Go Catch That- Pumpkin??
»-----------------------------------------♡------------------------------------------«Valerie groaned, rolling back her shoulder. Finally, after three long hours of studying and homework, she was finally done. She sighed softly, lifting her book bag higher on her shoulder. The closed her eyes, imagining the warm fire of the Gryffindor common room as she kicked back in a chair and read a nice mystery book. Maybe she could finally finish the one that Lani gave her a while ago. She was always busy with homework so she never really had time to enjoy her hobbies anymore.
She turned the corner entering the small hall. She squinted, seeing a familiar blonde haired, blue eyed girl standing by the wall. "Oh hey, Lani!" she called, running up to her best friend. "Funny seeing you here. I just got done with homework and I was gonna head back to the common room. Wanna walk together? If you're not busy of course. But I don't know why you would be, since it's almost curfew," Val shrugged, nudging her friend.
Suddenly, she heard quick footsteps coming up from behind them. "Uhhh, Lans? You hear that?" she muttered. Were they being watched? Was there an intruder in the castle? Val slowly slipped off her book bag, hanging on to the shoulder strap, using it as a weapon. Conveniently, she had forgotten her wand in her room, but she didn't need it. She was pretty good at defending herself without it, since she had been doing so for seven years to defend herself against her brother.
A large shadow emerged from the corner of the room. "What is that?" she muttered. A horrible beast that had broken in from the forest? The shape got smaller and smaller as the figure turned the corner. Finally, it emerged from the darkness.
"Is that..." Valerie squinted. Surely she was hallucinating."A PUMPKIN?"WC: 302/400 Words

Go Catch That- Pumpkin??
»»———- ꕥ ———-««Lani leaned on the wall, reading her favorite book. She had just finished her essay for Defense Against the Dark Arts and her wrist was cramped from all the writing and erasing. Because of some stupid stuck-up kid in her class, they had to write about "Great expectations of the Hogwarts student" in a 500-word essay. She yawned, about to go to her comfortable dorm room in the Ravenclaw tower, when she suddenly heard a voice. She turned, facing Val, who looked pretty tired. Maybe she had just been doing homework, too. "Sure! We have to go quickly though, Curfew's in about 10 minutes, and I don't want to see what happens to students when they're late..."She suddenly heard quick, heavy footsteps behind them. Lani brought out her wand, ready to defend Valerie and herself. Valerie slipped off her bookbag, holding it in her hand as a weapon. Pretty smart, Lani thought. She needed to note that in her defensive tools list.A shadow appeared in the corner. Lani got her wand ready, thinking of the few spells they learned they learned this week. The creature sneaked from the corner, coming into the light... "Wait." She turned to Valerie, her face blank, but fear building in her voice. "Why is there a PUMPKIN in the hallway? Why is it even moving? Should I try to touch it?" She slowly moved forward, still keeping her wand in her right hand, but reaching out toward the pumpkin with her left. "Maybe it's nice Val." She whispered. "Hey, there little guy. What are you doing out here?"WC: 256/400 Words

Or pumpkin like creature. Whatever it was. "Although I've never read about a magic living pumpkin. But then again, I don't really read books. More like, skim them." She shrugged.
She took a deep breath, approaching the pumpkin cautiously. She held her right hand out, reaching for the orange creature. "Hey there buddy, you're friendly right? Totally not like, deadly or anything?" she poked the pumpkin with the tip of her pointer finger.
Suddenly, the pumpkin turned to her, growling as it smacked her hand with the vines attached to its stem. "Ouch! Hey, what's your problem! I trusted you you little-!" Valerie snapped as the pumpkin ran away. "NOT FRIENDLY! IT IS NOT FRIENDLY LANI!" She called to her friend as she chased after the creature.
"Hrmmm," Valerie pondered as she ran. She was certain she had never read about a living pumpkin like creature in Newt Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. If she had to guess, it was probably a spell gone horribly, horribly wrong.
"Where did that little troublemaker go?" she turned the corner, spotting the orange little mischief maker. "Ahah!" she exclaimed, rolling up her sleeves. "Nowhere to hide now little pumpkin!" she ran at it, diving forward with her arms reaching out. She attempted to grab the pumpkin, pulling it towards her with all her strength. She squeezed it between her arms, attempting to hold it still.WC: 557/400 Words (+ 255)

It seemed the pumpkin had woke up on the wrong side of the.. patch? After slapping one of the girl's hands away it continued rampaging down the Small Hall. The same girl who had tried be-friending the pumpkin would now lunge at it. Bad decision. The girl herself would face plant on the floor as the pumpkin side-stepped. It would erupt into a fit of laughter at the girl's stupidity before ultimately exploding from laughing. A burst of pumpkin guts would spray over the girl's heads. Well that will be fun to wash out..

She opened her eyes to see Valerie covered in the remains of the insane pumpkin, chunks of pumpkin in her hair. "Oh, Val..." She helped her up. "Yeah, that's gonna take a while to wash out. Sorry, I was wrong about the pumpkin. It was insane, not friendly." Lani proceeded to pick up her stuff. How did the pumpkin bounce down the halls on its own? Maybe it had been a new species of alive, rabid pumpkin. She then noticed Valerie looking at her in a funny way. Lani put her hand in her hair. "I'm covered in rabid pumpkin guts, too, aren't I?" She sighed. "Come on. Let's go. I'll drop you off at the Gryffindor common room before I go to Ravenclaws'."She hurried as fast as she could to the Gryffindor common room. What if there were more crazy pumpkins in the school? She shivered at that thought. This year, she wasn't eating anything pumpkin-related. She also didn't want people to see Val and her covered in pumpkin guts. It was kind of embarrassing. Lani stopped at the Gryffindor entrance, letting go of Valerie's hand. "Okay, we're here." She faced Valerie and smiled. "You should hurry inside and remove all that pumpkin... stuff from your hair. Bye." She turned around and rushed toward Ravenclaw tower.Valerie would probably be mad at her for trusting the pumpkin. The more she thought about it the more she realized how stupid she was. The pumpkin seemed kind of cute to her at first, a cute, small, round orange fruit that seemed harmless, walking down the halls. But after the experience she had with it, thinking of pumpkins and anything made with pumpkins made her feel nauseous and a bit dizzy. Next time she faced any magical fruit or vegetable, she would use her head rather than her heart. She also could've used the massive book that she was holding. Why had she not used that? It would've squashed the pumpkin flat. Lani sighed as she trudged toward her house, thinking about all her missed opportunities. Valerie was pretty smart to use her bag as a weapon. She probably had a black belt in Karate, too, so maybe if they hadn't taken Lani's approach, she could've roundhouse kicked the pumpkin into the sky. She giggled, glad her spirits were lifted a bit.WC: 405/400
