It was her birthday. Rose's birthday. And so she had gathered her money and went to the Magical Managerie in Diagon Alley.
The Magical Menagerie was very loud, full of the noises of animals-meows, croaks, hoots of angry owls- "can't anyone get any sleep around here?!"
Rose walked in, a spring on her step, hearing the jingling of the bell on the door behind her as she shut it. Rose had always wanted a pet of her own, but had never been able to afford one, and neither had her mom. She had been saving up, and finally, she had enough money to buy a pet.
The Pygmy Puffs were adorable, little poufs of pink or purple fur. There were not a lot of them, hunting on their popularity, but they were expensive.
Roads were kinda cool, but they had never appealed to Rose as the most amazing pets. She would rather have something she could hug, something fluffy.
The lizards were really cool, and if Rose was offered a lizard, she wouldn't turn her nose up. But none of the lizards sparked her interest.
Rats had a bad rap, Rose believed. Rats had always been believed as the evil counterpart of mice, always fat and would bite you if you got too close. Rose didn't believe in those bad rap rats. Sure, there could be some rats like that, but these rats at the Magical Menagerie, they were adorable- more like hamsters and mice than the tiny evil sewer demons they were made out to be.
Spiders had always creeped Rose out. Spiders were those kinds of pets that should not be pets, in Rose's opinion. Like baby alligators. They were meant for the wild.
So her choice had been down to either an owl or a cat.
After much consideration, Rose had decided by way of eenie-meenie-miney-moe.
And it had landed on a...
Cat!
So she was browsing through the cat section, where the meows were the most loud and obnoxious. Most of them were excited at her browsing through them, but there was one...
It was in the cage, looking at her, observing her. It was just a kitten, and it had beautiful, thick silver and white fur. She wet her lips and put her hand up to the cage. The kitten sniffed it, her beautiful silver eyes curious and calm. Rose had never seen such a down-to-earth kitten. The kitten rubbed its cheek against the cage where Rose's hand was, an adorable purr erupting from its throat. Rose took one last look at the little kitten, then made her way to the counter.
"Excuse me?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Um, can I buy that cat back there?"
After taking Mrs. Whitikker to the correct cage with the kitten, the kitten was taken to the counter and paid for.
"It's fifteen Galleons for her, dear. She was born the Twenty-fourth of May, so she is ten weeks today."
It was a whole fifteen Galleons, but Rose knew it was worth it. She held up the kitten, looking deep into its silver eyes.
And her mind drifted to Chaska which meant the goddess of stars.
"Chaska," she said, smiling.
"That's a beautiful name, sweetie. Have a wonderful day!"
