With a flick of his wand, his spell went towards the wild Erin, but before he saw his mistake his body almost gave up on him as the pair almost fell to the floor "I'm fine..." the prefect lied, using Selim as a crutch to stand up straight again "Selim... You need to help other people... go..." he said with a thankful nod before turning his attention to Knight. Hesitantly, he showed the same thanks "Same goes for you Knight... I-I wont forget it..." Gray owed the pair a favor now for saving his sorry form, maybe he was wrong about them.

Carefully pushing himself away from Selim, he began to stagger through the crowd of students. Many of them were scared and confused about the whole thing, especially first years who were experiencing their first ball. Gray truly felt sorry for them, they didn't deserve this chaos at all. As he began to get closer and closer to his target, a yell rang out through the ballroom. Santario let out a battlecry as she followed Lestrange after the murderous hag known as Marion "San! Lestrange! w-" was the only thing he could blurt out before his knees gave out. The weak prefect fell to his hands and knees and began to let out a spurt of coughing, almost as if he had something stuck in his throat.

Percival managed to stop himself by covering his mouth with a shaking hand, desperately pulling himself off the floor as he approached the lonely girl Willow Anderson. Standing before her, he appeared to be out of breath and looked like he was struggling to breathe "W-willow... we... we need to talk right now!" the boy gasped out of his mouth. His legs seemed to struggle to stay upright while his ghostly pale face demand help, something of which he wanted to scream out but he couldn't "W-we can't speak here, f-follow me" he ordered in an unusual tone, one that had unpleasant aggression behind it.
Action: Attempts to lure Willow away to a quieter area of the ball.

Her spell missed. It couldn't be helped, she supposed. Davenport was on a level of her own, agile in a way for which Evelynn hadn't been prepared. For such a character of femininity, she certainly hadn't short-changed herself on athleticism. Then again, she wasn't a girl at all, really.

A hag, Evelynn reminded herself. One that ought not to be underestimated. Memory did serve of professors admitting difficulty facing a hag in the forest and being forced to retreat. Realistically, it was a fool's errand to believe that any of them stood a chance against this one. At least she was retreating. Sure, she would get away and there would be neither answer to their multitude of questions, nor closure to the threat of danger hanging over them, but they would live to try another day. Evelynn was fully prepared to leave it as it was and let the hag go, knowing full well that to do otherwise could enrage the creature and risk danger to everyone present.

Once again, however, Lestrange would have other plans in mind. In the same reckless fashion as he had taken to instigate the whole affair, he bounded after the disguised hag. "No!" Evelynn shouted in earnest. "Leave her!" But it was no use. Either he didn't hear her, or had more than made up his mind. "Martyring imbecile!" Evelynn cursed under her breath, tongue sucking irritatingly at the air.

It was one thing to throw your own life away, but entirely another when such an action would bring others to risk as well. Even if Lestrange had sought to take on this ridiculous pursuit alone, he should have known he wouldn't have been. And soon enough, the others would converge behind him. First Martin, then Collins. Three chasing after one. Perhaps soon to be made five if White and Burnett came to Lestrange's call and joined them. It still wouldn't be enough. The entire thing was folly. They couldn't take her on. She'd evaded them all figuratively and literally for years now. That wasn't about to change. They were only risking their lives on an carelessly emotional reflex. Anyone sane would have held back.

Evelynn should have held back...

But her feet were already carrying her forward after the rest of them. Her soles thudded angrily against the ground, the crunching of leaves beneath them a coincidental reflection of her ire. At Lestrange. At herself. What her presence could possibly help with, she wasn't certain. But she knew they needed all the help that they could get, and if nothing else, perhaps she might be able to make use of her broom to fly at least some of them to safety if it came to it. So much for enjoying a quiet night at the ball...

Orion had not heard Santario screaming for his help, but despite being clueless about exactly what was happening at the festival, the Defence Against the Dark Arts professor would head towards it. What he did know was that there was a rabid owl who had broken one of his student's fingers (her middle, as she had so proudly shown him) and he was about to try and hunt down the bird until he actually arrived on the scene and saw the chaos unfolding.

Upon witnessing the scene, the French man dropped the candy bar that Aurora had given him before he had headed out. Without hesitation, he whipped out his elder wood wand from his pocket and pointed it directly at Jürgen Hess. "Stupefy!" He hissed, drawing his wand upwards. (MOD NOTE: If the spell hits, it renders its victim unconscious, since this spell is not yet in our dueling system, as it is a sixth year spell, I will leave how it is rolled up to the decision of the moderators of this event).

"Qu'est-ce qui se passe ici?! (basically translates to: What is going on here?!)" Orion would growl in his native tongue at his students before realizing he was not speaking English, "What the hell do you think you're all doing?! I don't care what she is, a knife isn't the way. You all need to calm down and take a step back." It looked like the students were ganging up on a rather disheveled looking fifth year girl, Erin Ryan. She had never acted any different around the professor, considering he had just started this past year.

She was doing so good, so good! At staying out of the everything that was happening in the ball. The fighting, the screaming, the casting of spells. The blatant disregard for teenage lives... again. She had almost gotten off scotch free, just spending time with her girlfriend and being happy and blissful. But no. Willow wasn't that lucky. If she was stung in the leg by a giant mosp one ball, and helped to capture a weird looking Bre doll another ball, why would this one be any different?

Especially to be taken to the side of Percival Gray of all people. If he was anything, he was her mortal enemy. And not nearly as pretty as her date. But when he approached her, gagging and sickly and panicking, how could she say no? Had they... bonded on the first day of school when they worked together to unite Slytherin and Hufflepuff to save Ethen? Surely not enough for him to run to her. As Percival ran elsewhere, Willow found herself following. "Astrea I'll be- I'll be right back I promise. Something is... wrong with him." More so than usual.

She did a half jog half walk to try and catch up with the hacking Percival, she didn't know the throat clearing spell. Hell, she only knew the bandaging spell right now. Oh! Muggle methods! "Do you need the Heimlich maneuver Percival? What's going on?" Her tone was hushed and panicked, not wanting to... draw attention? Embarrass him? She wasn't exactly sure. But she was at least here, and for once that would have to be good enough for him.
Following Percival, but not happy about it

And after all that effort the spell still missed, a pity, but the not-quite-human was still finally taken down by one of the spells his peers were barraging her with. This was good, but she wouldn't be restrained for long.

Selim was waiting for someone to continue restraining her, to fire a more permanent spell, or at the very least pin her to the ground. The boy grew even tenser as his dormmate and once-closer-then-normal companion rushed to the girl and tried to hug her, did he not just see her take chunks out of people's arms? He was close enough for her to go for the throat at this point, this wasn't Erin Ryan anymore, no she was a threat, a child who had the misfortune of crossing hags and being turned into something that as no longer human. She was feral at this point, and wouldn't think twice about tearing out throats.

The fool.

Sure he didn't think killing her was the optimal action, yes he was looking at the child who thought they had the guts to murder another student and not be affected by it, but they had to do something. Even slicing some tendons would be a great option at the moment since it could easily be healed with magic later if they did somehow drag her back into humanity.

Everyone was casting charms at her but none were thinking about the moment she'd be freed from mobility, honestly his peers had no sense, they were crazed with hysteria, they weren't thinking straight. It was showing clearly as multiple students rushed after the other girl who was obviously a threat.

A familiar face soon arrived on the scene though, and upon spotting those glowing red eyes he recognized the dhampir immediately, one of two that he knew personally. He seemed about as distraught as everyone else was about the situation going by his expression, hopefully, he'd still have some shred of logic though.

Selim didn't bother trying to stop the boy rushing headlong into being branded as a murderer, everyone else was probably seeing what he had planned, they could deal with it. The third-year honestly didn't care if his lack of interference ended with the not-quite-human's death. It wasn't the ideal option but it would still make sure that the threat was no longer active, it'd keep fewer students from getting injured, or worse, cursed.

His roommate spoke then, and the skull-masked boy glanced over, now drenched in the other boy's blood, but glad that the wound had closed up, even if that could've ended up possibly trapping the infections that a human's teeth had likely given him inside his body... yeah, magic probably had a cure for that, but hopefully, it'd come quick, because some infections acted fast as hell.

"Try not to stress your body too much, Gray. I'm not sure if the spell Henry cast extends to healing infections as well, or if it just closed up that wound along with any bacteria in it. Try not to strain yourself further, human, or well, mostly-human bites are nothing to scoff at." The boy intoned seriously.

His fellow Slytherin soon took off, and Selim could only hope the boy registered what he said. Once he was freed of being his roommate's crutch, he jogged towards Howard White after moving his staff-lantern to the side ad out of people's way. "It seems my theory of her becoming a hag in the future was right. We have no time to despair though, she needs to be kept pinned, hopefully, your enhanced physical state can compete." For the first time in a while, Selim took off his mask, immediately feeling bare without it, but aiming to show his subdued plea for assistance clearly. He shot the dhampir a look, his face was dead serious. "I don't have the magical or physical capabilities to bring her down. Hopefully, our peer's hex's work but it's better to be safe than sorry. She has to be stopped." His attention was pulled away though when he saw a professor finally arrive on the scene, and immediately shoot a spell at the boy who decided that he wanted to kill a person today.

He glanced up at the darkening sky, that was growing stormy with clouds as if signifying the end, or beginning, of a new era in Hogwarts. One with new threats fast coming, or old threats emerging from the centipede-infested corners of the castle's darkest depths.

Selim liked the rain, but now was a terrible time for it to happen. He quickly replaced his mask, its skeletal visage looking haunting in the flashing lightning, and he pulled his hood up over his head. "I pray to Merlin this isn't the foretelling of even more danger ahead... Good luck, Mr. White." He glanced over, "I'll go bring the professor up to speed." With that he grabbed his staff, the candle in its later flickering wildly in the turbulent atmosphere's wind.

The boy rushed over to the professor's side, the man was the best hope they had to try and assist them now. Students could only do so much, and it was obvious that some weren't mature enough to actually make informed decisions about the situation.

"Prof. Orion, Erin Ryan has been turned into a hag, or is in the process of it. From what I've gathered it has something to do with one of the covens infecting her with slugs, ones that are definitely not normal. I have my suspicions that Marion Davenport is also a hag, some students have run off to chase after her." He looked at the girl who was downed, for now, "Erin has already assaulted three students though, two of them ended up getting bitten by her, some spells have bandaged and or closed those wounds already though. She is without a doubt a threat to everyone's safety as of this moment. Currently, the other students are trying to expel the slugs from Erin to hopefully cure her, but I'm worried that it might be too late. They've been festering in her for a while from what I've seen, and she isn't going to be bound for much longer." He tried to summarise quickly.

Selim had no intention of involving himself in such a dangerous fight. His self-preservation wouldn't allow him to push his boundaries unless it was a last resort. Now he intended to stay on the sidelines of such fights, supporting with healing where he could and making sure everyone was on the same page. Basically, he decided that instead of futilely trying to keep his peers out o trouble he'd keep them from dying with his rudimentary muggle healing knowledge and physical protection from attacks.

How long he'd actually keep his intentions up though was the real question. Hopefully this year he wouldn't lose his grip on his senses and recklessly push himself into danger, be it of the fighting sort or simply by letting himself fall to sickness (Mental or physical).

"I have no intention of getting mauled by a feral girl today, but I can go get the other professors, though I also have some basic first aid skills, so I can keep people from dying until they get to the hospital wing as well. What do you want me to do, Prof. Orion?" He glanced up in question, for some reason he wasn't being thrown into paranoia by just being around an adult and conversing with him. Perhaps that was just adrenaline though, the thought of him actually making progress with basic trust in adults was preposterous.

No, this was him just being more logical than his hysteria-crazed peers, and actually talking to people with way more life experience than him who'd probably be able to make actual informed decisions. IN times of chaos organization was the best defence.

There was also Jack though, getting in the way of spells by being dumb and emotional, Selimc would probably drag him away, but honestly, perhaps the boy would fare better in the future by learning the hard way that hugging rabid half-hag gremlins thirsty for blood was a bad idea. A good chomp on the arm.

Well, that is if 'Erin' didn't just go for the throat immediately after being released from immobulus. That wouldn't be good, which is why Selim was offering to go get the actual medical professional at the school, or offering to stay and assist in binding throat wounds up nice and tight while praying that his dormmate didn't go into shock from the blood loss that would result from his jugular getting eaten by a feral girl.

... When had his life turned into a B-rated action/horror movie again?

Awake with a Kiss

The boy who died was brought back to life once more, albeit in a way that was far more metaphorical than the far more literal interpretation of Victor Moore’s existence, as Ileen Knight ended the freezing spell cast upon him with a simple incantation of the General Counter-Spell. The torturous half-life to which the facsimile of a boy had been brought into was not without its small joys, however, for not soon after his movement was restored, did the boy plant a kiss upon the lips of his saviour. Alas, it seemed that despite the attempts of one Percival Rainwood to take the girl out of harm’s way, her hand would not grip his, and instead she would find herself receiving the affections of another.

So, We Depart

With the escape of Marion Davenport from those rambunctious students that attacked her without provocation, it would only be inevitable that the very same group of ruffians would take off after the “girl.” Thomas LeStrange, Santario Martin, Bridget Collins and Evelynn Decipio, in turn, would depart the chaos of the Festival in search of their prey.

Violence

Jurgen Hess knew what needed to be done. He may be injured, he may not have his wand, yet, he was far from helpless, nor hapless. The pureblooded prodigy would make good on his promise and assault Erin Ryan with a knife. A more barbaric attempt to take a life than many students of magical upbringing would expect, and yet one could not doubt its efficacy. It was only the selfless actions of one Galton Lansdale that threatened to upset his attempt to rid Hogwarts of its nascent hag before she could even be born. The duelling co-captain lunged forward, hoping to place himself in the way of the knife. He was not successful.

Not fully. The boy’s arm reached out to throw the blade off-balance, to this end, he did succeed. Yet, he found himself punished for it. Cold iron drew across the limb, drawing the red liquid of life out of the cut and no doubt sending pain up the boy’s arm. However, in spite of his own injury, Jurgen’s aim remained true. Or true enough, considering. His intention had been to thrust the blade into the neck of the girl, instead, the actions of the so-called Candy King caused the blade to dig into the immobolised girl’s shoulder. Blood from both students would mix on the blade, yet Erin Ryan was not yet dead.

But, perhaps death would be a preferable alternative to what would come next.

Serena Towers finally managed to land a spell upon the bound girl. The effect was near immediate, a sort of writhing visible in her throat, a disgusting sensation that could be traced back to the pit of her stomach and toward her mouth. The girl was frozen in place, forced to stay completely still, as saliva and liquids much more unpleasant were forced out of her mouth, trickling down her throat and chest, intermingling with the blood that had erupted from her shoulder as a result of Jurgen’s knife attack. More writhing, and then a creature out of the depths of hell itself forced its way out of the girl’s mouth. Frozen in place, unable to scream, the blackened slug-like monstrosity all but ripped out of the poor girl’s throat. Plopping down on to the once-immaculate grass and technicolour decorations of the ball, the monstrosity wasted no time in its actions.

With mobility that should not have been possible, and a sense of smell that seemed entirely unnatural, the Hag Slug lunged toward Serena, it’s horrific maw widening and lunging down upon the half-goblin with speed and power hitherto unseen. Blood would seep out of the wound, as the lamprey-like creature latched on to the girl.

The Assault Upon Jurgen Hess

It would seem that attempted murder was not a very popular activity at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. For his behaviour caused a cavalcade of frustration and reaction. Hugh Lowe the enormous boy that had earlier shattered his friend’s skull instead turned to wand work. Alas, his gluing-charm, that same charm his target had used against him failed its test in poetic justice and missed. As did the attack by Serena’s pet rat, Pizza Rat lunged valiantly at Hess, but his teeth just narrowly missed their mark.

So it would fall to Xailah Alptraum to disarm the boy, wrenching the knife from his grip, the blood falling from the blade and on to her own pale hands as she did so. Thomas Baines for his part, however, would be the one to finally put an end to the seer’s reign of terror. His flipendo hit true, and with the impact of unseen force, the light from Jurgen Hess's eyes was forcibly thrust into nothingness. The boy was cast aside by the force of the spell, unconscious, broken and bloodied. He had been tasked with killing the girl before she could turn. It appeared he had failed in his quest.

A Desperate Plea!

Jack Burnett grabbed Erin, the retching, bound girl unable to prevent him from doing so. The girl was firmly in his grip as he pleaded with her to return to herself. The success of such an endeavour would remain yet to be seen. Alas, even if the girl were to be able to move her body, for it seemed the spell would soon wear off, she would not be able to speak. For Henry Knight took away that ability with the casting of the tongue-tying jinx.

The Storm

Time had flown by more swiftly in the preceding hour than many of the students probably had expected. The chaos of the ball, however, was not the only thing that had drastically increased in its pace with the seemingly inevitable approach of midnight. As if on cue, as soon as the slug landed upon the school grounds, the clouds broke overhead. The downpour was immediate, thick, heavy and entirely overwhelming. Rain torrented down upon the Festival, drenching those unfortunate enough to not be undercover. With the rain came thunder, the old gods, Taranis and his ilk, it seemed did not care for the worries or concerns of the students battling for their lives upon the ground. For lightning struck, once, twice, then many more times. The flashes of purple and of white remained in the distance, but not so far as to alleviate the worries of those caught under the black sky.

Yet, the rain and thunder were merely sideshows to the true horror of the storm. The whirlwind was to be reaped, the vicious and cutting winds had been harassing the festival goers for much of the night, but only now did they truly pick up. The sound of speech was near lost over the whipping of the wind, and hair and clothing alike were caught in the wrath of the sky.

In the distance, one could even see the tent which housed the Ball itself collapse under the onslaught.

As far as Hogwarts Balls went, everything was exactly as expected.

"Lin... Lin..." She grabbed her friend's arm, as well as the arm of the cute boy. "Lin... what's going on over there?" This was supposed to be a normal night, a carefree night where she didn't have to worry about boys namely Cody. Now, before her eyes, she was witnessing a knife being thrown, a girl getting spells thrown at her, getting frozen down. She's always considered herself brave, and a girlboss. She's seen scary movies but she's never actually seen the horrors of what fear and anger can drive people to do. That was the only reason someone would be doing this, right? Were they, too, feeling fear dripping in their bones like a poison that takes control? Or were they feeling anger, that drives them, from their minds right down to their knife-holding hands? Whatever it was, Juniper didn't like it. She backed up a few steps as she watched someone heroically jump in the way of the knife. Now two people had been stabbed. She watched in horror as the girl was frozen in place, forced to endure the pain of the blood dripping from her shoulder.

Then came the slug. "What are they doing to that girl?" Was this a wizard thing? To try and murder each other at parties? She watched as a withering thing was ripped from the girl's throat, and as it launched at another girl. Her horror was visibly expressed on her face right as the storm started to come in. In fact, her face might of looked like this;

The wing was terribly strong, and she was glad her frog was back in the common room, safe and sound. Rain pelted down on Juniper, her hair became a sopping mess. She had no makeup thankfully, or surely it would be running down her face.

The wind whipped at the grass and everything around her, and she pushed her dress down, before realizing she had jean shorts under the dress. Her white doc martens would most likely be ruined after this, but she didn't care. Her gaze was over to where she was moments before for the frog choir. She watched the tent collapse. She looked at Lin, then at the boy. "The tent fell over!" She yelled, pointing. "We have to try and help the people in there!" Maybe if they worked together, they could lift up some of the fallen tent. Anything was better than being here, right?

Watching the sparks hit the girl, rending useless to bite another. Henry nodded toward his spellwork and perpared to leave when he caught a glimpse of more leaveing to chase after the presumed hag at least according to the two Viper captains.

Henry lowered his wand, not following the group since he had plans. Plans that he better attend to as he turned on his heel and started to walk back toward the ball to get his feline from Rose when another set chaos played out.

oh come on! Can't there be a break, for five minutes at least! I have a date that I would like to get to....

Henry stopped, looking for a moment as the rain pounded on unsure what to do. Students are bleeding and unconscious. Someome had to help while others continued to fight....

I'll make it up to you, Alexa. I promise, I'll be there soon

Turning around and rushing back in, Henry examined the group trying to find who needed help. The slytherin beater biting everyone was bleeding but Henry decided to stay far from her so instead he made his way toward the unconscious boy.

Grabbing the boy's arms and pulling him off to the side, out of the way of the chaos. Henry nodded toward him and would help him again after he handled the student bleeding.

Walking through the group, Henry recognized the one bleeding as Galton Lansdale; he was the one who oversaw Henry's first duel a while back. Approaching the older year and leavelimg his wand to where the injury is, Henry looked at him as he spoke"I'll take care of the bleeding, you continue to help. Your spellcasting is brilliant after all," nodding toward the boy. Henry would lower his wand onto the boy's injury but he wouldn't cast the healing spell when another sight caught his eyes.

A professor there in the midst of the chaos. Henry watched as Selim spoke to the man, informing him about the group who ran off after a hag and whay happened with slytherin beater.

Henry remembered that Santario called for this professor earlier, the teen figured that he must have heard her. Henry looked across the to where he stood, the third year is normally respectful and kind toward the professors but that night. It was a bir different. The only professor Henry felt like being respectful to is Nigel Read so the third year bit his lower lip than called over to the dada professor.

"Sir! Santario Martin, Bridget Collins, and Thomas LeStranage went after the Davenport girl. Before they left, they mention that she's a hag and could use your help," Henry called toward the man, there were others who went along but the third year didn't know their names and figured it was still providing aid if he only got help for the ones he knew of. Watching the professor, Henry took a breath as he continued"Santario called for you, she thinks that you can help and I may not belive it. She must does." The third year looked at the professor, trying to decide what to say next as the rain came down and lighting striked. A strom was brewing out there... wasn't it.

Henry looked back toward the professor when a familiar cry caught his ears, Henry looked and saw his orange felime running toward him. Soaken wet and.... afraid? Loki ran to his onwer, jumping up and climbing onto hia right shoulder.

The teen soothed his feline as he spoke"are you alright? What's wrong, Loki," the teen knew that his feline couldn't talk but he didn't need to when Henry heard another lightning strike then watched as the ball tent came down.

Rose! Avery!

Two people flashed over the third year's mind as the rain sounded around. One he knew was at the ball and one unsure. Henry knew there would be moee injured there and had to help, especially if Rose or Avery was injured. Hopeing the first year wasn't there as Henry turned to the gryffindor captain ans quickly spoke"you know healing spells, right? I have to go help," Henry would wait for his response before turning and running out to the ball and the rain. Loki gave a low growl from his shoulder.

I'll make it up to you, promise Alexa. But right now, there's others who need help... and I can't leave. I can't...

As Howard made his way onto the scene the chaos would continue to unfold around him, but he did his best to stay focused on the target ahead. Erin Ryan. With a hard swallow he would push down the guilt and pain he felt while looking upon her. Now was not the time for regret, but a call to action. Whether Erin was to be saved or lost forever was yet to be determined and the only thing left to do was join the last ditch effort to save her humanity. Howard would bend at the knees to lower his center of gravity. Long fingers would flex and form into claws as he prepared himself for what was to come.

A familiar scent and a familiar voice rushed to his side. It had been quite sometime since he had interacted with Selim, but his words brought about the final recognition that Howard needed. Erin was becoming a Hag. Whatever lurked inside her was changing her from the inside out. The horrible scarring on her back. The squiggle beneath her skin. It all made horrifying sense now. The very thought of it threatened to derail Howard's train of thought, but fortunately Selim would keep his mind on track. "I'll do what I can." He answered the younger boy's call to arms. It was possible that Howard could overpower Erin and if he could keep her down the rest could use whatever magical intervention necessary. He himself might be caught in the crossfire, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to make. For so long his darker nature had maintained control over his life, but now in this moment he would let his humanity shine through as he prepared to save Erin's. He shifted his weight onto his dominate leg, with a thrust he would begin his pounce.

BANG

A terrible crack would tear through the sky as the heavens threatened to unleash hell upon them. As if to match the terror of the sky the student body would rush into a flurry of activity. What came next would stop Howard in his tracks. Erin's onslaught would be stopped as she was frozen. A flash or silver and a spattering of red as a knife tore through flesh, but that was not what gave the Dhampir pause. His eyes would flick towards Serena as she entered his peripheral vision. Her arm raised as a flash of a spell left her wand. Howard's eyes would watch as the spell hit Erin dead center, but they would widen in horror at what came next. A pouring of fluids would escape Erin's lips as the vile creature within was expelled from her body. Terrifying enough as the slug splatted onto the ground below, but as it lashed out at its evictor Howard would feel true terror.

"SERENA!!" A guttural cry left Howard's lips as the slug sank its teeth into her. The chaos around him dissipated as his body moved on instinct alone. The deafening sound of lightning and rain slipped away. Erin and those around her faded from his vision as it tunneled, leaving only Serena and her attacker in his gaze. His boots tore through the wet ground below as his long legs dashed in her direction. Clawed hands ripped through the air.

XXXXThere was just far too much going on presently. Matt had mistakenly invited both herself and Liana? Yes, they had determined that it wasn't with nefarious intent, that he hadn't meant to do so out of any animosity for either of the two girls or with the intention to drive a rift between them. Still, they were now all sitting there awkwardly trying to decipher what had really happened. Maggie, for her part, was standing stick-straight as she tried to make sense of this whole situation. Would they emerge on the other side of this unscathed, or would Liana somehow blame her for the misunderstanding? God, Maggie sure hoped not. The attempts she had made to get close to Liana were purely genuine and with the hope that she could make a good friend. Plus, Vale was rallying for a good old-fashioned duel, as was Avery.

All in all, not ideal.

On the bright side, Enrico Gathorne added a much-needed sense of levity. Thank god for boys with kleenex costumes and no understanding of emotional depth! Woohoo, Enrico Gathorne!"Oh, yeah, I've got something going on," the fact that she'd been invited to the ball by a boy who had invited one of her (hopefully) close friends as well. That was going on, for starters. But Enrico wasn't talking about the situation at hand. Rather, he was showing an interest in Maggie's attempt at a costume. "I'm Carrie. From Carrie?" She shrugged and scuffed her shoes against the ground beneath.

All of this chit-chat felt a bit disingenuous, though, considering that there were bigger issues at hand, weren't there? But grilling Matt would do no good. Enrico's suggestion may have had some merit; a walk might do them good. Hopefully, it would do them good. For the love of god, it had to do them good. "Let's take that walk, yeah? It'll do us no good to stand here like a bunch of idiots fighting over a boy," the last comment was pointedly directed at Liana and Matthew. The head directed at one more than another, but who was Maggie to say anything at all? "Let's go to that Matchmaking Booth. What about it? See if Vale and Avery have some epic chemistry. Prove that Liana's probably deserving of someone else. Stop fighting over boys. Just spitballing, you know, a few ideas."
