Charlotte kept glancing around the room, trying to get a sense of the atmosphere. First and foremost, she was intimidated. Waiting in the long line, she felt suspiciously like a lamb on it's way to the slaughter. She fiddled with the sleeve on her robe before straightening up as the hat cried out its current victim's house. Ravenclaw, just like the last one and just like her parents.
Her hands started to shake as she realized that now was the time, her proverbial slaughter. Charlotte held her head high and slapped a smile on her face as she walked to the chair. She halfheartedly wondered if it was the same chair that her Grandmother sat on 50 or so years ago, how had she felt about the humiliating experience of having her deepest thoughts and desires read out to her. Charlotte never had gotten around to asking her that. She was knocked out of her thoughts as she sat down and had the ratty hat placed upon her head.
"It's been quite some time since I've seen a Wardle in these parts, planning on keeping the Ravenclaw tradition?"
Lottie chewed on her lip as she nodded, 'I'm not sure they want me there though, I'm not all that smart.'
The sorting hat chuckled "You have intelligence. Not in the same way your parents do, but it is still there. Your determination and temper may land you in Slytherin."
She felt her face heat up and her heart race. 'Slytherin would eat me alive! I have to prove myself to my parents!'
"Ah, very well. I believe you will see your full potential in RAVENCLAW!"
Lottie let out a breath that she must have held the entire time. The roar of her new house flooded her ears as she made her way to the Ravenclaw table. She was grinning ear to ear, praying the hat was right about her intelligence and hoping that she could keep up with her house.

Theo let her eyes roam around the dim yet surprisingly well lit room, taking in not only the scenery but the other students, some already at their house tables, others-like her, waiting to be sorted. he had spent the majority of her life learning about this place, admiring the photos of what could be described as nothing less than a castle but nothing could compare to seeing it in person. It was easy to tell which students had never seen magic before; she found their looks of total shock and amazement beyond pathetic, it made her upset that those associated with the Muggle world were allowed at a school for wizards.
'They ruin everything they touch... She thought to herself, looking back to the student being sorted.
She let the anger distract her mind from the feeling her and what she assumed every other student her age was feeling. The nervousness and fear. What would her parents think if the Sorting Hat didn't say Slytherin? She couldn't be the first person in her bloodline to break the tradition; they'd never forgive her. Her mother had always said she was so different from the rest of them, just like her older brother, they were the only two peas in a pod. But even he had been put into Slytherin so she knew there was hope for her.
"Theodosia Woodwuerf." The Professor who had been leading the ceremony called, pulling her from her state of anger and anxiety.
She quickly stood up, putting on a cocky smile to hide the fear that was building up in her stomach. Each step felt as if she were trying to avoid snakes, she calculated them with exact precision but continued to pretend to be as cool and confident as ever. Upon making it to the stool she sat down, gripping the edge with one hand. She could hear her heartbeat in her ears as the hat was placed upon her head and her breathing grew shallow. She couldn't decide which was worse being sorted to the wrong house or fainting in front of all of these people, embarrassing herself and her name.
"Look who we have: another Woodwuerf. You aren't like your parents though, you know that. You're very intelligent and you strive to know much more...maybe Ravenclaw would be a good fit.
'No! You can't say that; it has to be Slytherin!' She practically screamed her thoughts at the hat, shutting her eyes tight.
"You are ambitious and you know how to get your way, no matter what it takes: true to Slytherin nature. But you think with you heart, often putting yourself on the line for others, very brave like the Gryffindors..... Their were a few moments of silence, to Theo it seemed like hours, waiting for it to ruin the rest of her life and then, "Slytherin!!"
A wave of relief rushed through the girl and the moment the hat was removed from her head she rushed to get up, the chair wobbling and almost tipping over. She made her way over to the Slytherin table, making sure to walk faster than before. Despite everything, she had always loved the color green.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past

Mikale stood near the center of the line, waiting like all the rest. He didn't know which house he wanted, but he did know whichever he landed in he would do what was needed to make a difference in the world. He still didn't know what that difference was going to be, but that wouldn't stop him. He ran his hand through his short brown hair while waiting for his turn. His mind wandered to his little sister at home, and he found himself wishing she were there to see his sorting. Shaking his head to clear the odd thought, he tried to remind himself he was happy to be away from home. Now he could actual make friends and have real fun.

"Mikale Norster!" His name was called. Smiling, the boy stepped forward easily. He wasn't afraid, though he was a bit anxious to discover just who his new family would be. He glanced around the Great Hall as he approached the stool. Everyone was a potential friend. Everyone was someone who could potentially help him reach his goals.

Sitting down on the stool, Mikale took a deep breath as the Sorting Hat slipped over his eyes, turning the world dark. "Ahhh, an ambitious one. Slytherins are ambitious. But I see more in you. You have great potential, and those you're around will help shape you. Brave and smart, too. You'll find the best influence in GRYFFINDOR!"

As the hat was lifted from Mikale's head, he blinked at the sudden light before standing and heading towards the Gryffindor table, wondering what exactly the hat had meant.

Lancelot Channing tapped his fingernails impatiently on the table, his heart beating with nervousness. The people around him chatted excitably, and Lancelot would be socializing as well, but he felt too anxious to know what house he'd be in. He didn't know why, really. He didn't imagine that he'd feel so tense when the time came. All of the houses were great, and being a wizard in Hogwarts was an opportunity in itself, but what would happen after his house was chosen? What if people didn't like him? What if he failed in one of his classes? What if he let down his family and friends? No, stop, that won't happen. Stop talking to yourself internally, Lance. Taking a deep, shaky breath, Lancelot sat up straighter and ran his fingers through his thick black hair, combing it to the side. Everything will be fine. All the other kids survived, so will you. Swallowing thickly, he looked towards the sorting hat, where someone sat daintily as it declared their house. "GRYFFINDOR!" Another Gryffindor? There sure are a lot this year. Lancelot sighed casually, waiting for his turn apprehensively. After a few more people went, he heard his name announced loudly, and he nearly jumped out of his seat. "LANCELOT CHANNING!" Standing up abruptly, Lancelot stumbled out of his chair before taking a moment to straighten himself and his thoughts. Feeling the eyes of the other students falling onto him, he suddenly felt a rush of exhilaration and determination. Not once breaking his stride, he confidently walked up to the stool of which he was required to sit at. He couldn't help the deep disquiet that made him feel sick to his stomach, though. Inhaling reassuringly, he glanced at the stool and sat down eagerly. The sorting hat was placed gently on his head, and he hoped desperately that his hair wouldn't be messed up. You worry too much about appearance, a voice sounded in his head, startling him slightly. His sister Katharos had told him about this, but he had forgotten until now. Being presentable is almost as important as being successful, Lancelot retorted. Ah, is it really though? Lancelot didn't exactly reply after that, merely chewing his lip, his thoughts focused. He didn't really like the idea of the sorting hat going through his head. Hmm, very ambitious... driven, arrogant, but also trustworthy and sociable... and what's this? Anxiety? You're an interesting one, that's for sure. But you've gotta work on that self-doubt if you want to be like your sister. Lancelot growled slightly to himself. Oh come on, Katharos must have been at least a bit nervous, right? Well, don't take my word for it, but I would recommend asking her that yourself. There was a pause for a moment, and Lance frowned. He came to figure out what his house was, not a for pep talk. Ah, you have a good heart Mister Channing, and your thirst for knowledge will surely fit well in this house... yes, yes, I believe I have decided. Lancelot could feel his heart leap with anticipation as the sorting hat made up its mind on where he would live the next few years of his life. What would it be? He'd really be okay with any of them, and he had no idea which one he'd fit. So this was rather exciting. "SLYTHERIN!" Letting out a relieved sigh, Lancelot opened his eyes and, smiling genuinely to himself, stood up once the hat was taken off of his head. Slytherin. What a house it was. He was slightly hoping he would get into Ravenclaw like his sister, but he was definitely satisfied with Slytherin. Not to mention, green was one of his favorite colors. Grinning widely, he let out a small laugh to himself, striding over to the Slytherin table assertively. This would be an adventure indeed.

It was after many arguments that Mekkyaku eventually relented to their father, Charon, and his wish to send his daughters to Hogwarts. Though the Mahoutokoro School of Magic had sought to recruit the two daughters of the esteemed Rikudou, and the Ostrega duo had trained rigorously for it, Charon opted for a more traditional schooling route for Hydra and Lyra. It was likely that he wanted to continue the Ostrega legacy within Slytherin, a legacy which had not been seen in some odd years; he was eager, vainly so, to send his prodigal daughters to Hogwarts, to see and hear of their success upon his, as he put it, 'own soil'.

Amekaze knew that wherever her daughters went, greatness would follow.

One after the other, students rifled off automatically. When their names were called, the hat lingered upon their head for a time, and it decided. The garment looked stiff and drab, and Hydra could not help but press her fingertips against her scalp. At once she desisted and resumed her neat and poised posture; she certainly did not want the gesture to be perceived as anything akin to self-consciousness. No, she had revealed distaste with what she would soon be called to do... but it would be one of many necessary evils in this life, she supposed...

Her name was roared, and Hydra strode toward the chair. If she was at all nervous, she did not look it. She had been taught decorum and elegance, and horribly, in this hall of many people, it was not that hard to pull off. Truth be told, it all had to do with the way in which she was raised. The din of their surroundings was most bothersome, and Hydra was simply ready to meet likeminded peers.

She need not fear that she and Lyra were just that, and as she looked to her sister, and responded rapidfire to the hat and its inquisition of her temperaments, it bellowed: "SLYTHERIN!"

There was no recognizable smile upon her features, but her twin would know her expression for exactly what it was.

Matilda couldn’t contain her exicement anymore, a wide grin forcing her slightly rosy cheeks into a slightly elevated position. Her deep ocean blue eyes flitted amongst the other faces that filled the Great Hall and she listened to the excited chatter of the other Hogwarts students, each of them waiting for the same thing; the Sorting Hat.

The first years were seated in any free seats and Tilly had taken a seat that was nearer the front so that she could watch what was happening on the slightly raised platform at the front of the hall. She looked over each of the people, who she assumed to be teachers, before resting her eyes on the sorting hat that was position front and centre. Her father, Andrew, had told her all about the sharp-tongued hat and how he could read any thought that was in your head - and Tilly instantly cleared her mind of any bad thoughts of the school, afraid of what the hat may think of her.

She waited patiently for her name to be called, clapping along with the other students when they had their turns and offering grins and congratulations to any happy first years that passed her. And then it was her turn:

”Matilda Wainwright!” called a teacher from the front, her gaze moving out across the students as they fell into a hush. Tilly moved her small frame from the seat and made her way to the front, replacing her old seat with the one that was positioned under the sorting hat.

The hat seemed to clear it’s throat, wherever that may be, before speaking: ”Ah, a Wainwright. Your father remembers this school well. You are very much like him.” Surprisingly, Tilly felt no fear when the hat spoke and instead, seemed rather proud. ”You are a difficult one I must admit, you have many traits of a Ravenclaw, but some of a Slytherin too.. but it’s clear which house you belong in Miss. Wainwright...” Her breath hitched before the hat bellowed out for the whole hall to hear: ”GRYFFINDOR!”

Tilly couldn’t help herself but grin, maybe too widely, as she made her way to the Gryffindor table amongst the applause and cheers of the other students - she was home.

Jason shivered as names started being called. His body was so tense that he swore his muscles would soon snap like rubber bands. Oh what a joy that would be! How could he walk over to the foreboding, terrifying stool if his muscles had torn in two? Of course, he would be paralyzed, but wasn't he already? Perhaps when they did call his name he wouldn't be able to move anyway. What if he tripped on his ill fitting robe as he walked over to the sorting hat? How would that affect his reputation? His house?! Oh, he'd be laughed out of the school. The hat wouldn't even put him in a house! He'd be put straight into the janitorial staff, surely! His mother would be so upset she would cry! His father would be so furious he'd be disowned! Oh what a helpless situation this was! With a huff of acceptance, he decided he would start running after he counted down from three, completely freeing himself from this terrifying situation. Three... Two...--

"Jason Wilhelm." A teacher called from the front of the room.

A few eyes looked over to the shaking boy, and the unsorted table went silent. He pushed on the table to get himself on two feet, then made a few shaky steps toward the stool. As if by some miracle, he made it there in once piece. The terrible hat was placed onto his head, and he couldn't help but curse the unholy thing as he felt it, shutting his eyes tight.

"Oh, well you don't have to be rude!" The hat grumbled out, causing Jason to widen his eyes and freeze that way.

"S--...Sorry." Jason managed to whimper out.

"Well, Mr. Wilhelm. I do recall your mother attending here, a Gryffindor, though she might have done just as well in Hufflepuff, correct?"

Jason nodded vehemently. The sorting hat did not seem pleased with being tossed about.

"Your father, however, I do not remember."

"H--... He's f--.. He's fr--..." Jason stammered.

"Ilvermorny, I see. A Horned Serpent."

He nodded again, softer this time.

"Well, I do see a lot of willpower. It is willpower from an outside source, but much willpower nonetheless. What I do see a lot of as well is fear."

Jason's eyes widened yet again. Would his fear be his downfall?

"But fear that you've overcome. You are sitting here, yes? Your legs didn't give out part way."

Jason felt a tightness in his chest release before he even knew it was there.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

The Gryffindor table cheered and Jason smiled for the first time that day, very glad that his muscles didn't give up like he nearly did.

Louisa glanced around the room in wonder, tucking her hands into the sleeves of her black robes. She loved how easily she could tune out the bustle of her fellow students, just to focus on the hundreds of hovering yellow candles dotted around the space above her. The ceiling itself may have well been invisible, the night sky decorated daintily with the many stars above them, a few clouds gently floating past, blown by an unfelt breeze. Four long tables stretched the length of the hall, the benches filled with black cloaked students cheerfully greeting one another after the long summer. Louisa smiled - she hoped that that could be her one day. Hogwarts certainly seemed to be proving itself to be a much better experience than any Muggle school at home.

Her eyes widened as the tattered old wizard's hat opened its mouth to sing its grand song, a smile settling on her lips in both amazement and amusement. A hat singing a song? Louisa had a feeling that this was only the start of her magical discovery.

It wasn't long after that that the professor called out her name - naturally, having a last name closer towards the start of the alphabet, it was hardly an experience that Louisa was unused to. She stepped up to the stool somewhat nervously, the same butterflies returning to her stomach as those that had appeared when the train had left King's Cross Station. She swallowed down the lump in her throat as the hat settled on her head.

"Hello?" she thought, after a moment of silence. She jumped as the hat hummed in response, almost thoughtful in its tone.

"My, this is interesting," the hat rumbled wistfully. Louisa cocked her head in slight confusion. "A sense a great sense of pride in this one, yes. Your father was a great man, wasn't he, hm?"

Louisa's back straightened. "My father was a wonderful man," she corrected with the slightest of frowns. The young girl did not appreciate the hat's intrusion into her most personal memories.

"Not to worry, my dear," reassured the hat. "I am merely trying the conclude the house that would best suit you. Gryffindor is certainly an option, yes. But, then again, Ravenclaw would also be a good fit. I sense fine wisdom in you - Ravenclaw would certainly help to tune that."

Swinging her legs in the air, Louisa waited patiently as the hat pondered for another minute or so. She jumped as the hat suddenly spoke again, its voice much louder than it had been before. "Eager to learn, the journey for knowledge, yes, I know exactly where to place you, Miss Bennett." Louisa strained her ears in excitement. "RAVENCLAW!"

As the Ravenclaw table erupted into clapping and cheering, the hat was lifted from Louisa's head and she practically skipped over to the table, sliding onto the wooden bench with a happiness she could not remember experiencing in a long time. A grin stretched across her young face at the smiling students surrounding her, that sense of belonging finally beginning to settle.

Eira's fingers were trembling with nervousment. She look down at her feet as little by little she would shuffle them ahead as she hear shouts of the sorting hat calling out the names of houses. "Slytherin! ....Gryffindor!  ....Gryffindor! ... Ravenclaw!" By the time her name was called out, she looked up to see the sorting hat. She didn't even realize there were candles floating above her as one caught her attention in the air atop of the hat. She was stuck in a daze, but its not like she hasn't seen magic before it was just different than how her home was. Everything around her gave off a magicall majestic feeling. It is a castel compare to a stone brick house in a big town! She grew up only seeing her parents every now and then since they were away most of the time doing business with the Minsitry of Magic. They were Ravenclaws afterall.

Before she knew it, her name was called out once more, "Eira Carnarvan".

"Y-yes", she replied stepping towards the hat.

She turned around and sat down on a nicely carven wooden stool. There, she faces all the students who were sectioned off by the color of their cloaks red, yellow, blue, and green. She hasn't been in a room where there were so many people all turn their attenshion to her. She felt embarassed. "Hmm...   yes... embarassed are you?." The sorting hat was already ontop of her head without her relization. "I can sense you have great potential in patience and yearn for loyalty yet value in knowledge and acceptance. Friends you'll soon meet and enemies to be made  .... HUFFLEPUFF!".

Eira was surprise. Her eyes widen a tad bit. She couldn't believe she, herself, is a Hufflepuff. Whereas, her parents were Ravenclaws. Somehow deep down she let out a breath of relief, and smiled. She got off her stool and started to walk over to the Hufflpuff's table were everybody clapped and cheered for her.

Adam couldn't keep himself from bouncing up and down in line as he waited to be sorted with the rest of his class. His last name would put him towards the middle of the alphabetically-ordered list, and he wasn't sure if this was a blessing or a curse. It certainly ensured a few added moments of torture for the students around him. He carefully avoided their feet as he hopped back and forth, apologizing to the girl behind him for the second time. She nodded absentmindedly and returned her gaze to the Sorting Hat.

Oh yeah! Adam had almost forgotten about the strange, lyrical, enchanted wizard's hat that assigned students to their houses and really the rest of their lives. Adam never cared much for the song. It was nice and all, but he knew he'd forget it just moments after hearing it. He watched a few people go up to the stool the Hat reigned over and get Sorted respectively; a Gryffindor, a Slytherin, two Hufflepuffs. Adam could say with all honestly that he didn't know which house he wanted to end up in. Dean, his older brother, had been a proud Gryffindor. Naturally, Adam had heard lots of poor things about Slytherin from around the house, but his mother had always reminded him to keep an open mind. He looked out at the sea of colors that decorated the tables: Slytherin in its poison green, Hufflepuff in a courageous shade of yellow, Gryffindor in dashing red, and Ravenclaw in a wise, knowing blue.

Adam hopped a bit too far forwards and braced himself for a glare form the person in front of him, but when it didn't come, he looked over in surprise. Adam gulped. No one had complained about him because there was no one left in front of him. Adam was up next! He watched the boy in front of him get sorted into Slytherin after a moment's pause, and when one of the professors called out "Harringtom, Adam!" in a commanding voice, he slunk forward nervously. The Sorting Hat slid over his eyes and he laughed a little bit. How funny he must look!

So, you've got a sense of humor, have you? That's always good to know. Adam was momentarily shocked to find another voice in his head, and then remembered: the Hat!

Yes, yes, child. I'm here. The real question is, where will you be? Adam wasn't sure if he should answer or not. Would he sound foolish?

Let's see, let's see... mused the Sorting Hat, quite a lot running through this mind. You're sociable, that's good. Quite the competitive spirit in you, too. I recognize the name; I suppose you got that from your brother Dean, eh, Adam? Adam couldn't help but laugh and nod. How much time had passed? Was this normal for a Sorting?

The Hat continued to talk to itself in Adam's mind, examining his thoughts, habits, and personality. Adam tried to clear his mind and give the Hat enough room to work. Finally, after what seemed like an hour, the Hat spoke up again. Well....yes. Yes, that'll do. The best place for you, Adam Harringtom, must be...

"RAVENCLAW!" The Great Hall erupted into cheers and Adam realized that the last word had been spoken aloud. He slid the Hat off and saw that the Ravenclaw table had risen to their feet and were waving him over. He jogged happily off the podium in the front of the room and joined his housemates, laughing and smiling gratefully as people patted him on the back and welcomed him. Amazed and overjoyed, Adam watched the rest of his class join their proper houses. Ravenclaw. What a place to end up in. He wondered what Dean would think once he heard.

He wondered just what Ravenclaw house would bring for the next seven years.
