Katrina was in a bit of a grouchy mood. She had woken up an hour earlier than she had intended to with Boomerang on her chest demanding breakfast. The entire day she had been in a bit of a tired haze. The second year had hardly made it through the day without falling asleep. It was a slow day in and of itself, the cloudy skies and slowly dripping rain made a sort of soundproof fog over the entire school.

She had intended to do her homework in the Gryffindor Common Room, but the place was loud and people were chatting and being exceptionally distracting today contrary to the entire rest of the school. So instead of doing her work there, she slipped on a red Gryffindor hoodie and black leggings, grabbed her sketchbook and homework and snuck into the Small Hall intending to be left alone to her work.

Of course her luck had to be failing today. Boomerang, her little orange feline, proudly strode in the cavernous room only moments after his owner had sunk into a chair and opened her work. He leapt onto her chair and began furiously purring, demanding attention. Katrina pushed him away so she could actually read the assigned potion work, only to have her kitten fall into her lap and begin licking himself.

"Boomerang!" Katrina groaned, heart twisting with love for her familiar, "All right, fine, as long as you let me actually read my schoolwork you can stay there,"

Seconds slipped into minutes and the girl and her pet reached a happy medium, both content with their work. It was only a strange laughing noise distracted the 12-year-old and she perked up her head befuddled and curious to what was making the almost magical sounding giggles. It certainly was a student, was it?

Grace was enjoying a book, eating a cookie her mother had sent her, it was chocolate chip with caramel, her favorite.

The tiny Ravenclaw was walking down the hall, trying to hide behind anything she could while walking, but her shortness already was doing that, nobody noticed her tiny figure.

Grace often didn’t like to listen to conversations or gossip much, but one voice caught her attention.

"Boomerang!" the voice of a girl Grace didn’t know said.

She had red hair with a streak of teal and hazel eyes, she had a Gryffindor hoodie and she was accompanied with an adorable cat.

Grace knew her as the girl who lost her parents in a fire, many people talked about it, but Grace ignored that.

Grace loved animals a lot and let out a squeal when she saw the cute cat.

“Your cat is adorable! Can I pet it?” the small girl asked, with a smile on her face.

Grace loved animals a lot, she did hate insects though.

The First Year was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt with little birds on it and some black ripped jeans, and her waist length blonde hair was in a ponytail, showing her bright blue eyes more with her hair out of her face.

Then, Grace, and the Gryffindor, heard a strange giggle come from somewhere.

“What was that?” Grace asked, her eyes wide and her eyebrows raised.

Whatever it was, Grace was scared.

Katrina heard footsteps approach and looked up. There was a smaller girl standing beside her. She had really long blond hair and light blue eyes. Katrina didn't recognize her immediately and decided to just wait for an introduction. The girl seemed a bit excited to pet Boomerang and Katrina gave a half hearted smile.

Katrina picked up Boomerang, awaking him from his slumber. She pet his back to allow him to wake up some and he stretched his back before taking a few steps onto the armrest of the large plush chair. He then sat there expecting more pets and had a regal disposition about him. Katrina couldn't help but silently scoff his huge ego.

At the sound of the giggles again, the new girl-- Grace! That was it! Turned to the sound seeming to also take note of the strange laughing.

"I'm not sure," Katrina squinted her eyes at a corner where a lit candelabra proudly displayed a flame, "Should we go see?"

Without really waiting for an answer, the Gryffindor stood and tucked her Potions book back in the large pocket in the front of her sweatshirt. She began walking tentatively towards the peculiar noise. There it was again. A chiming giggling sound. Katrina raised an eyebrow. There was a noise but nothing there to cause it. She couldn't help but wonder if she was about to be a victim of a prank.

Just as she debated turning around, there was a flash of orange light. Something was flitting around the candle. Katrina turned back to the girl-- Grace-- with an excited expression. "There's something over here," a touch of much needed excitement leaked into her voice.

The Gryffindor obviously was brave about this thing giggling "Should we go see?" she asked Grace.

Grace’s scared expression morphed into excitement, being here at Hogwarts obviously meant adventure at every corner, so Grace nodded.

The Gryffindor didn’t really wait for the tiny First Year to answer and walked to the sound.

Before Grace follow, she began to wonder what this Gryffindors name was, she think she heard it before while hearing the rumors.

Katherine? Karina? Then Grace remembered that it was Katrina.

Grace wasn’t one to listen to rumors, but people often forget she’s there and while she’s trying to read, she hears their conversations.

The Ravenclaw did feel bad for the girl, but she shook the thoughts away and followed Katrina.

Grace turned her head to the orange cat and turned to Katrina “Are we taking your cat?” she asked her, tilting her head to their side.

Grace then remember the cookie in her hand was still there, and the chocolate was melting on her hand.

The Ravenclaw quickly ate her cookie without chocking and wiped her hand with the napkin it came with.

The Ravenclaw heard another one of those giggles, she squinted.

This is going to be fun.

Katrina further gazed at the little fleck of orange and saw that it looked like a little butterfly. Katrina remembered reading about the tiny bugs-- Flitterbys.

"Hey-- Grace, is it?-- well, I think it's a Flitterby, harmless little critters. But maybe it's stuck... want to help get it out?" Katrina smiled. There was never a boring day in the Hogwarts Castle for Witchcraft and Wizardry. Boomerang jumped up at Grace's mention of him and wandered over, rubbing himself against her legs.

Katrina looked around for a cup to keep it in. When there was nothing to use, Katrina looked at her hands. She jumped up to cup the little critter in her palms, but it bounced up before she could grab it. Several failed attempts later and she was tired from having her hands above her head.

"How are we going to get it out of here?" Katrina puzzled out loud to Grace. It seemed to know when she was about to jump up and knew to fly up higher. She needed to surprise it. Sneak up on it in order to catch it.

This was exciting. Katrina felt a smile pull at her lips. She was actually enjoying herself. It had been a long time since she had really felt this excited.
