Across from Valencia stood her reflection, peering grey eyes staring directly back at her in the broken and grimy mirror. With clenched fists, she could feel her nails digging into the palms of her hands. It was unlike her to act so afraid, to worry so much as to what others thought. Though what would become of her had people found out? She hadn't much of a reputation currently, but her chances at creating one for herself were surely out the door if anyone were to know. Her grasp was tight, now holding the hem of her robe to keep them steady. She let out a sigh as the young Ravenclaw then lurched forward, hands landing on the cracked porcelain sink. If the bathroom hadn't been so old and, well.. abandoned, perhaps it would have retained it's once fresh white colour. Though now it was nothing but a tattered mess, streaks of black and brown smeared across it.

She had instantaneously been filled with regret upon picking up that book in the library, knowing full well there were bound to be dramatizations and lies. The book she read about Dhampires seemed all so preposterous, though what if they had actually made a point? Was she.. dangerous? 3/4 vampire blood made her less than human. It didn't matter though, it couldn't possibly matter. She was just a child. She couldn't hurt anyone if she tried. She'd never try. Upon arriving at Hogwarts it never occurred to her that she would actually have to come and admit her 'race'. She could put if off, and off.. and off until she graduated. The risk of others trying to hurt her, expel her, kill her even- it was all too great and certainly not worth taking. The question was, how long would she have until she couldn't lie anymore? Must she not let anyone get close to her for the fear of them taking notice?

Her tongue touched the gap where her canines should be, knowing what lie above her gums. A shudder went through Valencia's body, causing her to tear her eyes away from the mirror. She should be proud.. Proud of her family name, proud of their achievements, her achievements. Though instead, a Deathstout- afraid of her own existence.

With shaky hands, she rummaged through her bag to grab the novel again. Dhampires and where to find them. She scoffed, throwing it so forcefully at the wall it seemed to bounce back and land on the ground with a thud. If it were any other case she would be filled with that fear that someone would hear the noise and come to investigate, but no one found themselves in the abandoned toilets often enough. She was safe for now, with the steady beat of the water leaking onto the floor to keep her at peace.

"Ah-ha!"

Tina had had her epiphany very loudly, just outside of her common room on the first floor. How could she have forgotten so quickly? The Abandoned Toilets! She earned a few amused glances, and perhaps a couple of tired eyerolls as she darted off in the direction of the stairs, glad that she'd soon have her mascara, moisturising cream and blush back in her possession. She'd noticed it missing from its usual spot beside her bed last night, and had spent the whole evening and next morning desperately clawing at her brain for where she might have left it.

Being in a separate house from Starlee meant finding... creative ways to meet up and enjoy the usual activities you did with friends. She still maintained that it was an awfully old fashioned system, and an incredibly inconvenient one at that, but Hogwarts liked its traditions or whatever, even when it came with the risk of dividing the houses. She couldn't help but grumble: Headmaster Lear was old as heck. Anyway, the girls toilets was two floors higher and, whilst significantly more hygienic, lacked the privacy you got from the abandoned toilets - at least when someone wasn't hiding away in there from some bully, or dyeing their hair (it was more common than you'd think) - and so they'd taken refuge there the day prior to have their fun. As always, air-headed Martyna Romero had left her bag behind in one of her typical day-dreaming dazes.

Not one to peak in and check to see who she might be disturbing, especially on such an important mission, Tina burst through the squeaking door, her eyes shooting past where Valencia was brooding over one of the cracked sinks, to see where her prize might be. "You haven't seen my..." She didn't bother to keep her voice down as she spoke, unaware of any internal conflict the poor first year might have been having, but her voice trailed off when what she was searching for, quite plainly, caught her eye. Just where she left it: tucked in the corner of the wall was a bright pink, fluffy bag. It looked like everything else Tina owned. "Theeeerreee you are! I've been looking for you!"

She talked to her toiletries bag as though it was a real person, unashamedly ignoring the actual person in her company because of it. The Hufflepuff moved past Valencia and clutched her hand around the bag. She was ready to leave, before she just so happened to catch her reflection.

Martyna frowned. Her eyes looked darker, her lashes short. Was that a pimple? Oh my gosh... was she getting pimples?! Is this what one day without moisturising did to your skin? It was easy to become dependent on make up: one chanced glance at the distorted, cracked girl that was reflected on the surface before her left her huffing, dissatisfied. As she reached into the bag and grabbed her concealer, wiping it around her under-eyes, she spared one look at Valencia. She had had every intention of not bothering with pleasantries, but now they were sharing a space. In the mirror, she tried to catch the other girl's eye.

"Whatcha reading there?" she asked first, noticing the book. "I'm Tina. Hufflepuff." She paused, a thought occurring to her. If anyone knew Tina, they knew that thoughts were just things she had to express, no matter how unrelated or tangential they might be. "Isn't it weird that we introduce ourselves by our houses? It's not like it really even means anything. Except it does, but only because the Headmaster is like, proper old, and likes stereotypes apparently."

The house system had been charming at first, admittedly, but now she wanted the overthrow it.

"Sorry, you can tell me about the book, if you want. We don't have to talk about dumb house stuff."

Voices. Coming from the abandoned toilets.

Everly was intrigued.

Clutching her books to her chest, the Gryffindor was walking at a faster pace, almost tripping over her own feet as she walked. The books felt heavier, but perhaps that was because she had even more to study now after winter break. Either way, the girl kept her head up, arms squished as they tried to carry the weight of the books.

Hearing a shriek from up ahead the hall, Everly perked up, confused and interested. Shoving the books into her bag as quickly and efficiently as she could while walking, her pace only got faster as she followed it to find out what was going on. Everly could briefly recognize the voice but couldn't quite place it, like a toy spaceship in a video game, unsure where to land, zipping back and forth between options. Whoever it was seemed to be looking for something, quite cheerfully if anything. Walking at a pace behind, she paused just outside the abandoned toilets and listened.

Everly wasn't an eavesdropper. Although she did have experience with listening in on conversations that she wasn't supposed to hear, it wasn't something she prided herself on. She stopped outside the doorway and tittered hurriedly, earning some weird looks from passerby. She made a face at them and flapped her hand in a waving motion, signaling for them to carry on. Though the movement didn't do much good, her cover was already blown.

Thanks a lot, people.

Stumbling into the bathroom, bag slung over her shoulder and dragging her down from the weight, she whirled around and her eyes met the scene. The abandoned toilets were looking as good as ever, and amongst them were two girls. One seemed to be deep in concentration with something, the other cheerfully holding up bright, fluffy, pink bag. Everly cleared her throat softly, drawing attention to herself subconsciously.

"So," she began, eyes cast downward and picking at an invisible piece of lint. "What are you all doing here?" Head cocked innocently, a teasing glance from her eyes.
