Humans are made of flesh and blood. They are born screaming, they live their mundane lives, they age, and they ultimately die. Then there is this intangible aspect deep within some but not all of the people of this world. This spark. This... light or fire or even deep, dark, black pit. She was looking for this... substance that she could not grasp but she could feel. This light and fire and darkness that she could make her own.

So this was a trap. It was always a trap when it came to Erin. People for the most part were keeping a wide breadth between themselves and the Slytherin. Damnable rumors. So here she was, in the abandoned restroom, a space that has for the most part become a site of illicit romances, mischievous behaviors and clandestine meetings. A place that the Prefects frequented due to the measurable rise in deviant behavior. It did not matter to her greatly that some were trouble-makers and some were enforcers of order, when they came here they were isolated and she would either have her way or... she would have her way with effort.

So she stood next to the door to the abandoned toilets, awaiting her next... friend. Yes, friend. Then she would see him, the perfect prefect Gryffindork. She did not know him, he was just some redcoat that spent more than his fair share of the day up some Professor's @$$. "Mr. Perfect." She wondered one thing about him, not if he was worth the effort to befriend - she knew the answer to that already, he was not. Was he cute enough to like-like? Heck no. That ship will belong to someone with edge, like Kaegen.

"Hey Perfect, I mean Prefect!" Erin called out to Hugh through cupped hands. "Need your help down here, come quick!" She was pointing at the abandoned bathroom of course, a false tone of trepidation and concern to convey this false promise of need. She would open the door for him and usher him inside, steeping in behind him if he was compliant. If he was about to play the role of the hero. A predictable series of actions in reaction to his social obligation.

Was he like the rest or was there something else in there? Something that made him worthwhile.

If he entered, he would see nothing in the bathroom. Well, nothing of interest. The dirty windows had not been washed in months, perhaps longer. There were images drawn into the grime, mostly lewd words, a few names reminding the reader of where to go if they needed a "good time" that they should seek Frost or Eris, or Ana. There were no phone numbers of course, there were no phones in Hogwarts, so just names

"What's this girl waving around for?" He mumbled to himself as he made a face of obvious confusion. His nose pulled up and revealed a gaping mouth. Oh, right. Prefect. That's me... The mere thought of him bearing this responsibility still not having fully settled in. He shot a glance outside, where the sun was. His shoulders fell down in the well of disappointment that he would have to delay his break on the grounds just a bit longer. He walked over to the shouting girl, long paces as usual.

As he took halt near her, he shot her an inquisitive glance. Quirked eyebrow and everything. "Anything I can help you with miss?" He gave her a genuine friendly smile. He'd never seen the girl before, she must be one of those shy types. Though she did just shout him over across the hall. She ushered him over to head inside. "Did someone get hurt or something?" He looked down to her before he popped his head in the toilets and set one foot further. "Nice place you've got here..." He walked in, assuming the girl would show him something out of the... ordinary. In an abandoned toilet?

It was easy to tell that whoever was in charge of cleaning this castle, didn't like these toilets. Probably what caused them to be distinctively named in such way. He turned around facing the girl. "So?" There he was hoping this wasn't going to be another waste of his time, that sunny weather really seemed nice.

The Prefect was a giant, standing just shy of a foot taller than the second year. She thought all of the Prefects were lower-classmen this year much like last, an aberrant arrangement she noted the year previous when all of the Prefects were first year students. It was as if there were hardly any upper classmen in the school. "Fascinating," Erin would comment as her eyes were level with his shoulder more than likely. She would not say what was so interesting about the Gryffindor, there were other matters to deal with.

Of course she did not feel much of anything roll off the boy, not that she had put him under any psychological distress yet. That would be an assessment she would initiate shortly as she escorted him inside the abandoned toilets. It was obvious that it was a set-up the moment he stepped inside, nobody was hurt, nobody was fighting, nobody was participating in anything potentially dangerous or damaging. The space was empty, well empty except for the two of them. She would let the door fall closed behind her, the confident, odd girl stood between Hugh and egress from this situation.

There would be a moment of silence. Hugh was unlikely a stupid young man, he would likely recognize immediately that something was off. "I am curious," Erin announced once the door behind her was sealed. "Curious about your..." she needed to find the right word "...value." If he tried to push past her, he was find her to be stronger than expected, she was never a brilliant caster but she more than made up for it in physical prowess oddly enough. "Why are you a Prefect?" Her head cocked to the side as she asked that question and took a step forward, potentially invading his space. The behavior purposeful, meant to place someone in a state of disequilibrium as she made her inquiries. "A first year, beanpole like you. A prodigy?" She scoffed, just like the other eight Prefects and Head Boy that were first and second years. "I bet you believe that?" She observed as she looked him over. He did not look different. he did not feel different. "So what made you a worthy consideration?" She inquired. No, she insisted. There was nothing that she could think of that could make a first year stand out over the likely numerous exceptional students in the other years. And even if there was in his case, that did not explain the others. There was too many of them for it to be that they were just exceptional exceptions.

"You don't feel any different. In fact, I have seen..." actually no, there was no need to compare. She took in a sharp breath.
Permission to Godmod my character successfully or unsuccessfully accosting you if you attempt to push past her.

Hugh's eyes fell upon the shorter girl once he turned to face her, as she came... very. Close. His left eyebrow arching at the other's inquiries and seemingly out loud thinking. The girl had an eerily feeling to her movement and words. As if he had walked right in to some odd noir detective story and he was about to meet the grand schemer of the plot. By his memory, he was convinced she and he had never met. Yet she seemed a whole lot more interested in him than strangers ought to be. It would have scared the crap out of him had she not been shoulder level and somewhat cute.

"My value..."
He gave her a look accompanied by a faint smirk of his. "I'm afraid there little to it. And we're certainly not discussing a prodigy here." He scoffed at the mere thought. "There was a need, and they asked. If I can help my house fair better through being a prefect? I'll do it." He glanced her over once more. "And here I am already giving you all I got for answers while you haven't even given me your name." He opened up his arms and shrugged, all the while smiling towards her. She would find him quite relaxed for now. It was adults and groups that got him nervous not girls leading him in a closed off bathroom. Though he silently admitted this one was very peculiar up to this point. Perhaps this was yet another one of those pureblood folks making sure he knew what his place ought to be.

He walked over to the window and gave the unclean glass a swipe with his finger. A smudge of dirt sticking onto it, clearly showcasing the "abandoned" part in the location's name. "So what's the deal here lass? You want to feel what exactly from me? A knife turning in my side or something shady like that?" He smirked again, slowly turning it into a grin. Not that he was mocking her, he was simply not judging her to be purposefully creepy. "Or are you in trouble and need help?" He frowned at the other, this time showing concern for her well-being. He placed both hands in his pockets and stared her down.

She could not feel anything in Hugh. Whatever value he might have had she could not identify. Perhaps he was worthless, bereft of the spark the drew her like a moth to a flame and ultimately her destruction. He either hid his worth or he had none at all.

According to him, he was pursued. She shook her head, it made no sense. He was not a stand out in any regard besides height. There was a reason that upperclassmen were chosen to maintain order in their House. The later years were chosen for their experience, their skill and their maturity. There was a huge difference between an eleven year old and a sixteen year old in both power and knowledge, he was lacking in both. There had to be a reason for this exception but she could see none. "You're utterly... completely... normal," she concluded. She did not even quench her thirst. "It makes no sense that you would be considered a viable candidate, but you're not gone yet," she mused. Perhaps the worthless was all they had left.

"Erin," she replied granting him an answer to his request for a name. A name mattered little, she was nothing exceptional or worthy of notice.

His back faced her, an unwise decision if he was truly concerned about her plunging a knife in his back. "Why?" She shrugged from behind him. Violence for the sake of violence did not suit her, there was always a reason for her. Always an ends. "You gave me everything I needed already," she affirmed. "I am in no peril," she made a dismissive gesture with her hand. "Sorry for bothering you Prefect."

She sounded almost polite as she started to back away. There was nothing to gain antagonizing him or befriending him. He had no use. "May you last longer than the rest," a blessing? A warning? Perhaps a bit of both. "If you do not last, like the others... Marcus DeWynter, Siege Bal, Sebastian Leeds, Anaïs Jones, Destrian Dayne, Reed Wesley, Anatole Evans, and likely so many others." She named the names of prominent first and second years, all of which Prefects, Head Boys... students that were, the operative word being 'were' active but now were merely ghosts. Forgotten specters whose names in some cases were likely completely forgotten. Students that should not have earned that rank either. Students whom she had lost track of. "Please give them my regards."

The boy frowned as she gave him a list of names and seemed generally disappointed in everything Hugh would say, do or be. The girl was... odd. That was to say the least. Was she jealous? Or sent to him as a test perhaps? No, that would be bonkers. "Ï'm terribly sorry to disappoint you... Erin."He began. His thick accent rolling of his tongue as he spoke. Ï aspire to be just that I'm afraid." He stepped closer to the girl making her exit. "A knight has his duty. Fame or glory is only secondary to the task at hand. So my father taught me."He hesitated as he realized chivalry was presumed dead in this century. With a faint cough he adjusted his wording. "But I will be here Erin. If you ever need a lil' chat." His eyes narrowed for a second as a subtle smirk found its way to his face.

On second thought, this girl was someone curious. It intrigued the boy in an almost scary sense. He did not even notice how his head cocked aside just a little as his mind kept on processing what just transpired in a few minutes. Perhaps even seconds. She was experiemtning. Prodding for information or at least checking on something. As if she was in charge of some super secret spy organization. Her words did leave its mark though. The boy had a vague scratching feeling in the back of his head. A tiny voice asking him questions. Wondering whether he was indeed the right person for this task.

She was disappointed, but Hugh would not really understand why. How could he? He was not listening. He was not hearing her and she had to wonder why. Why did the allegations she make seem unconcerning to the giant first year? He was brushing her off. The interaction felt mechanical. There was no substance to the boy, he was just there.

She took in a sharp breath as she took a step away from Hugh. She had two options right now:
  1. Leave.
  2. Wreck him.
While the options might seem simplistic and the answer obvious, such was not the case for Erin. While Erin's behaviors might appear erratic and irrational to the casual observer, they in fact were not. They never were. By nature the girl was a predator and she hunted a quarry capable of satisfying a need, however this was not about that. Hugh could not satisfy a fat woman with a pizza. No, she was not hunting the Prefect she was trying to find a common denominator among the Prefects given such a rank. She saw the aberrant pattern that the Gryffindor was denying: inexperienced first years were being given roles traditionally being reserved for older, more experienced student wizards. Perhaps the difference between them was her ability to inquire, to not only notice patterns but glean something from them. There was something very wrong in Hogwarts. However, Erin was hardly the hero this school needed or wanted for that matter.

She had to wonder if Hugh was oblivious or if he was a part of the charade. She could not have been clearer that there was something wrong. Something that he seemed to either not notice or fed into a fatal flaw of his such as hubris. It did not matter, either he was a part of it or he was blind to it so he would be of no use to her.

She believed it to be the former, not the later. So her choices were simple: run away or break him. She took another step away from him. She was becoming a girl that took calculated risks for the most part, being reckless left her broken for weeks at a time. She did not regret the risks she had taken, they had intense value for the Slytherin but she could have chosen a safer path or found a more malleable target. She did not know what made him a stand out besides the potential giant heritage that he might have in his family tree.

She chose run. She would address him later.

"No need for a further discussion, I-- must have been wrong," Erin admitted. Her eyes were not leaving him as she said that, his smirk was disconcerting. "I apologize for bothering you," Erin was running away. It would seem like that was the plan: to get as much space between herself and the Prefect before something went wrong.

Of course she was far too paranoid to believe that she could simply just walk away. It did not work like that. If he was somehow a part of whatever was happening, she had made an error in addressing it. She wondered if the door to the bathroom locked. Even if it did, the lock would have been on the inside. The hall would not have anything that she could easily use to barricade the door. No, she needed to lure him someplace else and trap him like an animal.

What is nearby?

As if a light came on in her head, her eyes brightened for a second. Yes, that would "occupy" him. "I should get going before I am late for the party," Erin announced. No, this was not her brother's gathering, this was something she had just made up. She took another step back, she was heading for the door. Without looking behind her she would reach for the knob and give it a hard turn.

She had chosen both: to run and to destroy him. Well, kidnap him. He had more uses alive than dead if he had something to do with all of this. She just needed to stay ahead of him for a little bit.

Going to assume she ran away since it has been a few weeks. I am going to write the follow-up thread as planned now.
