Valentine's Tea

♠ Open to Interactions ♠
♦ Quietly Observing ♦

This was a mistake. Xailah didn't even know what Valentines Day was, or that it even existed. The child didn't even know what a crush was. And from what she understood, 'Crushing on someone' meant that someone was physically squeezing someone else, to the point of compression. Which did not sound very nice. She didn't even know what it felt like to have an interest in someone. And with an undiscovered fear of commitment, or anything romantically related, the poor lioness was going to be in for a scare.
Again this was a mistake. She had not been notified that there was an event of sorts, going on in the Small Hall. So she was unaware of what she was currently walking into. Both Xailah and her cat Schrödinger, would be greeted with the ugliest seating arrangements either had ever seen. Schrödinger of course couldn't voice his opinions, but by observing the way he drew his ears back, one needn't ask. Xailahs pupils would draw themselves into little slits. It was her silent way of saying 'I don't like this, this is horrendous'.

But would she turn back? Would she turn tail, and pretend like she didn't see what had happened to the room? No. She would not. She was far too curious of a creature to do so. To turn down an opportunity to observe the grotesque would be uncharacteristic of her. At first she wondered if she had just walked into a strange club meeting, that she had not been invited to. But then she saw the flying professor, standing in a god-awful outfit that vaguely resembled photos, someone would take at a crime scene. Truth be told, Xailah was scared of the flying professor, for no particular reason.
Xailah and Schrödinger would find their way to a table in one corner of the room. Schrödinger would take his place on the surface of the table, as per usual. Xailah was a little splotch of black, among the sea of pink- so noticeable, yet so invisible all at the same time. She didn't really recognize any of the other people in the room, other than Professor Bercegeay. Yellow eyes would follow the flying professor around the room, contemplating if it was too late to just book it out the door.

Before me, you rightly tremble. But, fear is not what you owe me. You owe me awe....

Sola has never seen so much pink in one place. It was... odd. Not sickening, but not pretty. If anything, she would call it excessive. Of course, Sola was not really helping with what she was wearing. She had wanted to borrow a nice "tea party type" dress and had managed to borrow one from a Second Year girl living in the Narcissa dorm. All the girls there seemed to have lavish tastes and fancy clothes and fancy... everything. Including this dress.Waves at @Olphie Bercegeay
It was frilly and lacy and flowery and... too big. The waist of the dress was sitting around hips and the skirt came to her ankles where it was meant to come to her shins. She'd had it pinned a bit around the back to make it fit better, but it still felt a bit loose. That girl had pretty much gone to town on her entire appearance, trying to make her look as "tea party-ish" as possible. She had little bows tied in her short bob of brown hair, and a bit of lipgloss that she was sure she had licked off by now. The shoes seemed to fit at least, and they were flat, luckily. She was already nervous enough; she didn't need to be stumbling around in heels too.
She saw the professor and waved at her as she went to get some tea. She liked sweet teas the best. Perhaps this would be where she met some more friends. She could never have too many. And maybe some of her friends were already there.

@Vikka Rieresgaard Hey, this cool tea party thing is happening for Valentines day. In case you want to join in, consider this an invite (You get house points, and will probably have the professor mispronounce your name and ship you with someone. What could be better?)

Valentine's Day... This year really was opening all sorts of firsts for the young Ravenclaw. Although the thought of mushy feelings of crushes and love made Lark start feeling a bit uncomfortable with what had been going on this year, she still wanted to go to Professor Bercegeay's Tea Party. She hadn't spoken much to the Professor but maybe some sort of wealth of boy.. knowledge would spring forth that she could take into her future years at Hogwarts. Or so she hoped. Plus, house points were involved so that was always a bonus.
Hoping she hadn't spent too much time agonizing over outfits, in case a certain boy showed up, but settled on a simple pink dress with a lace off the shoulder top. There hadn't been a mention of what would be proper attire so deciding on comfy and casual versus a bit more formal had meant waking up much earlier in the morning to decide just what would be a happy medium.
Walking into the hall Lark felt like she could've been knocked down with a feather. It was gorgeous! Trying to hide her excitement she eyed the pink decor and seating. Part of her wasn't shocked after seeing the birthday party setup that the Professor has set up over Summer. Still, what a sight!
It appeared that there was already a decent amount of others that had entered the hall and were either seated or chatting with one another. Some of them she did recognize, a couple from the Frog Choir errand, one of the boys Lark was still uneasy at the sight of. She wasn't sure how to really gauge his mannerisms and so decided it probably best to steer clear of him so he couldn't pick on her like her had the girl over toad house options. Anxiety started to prickle at the back of her neck and made a few strands of her silvery hair turn to a reddish tint.
Standing off to the side observing everyone, Lark sent out a little wish that Ruthie would show. She had bugged her friend to join her but hadn't run into her in the Common Room on the way down. Catching a glimpse of the Professor off to one side of the hall Lark considered going over and greeting her. Fiddling nervously with the hem of her dress, Lark eyed the others trying to decide on who might be okay with her introducing herself.

Valentine's Tea
It only took about half an hour for the small hall to be filled with students. There were so many unfamiliar faces... No, there was Persephone Barret, the arrogant Slytherin girl from the lake. And there was the Gryffindor she had walked in on in the rehearsal room.
Anyway, she wasn't going to sit around and wait, like almost everyone else seemed to do. This would be a funny day, everyone just sitting alone.
But who should she talk to? Opeila looked around, her hands were playing with the fabric of the green dress she was wearing. Then she saw Ruka. The Gryffindor looked quite uncomfortable.
Opeila got up from her seat and walked towards the second year. "Ruka!", she said smiling. "Waiting for your date?"
She looked at the others once more. The Slytherin wasn't surprised, that almost everyone didn't have the courage to date someone. She didn't either, but she was glad, that a friend of hers was here, so she didn't have to just sit around alone. Was Ruka a friend? Opeila wasn't sure. She liked the Gryffindor, but she was careful about making friends.
Her gaze fell on his shoes. "I like your shoes.", she said. Today she had regretted her choice from a few weeks ago, not to bring any better shoes with her. The ones she was wearing right now, looked ok, but were nothing anyone would call nice. Her mother had been under the impression, that an eleven year old didn't need special shoes. She had probably been right.

Valentine's Tea

@Jack Burnett
A Valentine's Tea party. As much as Evelynn enjoyed a lovely afternoon sit-down, this was not her typical cup of tea, so to speak. Like the great majority of the other students at the school, she was a child. Eleven. "Crushes" was a concept familiar to her in the sense that she had heard of boys and girls as early as kindergarten coming home to tell their families of boyfriends and girlfriends they had at school, but she had never been of such a mind. Her love was limited to school and the great outdoor atop the back of a galloping horse. Not in the hand of some silly little snot-nosed brat who didn't know the true meaning of love. So when Evelynn had heard there would be a Valentine's Day themed tea party, she almost passed it by.
Almost.
Unfortunately for Evelynn, in accordance with her devotion to school and study came a loyalty to her house, and the promise of a few measly House Points were enough to tempt her to begrudgingly investigate. Seeing as it was still the middle of winter, however, the young cub did not dress as many of the other girls had chosen. In her opinion, it was far too chilly in the stone corridors and expansive rooms of the castle for thin fabrics and frills. Instead, she donned a casual gray layered dress over lighter grey woolen leggings, her black boots, and a charcoal zipped long-sleeved jacket.
Evelynn just about reeled upon entering the Small Hall. To say that she was impressed by the room's make-over would have been an understatement. Not that that was necessarily a good thing. As much as the colour pink was a classic, pair-able with a great many colours, it had a time and place. And most importantly, a need for moderation. Clearly, however, moderation was not a term found within Professor Bercegeay's vernacular. The room was positively vomiting pink.
Once she had overcome that initial shock, however, the cub steeled herself and proceeded inside. What she found was not what she had expected. Already, there must have been a dozen or so students gathered in the hall, but for a tea party, it seemed to lack a certain sociality. With the exception of a few tables, very few students seemed to be interacting. What was more, one student in particular seemed to stand out like sore thumbs. She glanced to the girl in black sitting in the far corner, her cat nearby. She had an interesting air about her, one that drew Evelynn's attention longer than she had intended. For a moment, Evelynn found herself wanting to walk over to make her acquaintance, to solve the mystery of the intrigue. Just as she shifted her trajectory in that direction, however, Evelynn glanced to the other conspicuous individual. And froze.
Out of his robes and wearing a pale pink shirt, she hadn't noticed at first. In fact, had it not been for her particularly keen eye, he could have remained almost invisible amongst the similarly dressed students and against the similarly hued backdrop of the room. Red tie, black slacks… it was commendable. But then he ruined it with the fedora and the sunglasses. Honestly. Who wore sunglasses inside and hoped to remain unnoticed. And as she drew nearer, it became clear as day to her. Had she not just recently admitted that she had been paying attention -- at least in passing -- to him in class? Had she not interacted with him just recently in the potions class after hours, which subsequently allowed her to better recognize his features and mannerisms? Had she not made a mental note to ask a favour of him the next time she saw him?
There was no doubt in her mind about it. It was Burnett sitting in that seat.
Unfortunately, as much as she would have liked, he was not seated in a position that would allow her to sneak up on him. Instead, she abruptly shifted her destination of walking and made her way to him, weaving lithely between chairs and tables and students.
"You know…if you're hoping to stay unnoticed, Burnett," she drawled on approach, the corners of her mouth curled with obvious mirth, "you'd have done better to dye your hair and smear some Engorgement Potion on your jaw."
In a smooth motion, she sat herself down, laced her fingers together with elbows on the table, and rested her chin upon them.
"So…how are you going to explain your way into being here." She could hardly contain her amusement.

SHIP ME!
Well, nothing could last forever. The loss of Gryffindor's winning streak had righteously come to an end, claimed by their brothers in arms, the Slytherins, who at this point in time had justly deserved it. No doubt they would enjoy their victory of the month before the lions would swiftly return to their thrones. As of now, however, Piérre was heading to the Small Hall, where he had heard an advertisement for a Valentine's Tea Party.
Piérre had never found himself in a relationship, and for a very good reason. After all, he was only eleven, and at that age, long term relationships were hard to come by and very likely unfavorable unless only thinking of the level of puppy love, a strong feeling of desire or an odd feeling that the person was much prettier than other people. Up to this point, Piérre had not really felt that sensation except for perhaps one person, and he was a little afraid to mention Her aloud.
This brought him to this moment, a young boy who was traipsing down to the Small Hall, dressed in something that only Piérre could pull off wearing. A tuxedo and bowtie:

It was PERFECT.
Stepping into the entirely pink Small Hall with his patriotic flair, Piérre smiled bashfully, looking at everyone already gathered. It appeared as if many of the people already there had found friends, or perhaps boyfriends, and he was the odd man out in a spiffy tux. There were a few people Piérre seemed to recognize, but couldn't put a name to, but he eventually saw the eccentric flying professor Olphie Bercegeay herself. He offered a small smile and wave as stepped in and found a place at an empty table, not wishing to bother any of the couple. Kicking his feet beneath the table, he smiled to himself, slowly turning red as he realized just how out of place a loveless Italian could be. The creator of the romantics, and yet, without a love himself.
Maybe that would change someday...

Valentine's Tea
@Evelynn Decipio
The young Slytherin was just about to relax, having seen several newcomers take their place at various tables in the Small Hall, with each seemingly as awkward about being alone as he was. With so many people seated alone at tables, he simply blended right in. At least, that's what he thought...right up until a familiar-looking ginger in practical (yet stylish) grays and blacks made a beeline for his table.
On the plus side, it wasn't who he most feared it would be. On the negative side, she must have been coming over to him specifically for some reason and he doubted it was because she thought he was just another random, anonymous student. Behind his shades, his complexion paled, but he slid his hands into his pockets and leaned back in his chair as casually as he could manage.
"You know…if you're hoping to stay unnoticed, Burnett," the Gryffindor girl told him, "you'd have done better to dye your hair and smear some Engorgement Potion on your jaw."
Jack irritably whipped his shades off his face to scowl at her, setting them on the table none-too-gently. "Or maybe you could have just kept your big mouth shut, Decipio," he snapped, his voice hardly more than a whisper in spite of his obvious annoyance. Glancing around to see if anyone else had heard her, he tried to press his hat lower on his head so as to expose as little of his hair as possible. "I don't suppose you came here to tell me you have either hair dye or an Engorgement Potion on hand. So what's the big idea? Doing what you can to ruin my life?"
Her question regarding his reason for being there earned her an incredulous look. "The same reason you are, I imagine," he said. Then he gestured to her outfit. "What's all this, then? Are you anti-Valentine's Day or something?"

Valentine's Tea
Interacting with @Opeila Seilun
Ruka had spent some time just watching students tickle into the small hall, most of them dressed up in their nicest pink or red clothes, and most of them just spreading out across the room, clearly trying to stay clear of having to talk with strangers.
Amusing, how people would come to a social event just to stay completely unsocial for the duration of it.
Well, that was his own plan as well, of course, so who was he to judge others for it?
Feeling his throat dry up a little bit, Ruka got up, abandoning his seat for just a minute to have a look at the different selections of tea.
Opting for a normal black one with some milk - no sugar! - he took his cup with him to his seat, clutching it in both hands to keep himself warm.
As he sipped his tea, trying to blend in with his surroundings as much as he could, he eventually saw a familiar face approaching him, and his thus far fake smile turned into a real one as the Slytherin girl reached him.
He laughed lightly when she asked him if he was waiting for his date, putting his cup down on the table before waving his hands in front of himself defensively.
„God no,“ he said quickly. „I‘m only here for the tea and the house points.“ He chuckled before patting the seat next to him invitingly. „Come sit with me, it‘s been getting a bit lonely. I can get you some tea if you want?“ He grinned, gesturing back to where the tea was being served. A few people had gathered there already, but the queue wasn‘t too long yet, which Ruka assumed was going to change soon when even more students were joining the party.
At Opeila‘s compliment on his shoes, Ruka looked down for a second, pulling a face in discomfort. „Thanks,“ he said, thinking back on when she had found him with his feet almost freezing off on the grounds. She was probably relieved to see him wearing shoes at all. „They‘re a bit... tight, though. I figured this wasn‘t the kind of event to come to barefoot though, right?“ He smiled and reached for his tea again, taking another sip as he mustered Opeila for a moment.
Compared to some of the other girls she didn‘t seem overly dressed up, more casual, and definitely not matching with the sickeningly pink decor.
„What about you, then?“ he asked, a teasing smile on his face. „Waiting for a secret admirer?“

Opeila smiled about Ruka's answer to the date-question. She wasn't too surprised, that he was only here for housepoints and tea. Those had been her motives to come here as well. And the possible distraction. "About the tea... uh. Well, I am good for now, thanks. I've heard someone talking about love potions, that reduced my courage to try drinks in February.", she said and sat down next to him. "It is, right? I am surprised how many people are here just sitting alone. Happy Valentine's day, Hogwarts." She chuckled a little.
He thanked her for complementing his shoes and then said that they were a little tight, he didn't want to come barefooted though. Opeila smiled a little, when she remembered Ruka with the gloves on his feet. "I don't think so. Besides you would probably have a dozen people step on your feet when you crossed the room. I didn't know that Valentine's day was such a big thing here."
Opeila noticed his glance at her dress and looked down herself for a second. "I didn't feel like going with the pink theme.", she just said.
Ruka asked her, if she was waiting for a secret admirer, causing Opeila to chuckle. "Who could possibly admire me? The past few weeks I was rude to everyone, looked like death in person, and then had this scene in the courtyard. Nope, I am on the best way to become the weird Slytherin girl, who can't deal with her life." The Slytherin shook her head.

Ah, Valentine's Day. It's that time of the month where love was in the air, and people found an excuse to snog and do whatever gross romantic things people usually did. Saskia suspected that there were plenty of students who were more than excited to take part of the holiday. However, she personally didn't find the appeal to it. The holiday itself was rather pointless, if one thought about it long enough. Then again, maybe people wanted to celebrate love as a holiday. It wasn't really the best thing to celebrate about, but if people were into that, then she couldn't necessarily criticize them for it. Either way, romance was weird. Love made people do weird things, and people, for the most part, acted embarrassing when they did want to show their romantic affection for the rest of the world to see. It was, overall, stupid.
But that didn't stop her from thinking about it anyway. It wasn't very easy to avoid the topic of love on a day related to it, anyway. But that only made her more agitated than usual. Love wasn't something that normally interested her. If anything, it was awkward having to watch couples walk down the halls and act lovey-dovey with each other. There was no other reason for her mind to constantly wander on the subject, but it did. She would have to blame it on the fact that it was Valentine's Day. There were no other factors involved as far as she was concerned. Well, maybe she would have been more convinced of that idea if she didn't keep thinking about a specific someone. But that made things more frustrating. She didn't want to think about them, much less associate them with the concept of love, or whatever crap Valentine's Day was feeding people. It was a waste of time, and she didn't even want to waste her energy on thinking about something that was so stupid.
But aside from that, she wanted to help her house out with house points. She had nothing better to do, and Hufflepuff surely could have used a bit of a boost considering their poor run in terms of the House Cup. So when she saw that the Flying Professor was hosting a tea party, she was somewhat hesitant. From what she remembered about the Professor, she was... Bizarre, to put it in nicer terms. She could have gone a bit farther and called her incompetent, although she must have had some worth if she was still in staff after so long. After all, it was the same Professor who initially did nothing about the incident that occurred in the First Year Graduation Party last year. It was only thanks to the Hufflepuff's tirade against the Professor that she was convinced to help out- otherwise, she probably would have continued to ignore what was happening. But if she was here to stay, then she couldn't really do much about it. Not that she had a reason to put any kind of blind trust in the school, especially after all the incidents they went through.
She had some expectations of what she would see when she first walked into the room, and Merlin did they deliver. The room was completely covered in pink. It was actually rather repulsive, but really, what wasn't repulsive about a room that was so disgustingly pink? Looking at it all was almost enough to make her nauseous. But she did have to give it to the Professor for decently decorating the rest of the room, even if it was still hard to see everything.
It seemed that there were already some people who wanted to take part of the event. She didn't know how they managed to tolerate the room, although she supposed house points were valuable. She didn't know a lot of the other students, nor did she know who she could have talked to, so instead she wandered off on her own. She wasn't sure what she would do if the Professor herself had come up to talk to her, although she doubted it considering she was probably busy with other things, like talking to the other students or admiring herself in the mirror, or whatever she did. Hopefully those house points were worth it.
