Place: Great Lake
It was early enough in the morning for all the Gryffindor boys and girls to be tucked in their beds, snoring softly and brewing lovely dreams. Not one single Gryffindor, besides a special someone, was in sight around the Lake. No Gryffindor, and very less students of other houses, even them far away from the Lake at this cool morning.
It was peaceful, the silence interrupted by the occasional sounds the Lake and birds made, or the dull laughter of students sitting with their friends far away. All the while, the soft August breeze blew, cooling the place down while the sun shined dully overhead.
At this bright, beautiful morning, sat a young girl near the Lake, propped against a very old oak tree that provided her with beautiful smells of greenery and soothing noises of nesting birds. Her dark hair were perfectly parted in the middle, going around to make a beautiful hairstyle - a work of magic, it was obvious by the perfection. She pursed her small lips together as she stared down at a copy of A History Of Magic, her first-year textbook, with her bright black eyes.
Dot sat perfectly still, staring at the book in her lap. The cover was dull, just like the content inside. Since she first bought her Hogwarts' textbooks, she'd been reading them all. Her favorite textbook was Magical Drafts & Potions by Arsenius Jiggers, though she didn't mind reading The Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk in her free time, either. Even Hogwarts, A History seemed bearable. A History Of Magic, however. It was one book she always looked with disdain. Disdain, and pure boredom.
Dot had tried reading the first few pages of it. She had completed Introduction (a biography of the author and text related to writing and completing the book, along with some footnotes) and Chapter One (which answered the question 'why study history?'). After these two, Dot never opened the book again.
But she had to, now. There wasn't much time left in September first, when her lessons will begin. Who knows she might have to cope with History at the first day, first thing in the morning? She must have some background knowledge - by which she meant reading half the book at least twice - before walking in the class.
Besides, she had already read most of her other textbooks. She'd be doing okay - okay? She'd be earning pocketfuls of house points - on her first day of lessons. About History class, she wasn't all that sure. She was scared that she might even loose some house points, even.
Alright, alright - she has already read the first two chapters. She could be okay at the class (no promises here, remember). But what about other sessions, what about then? According to the second years, once the lessons start, you're very busy. You'd be getting loads and loads of homework, and by the time you get them all done, piles of fresh homework will be waiting on your desk. And with winters coming up, days will be shorter. Which meant, there won't be time to prestudy before classes.
Whatever she can do, she should do now.
Sighing, Dot wrapped her slender fingers around the cover of the book. She flipped it open, searched for the page number of the second chapter, flipped through the pages and took a deep breath. She eyed the heading. Magic's Beginnings. Not too inviting. Even so, she brought her attention to the text and began reading.
A HISTORY OF MAGIC
Chapter 3 of 24
Magic's Beginnings
Wizards can be traced back to the very beginnings of mankind, even during the time of the Neanderthals. Displays in the Australian museum of magic show rock paintings of people in loincloths brandishing one regular arm and one long, oddly-shaped arm. Australian wizards have studied their Aboriginal ancestors and their acquisition of what looks suspiciously like a wizard’s wand. Professor Milano Sundarian of the Australian Academy for Magic has always believed that magic was first born in the Australian outbacks, but was it really?
In the 17th century, up north in the mountains of the Himalayas, a team of European wizards set up a campsite, initially to observe the habitat of the Yeti, and discovered remains of an ancient tunnel that led deep into the mountain, where it is believed that Himalayan wizards had set up a community before abandoning it for unknown causes. The tunnels date back to the time of the Ice Age. What kind of wizards lived in these tunnels? Were they as advanced as their Australian counterparts?

It was early and almost all the Slytherin students were sleeping, Attumn was already awake and was walking to the Great Lake, she would always go there in the morning to read or study.
As she walks thru the halls there are some boys and girls calling her stuff like "Mudblood" and "Loner". Attumn ignores them. Everybody always calls her that stuff, sadly she has 0 friends. And nobody ever says something nice. Attumn continued walking, looking at the small groups of friends, laughing and talking.
A little while later she got to the Great Lake, put her bag down and not feeling like studying or reading (because she hates the history-like stuff) she took out her sketchbook and started sketching. She drew the lake and trees. When she finished she tore it out of her sketchbook and put it beside her.
She looked at the Giant Squid for a minute before sketching again. This time she sketched a girl with Long purple hair in a braid, light skin and a green dress, like Attumns favourite dress. She gave the girl grey eyes and freckles. When she finished she put her own name on and tore it out of her sketchbook, putting it beside her. Attumn put her sketchbook and pencils in her bag and as she was about to grab the sketches a big gust of wind blew them away, towards an old oak tree, where a girl with dark hair was sitting and reading.
She quickly ran, trying to grab the sketches. She just couldn't grab them, it was like the wind was playing tricks on her. As Attumn tried to grab the sketches for the 72nd time she ran right into the old oak tree, face first and then fell down. The wind became less and the sketches were lying on the ground, just like herself. Only then she realised that there was a Gryffindor student that saw how she fell.

Oh, man, I'll die now, Dot muttered to herself as she forced herself to keep reading the stupid, boring text. For that moment, she almost wished she was dyslexic and couldn't read at all. How nice it would be, if the History professor will try to deduct her points for being poor in the subject, she could just pout and say, It's not my fault I'm dyslexic! with big, widened eyes.
Dot shook her head, snapping out of the fantasy, and focusing her vision to the text once again. But as soon as she did so, a few papers came along her way with the breeze - thick papers (probably sketching material), vibrantly colored. Behind them, a slender girl was running towards it, with bright orange hair curled perfectly to look like a...ahem, a nest - but a beautiful kind of nest, trust me. She seemed to want to...catch the papers? Were it hers?
But before Dot could stand up and try to help the girl out, the girl ran straight in the big oak tree as Dot watched with widened, horrored eyes. The girl smacked in the tree with a sickening 'crunch', then lost her balance and fell down on her back.
With one sudden and jerky movement, Dot shuffled to her feet (the book in her lap falling in the process) and looked over at the girl, her heart thrumming fast. She reached out to her with her hand, and said, "Hey, girl? Are you okay?"

Attumn was lying on the ground, her head hurt from running into a tree and then falling onto your back. Why did the tree need to be there? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
. The Gryffindor student asked if she was ok. "Ugh..." Attumn groaned "Yeah, i am. Sorry if I starteld you" She stood up and thought, why did she say she was ok? Her head hurts! "Well,eh. I should find my sketches if they haven't already been blown into the great lake and eaten by the Giant Squid." Attumn said, not realising the gryffindor students was holding her sketches. "Wait, do squids even eat paper? well Im Attumn by the way, i should really go, eh.... bye! Wait did i say sorry if I startled you? Oh gosh this is stupid, Wait no no, youre not stupid, im stupid, this is stupid, like eh... me bumping into a tree is stupid. The tree is not stupid, Im stu- ugh, you get it. Well i should go now, bye!" Attumn slowly started to walk away, mumbling: "Congrats Attumn, you made a fool of yourself" As she mumbled that, she tripped over a random rock and fell on the ground again "What is with all these STUPID rocks?!

Dot shrugged and tried to help the girl to sit up. "Um, it's okay, I wasn't startled. And I don't think you're okay. Shall I walk with you to the Hospital Wing?" She said, with concern lacing her words softly."Yeah, i am. Sorry if I startled you"
The girl made a comment about sketches and Dot's gaze flickered to the vibrant drawings in her hand. She offered them to the girl, saying, "Are these your sketches? I held them because they were...well, they were flying away." Dot put up a warm and friendly smile on her face, not wanting to make the girl nervous or anything. Dot wasn't an extrovert herself, but she was an ambivert, and once she had been an introvert - those times were hard on her. She didn't want anyone to feel the way Dot felt when talking to other girls, more outgoing and energetic girls. Or so they appeared, anyway. Who knows, maybe Dot was like energetic to the girl? She didn't voice her suspicions, though.
The girl introduced herself as Attumn and - and started talking in a speedy tone, but Dot doubted that even if she wasn't speeding her words, Dot won't understand them. She started on a trail of who's stupid and what's stupid, which made Dot try to stifle her laugh, which she managed to hide behind a big grin.
Before Dot knew it, the girl was walking away, mumbling to herself.
Dot shrugged and turned back to her book - her A History Of Magic's copy, that was trying to stargazing as it was sprawn on the ground. Hastily, she picked it up and tried to clean it with her robes' long sleeves.
She was halfway done with wiping her textbook's cover when she heard a 'thud', a yelp, and a shout.
Dot blinked quickly for a moment, then held the textbook under her arm and ran for the girl, who wasn't far away. Peering at her, Dot said, "Um, Attumn? I really think I should take you to the Hospital Wing...""What is with all these STUPID rocks?!

Attumn sat on the ground, now her head and ankle hurt! She knew she would have a bad day now. Some pencils and some pieces of papers that were sketched on fell out of her bag, she grabbed them and put them in her bag. She wanted to stand up but couldn't because of her hurting ankle. The Gryffindor student walked, or ran up to her and said that she really needed to take her to the hospital wing, Attumn answered "Yeah, my head and ankle hurt like crazy" after she said that she tried to stand up again, her ankle still hurting. She tried again, she hopped on one leg because her ankle hurt (woah that's such big news).
After about 5 minutes of walking, hopping and falling Attumn asked the Gryffindor girl what her name was. Attumn started to think about what the people at the hospital wing thought about her, seeing she came in almost every 2 weeks. You see Attumn is clumbsy, like really clumbsy and can trip over a rock and end at the foot of a hill that is like 70 metes away from her, or trip over something thats like 10 steps away. She was also the most likely student in her class to get hit with a charm from somebody that was on the other end of the classroom. Well you get it by now. She was clumbsy and unlucky.

"I'm Dot," The dark-haired witch replied when Attumn asked for her name. "Dot Dutt, to be precise. And my name is Dot because when I was born, I had tiny nose, like a dot." Her name was always something to laugh about for her. Whenever she'd think about the reason of her name - nickname, rather - she'd remember how Jane told her her baby story with an amused glint in her warm eyes.
Dot could see that Attumn was in pain, the way she hopped and tried to walk. To be honest, Dot hadn't seen someone so clumsy in her entire eleven years of life, which wasn't much, but still. There was a boy at her orphanage, Zion-something, who'd always pick his nose (ewww!) and trip and fall on whatever was in front of him, including other people.
But considering Attumn's way of walking, he seemed to be much better than her. Nevertheless, Dot still helped her, as the both girls left the beautiful edge of the Great Lake. "So, I must ask as well," Dot began rather professionally. "Why is your name Attumn, instead of Autumn, like the season autumn? I've never heard someone named Attumn, but no offense, of course. Your name is unique."
