Elia was nervous. Everyone of her father's side of the family was in Ravenclaw! They all expected her to go there. She expected to as well.

"Daimon Amelia!"

Elia groaned inwardly. They where calling kids by last names. W was one of the last letters. Elia scuffed her heel into the floor.
On and on. The list seemed so long. Elia looked over at the other students, a couple girls where giggling and whispering. They looked over at her when they caught her staring before hushing up. Elia looked back at the Sorting hat.

"Kaines Felix!"

Halfway through. Elia shivered as she felt eyes on her. She assumed it was just cold in the hall. Speaking of the hall, she never realized it was so grand! Hundreds of beautiful candles decorated the beautiful walls. 4 tables where situated in the middle of the hall. Every house had a beautifully embroidered tapestry hanging above it. She looked over at her sister, who was sitting with her friends. Amanda-Jane (Aka AJ) was sitting on the left side of the Ravenclaw table. Amanda-Jane waved to her and smiled, getting excited that Elia was there! Elia smiled weakly back and looked back at the Sorting Hat.

"Oscars Isabella!"

One of the girls from the chitty chatters, ran up to the sorting hat, all eager. The girl 'Isabella' was smiling brightly as she was sorted into

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

Isabella waved to her friends and went to join the Huffflepuff table.

A couple more kids started going. Elia was really nervous now. She stood on her tip toes, and counted silently. There where 5 more kids besides her.
Now 4
And 3
2
One. Until suddenly. Her name was called

"Wilfor Elia!"

Elia walked up to the sorting hat very cautiously. She was the last kid up there. Elia sat on the stool and waited for the hat to sit on her head.

"Peculiar. You are a Wilfor yes?"

Elia gulped and nodded.

"Ah... I do wonder why you seem...off... Wait, now I see... I know..."

Elia gulped again and crossed her fingers. She saw AJ show her, her own fingers where crossed.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Elia's face dropped.

"What?" she croaked.

She stood up numbly and walked in complete silence to the Slytherin table. She sat down and waited for the feast.

'Oh no...' She thought as a single tear fell on her plate.

Evelyn timidly took a step into the Great Hall. Her Hogwarts journey was about to begin, which only added to her nerves. The Sorting Ceremony was a huge deal- it dictated the course of her schooling for the next seven years. If she were to think the wrong thoughts while up there, she could end up in the wrong house. She could be the Sorting Hat's first mistake. Additionally, what if she didn't get into any house at all? What if the Sorting Hat decided that she wasn't meant to go to Hogwarts? Evie was an adopted child- what if her ancestors weren't really witches and wizards?

Her main concern wasn't about which house she would get into. One of her parents had been a Hufflepuff and the other had been a Slytherin. There was no "family house" that she would be expected to join. Any house would do for her. She just hoped that she would do justice to the house that she was chosen to be in. Secretly, Evie wished to be a Hufflepuff. As her Hufflepuff Da had just passed away, she hoped to continue in his footsteps and make him proud of her. Slytherin would be her second choice house but Hufflepuff was where she desperately wanted to go.

When she was called up to the hat, Evie plastered on a smile over the nerves. It wasn't truly a fake smile yet it felt unnatural to be broadly grinning when her tummy was churning. She sat on the stool and waited for the hat to be placed on her head.  When it finally was, Evie nearly jumped at the invasive voice inside her head.

"Hmm... curious. Raised as both a Hufflepuff and a Slytherin... you do seem to have qualities of each house. But your yearning is for Hufflepuff? I see... I think I'll place you in....
HUFFLEPUFF!"

Now grinning for real, Evelyn hopped off the stool and walked in the direction of her fellow classmates. The beaming smile stayed on her face as she sat down among the rest of the Hufflepuffs and waited for her first year of school to start.

Avalon walked into the Great Hall together with all the other first-year students. She tried to take in all the sights as a professor led them towards the front of the room. Floating candles, the cloudy ceiling where the moon and stars were so clearly visible… she noticed her mouth was agape, and quickly closed it. She did not want to seem too surprised and awestruck – what if people found out she had so few experiences with real magic? Sure, she had read about the ceiling in a large book on Hogwarts, but seeing the real thing with her own eyes was so very different.

Ava realised she had almost completely missed the Sorting Hat's song because of her nerves and trying to seem calm and collected. The other students got sorted one by one, and she clapped for them all, no matter what house they now belonged to. She paid attention to their last names, figuring out when it would be her turn. When finally “Sylvester, Avalon!” was called out, she let out a sigh and walked to the front. As she had expected, she heard a lot of whispering when she took the seat. Before the large hat covered her eyes, she saw many students' intrigued expressions. It was obvious that they were very curious where this first-year would be sorted.

They did not have to wait long. Avalon knew where her parents wanted her to go; they had been telling her what they expected of her ever since she was able to understand their words. She kept the name of that particular house in her thoughts, repeating it over and over in her mind. She hoped that the hat would be agreeable enough to allow her a seat at that table. The hat seemed to realise her desperation, because after a second it bellowed: “SLYTHERIN!”

Applause erupted from the table on the right, and Avalon could not help but grin as relief washed over her. She hurried over to her new home that she had wanted to be a part of for so long.

Cynthia Evans stood with her fellow first-year students waiting to be sorted into their houses.  Her parents had explained to her exactly how the sorting went.  There was absolutely nothing to be worried about.  It didn’t matter what House she was sorted into.  Her parents would be proud of her anyway.  Her thoughts went back to the Sorting Ceremony that was taking place.  Trying on an old hat did seem kind of silly to Cynthia, but it was a respected tradition that was held annually.  Slowly her fellow schoolmates were called forward and sorted into their new houses.

When her name was called, Cynthia stepped forward with an air of confidence, sat down on the stool and put on the old, tattered Sorting Hat.  She giggled slightly when a voice sounded in her ear.  She knew the Sorting Hat would place her into the House that she was best suited for.  She hoped to be in Hufflepuff just like both of her parents.  After what seemed like several minutes, the Sorting Hat shouted “HUFFLEPUFF!” and Cynthia smiled.  She took off the hat, set it gently onto the stool and hurried off to join her new house-mates cheering loudly at the Hufflepuff table.  She shook a few hands and greeted several others as she sat down to watch the rest of the Sorting Ceremony.

Perlyn trailed behind the large mass of first-years as they entered the Great Hall for the first time. The female's feet dragged roughly against the ground as she walked, hanging her head down slightly. Her body felt stiff as she thought of what house she might possibly be sorted into. As thoughts and different scenarios slammed through her mind, the female tried desperately to calm herself.

'Okay. Just calm down, Perlyn. Everything will be fine. There is nothing to worry about,'

Eventually calming herself down enough to think clearly, Perlyn began picking up her feet and increasing her pace.
The group soon slowed and eventually stopped. Standing on the tip of her toes, the female attempted to peer over the large group of individuals to see what was going on ahead of everyone. Before everyone was a simple setup. An individual holding what Perlyn assumed to be a list of names, a stool, and upon the stool, the Sorting Hat.
Perlyn gulped silently as she returned to standing flat on her feet. Her head echoed with the voice of the individual holding the list as they began to speak about the sorting ceremony. Becoming nervous once more, the female's vivid blue eyes shimmered with worry. Attempting to calm herself again, Perlyn recalled when she had received an acceptance letter from the great wizarding school she now stood within.

The warm, proud smile upon her mother's face, her father's tears of joy streaming down his cheeks with a dopey grin plastered on his lips, the sensation of being roughly hugged (and almost suffocated) by her father, and...-

"Estrella Perlyn."

All of Perlyn's thoughts came violenty crashing down around her as her name echoed throughout the Great Hall. Her eyes were wide with shock and her lips slightly parted. A silent moment passed before the female breathed in deeply and stepped forward, carefully weaving through the crowd. Once she had made her way to the front of the crowd, Perlyn hesitantly approached the stool. Gathering her courage, she sat upon the stool and the Sorting Hat was placed on her head. She held her breath as she waited for the hat to speak.

"How interesting," the hat began, slightly humming in thought. "You come with more knowledge in your mind than expected."

Perlyn lightly bit her bottom lip, anxious to be sorted and not have so many eyes upon her.

"Your intelligence and studious nature suggest Ravenclaw, yet you hold other traits that suggest Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. I suppose it's a matter of which traits stand out most within you." The hat hummed some more for a few moments. "Yes... I know where you belong."

"RAVENCLAW!"

The hat bellowed out his decision, allowing cheers to erupt from the table where the members of Ravenclaw sat.
As soon as the hat was removed from it's place upon her head, Perlyn swiftly walked over to the Ravenclaw table, relieved that it was finally over. As she approached, a few of the other students either reached out to her or got up to meet her at the table. Perlyn greeted them with a shakey smile. Taking a seat in an empty spot, the female silently let out a relieved sigh. Still nervous yet slightly content, Perlyn watched the rest of the Sorting Ceremony.

Kayleena could not stop her eyes from wandering as she took in the unfamiliar sights Hogwarts had to offer. Firmly positioned in the middle of the group of whispering first years, Kayleena Wynters was alone and wondering which house she would be placed in. She knew, deep down, Slytherin would be where she would go. It was her Father's house after all, and it didn't take her long to figure out how similar she was to him due to her Mother's comments.

She barely listened to the speech being given out, too many thoughts swiming in her head that Kayleena almost missed her turn to be sorted. It was almost a surprise when the hat seemed uncertain on where to place her. Juggling back and forth between Slytherin and Ravenclaw. When her house, Slytherin, was called out for everyone to hear, Kayleena didn't know whether to be anxious or excited.

With a deep breath in order to calm her nerves, she placed the old hat back on its stool and made the short trip towards the table filled with her housemates.

Anna waited in the long line which seemed to take forever. She didn't know which house she hoped for, she was more anxious about the fact that everyone in the school would be staring at her. The feeling made her want to vomit all over the place but she didn't she was feeling brave. She noticed all the people in the line sit on the stool and have the old ugly hat be placed on their head. "Slytherin!" The hat yelled about a newcomer. The boy smiled and the Slytherin table stood up and applauded and cheered for their new member. It was a new family member that would be there for 7 years. Anna started feeling brave knowing that no matter what house she was placed in, she would be accepted.
"Anna Blair" A voice yelled. She looked up and suddenly forgot how to walk. Someone gave her a little push and then she started walking slowly towards the stool. "Hmmmmm.... Yes...." Anna didn't really pay attention to the hat was murmuring, she was thinking as hard as she could what family would she belonged to. Would they like her? Or what if the sorting hat makes a mistake, even though the hat cannot make mistakes. "Hufflepuff!" The hat yelled and the Hufflepuff table applauded and cheered for Anna to come join the long table. She scurried along to the table with a grin on her face and sat down between two random housemates.
She watched the rest of the first years get sorted and cheered with the rest of the Hufflepuff did. Soon enough, everyone was sorted and the dinner was served. Delicious, warm food came out onto the tables and Anna started drooling. This, was truly the best day ever.

She was biting her nails nervously while concentrated on repeating all the steps of a proper wound management "One-examination, two-hemostasis, three-antiseptics, four-anesthesia" . This was her way of coping with things. Whenever she felt like there was a weird or streesful situation ahead, she would try and repeat the last thing she had learned. She has always wanted to become a Healer, so most of the things she was learning were related to that "five-exploration of the underlaying tissue, six-removal of foreign bodies..." She was actually starting to feel better, when out of nowhere, a powerful blow to her right upper quadran of the abdomen made her turn around annoyed, only to see more than ten pairs of eyes looking at her like she was a weirdo. "What?" she asked while waving her hands in the air.

"It's you! You're next!" some random voice said from somewhere around her.
"Uhm...next to what?" she asked even more bitter than before, only to realize it was the dumbest question in the history of questions. ' How was I able to finish all that 1st year bibliography by the time I was 7, but I'm as dumb as to ask that. Gosh, sometimes I can be so stupid! My grandfather would disinherit me if he heard that'

Even though her cortisol levels were highly elevated because of all the stress she had to endure on this dreadful day full of "firsts", thanks to the innocent altercation that just took place between her and her colleagues, she actually forgot for a second that the moment that's going to change her life forever was about to happen. She promptly climbed the stairs to the Sorting Hat and prayed to some imaginary Gods that this burst of anger won't influence her faith in any way. She comfortably placed herself on the little wooden chair and as soon as the worn leather of the Sorting Hat touched the first hairs on her head, she found herself yelling inside "Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw!" She felt that she was yelling so loud that people around her could actually hear her. "Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw! Ravenclaw!"

"Ohhh, what do we have in here? It's a McNair! Nice family you've got! I remember your grandfather...he was indeed a proud Ravenclaw...the same for your father. But you? I don't think so...."
' No! No! I am a Ravenclaw...the same as all my grandparents and my parents! I'm witty and intelligent and I spend all my time studying and reading! I started reading when I was 2 years and a half and...'
"Dear, but that's not the only thing a Ravenclaw needs in order to be a Ravenclaw. Do you really want to be one?"
" YEEES! " she found herself yelling - for real, this time, making all the people in the Great Hall exchange curious looks.
" I think too that you would be fit for Ravenclaw. You're indeed witty and intelligent and your ambition surpasses almost anyone's, but...you won't find the greatness you want in there. You want other things too and you might not know it yet, but those things you want - you want them even more than you would imagine...SLYTHERIN!!!"

The words the Sorting Hat was saying were foreign to her. She stood up and mechanically walked in the middle of the crowd, refusing to accept or even understand what has just happened. She was looking at her feet, trying to wake herself from this weird dream she was having. She had to admit, it has been a really funny dream, but now she had to wake up. Looking around, she noticed that people weren't paying attention to her anymore. They were too busy to greet their new house members, applauding fiercely every time the Sorting Hat was yelling the name of one of the Houses. Taking advantage to the lack of people's interest in her, she started hitting her head with her small fists, pinching the skin on her hand and neck, jumping around like a crazy person, so she could wake up from this dream. "Come on, Ada! Wake up already! It's not funny anymore!" But as she was increasing the intensity of her blows, she realized it wasn't just a bad dream. It was the actual reality. She was a Slytherin. In three generations, she was the only one who was not a Ravenclaw. "Oh, well. I have to find a way to  tell that to my grandparents somehow...."

People. So much people. Way too much. Lea Woods tried her best to stay in line, keep her mouth shut and not bump into anyone, but most kids around her didn't get the memo and she had to constantly move a little bit to the right, few inches to the left, a step forward or two steps back just to stay out of everyone's way and keep her own, practically non-existent personal bubble.
When the headmaster asked for silence, kids lowered their voices and began whispering, which was even worse somehow. Lea couldn't really hear what they were saying, the hissing was too loud, too incoherent, like static on broken television. She had no reason to think they were talking about her, but her anxiety didn't care – she wanted to just disappear, run away from this new world, choose the suffering she knew and hide among muggles. It wouldn't solve anything, though, and she knew this.

The half-blooded witch lifter her shin up, locked her eyes on one spot in the distance and waited until her name was called. Student after student walked up when they were called, so she mentally prepared to do the same. She couldn't really see what was happening until she got to the front row, and even then she had way more questions than answers.
There was... a hat. Old, brown, ugly hat. That spoke. And everyone expected her to step forward and wear it for whatever unholy reasons. Lea stared at the hat. It seemed almost as if the hat stared back, until she walked forward and the person that called her name put it on her head. Everything went quiet. She could see all the students before her, but the hissing had gone silent. There was but one voice she heard, voice that seemed to come from within her own head.
"Ah, aren't you a curious little witch...", the hat spoke. Aren't you a creepy musty headpiece, Lea thought without realizing the hat could hear it. Of course it could.
"And witty too, this isn't too hard. You shall be... RAVENCLAW."
The sudden yelling made Lea flinch so hard she almost fell from the stool she was sitting on. As soon as the hat was lifted from her head she bolted up and tried to walk back into the crowd, but people guided her on one of the four tables. She didn't really know what their differences were and what she had in common with these people, but she was just glad she didn't have to stay in front of the whole school longer any longer. Now she could just sit down and disappear to the crowd of black robes and pointy hats and watch other students be roasted by the talking hat instead.

Oliver scanned the hall nervously, looking for any familiar face he could recognize. The people he'd spent his boat ride with had mysteriously vanished, probably due to the sheer number of questions he'd been peppering them with for the entire trip. He really couldn't help it- magic was something he had always wanted to learn about, ever since the first time his mother had told him about her days at Hogwarts, and he wanted to know everything. What made those funny candies move? How did that photograph talk? Could you fly without a broomstick? What would happen if he dropped his wand? If you made a professor angry, were they allowed to turn you into a toadstool? Now he had even more questions- the main one being 'how the heck can a hat talk?' Was it all some kind of magical puppet show, or was that really a sentient hat sitting up there?
Shouldn't his brother and cousins be here somewhere? Once they'd all gotten off the train, they had waved goodbye to him and gone into the castle with all the other older students, promising that they'd see him around eventually. He scanned the Slytherin table first, hoping to catch a glimpse of his brother Adrian, but had no luck. Since all of his cousins were in different houses- Ravenclaw for Cornelia, Slytherin for Atelia, and Gryffindor for Nathan- it was difficult for him to find them, and being around so many experienced people was making him nervous. He bit his lip and tugged at the sleeve of his robe, still not used to the strange attire.
"Oliver Faye-Leblanc!"
The questions buzzing around in Oliver's mind would have to be put on hold. Nervously making his way to the front of the room, the boy gingerly placed the hat upon his head. He did a double-take as he made sudden eye contact with his brother, who was staring intently at him from the Slytherin table.
"Another Faye, then?" the hat commented. "Haven't we had enough of you already?"
Oliver nearly fell off the stool when the hat spoke to him, completely oblivious to the snarky comment. This really was a magical, talking hat! He hoped this wasn't a dream.
"And where to put you? You've a bit of everything- YES, I can really speak, you little skeptic!" The hat sniffed, having read Oliver's thoughts clearly. "Perhaps not as intelligent as I had thought."
Oliver's face burned a bit at this comment, but the hat hummed quietly. "Mmm.... But the desire to learn is certainly there. You're a kind one, too, I can feel that... Perhaps not a fit for Slytherin or Gryffindor... but where to put you? Hufflepuff... Ravenclaw..."
The hat deliberated for quite a while, surprising Oliver. Many of the other students had been sorted much more quickly than this. Finally, after a few minutes that felt to Oliver like an eternity, the hat straightened itself out. "I think you'll fare best in RAVENCLAW!"
Oliver noticed his brother visibly deflate a bit as he walked away from the Slytherin table, but he tried not to take it to heart.
