Shhhh, Be Very Quiet
Being at Hogwarts had slowly but surely been having an effect on Ellory. If anyone had told her a year ago she would be sneaking out after curfew, she would have thought they were totally batty. Yet here she was, waiting out in the dark, deserted grounds, all by her lonesome. She really wished that the Ravenclaw she had been speaking to earlier would hurry up, because the creepiness factor was starting to be unbearable.
Realizing she should probably be a little bit less conspicuous, Ellory spotted a tree a few feet away that she could use for cover in the event that Filch decided he wanted to do some rounds outside the castle. She made her way towards it, still clutching the camera which was strapped around her neck. She wasn’t much for photography, but her parents had given it to her and her sister so that they could send some pictures every once in a while. Sadly, it hadn’t been used but once or twice this whole time.
Once she was nicely situated, Ellory took a moment to glance at her watch. It shouldn’t be too much longer before the other girl arrived. She sighed and looked out towards the lake, wondering how on earth they were going to go through with this. A pang of worry shot through her as she noticed the path only got darker and darker as it went further away from the castle, and she did not know how to cast Lumos yet. The only spell she did know how to cast was Incendio.. But wait, there was an idea!
Struck with a moment of brilliance, Ellory dropped to the ground on her hands and knees, searching vigorously for a large stick or more accurately a small branch. There was a large formation of bushes not too far away with some brush scattered by it, so she started to dig through them. She had been so focused on what she was doing that she didn’t even hear the sound of footsteps drawing closer to her.

Shhhh, Be Very Quiet
Clarisse tried her best to move silently through the castle, ignoring the race of adrenaline that came out with sneaking out after curfew. This wasn't what the girl did. She followed the rules because that was what they were meant to do. But breaking them, this time around, was actually very exciting.
She was probably a little late to meet the Gryffindor. Aware of this, she ran the last bit of the way, ducking behind trees and bushes like the spies in movies did. Despite her running, it probably made her slower. Still, by the time she arrived where they had arranged to meet, she couldn't see the other girl anywhere.
A scrabbling sound from in front of her caused Clarisse to jump and she threw her wand forward, despite knowing she couldn't cast anything. Carefully, she drew in closer, heart racing now for a different reason.
A wild animal, it had to be. Something small, like a bunny or a fox. Not a werewolf. She urged herself to get werewolves out of her head. There wasn't even a full moon.
Wand still extended, she peered over the bush - and spotted the Gryffindor digging through the brush.
With a sigh of relief, she whispered sharply to get her attention. "Hey! Hey, I'm here now. Are you okay? What are you doing?"
Fighting through the brush, she moved to stand next to Ellory. "The Lake's that way," she gestured, still curious about the Gryffindor's actions, "Ready to go?"
She was probably a little late to meet the Gryffindor. Aware of this, she ran the last bit of the way, ducking behind trees and bushes like the spies in movies did. Shhhh, Be Very Quiet
Oh look, there’s perfect! Ellory thought to herself with a grin. She saw a branch that was just the perfect size and thickness. Well, maybe it was a bit too long, but she didn’t think it would be too difficult to break it in half.
As she was reaching triumphantly for it, the sound of another voice startled her half to death. Her spine stiffened and she whipped around to face the source of the voice. She was relieved to see that it was just Clarisse.
”Blimey, you gave me a fight!” Ellory clutched at her heart, which was close to beating outside her chest. Realizing she probably looked a bit strange, she offered an explanation. ”Erm, well, I was thinking about the lack of light, and I don’t know how to cast Lumos yet…” She looked at the girl for a moment before looking away uncomfortably and playing with the hem of her robes. ”So I figured we could make our own torch!” She held up the branch she had found and smiled.
I just need to find a way to break it. Ellory stuck one end of the stick on the ground and stomped her foot somewhere in the middle so that it broke in half. There, that’s better.
The Gryffindor carefully held the stick at arms length and raised her wand with her other arm. ”Incendio!”. A small but bright flame ignited on the top end of the stick. She turned back to Clarisse with a satisfied grin. ”There. Not the best, but it’ll do. I’m ready if you are!” She gestured towards the black lake, doing her best to hide the anxiety she felt in the pit of her stomach.

Her whispers caused the Gryffindor to jump - who had said that they were afraid of nothing? - but she supposed that was to be expected. After all, Ellory's movements from before had definitely put the girl on edge. She then went on to explain herself. Something that Clarisse hadn't thought of - clearly, Ellory was more on top of things than she was. With the darkness already, which was sure to increase, they'd need some sort of light. Seeing that she didn't know how to cast even incendio, it was good Ellory was making them a torch.
An actual torch would have been a good idea to bring. Anything would have been, really. Clarisse felt rather unprepared, considering she had only brought a wand. A wand she couldn't exactly use.
Deciding that next time, she'd be more organised, she returned to the moment. "Great idea!" she exclaimed, taking the other end of the stick that Ellory had snapped in two. She extended it towards the torch Ellory had fashioned. "Mind if I steal your fire?" she joked, setting the end of her stick on fire too. It never hurt to have more light.
"Right, so we're off?" she grinned, taking a step to the Lake. Then bounding towards it, careful not to wave the stick around too much and leave Ellory behind. As the looming black liquid expanded before them, her face lit up, and she spun back to Ellory. "We're here! So... where's this giant squid? Do you think we could tempt it out with some food or something? If it's there, that is."
