes, and well, that would just be too normal for george.) Of course, that would actually make him Alan's best friend, since Alan had been Ariel. Flounder and Ursula would make a weird team....If George was Ursula, he would be supposed to be an eel, he supposed, and then who would be the other eel? He didn't think George had put that much thought into it though.

But when George had helped him out and done his face up to look like Flounder, it had brought back old memories. After last summer it had felt nice to just be normal again, and forget about his worries. It DID look really good, and Jake had always loved dressing up as his favorite characters or animals. George had gotten even better at making the costume too, and had done quite a good job with the smaller Hufflepuff. When he saw how George had made him up, he couldn't help but smile.

That was of course, before he had arrived at the ball. It was easy to feel good about it before you had to go out in front of a whole bunch of people. At the time, his second thoughts had gone away quickly (George had a way of making that happen with just words, and could make a lot of things seem like a good idea). But now they had come back with a vengeance. If Jake wanted people to take him more seriously (which he was finding out more and more that they didn't) maybe he needed to do things that made him LOOK less like a child. Though Alan was Ariel, and of course Jake was going to look like a kid next to Alan. There was no shame in that was there? He just didn't want to get laughed at. Flounder was a nervous little fish, but maybe Jake didn't want people to think he was a nervous little fish.

He WAS growing. He was only a few inches away from 5 feet now, and he was determined to get there by the end of the year (He had read about what could happen if you used engorgio on a person, so he hadn't tried anything desperate, but it WAS still a little tempting). For the first time he looked like he belonged at Hogwarts... even if it was as a first year. It was still better than before....and because of his prefect badge people didn't make that mistake so much. Still, even though they had made up, George's words at the end of the year before hadn't totally left Jake's mind, and even though you'd think he'd know practically everybody at Hogwarts by now there were still people who seemed surprised when they found out how old he was. Maybe if he looked like a kid, it meant he had to try even harder not to act like it. Or maybe it was the way he dressed. Maybe it was time to say no to kiddy costumes, and yes to cooler ones. Maybe he shouldn't let people see him as a Flounder. Who was to say he couldn't be King Triton or something? (Ok, being Alan's dad would be even weirder, and no WAY he was going to take his shirt off, but that was all beside the point.)

Jake had almost thought about turning around, but he'd already told the others he'd go. And besides, there was ACTUALLY going to be a magical creature petting zoo this time, George had already spent all that time working on his face, and lastly, Jake was a Hufflepuff prefect so he HAD to go. If anything went wrong he was going to need to be there (Even though, nervously, he wasn't actually sure he'd be able to do anything at all). He was going to be on the dueling team this year...nobody couldn't take THAT seriously, right? And he DID kinda like his costume too, at the same time that he didn't. It was confusing. But eventually he took a deep breath and entered the ball.

It was hard to find ANYBODY in the crowd, but luckily George wasn't just anybody. The boy practically shone like a purple lighthouse, though it took a while for Jake to politely made his way through the crowd to find him.

"Hi George! Hi Alan!" Jake said, greeting his friends with a grin. Alan would get a small hug (a habit that was hard to break), and George a friendly touch on the arm in greeting. Jake fidgeted a little, still feeling a bit worried of looking silly next to them, but at the sight of how good THEIR costumes were, it was impossible not to smile. And he was happy to be included too. They'd been talking to each other a lot lately it felt like. It didn't stop him from giving a couple looks around to make sure not too many people were looking, but they would make a good group. Then he was surprised to see there was another smaller boy with them too.

"Er, hi," Jake said, giving a small wave to the other boy, who he didn't know, before looking back up at the others. "You know when I was walking here I heard there's an actual unicorn?" They WOULD be going to the petting zoo before the end of the night.

"One more look in the mirror, and I think I'll die. This cape is not comfortable. It's too heavy."
He looked in the mirror of the bathroom. "Ugh! Screw this, I'm just going to go find Kayla. I don't care what my hair is doing!"
The empty corridors seemed out of place in the usually crowded castle. As he walked towards the courtyard, thoughts keep racing through his mind, "What if she thinks I look stupid? Well... She always does, what's the difference now? What if I lose something? I'd never be able to find it!"
Nico froze, that could happen. If he lost the ring again he would probably die on the spot. He took the chain off from around his neck and unclasped it. He slid his few rings onto the silver chain with a clink! Now they couldn't get lost. He put it back around his neck and kept walking until he reached the destination of pure anxiety.
There were people. Everywhere. Taking a deep breath, he walked into the chaos.
Nico didn't know exactly what to be looking for, he didn't know she was even there yet. But then he heard her voice, it was faint, but he heard it. She was talking to someone. As he followed her faint voice there was a lot of, "Excuse me... Sorry! Coming through... Pardon me, miss."
Yet, upon finding a small clearing of maybe three feet, Nico could no longer hear Kayla. "Great... I honestly bet it was in my head..."
Moving through another wave of students, he found a bench and sat down. People are not Nico's specialty, they're always in the way of everything.
"If I don't find her in the next five minutes, I'm going back to my dorm..." But then, just like magic, he saw her. Perhaps thinking negatively helps you find positivity.
Nico grinned, it wasn't evil, nor plotting, it was... happy?
He strolled up behind her, and whispered, "Good evening, Your Highness."
