Skipping Stones
Saoirse hummed little tunes and patted her satchel to the beat as she walked down to the Great Lake. She was singing 'Duleman'. It was a traditional Irish song that her father really enjoyed. It had a home like feel to it and she loved her home, but was learning to love Hogwarts just as much.
She enjoyed the steady feel of her bare feet hit the dirt, rocks and grass, not because it reminded her of anything at home, but because it made her feel alive and free. It's the little things that Cookie loved, the small things that give her wings. She continued to wander towards the lake for a while, touching a tree here and there, picking up a few flat rocks and pocketing them. When she finally arrived, she pulled out all of the rocks she had gotten and placed them in a small heap at her feet. She had plenty of stones to occupy her for a while.
After she set down her satchel, she began to skip stones, a game that she had done with herself at the port back in Dingle at least once a week. She had lots of practice, but for some reason she could not get she stones to skip more than four times. She had already thrown about nine. She decided to change things up. She picked up a much bigger rock and tossed it into the lake. Unfortunately for her, she was not very strong and as a result, the rock only went about two feet into the water and water completely coated her. A moment went by before she laughed at herself to the point that she snorted. She immediately gained composer and looked cautiously around to make sure no one heard her. Didn't see anyone, so she slowly sat down on a large rock, leaving a large heap of stones on the ground next to her. She sat quietly, closing her eyes and listening to the sounds of the Great Lake.

Kristen stepped out of the castle, very lost. He had been trying to get to the great hall for an hour, and had basically given up. He looked out over the grounds, and noticed the lake. It was odd; he hadn't really acknowledged that it was there. He had spent so much time indoors since he got to Hogwarts. maybe a breath of fresh air would be good. He walked down towards the lake slowly. He was truly in awe of the scenery.
He stopped to look back at the castle. It was immense, an impossible magnificent piece of architecture. He couldn't believe that a school could look that good. Granted, this was a magic school.
Since he was walking backwards while looking at the school, he didn't even notice when he tripped over a girl lying by the lake's edge. He tumbled backwards in too the lake, thoroughly soaking his robes in the process. he sat up in the water, coughing. seeing the girl he had tripped over, he panicked. OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD. WHAT IF SHE TELLS VERYONE IM A HORRIBLE PERSON?!?! EVERYONE WILL HATE ME. ILL HAVE TO LEAVE. MY LIFE IS OVER.
he remained silent before a moment before speaking.
"Uhh...Hi?"

This was what Cookie had needed. She needed a moment to take a break from the noise and chaos of Hogwarts. A moment was all she thought she needed, and that was all that fate would give her. One second Cookie had been enjoying the stillness of the great lake, the next she was face first in the dirt. "Ouch" she grumbled. It took her a moment to sit up and see what caused her to bite the dust... literally. She spat out a bit of dirt and look up to see a boy.
"Uh...Hi?" The soaked boy said.
She tried her utmost best to keep from laughing, but ended up failing. She was more tickled than annoyed. She hated to take pleasure in other's misfortunes, but it was almost like a breath of fresh air to see someone who was having just as strange of a day as herself.
"Hold on" she responded with her lopsided smile. She got up and dusted herself off. She then stuck her feet into the somewhat chilly water which made her shudder a little. "Hi, I'm Saoirse Byrne, but my friends call me Cookie." She chuckled a bit more before she stretched out her hand to the boy. "Um... You ok?" she asked through a laugh.

What a strange boy. she thought to herself. Maybe he was not as strange as he was simply lost, She guessed. Saoirse saw that Chris had been a bit aggravated and maybe nervous, so she decided to help. She went back to her satchel and pulled out her jacket. The jacket was a forest green and looked hand-me-downed. She also pulled out a small brown paper sack tied with a blue ribbon.
"Here, dry off a bit. There are some chocolate chip cookies and some snickerdoodles in the bag if you feel as though you would like a snack." She told him as she handed him the jacket and then the sack.
"I came to the lake for a breath of fresh air and to explore a little bit. I am not very used to castles " she chuckled. It was true though. She was used to quiet waters by the port and the rough forest terrain she loved to get lost in. She didn't like all of the judgmental eyes and hurtful comments that often came with large groups of people, so she relied on the quiet of the woods to keep her comforted.
"You seem like you have had a... "fun" day. I don't suppose you came to do the same?"

Kristen laughed quietly. "Yeah, I guess so..." he sighed. He opened the bag with the snickerdoodles and took a bite of one. "If I'm perfectly honest..... I hate it here." Kristen paused for a moment, looking out upon the lake. "Everything is so different here. I'm a muggle- born from England. I didn't even know about magic until I got my letter. I miss my old school it was so much...simpler." He took another bite of the snickerdoodle. "This will probably sound bad, but you're the first person I've spoken to. I'm scared that when I talk to someone, I'll do something wrong and they won't like me. Or even worse, they'll-" He caught himself. He shook his head and looked down. "Sorry, went on a bit of a rant there. But yeah, I came out to get away from the castle."
Kristen noticed the pile of skipping stones beside cookie. He smiled, remembering a time when he and Bryan (see revelio) ] had went out on a school camping trip. They'd skimmed stones together, but Kristen had only managed to make the stone skip twice. He pointed to the pile of stones. "Can I have a go?"

Saoirse smiled sympathetically as Kristen told her about how he felt. While she could somewhat relate, she was familiar with magic unlike him. She was not about to bother feeling sorry for him. The way he seemed to be handling it was more admirable than pitiable. She wondered if that was how her muggle born father felt when he went to Hogwarts. Never mind that, she thought, Best focus on the here and now for the moment.
When Kristen asked about the stones, she grinned competitively. "By all means, and, tell you what," she remarked, "I think we could both use a bit of fun to get our minds off of this weird school, and I like competition, so here is my proposal. I'll keep tally of how many times you and I can make the stone skip. I will be competing along side you. Most skips win. Winner gets major bragging rights as a reward. It's not much, but I gotta say, bragging is really fun. I bet you couldn't beat my record. I've made it all the way to ten skips. You up for it?" She asked eagerly, wishing for a bit of fun to make this messed up day better. This should be interesting she smugly thought to herself.

I'll do the same, the d12 that is
Saoirse was glad that kristen had accepted her offer. She hid a small laugh at his first throw. Not a judgmental laugh, a laugh at herself because she had had similar instances. Ya... I have soooo been there. Several times they have landed on various places on my face. Eyes, cheek, and so on. She thought to herself.
"Nice shot" she commented as he skipped his stone. Twice was not bad, not bad at all. It was better than her brother Seamus could do. Thinking of her dumb brother made her smile a bit more. She gladly took the next stone from him and polished it with her hair. She stopped, forgetting he was right there. "Um...It's a weird family good luck tradition....just ignore that...that never happened." she mumbled through a nervous chuckle. She got in position and...threw! Off the stone went, skipping once, twice, three, times, all the way to six! She loved this game and was very proud of herself, but did her best to act like she thought it was a lucky shot. She picked up the next rock and offered it to him. "You've got this!" Cookie told him

"You just had to ask" she chuckled. "Alright... I'll say this as simply as I can. My father's entire family line is non-magical but then he had magic. He is a muggle-born. He fell in love with my pure blood mom, and there was a lot of debate on their union. They fought their way to marriage and had me and my four brothers. I have two magical brothers and two muggle. Thats that. No further info." She said as she threw the stone a bit harshly, causing it to splash right into the water. She threw it close enough that it splashed her. Cookie mentally cursed herself before she plopped down and tossed a stone over to Kristen. "you are bound to beat me this round." she stated with a small unrealistic laugh.
She didn't want to mention her family, lots of people usually find some way to tease her about it. She prayed he'd be different. He seemed nice enough, but she was in a bit of a bad mood after what some of the people had said about her and her family.
