June 28th
Alan was sitting at the Great Lake as he tried keeping his focus while blending out the noises around him. He was not doing good, but he was doing alright. He managed, he managed rather well, that's it. His mind was not blank, it never was, but his thoughts were not rushing around in his mind aimlessly and without any purpose. He was sitting there, his eyes forcefully closed as he did nothing but breath. Somewhere, wandering around the Grounds was Tiger, bored by his caretakers inactivity the cat had decided to explore the Grounds on its own, while Alan sat there.

Alan did not have his legs crossed, he found that too uncomfortable and Vernatis had mentioned that he would not have to do so to succeed; who had invented this sitting position anyway? How could you stay focus while your legs are aching. Well he did have his legs crossed, but only lightly at his calves while his elbows rested on his knees, which made his whole body appear slumped forwards. He breathed, taking a breath in for a few seconds as his chest rose, before slowly exhaling. He tried not to focus too much on the singing of the crickets that surrounded him, there were a lot at the Lake. Or the buzzing of the dragonflies on their way across the Lake. He even tried to blend out the ribbiting of the frogs and toads, even though for a moment he wondered if one of the actually belonged to one of the students and if they had lost them.

Occasionally he slipped up, letting his mind wander for a few moments. But thinking about the train ride back home, or to his aunt's house was tempting to think about. He was wondering whether his cousins were happy to see him or if they would be annoyed, that they once again had to share one room while Alan stayed over. Alan hoped not, he did not want to be a bother. He was event thinking about joining the Duel Club, his parents would like that. They had written it in their owl... well it looked like his mother's handwriting; he supposed his father was in no condition to actually write him letters as he was still recovering. His mother had told him that his father was feeling better and that he was on the way to recovery. They even said they might come back soon, Alan was looking forward to that...

At this moment he was at ease, a bit relaxed even. His thoughts were slower and he was sure that if he was to attempt to cast a spell now he could actually do it. He could probably cast a Incendio even; without causing damage! He could try, maybe he should! Just as he began to think, his thoughts began to race, one thought after the other jumped around in his head, while he tried to chase after them. It took him a while. He blinked, opened his eyes to look at the surface of the Great Lake, trying to wish away all the thoughts that did not let him concentrate. He was failing the professor once again and he felt like screaming. He could not, people might hear him, but he was not one to look around wildly.. he simply clenched his hands around the hem of his knee-long shorts.

He did not hear it, when footsteps approached him, he did not notice the weight landing against his back, small hands grasping for his shoulders. He had not seen the silvery shimmer around him, something he could have identified as a Patronus, if he had the knowledge. He simply fell forward as the sudden force crashed into his back. His hands slipped from his knees into the murky water of the Lake, slipping into the water until it reached his elbows. He definitely did hear the sound of a splash as someone stumbled over the frame of his body, directly into the Lake, while he himself simply got soaked.

He gasped, drenched in the water, while sitting at the shore of the Lake, his back sore. Alan had scraped his hands on some stones, nothing serious, however he was in shock. What just happened? He looked in front of him, into the Lake where he had heard the splashing sound, as he saw who it was and could only imagine what just happened.

”YUYA!”, he would shout in surprise, before reaching forward, extending a hand towards the boy, ”Get back on land, now! The Lake is dangerous!” Now he also noticed the Patronus, hovering in the air above the eight year old, and Alan in his panic shouted at it ”Get Vernatis”, hoping that it would work. They were messengers, right? Alan could not go into the Lake himself, could he? He just hoped Yuya was as smart as he appeared and able to swim, as Alan extended his hand as far over the Lake as it was possible for him, his fingers barely brushing Yuya's hand as he did so. After a few Moments he was able to clasp his hand around the child's wrist, puling him closer to the shore, holding him above the Surface.

Artemis sat at his desk in his office, his head leaning heavily in one hand while his other hand scratched and scribbled grades on the last assignments and final exams from his students. With his son being here for the last month, he had put off a lot of his grading until after the boy had gone to sleep for the night and he would often grade for three hours after that, but by eleven thirty Artemis would feel his own eyes dropping and would make his way to his own bed for a few hours of sleep.

In following this ritual, his work had piled up and he needed to finish grading the last minute assignments that had been sitting on his desk since the middle of June. However, his pile of work didn't dissuade his son from running around his office and connecting quarters as if he was at the playground and it took one loud crash in his quarters and a sniffling time-out for Yuya before Artemis had had enough of his son's boundless energy. Taking out his wand, the man summoned his Patronus, a mountain lion native to the area of America he had lived in years ago, and gave it a message before turning back to his son.

"Yuya, you're eight now and I belive I can trust you to follow a simple instruction, right?" A nod was his answer as Yuya's gaze was transfixed on the large white feline that was languidly stretching as it awaited its orders. "My Patronus is going to take you straight to Mr. Vanes. I am sure that he wouldn't mind your company the same way I am sure you desire to be around him. You will listen to him and do not give him any trouble, do you understand me?"

Yuya nodded. "Uh huh! I'm going to follow your Patromeus to Alan and listen to him."

"And not give him any trouble, Yuya. I mean it. If he's doing something, leave him to it and wait patiently. He's been asking me to let him watch you so I expect you to be on your best behavior. And the word is Patronus."

"I will, daddy! I promise. Can I go play with Alan now?" Yuya asked, his large green eyes staring up at his father hopefully. With a sigh at knowing that his son didn't even hear the correction of the spell and had a one track mind, Artemis waved his Patronus on and it ran off, waiting briefly for the laughing eight-year-old to follow after it. The Charms professor sat wearily down at his desk and sighed once more before picking up his quill to continue with his grading. He was sure that by the end of this summer he was going to have a streak of gray hair running through his hair with all of the trouble his son gets into.

*~~~*~~~*

It hadn't even been a full hour before Artemis saw his Patronus return from the corner of his eyes. Putting his quill down, he looked at the summoned spell curiously. "Normally you all disappear after delivering a message or doing what was asked of you. I don't think Yuya knows about sending messages through you so it must be Mr. Vanes. Has he sent a message to thank me for sending his "friend" to him?"

The Patronus shook slightly before it opened its mouth and the frantic and worried voice of Alan Vanes sounded loudly throughout the office.
"YUYA! Get back on land, now! The Lake is dangerous! Get Vernatis!”
Artemis' felt his stomach drop as his Patronus disappeared after delivering its message. Swiftly, the Charms professor ran from his office through the door leading into the hallway and ran through the corridors and down the stairs, jumping the last four steps on the main staircase, to make his way out of the doors of the castle. As he stepped out into the sunshine, Artemis slipped on the still slightly damp grass but used his hand to propel him back into a standing position quickly and continued to run at full speed toward the lake. He saw Alan kneeling in the water with Yuya grasping onto the older boy tightly.

Out of breath, Artemis walked over to the two boys and asked, "What...happened?"

-Godmod Permission for Yuya granted-
Alan was kneeling with his knees at the shore, water reaching till his thighs as the ground rapidly dropped a few meters. Yuya most likely had no footing anymore, where he was struggling to stay above the surface. So when Alan finally got a grasp on the younger boy, after he had to wade deeper into the water himself, Yuya clutched onto him as if the boy's life depended on it. Alan was not sure whether it were droplets of Lake water or tears that webbed over the long black lashes.

Alan was now kneeling waist deep in the water, algae dancing around them and when Alan looked at Yuya he could see the boy's lip tremble – so it were tears. Alan wondered whether it was out of shock or actual fear as he pulled the child closer to the shore and safety. He could see various fish swim around them, so Alan tried to get the Yuyas's attention. ”Look Yuya, all those fishes!” and at first it did not look like it was doing anything, but then after sniffling he looked around through the murky surface of the Lake where a fish family swam by. But then the young boy sniffled again, while Alan carefully tried to maneuver themselves out of the water; Lake water stinging at the scrapes at knees and palms, but the child in his arms was way more important.

"What...happened?" , he heard a voice and flinched. Well he did call for the professor, but Alan did not want him to think bad of him- by bringing his son in one dangerous situation after the other. He looked up at the professor as he clumsily raised himself to his feet, which turned out to be quite a difficult task with a soaked child on his arms that clung to him like a monkey as he waded through the water with wobbly steps, until he reached the professor.

”H-he fell”, he mumbled, not telling the whole truth, knowing that it might get Yuya into trouble and waited for the child to let go off him and cuddle with his father instead. Yuya didn't even seem to be shocked anymore, the first shock being over for Alan as well, he shook his head in disbelief. ”Can I still sh-show Yuya around?”, he asked hopefully and a bit worried, that Vernatis would not trust him with his son anymore. Hearing this, the future Gryffindor's head snapped into the direction of his father as Alan set him onto the Ground. He looked at his father pleadingly.

Artemis looked at the two boys as he caught his breath. They weren't serious, were they? Yuya fell...in the lake...and that was why the frantic call with his Patronus was made? It didn't seem as if Yuya had fallen deep into the water. The young Gryffindor wouldn't have been able to get his son out of the lake otherwise. Not that he would know whether or not Mr. Vanes knew how to swim.

Looking at his son, he addressed his questions to him. "Are you hurt?"

Yuya shook his head. "No. It was just scary."

"I'm sure that it was," Artemis commented lightly as he kneeled next to his son. He pulled the boy's hands away to inspect them carefully. Yuya may have said he wasn't hurt, but knowing his child, the boy would keep any injuries a secret until the pain became unbearable. Sure enough, he noticed a few small scratches on Yuya's palms. 'Must have been when he slipped into the water.'

Taking out his wand, the man used it to point at each of the child's palms and said, "Tergeo." The small scratches on the boy's palms instantly healed, leaving no scaring and looking as if he hadn't had a little spill into the water. Artemis then pointed his wand at each boy and cast a drying charm on each of them.

"It wouldn't do if either of you caught a cold. Now, please," he looked at Yuya, "Behave yourselves. Yes, you may still show him around campus, Mr. Vanes, but stay out of trouble. Either of you end up in some mischief again and you'll both be finding a corner in my office to put your noses in. Yuya, listen to Mr. Vanes."

Yuya smiled up at his dad before hugging him tightly. "I'll listen to Alan, dad. I promise," the boy said before he hopped back over to the older boy and held onto his hand. Artemis sighed, nodded to his student, and then turned around to head back into the castle. He needed to grade the rest of those papers.

But first, he was going to have a nice cup of tea with a large dose of Calming Draught.

Alan sheepishly watched and listened to Professor Vernatis scolding the both of them. But he was right, something could have happened and he was not sure, if Yuya was able to swim. If, he probably was not a good swimmer, because he had seemed rather panicked after they fell into the Great Lake. But luckily everything went well.

Confused he looked up at the Professor who would cast a spell onto the both of them and he could vaguely remember his mother casting it a lot of times; probably too many times. His palms and knees would slightly burn at the scratches but the burning sensation would soon turn into a ticklish feeling until it disappeared all together; only leaving healed hands without a single scratch behind. ”Thank you, professor”, he muttered sheepishly, looking up at the man and frowning when he noticed that his long hair did not grow back over night. He felt really bad for what happened then, but at least no one got hurt and the Charms teacher's voice was not sounding like it was sandpapered anymore.

”We will stay out of trouble, professor. I promise- right, Yuya?”, he said, promising too early as he turned to the child. The green-eyed boy nodded eagerly. Alan would nod and look at his professor and Yuya's father, grinning like a fool. ”We are Gryffindors; the opposite of trouble, sir”

Yuya POV

The small boy watched as his father walked away from them and back toward the castle. He looked up toward the older boy and smiled at his words. Yuya knew that he wanted to be a Gryffindor like Alan. He wanted to be brave and strong like his friend, but he would have to wait three years before he could even find out if he going to be in the same year as Alan. Looking back to the castle, Yuya cupped his hands and yelled "Bye daddy!" before he took Alan's hand and dragged him away from the lake's edge.

Yuya wanted to see more of the castle. The Quidditch Pitch, the gamekeeper's hut, the owlery...everything! Hogwarts was just so amazing and to an eight-year-old exploring a castle meant seeing so many secrets and hidden rooms! What if they saw a dragon locked away in one of the towers?! Yuya's eyes widened at the thought of seeing a real dragon and he giggled a bit in excitement. He couldn't wait to see what Alan would show him. The little boy jumped up and down next to the older boy, taking in the trees that were slowly growing back their green leaves and the other students who were sitting and studying or sitting and talking with one another. When he saw the Quidditch Pitch and saw a few of the students flying in the air, Yuya let out a "whoop" before letting got of Alan's hand and racing toward the group on their brooms. He wanted a closer look and maybe Alan would take him up on a broom too!
