Rules had never been Mamori's strong suit. Or rather, his violation threshold had never matched whatever normal thirteen-year-olds operated under — trained aggressively high by a natural appetite for money and an even stronger belief in the free market (broadly interpreted) to the point that less than two years into Hogwarts, his parents had basically given up trying to do anything about him. The only real consequence with teeth left was Hogwarts banning him for three seasons and ripping the captaincy away, terrifying in theory until you considered the small detail of finding someone to replace him. Because good luck with that! Nobody on the team had wanted the job in the first place, which was why his application had been fast-tracked into an immediate approved.

As much as Mamori's writer wants to continue milking the lore for one more paragraph just to hand the moderator extra material for their ongoing psychosocial case conceptualization of him, the deadline is not interested in any of this and is closing in regardless. And strictly speaking, the situation itself wasn't cooperating either, what with screaming going off in every direction, smoke thickening into an actual fire, and off in the distance, apparently several Acromantulas had wandered onto the scene. The pink-haired badger scaned what he could see of the area and discovered that amid the chaos the headmaster had also ceased to exist.

"Things have escalated, lads," Mamori said to the trio, doing his best to sound chill about it while secretly panicking. "which means your parents are absolutely about to find out you did detention time." After all, a scene this size meant a letter home no matter what if anybody got hurt, and explaining that letter properly meant going all the way back to why their precious son or daughter had been doing manual labour in a field at this exact hour — and then yeah, no more elaboration needed.

With the headmaster gone, questions piled up fast: Who was in charge now? Should someone go find another staff member? Did he need to get the three of them out of here? Was the man Damien had mentioned earlier somehow tangled up in this? Mamori's mind sprinted through all of it in a minute or so, then settled on one question that truly mattered: shit, was he still breathing? He pressed two fingers to his pulse and found a steady heartbeat, much to his relief. Phew. Guess it was his turn to do the deep breathing now.

He then sucked in a sharp breath and started herding the three of them forward with a hand planted firmly between each set of shoulder blades, without asking nicely. "Let's go, let's go, let's go! Mysterious man or not, we need to get out of here before any of us actually die." A single birthday voucher was now nowhere near enough currency to cover a hazard of this magnitude, unless his business model was expanding into funeral consulting effective immediately. "We stick together, nobody wanders off, gloves on, away from the fire," he added, mostly on the logic that more people moving as a group meant better odds someone else would take the hit before he did. "And if anyone spots a giant spider, don't try to heroically duel it," because nobody here was winning that fight, the thing could shred a firstie whole without noticing, and people would do well to trust him on this one, seeing as his factory settings, long before quidditch jock, had been magical creature nerd.

Luckily, the younger followed Della's lead and allowed herself to be steered toward the Headmaster. She only asked where they were going. (And she didn't notice Della hissing toward Greta in the forest? Odd. Was this girl dim or something? Oh bother, she might be hard to save from danger.) The older Gryffinder reiterated her fears: "I don't think we have time for me to explain how I know. But basically, something is really wrong. Like bigger-than-detention wrong. We should just get to Headmaster Lear—"

At the end of that sentence, Della expected to reach Solomon Lear. After the detention had begun, the old man had taken a comfortable seat with some refreshments where he could easily survey all the students.

But he wasn't there. The fifth-year gripped Dahlia's arm tighter, "Uh, where is Headmaster Lear? Did you see him leave?"

Della started to become aware that chaos had broken out around them. Students were shouting spells and calling for help. Before she could hone in on a specific situation, a small voice wound up through the air from the ground beside her foot.

"It's a snake. An old snake. It knows your name. I think I should know its name. I'm … unsettled." Della's emerald snake was moving frantically through the grass beside them. She had never seen Greta like this; she was usually a calm, curious snake. Nothing had ever frightened her since she had been in Della's care. If anything, the small snake had become more confident. But now, even her voice had a shakiness to it. It was odd to hear hissing tinged with anxiety.

The fifth-year released her death grip on Dahlia and bent down to let Greta coil around her arms. Now that both of them were touching, the Gryffindor felt safer and emboldened. The pair often took this position in private, Greta enjoying the warm-blooded body heat, but they had never done it in front of another a human. The snake was definitely out of the bag today.

"What do you mean by 'an old snake?' A basilisk? Does it want to hurt the students?"

"I don't know. I don't know if it's good or bad."

Della looked back toward the forest. An old snake that knew her name. If it were dangerous, all the students could be as good as dead. If it wasn't—well, maybe it knew where their headmaster went. It seemed like a job oddly suited for a Parselmouth. She turned to Dahlia. "I'm going into the forest. I think there's an old snake in there, and I think it knows my name. It's telling us to run. I say you follow its directions and get to the castle. We probably need an adult." Della hoped that Dahlia was a poor Gryffindor and would heed the call to retreat, but it was likely that the first-year would charge into the forest, too. She hoped the younger girl had her wits about her.

“I suppose we’ll never know,” Cecilia hummed in response to Angel’s remark. Though there was no outright admission of her guilt, there was no denial of it either. Still, that did not matter right now. She was only miffed that someone had snitched on them.

“You’ll learn. Maybe,” she said with a slight grin upon hearing her admission. “I see no point in dwelling on the matter, we’re already here,” Cecilia added before tossing a stray rock into a nearby pile of them. Still, in the back of her mind she clung to the idea of hunting down whoever had ratted her out. There was little she could do while she was a prefect, but she was not opposed to the idea of getting payback without circumventing the rules.

After some time, Angel wandered off after some boy. His boots loudly snapped a few branches and announced his failed attempt at sneaking to those in the vicinity. “Talk about slacking,” she mumbled and shook her head. Meanwhile, Lottie was diligently clearing some branches and stone. It came as no surprise that she was the most productive and efficient. That was simply who she was. Cecilia could never emulate.

Her thoughts were soon interrupted when all hell broke loose; a bushfire began spreading throughout the forest. Her face paled when she caught a glimpse of Acromantulas attacking students in the distance.

“Oh for Merlin’s sake…”

For some reason, Angel then thought it was a bright idea to approach another boy, a flaming one at that. She had never met a snake who tempted fate like a reckless lion. Soon enough, she was set afflame due to the proximity and Cecilia could only facepalm.

When she wandered over, Cecilia grasped Lottie’s arm before backing away from a flaming Angel. Unfortunately, the sight was neither as celestial or divine as it sounded. If anything it was rather horrific. She drew her wand and prepared to cast an extinguishing charm. However, she paused upon hearing another girl cry the familiar incantation while pointing her wand at Angel. Without waiting for the outcome, Cecilia turned her attention elsewhere and pointed her wand towards the sky. “Nix Facitur,” she spoke while swirling her wand and tracing a long-flourished tail to finish. Attempting to create snow would not be her first choice, but it was all she knew. All she coul do now was quietly hope that it would somehow counter any flames that neared them.

“Stay where you are and away from the dried branches,” Cecilia instructed Angel while trying to keep a safe distance from the girl. As chaos unfolded, she would nervously glance over her shoulder in an attempt to keep an eye on her rear until Angel made an unsettling remark.

“You might be right, but first we need to handle this,” she said while gesturing towards Angel.

Her gaze followed the boys departing form. "To think he could insult me, and I would grace him with the pleasure of working with me." She said with a scoff. Hence her rejection towards working with the lad, she set herself a drift into solitude. Yet, solitude was a comfortable cloak, although she would've preferred a servant to do all the work for herself. As she watched the lad depart, her eyes lowered to the ribbon of scales at her feet, acknowledging its presence. "нєℓℓσ мιѕѕ" the scaled animal had spoken to her. She glanced down at the creature before her, without an ounce of fear written on her face. It had not been the first time she had communed with a the scaled creature, so tremor was no where near her. "ֆȶǟȶɛ ʏօʊʀ ɮʊֆɨռɛֆֆ զʊɨƈӄʟʏ; ʍʏ քǟȶɨɛռƈɛ ɦǟֆ ǟռ ɛӼքɨʀʏ ɖǟȶɛ" she spoke in sharp, spiteful parseltongue. Unwilling to stand there and wait for the animal to respond when there was a task at hand, she turned her back to the scaled creature, and departed. Her steps carried her to the deteriorated clearing just before the Forbidden Forest, then something caught her eye: a girl on all fours crawling blindly in the tall grass, tracing for a lost item.

Now, Blair's heart only beat for her own blood; for strangers, such as the crawling maiden, she held nothing less or more than ridicule. Without a second glance at the young lass; she walked away. She had arrived at the edge of the forbidden forest, bitter disdain written on her flawless, velvety features. This work was so beneath her, she was meant for greater things than this she thought to herself.

She advanced towards the eroded clearing piled with debris and thorns form ring around the forest. With sharp fury and regal disdain, she began cutting and clearing through the tangled wilderness. As she tore through the thorns, the shadows parted, revealing a descending stone labyrinth beneath her. Blair was never the one to get called by adventure, but, driven by curiosity and the desperate need to escape this place, she took a step into the stone, moss covered labyrinth. With every step she took, the more suffocated she felt, a feeling of dread beginning to dawn over her. As she turned around to leave the cold place, it dawned on her; was engulfed in darkness. The pathway she had just come in from had just closed shut, as if it was never there. A feeling of dread washed over her, and swift as a falcon her wand was drawn.

Her eyes dart around, fury replaced by terror etched on to her diamond features. "Ugh, what foolishness came over me. Now my shoes are sully" Unknowing as to where the labyrinth leads, her safety was far from near.

Beyond the labyrinth, the screams of the other students attending detention was heard. What horror awaits her up there? she wondered. With trembling hands and fear masking her divine features, she continued her cautious descent into the dark room. As she reached the room, she feels around she suddenly touches a lifeless torch. She lifts her wand, breaking the silence: "Incendio" she muttered, wand facing the torch. A sudden spark forms, setting the top of the torch ablaze in golden flames. The lifeless torch ignites, filling the room with light, enabling her to look at her surroundings.

Cecilia Merrick. Well she helped her out. That was something she done and benefited her right now. The burns, it wouldn't last in her skin. Stayed put herself, she knew that the others were coming to check the scene. This scene was horrendous.

“Nix Facitur,” the red haired fox exclaimed in hopes it will work

Snowballs were not in her mind, but that'll do for now, atleast she did something. However, Angel was looking over on both her left and right, others were getting attacked as well. What made her head cocked sideways, was how Cecilia agreed with her remark. Interesting. Well they weren't enemies, but preferences and personalities would clash between the two snakes. After remembering her first meet with Cecilia she tends to be a Hufflepuff at heart, though her tactics and way of life were not Angel's cup of tea.

Now the pressing issue at hand. The blood she smelled awhile back. Charlotte was back away from Cecilia. That was good. But now that they were technically near she would be more tedious about the delivery. No use in having scared students who would be frantic because of a sudden news.

"I got that, thanks." she said lightly as she kept her composure. In response to Cecilia's instruction, even though it was already in her mind.

She was looking around, but her skin was beginning to look more blood red than it had been. This reminded her of an incident where she almost burned herself. Talk about full circle. Reckless sometimes she can be like that. But to someone who is also grounded and centered she is very perplexing.

"I should warn you both, I smelled blood last time. This should tell the three of us something. I also apologize for my decision to go to the fire and extinguish it in the crossfire, the fire seemed to be more than a problem, like what we have right now." she says as she bit her lip

"Now I wonder if you guys will ask me how I came to that point but I think it's best if we direct our attention here to get this blasted flames down." she said with more fringe of irritation, passive aggressive.

While there was not any time that would make sense for Angel to give thanks, she would save that for later. Her mind was beginning to try dissociating. Her composure did not burn down.

Acromantulas. They were big creatures somehow Angel was fascinated. She looked and was shaking her head. It was ridiculous their size was massive. Although some were more smaller, it was bigger, like a half giant.

"Arachnophobes beware." she said with sarcasm though it was under her breath

A scent was again getting back to her. Burning ground.

No damage, just work. There's no role model. No cap, no sleep"

The freezing spell went off without a hitch, streaking forward to strike her target squarely. Lips thinned with just the slightest twinge of guilt as @Matthew Campbell's form froze up mid-stride to topple forward onto the ground. She had only meant to halt his progression, not diminish his dignity with the hapless display. Yet whatever regrets she might have momentarily felt were shortly tempered.

"Let him take a closer look..." Miss Park had suggested before following it up with an appropriately lion-related quip.

Evelynn didn't deign to dignify the provocation with a response. In fact, she really didn't need to. As though on dramatic cue, chaos seemed to break loose, the collection of detention-faring students swiftly breaking into pockets of shouts and spell-casting. And it wasn't hard to see why. The two smaller arachnids would temporarily go unnoticed, their forms veiled amongst the throngs of bodies. For the largest of the trio, however, hardly a cursory glance was needed to spy its lumbering form as it barreled from the forest, demonstrating exactly why she harbored caution against drawing too near to the forest's edge.

"Acromantula." A reflexive glance cast it's way towards @Marshal Mozor, memories of a shared encounter with a similarly sized arachnid rapidly surfacing. Just as she'd been then and later during their Encounter at the Forest's Edge with a Wampus, Evelynn found herself grateful for his presence once more. That was when she likewise noticed the smoke beginning to rise. "And fire..." she breathed. There should have been no surprise there. Where there were first years, flames were bound to spring to life sooner or later.

Peeling her gaze from the unfolding chaos, she tried to seek out the Headmaster, perhaps subconsciously intending to take a lead from his reaction. Her attempt was in vain. In the gaps between the other students, she could see his recliner rested empty, but his form eluded her attention. Somehow. A man so large as he and bedecked in armor should not go so easily amiss. Brows knitted as another vein of concern sprung to knot with the rest, but she rationalized his absence as simply being curtained by the throng of students. She couldn't have known that he had been swallowed by the ground, that his intervention would not be immediately impending.

Nor could she have known that a number of other students were peeling from the group in pursuit of their own agendas. Mysterious men... dark potions... bone entangled mushrooms... serpents leading the curious astray... The plethora of paths dispersed in such a way as to inspire bottomless intrigue.
PLOT PLANNING
If your character happens to have found themselves in any of the crafted plot hooks as exampled immediately above, I would LOVE to plot with you! Evelynn will be graduating soon and will be entering Auror training, but possesses a lot of information pertaining to Main Story from the previous seven years. She would love to hear your character's experiences and share information. Please reach out if you'd be interested in plotting and threading together!
Some of them vaguely caught her attention. Others would leave her ignorant to their very existence. In this moment, however, there was no ignoring the immediate danger of the fire and spiders. Students were already hurt. Death could be moment's away for many of them. "They need help," she pointed out, fingers gently touching at the elbow of @Winnie Athanatos to include the fifth year in the appeal that had otherwise been primarily directed at Marshal.

But there was likewise the matter of Miss Park and Mister Campbell. Her gaze cut towards them. She had half a mind to urge the young heiress to retreat, to take the boy with her, but something told Evelynn doing so would prove to be a futile effort. Besides, she herself had been even younger when she'd first dedicated herself to her current path. Not that she would have wished that kind of survival drive on anyone. Still, she had to concede that the girl maintained a certain aura of competence beyond many of Evelynn's own peers.

"Keep him safe," she implored gently. "And stay out of the forest." As she spoke, she dropped her shoulder-pack to the ground and flipped open the flap. In a blink, her arm disappeared up to the elbow. When she pulled back, her fingers gripped the handle of her Silver Arrow.

"Take this. I would urge you to fly back to the castle to summon help. But if you choose not to, at least stay out of range of harm's way." She presented the broom to @Nabi Park, then addressed the group collectively. "I suggest we regroup once the acromantula has been neutralized." She would wait for some form of confirmation of a plan, but only for so long. There was little time to waste. Before long, Evelynn would she pivot, immediately levying her wand towards the immediate threat.

As much as she would have loved to blast the spider to bits, however, the student population of detention detainees was dangerously dense. Too aggressive an attack could risk accidental friendly fire. Until she could close the distance and ensure a wide enough berth around the spider to ensure no casualties to her more concussive attacks, she would have to attempt instead to impede the creature. Even better if she could topple it onto its back to expose its more vulnerable underside. "Genua Spongify!"

Detention Detail PV Beyond the Treeline
The reality of the situation she found herself in seeped into Sabrina's tame, if not boring perception of it in a way a flood from the apartment above would. First came the lone, quiet drops – few and far between, muffled by the carpet – until they formed a puddle, their drumming against it picking up on speed and echoing through the flat until finally, the soaked ceiling gave in and collapsed in on itself.

Caught in the rythmicall labor of collecting and desposing of twigs lulled Sabrina's senses, giving her thoughts a space to wonder, ears not picking up on the duo of voices standing out from the buzz of chatter, both calling for fire to burst out of their wands – drops going unheard. It wasn't until she bend down to rip out a particularly stubborn tuft of grass that the distinctive smell of smoke hit her nostrils – the puddle forming. Frown setting over her brows, she swiveled to face George, 'Hey, do you also smell -' the word died on her tongue, her jaw going slack as her eyes focused on the scenery – and the ceiling collapsed.

The forest's border now glowed red and orange, outlined by hungry flames, consuming student bodies the same way it did dry leaves. Through the suffocating wall of smoke it created, emerged three gigantic forms. Staring into their beady eyes in awe and fear, Sabrina could do nothing but watch as the three acromantulas jumped onto their first victims. Her mind only caught up with her body when she was taking the first step, desperate to help, immedietly stumbling back, hands reaching for her partner's (@George Calder) shoulders, 'Listen - pull out your wand and run to the castle as fast as you can. Don't look back, and don't stop until you get help, got it?' she spewed out the instructions, smile long gone from her face as she gave George's shoulders one last squeez before pulling away, running through the crowd, closer to the fire's origin.

Her thoughts – though caught in an incoherent whirl – worked fast. A quick whip of her head confirmed that, yes, they were in this alone, as the headmaster – and the only sad excuse for a trusted adult around –seemed to have vanished into thin air, which was not good, not good at all. Though they were brave and resilient the danger was just too imminent and, well, dangerous for the students to fight through alone, meaning they needed to get out and get help fast, 'EVERYONE, OUT! RUN FOR THE CASTLE, GET HELP! YOU LOT HEAR ME?! GO!' she called out, hoping that at least one of the trouble makers present would oblige her demand and get the aid they so desperately needed, while she herself halted before the flames: enough to feel their heat but far enough that they weren't licking her. 'Okay, okay -,' she mumbled to herself, quickly adapting the well practiced spell-casting stance, whipping out her wand, 'put out the fire, attract attention, get help,' she rattled off before putting her stiff hand to motion, aiming at the sky above the burning bodies, 'Meteolojinx!'

A Saturday in June
Pyxis should have listened to his friends’ warnings. It wasn't everyday that Kaito was proactive, and the only time he’d ever seen Costanza so invested was during the escape room they did together some time ago. Stopping him was out of character for both of them, but the lad never did take well with being told what to do. Should’ve been a damn rule follower. My parents were right.

He dropped whatever he was holding without getting a good look at it, bringing his hands up to his ears instead. The shrill scream’s source wasn’t immediately obvious to Pyxis, but he was thankful it wasn’t as bad as a mandrake’s cry. He’d probably be dead already if that was the case. Once the scream stopped, he hesitantly stopped protecting his ears and inspected what had been pulled up with the roots of the mushroom. He expected a vole or some other woodland creature. Instead, the mycanoid’s roots had been curled around what was unmistakably a human skull.

“What the hell?” he muttered. Turning to Costanza, Pyxis wanted to ask if she was seeing what he was seeing, or if this was just some hallucination or curse that was cast on him specifically. But the Hufflepuff wasn’t looking down at what he’d just unearthed. She was staring off at something. Pyxis followed her gaze, but he saw nothing out of the ordinary. “Jewelweed?” He looked back at her, noting the absent look in her eyes. What the frick is happening right now?

Then he heard the commotion. It was like he and Costanza were in a little bubble of tension, and Pyxis could only see what was in front of him and her, as well as vaguely registering Kaito and Jessie at the corner of his eye. But screams and scrambling and stomping alerted him to the fact that whatever he was uncovering wasn’t the most immediately worrying thing happening right then. He spun around to see that the fire spell he should have been more worried about had turned into a blaze. And there were gigantic spiders running around. His first thought should’ve been to bravely run in and knock those arachnids the heck back with a jinx, but he turned to Costanza instead.

“Hey! Snap out of it! We have to get out of here!” he yelled, grabbing her by the shoulders and shaking her. When that didn’t rouse her, Pyxis cursed and contemplated dragging her away from the ward line. But he was a duellist, not a strongman. His noodle arms could attest. He tried to spot the Headmaster, looking where the man had been sitting before the detention group dispersed. After not spotting him, Pyxis grabbed the skull as evidence that something was not right with those mushrooms and moved just a couple feet away from Costanza. He withdrew his wand and cast a spell with the intention of protecting her and his friends behind her.

Denise learned a lot of things at Hogwarts. Well, she had to learn spells, potions, and much more.

And the one important thing she learned is that a half-giant and a half-goblin should not interact with one another. One enormously large and another shorter than Denise herself, both were sneering with a look of pure loathing.

First, she and Logan Baird had to run away from a swarm of bees. Denise was terrified, and after Remy Break was told off, or well, "humiliated" by the headmaster, who she was now terrified of, Break, after seeing a tooth in his pocket, looked like he was going to punch Barrows, while Barrows looked excited to attack him with his wand, of course.

Denise was excited for nothing but to shrink away. It was a horrible idea for all four of them (well, at least Baird is the sane one here) to work together, but she didn't know who else to work with. She shifted a little closer to Baird. Baird didn't seem like the type to attack a first year, and Denise did not want to battle between a half-giant and a half-goblin; either they might wake up in heaven or hell.

Barrows himself wasn't bad, but she hoped that Barrow's own teeth would not be added to Break's likely large collection.

Her pile grew higher and wider, brush stacking up until sticks and stones began tumbling back down into the soil below. There was a certain peace to it, if she could ignore the surrounding chatter and occasional alarmed screeches. It seemed that, somewhere not far off from where she quietly did her work, a commotion was grabbing the attention of her fellow troublemaking classmates.

Cecilia and Angel seemed to have some degree of a history, if their casual conversation said anything about it. The two seemed much more keen on speaking than Lottie, a fact the Slytherin girl was both envious of and slightly grateful for. She listened with soft amusement as they remarked about their peculiar situation. Loose spiders, strange discoveries, flaming students-

Lottie abruptly glanced up from her work. It was just in time for her to be dragged away by Cecilia in one quick tug. "What-" It was then that Lottie was finally present enough to register the sight before her. Angel, bless her heart, had somehow caught fire amidst the apparent chaos of the surrounding area. And she wasn't the only one, it seemed.

All throughout the grounds, students were being attacked by various natural and unnatural threats. Lottie stumbled back as Cecilia released her grip, attempting to get as far from Angel as possible. "Bloody Merlin, was I the only one doing what we were told?" As the words emerged, through, Lottie felt a gentle pang of guilt in her chest. Patting invisible dust from her sweater, she turned to Cecilia and softly mumbled, "Thanks for that."

Her observations extended further than just flaming Angel. There was a handful of unlucky students who had gotten their clothes scorched. One in particular caught her eye. Framed by a garden of violent flames, Archer stood blazing. For a moment, all Lottie could do was stare. Part of her was terrified for his safety. Another part of her was... guiltily enamored by the sight. She shook her head quickly, averting her gaze. Bigger fish.

Then there was, of course, the spiders. She wasn't exactly sure when they had emerged, perhaps some time between her peaceful cleaning and the sudden onslaught of quickly spreading flames. Nonetheless, this was certainly the greater issue. With Cecilia and another student already working to tame the fire, Lottie decided her efforts would better be used on defending her classmates and, more importantly, herself. She gave Cecilia a semi-confident and semi-annoyed nod, hoping she'd get the gist.

A new task had revealed itself. And Lottie was nothing if not efficient.

Though she knew that fighting fire with fire was unwise, she also knew that magical spiders had a particular weakness to the very thing that was slowly eating away the brush. With a deep inhale, Lottie rushed forward into the fray and cried out, "Incendio tria!"
