Footfalls steadily crunch the grass beneath Aeyrun’s feet as he walks across to the shaded shore of the great lake. A cluster of trees pressed up to the water’s edge, leaving little to no space for the pebble and gravel mixture that passed for the ground around these parts. The sky above was a patchwork of grey clouds mixed in with an even greyer sky. A gentle, yet somewhat cold breeze blew across the steely surface of the lake, dragging small ripples here and there.

Aeyrun knew that this particular area of the great lake was seldom visited by students-- part of the
reason why he chose it-- and it was possibly the only place where he could be at peace for several minutes. The boy had a slight headache, his condition aggravated by the noise in the common room, which left him in a bit of a mood, a shame really because he rose this morning rather chuffed, something that would come to an abrupt end when he accidentally hit his head on the way out to the common room. Never quite a fan of medication, Aeyrun instead opted to let the fresh air cure the mild throbbing pain radiating from the right side of his forehead.

The boy eventually came to take a seat at the bank of the lake, his back resting on the trunk of a rather large tree who’s roots occasionally jutted from the earth the create a network of veins that stretched out into the waters ahead, eventually disappearing from view. Aeyrun would lean his head back to the bark, his gaze gently lifted up to look up the sky peeking through irregular spaces between the tree’s green foliage.

He would keep his blank stare into space for several moments before he let his lids close over his striking eyes, right knee lifted to balance his arm as he reclined back, finally getting comfortable while he kept his ears on the sounds around him-- enjoying this momentary seconds of silence.

Jane Victoria was finally free from homework, they had finished writing more than ten inches of parchment in total. Their hands were so sore that they couldn’t even draw, but I guess this is what they get for doing homework the day before it’s all due. Jay was standing on a hill not too far from the Great Lake. A idea suddenly popped into their head. It was such a childish one...

Oh well. Jay bent down to roll up the hem of their pants, it went a little bit after their ankles. They stood back up, letting the heat of the sun hit them along with the slight chill of the wind. It felt like they were the only ones in the world! They could hear everything. The sound of the wind, the trees moving in the forbidden forest, the distant chatter of students, yet the lake seemed really quiet. Jay looked ahead, the lake was flat, filled with pretty white glares from the sun upon its smooth ripples. With a stupid grin on their face, they ran, they’ve done this a million times before. And this time they weren’t going to-

Jay fell into the water.
Again.

It was the most childish game ever. Jay did this last year multiple times, it was a game where you would run towards the lake like and idiot and see if you could stop yourself right at the edge of the water. And if you didn’t... you fell into the water. Once, Jay decided to be a goof and swim in the water, luckily no one caught them and it was a sunday so they had hours to dry themself up without anyone noticing. But at this moment there was in fact another person. And this person was splashed by water when they fell into it. Jays face turned as red as their newly coloured hair, and their stupid grin was no more. For some reason they couldn’t come up with anything to say, except for-
