It moved.
She swore it did.
Panting, wheezing, out of breath, whatever you wanted to call it, the third-year swore by the entirety of Merlin's wrinkly skin she had seen and witnessed the impossible. You see, it wouldn't as much of a groundbreaking discovery as one would think but she had never seen it done in all her years at Hogwarts. She had seen her fair share of things but the one thing that should not have been possible had just become possible. Elena had always thought those stony-faced looking suits of armour that lined the various corridors of the castle did just that, they just stood there in their stationary positions looking tough as nails but not serving any other actual purpose. Today, she had learnt that was very much not the case. It was a normal day just like any other day and Elena had been walking the halls and the metallic statue had moved it's arm as if in a greeting gesture. Maybe she was imaging things but it had discombulated her in all sorts of ways.
Maybe she was under the effect of a Memory Charm or something, Elena had quickened her pace trying to find a hallway or something that was not littered with the suits of armour. It had to be a prank, a joke of somethings. Maybe someone was pulling her strings, it just didn't seem possible. Unforunatly for the Gryffindor however, those great big hulking armour things seemed to be here as well as she locked eyes with one of them non-moving but at the same time, she didn't trust it. "You're like the others, aren't you?" She was speaking to it. Great. Elena Jangleton was trying to make converstation with a non-sentient object or so they all thought. As far as she was concerned, if it could move, it was sentient and unless she was hallucinating, she had witnessed with her very own two eyes one of these things do exactly that.
"Come off it. Wave or something. Your friend did it." She told the silent, imposing knighty statue sternly. A part of her was sincerely hoping it didn't actually do what was being requested, the last thing she needed was one of these things to be chasing her through the halls. That raised the question however, why had it gestured to her? Why had it felt the need to do that exact movement at that exact time. Was it something about her? All of these thoughts were swirling around in her head as she attempted to invoke some sort of response from something that in all her three years at this castle, should do nothing of the sort. Maybe they did all the time and she just didn't notice, Elena would hardly be surprised given the things that happened around here as of late. "We're gonna play the silent game, are we? I'm not dumb!" She said rather hotly eyeing the statue up and down. It had to be real, it just had to. She briefly wondered for a moment if she was dreaming but then shook her head. If she was, why on earth would it have to with something like this. The variables just didn't add up and it was beginning to irk her a bit.
She swore it did.

Opeila had been convinced for weeks now that actually everything in this castle was somewhat alive or enchanted. The portraits were chatting, ghosts floating around, some staircases fooling students with tricksteps, even some doors were just walls, pretending to be doors. The weirdest place Opeila had ever entered but she could just live with it.
Though that seemed to be her way and not everyone's. It was an afternoon that the second year paused on her way to the library because she heard something awkward. Not that the girl's voice was awkward, but what she said was. A Gryffindor girl stood in front of a suit of armor, demanding that it moved. Accusing it of being alive? Opeila understood where that came from. A few times she had stopped in the corridors, because she had been sure that something moved, she had seen it in the corner of her eye. But nothing would happen. Some forms of life, and Opeila was sure that it included more than those armors, were well hidden from the students of Hogwarts. Maybe even the professors.
After a moment, Opeila decided to walk over to the girl. Maybe there was a way they could prove together that those armors were enchanted. If not, well, she was making a bit of a scene that caused students, that were walking by, to stare at her. "Hi!", Opeila said and cleared her throat. "Did it move? I swear they do sometimes." The Slytherin now looked at the armor too. "I feel like they are just there to scare us. And if we look properly, they are just empty armors." From what the girl had shouted at the armor earlier, she had noticed it too, but cared more than Opeila did. "Er, my name is Opeila, by the way.", she added.

The new, feminie voice caused her to jump a bit as at first, she had thought it had come from the imposing knightly figure that still refused to show any signs of life. She tilted her head to find another girl probably as curious as her who seemed rather invested in her current course of action. "They gotta move!" Elena said rather confidenly in response to the question poking the breastplate of the statue in question staring at the helmeted head as if willing it to move. "I mean, that one down there waved at me!" She said pointing a finger down the corridor where another one almost identical in nature to this one like it hadn't moved any inch of it's body in the decades it had resided within Hogwarts. One might say she was crazy, losing her marbles but Elena knew what she saw. You couldn't fool her, these things actually moved and that was a fact she was having diffculty grasping. "Elena." The Gryffindor said in response to the introduction before giving the statue another poke, this time a bit more forcefully.
It had to give some sort of reaction or did it just have a really high pain tolerance? The thought did cross her mind for a few moments but having to explain to a professor why she deemed it necessary to explode one of the castle's fine statues into a billion pieces for the sole reason of seeing if it was sentinet did not seem like a very good plan of attack to her. "I mean, think about it!" She said to Opeila attempting to justify her current course of action. "Why can't it move? The portraits can! They just choose not to." If this all wound up being false, she was going to come out of this very embarassed and very irked but until they were proven otherwise, she would attempt to force a reaction out of this knight. She eyed the sword it held in one hand, the metallic thing could easily skewer them but she didn't want to anatgonize it. A wave, a head turn, something to convince her that they were indeed not just deadbeat dummies.
It sounded improbable in her head that as many of the things that littered the hall, not a single one harbored any particular qualities than being a wall decoration of sorts. They were so great in number that people barely noticed them at this rate and that, Elena suspected was part of why no one really would notice if they did twitch an arm or something. "You reckon they can feel stuff?" She asked curiously tapping the suit of armour with the back of her hand, the metallic clangs resounding down the hallway. One day or the other, it was gonna respond to her intrusive attempts. "What do I have to do to get you to laugh or something?" Elena would say to the inanimate object as if having a perfectly normal converstation. Did they laugh? She didn't know but that was part of the sole reason she was here. Elena Jangleton was going to solve the case of the mute, unmoving, knight even if it held a shield big enough to dwarf both of them and a very pointy sword.
"Please?"
Maybe they could beg it. Tug at it's emotions if it had any. She was just thinking of the first thing that crossed her mind. Merlin knew what the other girl was thinking of all this, perhaps the fact that Elena Jangleton had indeed gone nuts. It would not be the first time.

The Gryffindor girl seemed very confident in her belief that the armor was able to move and in all honesty, Opeila was quite certain that they were as well. They just enjoyed playing dead whenever someone looked. Like- Please, what inside this castle was not enchanted?
... Or, if what the girl, Elena, said was true, they actually did interact with students. Elena continued poking the armor and asked why it couldn't move, while the portraits could. "I'm sure it can! I think it doesn't want to. It's mocking you." Opeila tilted her head a little, looking at the metal figure thoughtfully.
Elena asked Opeila if she thought that they could feel something. The Slytherin shook her head. "No. I don't think they are like living beings with nerves and such. They are just objects that were enchanted. I wonder if they understand what we are saying right now." If they were like portraits, they most certainly could. Were they able to communicate and just decided not to? "I mean, we could try and cast the dancing feet spell on it. I just hope we won't get detention for that...", she suggested to the older girl. "Or maybe we have to make them feel not watched. Hide somewhere or so. Do you think they walk away sometimes? I feel like in my first year I tried not to lose orientation by remembering were the armors were... It didn't work."

@Opeila Winters
Mocking her? This thing was having a laugh at her expense. This metal man who's sole purpose was to be nothing but a piece of decorative furniture at the present moment was seeking entertainment at the expense of her actions? Elena cast it a horrified look as Opeila brought up the suggestion shaking her head at that. That just wouldn't do and if anything, it only heightened her resolve more that she was now obligated to get at least some sort of reaction out of this medieval creation from the Middle Ages. Elena didn't know how long they had been there, you would think there would be some rust or something on them by something. That was the other thing, they were alwasy so spot-clean without a speck of dust to be seen anywhere coupled with the glint of the armour. Perhaps it was part of the house-elves cleaning routine or something as she took a few steps back from it.
The Dancing Feet Spell was a good possibility as she debated the proposal "As fun as that sounds, I don't exactly fancy having to deal with a pointy sword if this thing does come to life." The Gryffindor said eyeing the arms the knightly figure held and suddenly, she realized how this also had the potential to turn very lethal. Did they get ticked off? If so, she was not trying to find out the hard way but the girl's next suggestion made a lot more sense to her. It was a good pretty rationale, maybe the reason the thing wasn't budging an inch in the first place was because it didn't exactly fancy spilling all it's secrets to the student body. If word got out that the omnious statues that guarded Hogwarts could move, she was sure there would be more than a few adventurous souls who would take to the corridors in an attempt to find out for themselves and she wasn't sure they would take to the intrusion very kindly.
"Hiding it is then." The brunette said eyes shifitng as if trying to gauge a possible spot where they could camp out and continue with their little survelliance operation they had going on here. You didn't exactly have a whole lot of options being out in a wide and open corridor though there was an alternative. "Maybe we can duck into one of the doorways or something and just peek out to see if the thing rumbles to life." Could it hear what they were saying? The more the fourth-year dwelled on the topic, the more paranoid she seemed to get about this particular mysterious concept that eluded her. It had to move, her own two eyes had not lied to her but it was just a matter of proving it now. Either that or she was witnessing some sort of hallucinations, the girl would not leave this hallway until the burning question of the day was resolved.

Elena seemed horrified by Opeila's thought that the metal suit in front of the two girls might be silently mocking them. Opeila didn't mind it so much, rather the contrary, she was almost certain that it was exactly what was happening. Like... seriously, out of everything that could be normal inside the castle, why on earth would it be the armors? No, of course it was not moving because it didn't want to. It definitely could.
The older girl did seem to at least consider Opeila's suggestion to cast the dancing feet spell on the stubborn thing, but then said she didn't want to deal with that sword if it might actually make it come to life. The Slytherin shook her head. "It wouldn't attack us. If there was a creature hiding in some empty broom cupboard, sure, I would not provoke it, but those armors are seen and tolerated by the professors. Surely they wouldn't allow them in here if they were dangerous, would they?", she argued against Elena's concerns.
Yes, hiding and waiting was probably the safest option, so Opeila pointed to an empty classroom to their left. "I don't think it can see us if we stay there." If Elena followed, Opeila would go over to the room and almost close the door, only leaving a small gap to be able to check if everything was still the way it had been before. "Alright. So... What do we do, while we wait?"
Was this how Opeila had imagined to spend the next hour? Absolutely not, but she was curious as well. Maybe this was the chance to get actual proof of one thing inside the castle.

The girl had an point, Elena surmised. They wouldn't blatantly go out and start poking a bunch of kids just because they were being a tad bit of an annoyance. These suits had manned these halls for hundreds of years, Elena was willing to bet they were not the first ones that had undertaken this sort of task and they would most certainly not be the last. Still, it was poking away at her and she just needed some visual confirmation that these things were actually capable of physical movemnt before her curiosity was satisfied. Shooting the rigid form of the suit of armour one last fleeting glance, she followed Opeila off to the side into a empty classroom watching as she propped the door so that it allowed them a small gap from which they could observe without being detected or that was the plan at least. She reckoned they might as well get comfortable because if Elena knew anything about these suits, they could stand for hours on end without budging. The two girls on the other hand were probably not capable of doing such a thing before their knees started aching.
They might as well strike up some converstation while they were. After all, the idea of spending every passing second staring at something wasn't exactly how she had thought she would spending a day at the castle but sometimes, you had to do things a certain way in order to get answers. It was a bit like solving a mystery except in this case, it was going to be a very painstakingly long process. "I have a feeling we are gonna be here a while. We might as well relax a bit." Reaching into her robes, she brought out two Chocolate Frogs offering one to Opeila if she would take it. The corridor was eeriely quiet and the statues stood there imposing as ever. This could go two ways, it could be Elena was just seeing things and the things had never moved or maybe the statue was aware it was being watched and refused to budge a muscle as a result. Whatever the case, the two of them would be hunkered down there until they called it quits or got an answer that had probably been sought for years on end now that she thought about it.
Elena reckoned the both of them probably looked like they were up to no good peeking out of an open doorway but as far as she could tell, the coast was relatively clear. "I reckon we're the only ones who care enough to do something like this." The seconds seemed to tick on and on and the stillness of the corridor seemed to be unchanging. Still, Elena refused to budge. Her mind was coming to various conclusion and all of them ended with the answer that the thing had to move. It had gotten here somehow and it didn't seem like the type of thing you could just conjure up out of thin air. Shifting her positon for a moment, the Gryffindor heard what she swore was a faint creak of metal shifting and her head snapped up to stare at the suit of armour. It seemed to have not moved not a muscle but she swore the sound was real. "You heard that, didn't you?"

Elena spoke out what Opeila was thinking- The two girls would likely be here for a while, so they might as well just relax and talk for a while. The Slytherin sat down and crossed her legs, putting down her bag next to her. "Who would have thought that we'd end up here today...", she said and chuckled lightly, "It is a little absurd, is it not?"
Gratefully she took the chocolate frog Elena offered her. "Great, thanks! Honestly, I should really start to carry snacks around with me, they are all up in my dorm." Opeila looked outside through the little gap for a moment before she carefully opened the chocolate frog box. Immediately she covered the open package with her hand, before the frog could jump out. "Got you.", she said and lifted it to her face with two fingers. "I wish they wouldn't move, I always need to remind myself that they are not actually alive", she admitted, lifted her other hand and broke off one of its hands. Immediately the spell that was on the frog wore off and it froze, making it possible for Opeila to eat it more comfortably.
On her date with Percival last year he just bit the head off, something that she could not bring herself to do as long as it was still moving. Instead, Opeila had looked at the card, which she did as well now. "I got Hermione Granger!", she called out with a smile. The young Slytherin had admired the woman since she knew of her existence, which was pretty precisely two years, thanks to her father who had not wanted her to get in touch with the wizarding world as long as it wasn't necessary.
She offered the card to Elena. "Do you want it? I already have her."
Opeila was just finishing her frog, when Elena spoke up and asked her if she had heard something. The second year stopped chewing on the frog and listened. Was that... metal? She turned to look through the gap outside, but the suit of armour stood still. At least... the one that had been question earlier. "Elena, look!", Opeila whispered and pointed at something Elena would not be able to see from her position. Her green eyes were locked on a second suit of armour that was currently in the process of taking its sword into the other hand.

She watched with some form of amusement as the other girl snagged the frog with practiced hands. It proved for a very entertaining sight as long as you managed to remember the fact that these weren't real frogs, they were just..different as the brunette got to work cracking open her own sweet to see who exactly would come out of it. Her face contorted into a rather confused expression as Elena read off the name. "I got.. some old bloke. Bowman Wright.." She noted with interest the Snitch that was flitting about in his picture and presumed he had something to do with Quidditch holding it up for Opeila who had managed to pull Hermione Granger, a rare find these days and an offer the Gryffindor was all too willing to take. Maybe it was just luck or something else as she spared a glance towards where the suit of armours stood ever un-moving, luck was certainly not helping them in that regard.
"Trade? My Wright for your Granger." Maybe Opeila could decipher just what exactly this wizard had done that was so notable to earn him a spot on a Chocolate Frog as the girl pulled off a leg chewing on it rather causally. 'That'd be so gross. Imagine if it was a live frog." Elena shuddered at the thought making a face. This way, however, they were well-set with idle chatter and a few snacks that would energize them. Elena wasn't exactly sure how long they would be camping out here but she was postively sure that the blasted things had to at least move somewhat at some point in time. Sure, they were good at their whole rigid pose and whatnot but everyone had their flaws and if Chocolate Frogs could hop, portraits could move then Elena firmly believed that the metal warriors that manned the halls of Hogwarts were capable of such things too given enough time and perhaps a little bit of privacy which was what exactly the duo was trying to give them.
The sound they had heard earlier came again and while the Gryffindor had probably dismissed it at first her interest piqued by whom had come out of her treat, this time, Opeila's hushed whisper caused her to scoot forward a few inches as much as she would dare to see what exactly what it was. The brunette had to exert every atom of energy into not yelling with excitement watching with rather shocked eyes as the suit of armour transferred the sword in it's hand to the other slowly but defintely moving. "That just happened, right?" She asked making sure she wasn't going nuts blinking a few times. No, Elena had defintely seen it, an discreet gesture that no one would have noticed if they weren't paying attention but maybe that was why they often went unoticed. The movement was so subtle, so routine and discreet that among the crowds of students, that would hardly be something you would take notice of but it certainly was something that was confirmed now.
She was right, Elena wasn't nuts as she pulled back turning to Opeila grinning from ear to ear. "It moved! We were right!" She stated saying it moreso for herself. Sure, it had been just something simple but it was enough to tell her that her theory had turned out right and that was good enough for Elena Jangleton.

Opeila smiled when Elena suggested the trade. Bowman Wright was a name that seemed faintly familiar, but then the young Slytherin had also spent a lot of time collecting cards over the last years. It was quite possible that she had all of them now. Hermione Granger was a rare one, as she knew well, but she was only too willing to hand it to the older girl. "You can keep both, if you want. I already have him."
Surprised she looked up again when Elena commented on her breaking off body parts of the frog. Finally someone who felt like she did! "I know, right? I struggle every time, but I rather break off a piece than biting it off while it still moves. That would be even more disgusting." Actually it was pretty close to how Opeila imagined the Slug Vomiting spell to feel, although that was probably a bit far. She looked at Elena a little longer and suddenly realized something. "Hey, you play Quidditch, right? I think I remember you from one of the matches!", Opeila asked excitedly. She wasn't a big fan of the sport, but she usually watched the Gryffindor ones because of Gris and the Slytherin ones of course.
When the suit of armour started to move, Elena moved next to Opeila to be able to see what she was seeing. Only in time, a moment later it finished its action. "Yes, yes, that did definitely happen!", Opeila cheered, smiling widely at the Gryffindor. It was then that she remembered that she had walked through the halls with a plan that had nothing to do with watching suits of armours and alarmed she looked down at her watch. "Oh, damn... Well, this is good timing, because I really need to go now... It was nice to meet you Elena." Hastily she got off the ground and collected her things before she left their hiding place, waving at Elena one more time.
Opeila has left the Thread.
