Anxiously Waiting Open

Previous Thread: Families

Annabelle sat in a chair outside the Headmaster's office, knees shaking uncontrollably. She had never been to this room before, a fact which she found a bit surprising considering her position. In fact she'd never formally met the Headmaster aside from a simple handshake when she had been made Prefect. Now that she was here, waiting outside in the student chair, she could not shake the feeling that she was in trouble for something or other. The feeling nearly brought her to tears. Still, she had to stay here. She needed to talk to somebody with authority. Her first thought had been to owl the headmaster, but a couple of days with no response had driven her to show up here on her own accord. Kendall could not afford to wait.

The large, engraved door did not make her feel any less intimidated. She did not have to see behind it to know that there lay the seat of ultimate power here at Hogwarts. That was not something she inherently feared, nor something that she desired. Yet she did not want to go in there and ask the question she was about to ask. It would be unbearable to receive a look of disappointment from such an esteemed man. Annabelle admired the Headmaster in the same way a child might admire their great-great-grandfather. To her he was a wise figure, somebody the whole school looked up to. And in mere moments she would have to face him.

Of course she understood that the office was very busy. It was no wonder her owl had not been returned- the school probably got hundreds of owls a day. Thinking of those letters she clutched her own type-written note in a sweaty palm. She had spent so much time reading it over and over again the past few days, wringing her hands so much that the once crisp Muggle paper now felt like thin parchment in her hands. She had waited and waited for a reply, and now here she was eagerly waiting once more. The minutes that ticket by felt like hours. In truth she had no way of knowing how long it had been. Still she sat as patiently as she could in the chair outside the office. She hated waiting... she was so sick of waiting... yet for now it was all she could do.
