She tilted her head up, allowing her silky long dark hair to flow down against her back. A splash of sunlight gleamed through the thick foliage, creating dapples of sunlight around her. The earthy yet rejuvenating scent of the forest was especially prominent during the dewy morning. The crisp sounds of nature composed a beautiful rhythm as Alaska sat by the Great Lake in a soft patch of wild grass. She took in a few deep even breaths, taking in the fresh morning air. A faint breeze blew past, bringing her hair to her left side. A streak of hair rested across her left face while she closed her eyes and pondered. She’s quite independent thus not having many friends, though she would love to make some if she could break through her introverted personality. The only friends she ever had was animals.

She extended her arms over her head and stretched before standing back up. Carefully, she slipped off her shoes and placed them behind a pile of rocks so that they won’t get wet. Barefoot on the grainy sand, she slowing inched towards the water. Now she knew the lake water is cold all year, however, she didn’t mind. In fact, it was a really nice type of coldness. Not a sad, lonely cold but a joyful winter cold. Each step she took in the water created ripples, like rings on her ankle. As she gazed across the lake, she was reminded of (finally) a merry memory. They were at the park, Alaska and her mom. It was just them two, having picnic next to a small lake. Her mom picked up a flower and showed it to Alaska. “This is a lavender, it symbolizes devotion and serenity.” She handed the lavender to Alaska. Then she started humming a familiar lullaby. Lavender’s blue.

“Lavenders blue, dilly dilly, Lavenders green. When you are king, dilly dilly, I shall be queen…”

Alaska started to hum this lullaby as she stood in the cold water. Her sweet voice was no longer quiet. She was free in nature, and she sang bright and beautifully.

“…who told you so, dilly dilly, Who told you so? ’Twas my on heart, dilly dilly, that told me so.”

She brought her chin down to her chest while placing her right hand upon her heart. Her eyes were closed as she resumed listening to nature. Thats when she heard the sound of faint footsteps approaching her.

It was absolutely gorgeous day out. Rowan had attempted some homework, but it was like the sunshine and fresh air was calling to her, begging her to take a break - just a little one! - and enjoy it. She tried to resist, but was it really wise to ignore Mother Nature in such a way? She really didn't want to take her chances on such things, so she decided that a short walk would be a good compromise. She'd prefer to play Quidditch, or kick a ball around, or something, but her homework was waiting patiently, and she couldn't just abandon it. Promising her history work she'd see it soon, she took off out of the castle and into the beautiful sunshine.

The lake looked particularly appealing, so she headed in that direction. She wasn't sure if they were allowed to swim in the lake, but she kind of wished that she could. It'd probably be freezing though. As she debated this, a melody that seemed to be floating on the wind, drawing her attention away from the water. "Lavenders blue, dilly dilly..." The song struck a memory, but she just couldn't figure it out. She knew she'd heard it before, but for the live of her, couldn't figure out where, or even what the song was besides the words she was hearing.

Glancing around, she found the source of the song. A dark haired girl about her age. She made her way over to the girl, curiosity driving her.

"Hey, what's that song you're singing? It sounds so familiar, but I just can't figure it out." There was always the chance that this girl would tell her to go away, but it was worth a shot.

OOC: Sorry for the very late reply. This week was exams and after that I was pretty distracted by a Harry Potter movie marathon.
Naturally, Alaska almost lost her balance from the surprise. She had not expected anyone to come. "Hey, what's that song you're singing? It sounds so familiar, but I just can't figure it out." The newcomer asked, ask Alaska turned around to see who came. Her face quickly blushed from embarrassment, as she never sang so loud in front of anyone before. Her gaze matched the girl's eyes and she stood there in hesitation before pushing herself to speak. The melodic sounds of chirping birds filled the silence leading up to Alaska's nervous response.

"Uh...umm...it's called Lavenders Blue. My mother used to sing it to me."

Her breath slowed to the pace it was at before. Alaska is quite socially nervous and never really interacted with many people before. Theres nothing to worry about. If anything, this is my chance to make a friend. Another small breeze flew by to fill in the awkward space between the two. There was no doubt that the new girl was friendly and quite sociable, however, Alaska just couldn't bring herself to speak up more. It was definitely not a hard thing to do, just very unyielding for her. Another small moment passed as she tried to make a faint smile. Finally, she found the courage to speak up, although it wasn't a very strong response. Alaska can be very socially tense, but when she finds the will to speak, she can be very open about her personal information.
"She, um, sang that song to me every birthday. She told me to be like a lavender; calm, graceful, and devoted. I try to be like a lavender...um...my name is Alaska, Hufflepuff."
As she spoke, her voice became more and more reassured. However, it didn't nearly sound as clear nor comfortable than when she was singing by herself just a few moments ago.

Rowan hadn't meant to catch the girl off guard or anything like that, though the blush on the other girl's face suggested that she might not have been overly successful in that endeavour. Oops. But honestly, what did she expect if she was going to be walking around, singing pretty song. But the girl indulged her and told her what the song was. The name didn't strike a chord with the Gryffindor either, but she'd definitely had heard it before somewhere. Ah well, she'd figure it out someday.

"It's a gorgeous song," she said, offering the girl a small smile. "You have a beautiful voice too. Do you sing a lot?" Rowan didn't know a whole lot about music, but she knew what she liked and what she didn't, which served her well enough. And as far as she could tell, the girl was a good singer.

"She, um, sang that song to me every birthday. She told me to be like a lavender; calm, graceful, and devoted. I try to be like a lavender...um...my name is Alaska, Hufflepuff." Being like lavender sounded boring as hell to Rowan, but she'd learned at an early age that not everyone wanted to have fun the same way she did. "That's so cool. So is it your birthday today? Is that why you're singing it?" It made sense to Rowan, if it was a birthday song. Maybe they could have a party! "I'm Rowan. Gryffindor. Are you first year too?"

Eri had been very frustrated and needed to go outside and cool off. Her brothers had tried to find her so they could ask her some questions of why she had been to detention earlier this year. Honestly there were a couple possibilities and she didn't want to explain them to her brothers. It was almost an impossible task to avoid them. They seemed to know where she liked to hide in the library so she went outside on the grounds to escape them for now.

The brunette walked slowly down to the lake and she saw two girls. She didn't know any of them but maybe she could speak to them. As Eri approached she wasn't sure if she wanted to say hello or not. What if she was not welcomed? Eh she really didn't see how this could be bad. So she continued to walk up to the two girl. "Hi" She said dryly as she walked past them and climbed up onto a rock next to the lake and pulled her legs up to her chest and looked at the Lake. It was a beautiful sight, but she hoped she wasn't intruding their conversation at the moment.

Alaska felt a rush of warmth as Rowan complimented her voice. No one has ever talked about her singing, perhaps it was because she never sang in front of anyone…till now. There was definitely a friendly aura from the girl, and as the seconds passed by, Alaska felt more and more at ease. She chuckled at the question being asked to her. “My birthday is long passed. I just like to sing alone sometimes. It makes me feel free and strong. And yes, I’m a first year.”

As soon as she answered the question, another girl who seemed quite frustrated walked past Rowan and Alaska. She dryly said a “Hi’ as she climbed up to a rock near them. Why the negative attitude? Is she in a bad mood or is she usually like this? Alaska didn't want to jump to conclusions, however, she felt the need to go up to the girl and talk to her. She glanced at Rowan and made a sort of confused gesture with her face. She whispered in her ear: "Should we go talk to her? or leave her alone."

Rowan already had party plans in mind. It made sense right? To be singing a birthday song because it was your birthday? It could be down by the lake! But, unfortunately, her hopes were quickly dashed as the girl corrected her. So no party then. Ah well. "Sounds like a good enough reason to me," she said, with a shrug. It sounded pretty, which was generally a good enough reason for music. "Do you sing any other songs?" With a voice that nice, she had to, right?

A moment later, though, a girl walked by, dropping a 'hi' before walking past them and climbing up onto a rock. Uh, okay? Rowan stared for a moment, confused. It sounded like she didn't really want to talk to them, but then why did she say hi? People were so weird. A glance over at Alaska gave her the impression that the two girls were in the same boat on this one. "I'm not sure," she whispered back. "She doesn't seem overly friendly, but she also said hi, so I'm not sure what she wants." Maybe she was just bad at meeting people and making friends? "Maybe we should give her a chance?"

Running on the idea that she wouldn't have said anything if she didn't want to actually talk to them, Rowan reached for Alaska's hand, with the intent of dragging her along, so that the Gryffindor wouldn't have to do this alone, just incase this girl turned out to be scary. "Hi," she said, repeating the girl's greeting. "I'm Rowan, and this is Alaska." Now what was she supposed to say? It wasn't like they'd been doing anything that they could invite her to join, and she didn't want to put Alaska on the spot by telling this girl about her singing voice. "How's the view?" was what she settled on, figuring it a safe enough topic.

Eri continued to look at the lake until the two girls came up to her rock. If she didn't want them to say hello then why did she say hello to them first. So she decided to answer them. Maybe talking would help her mood. "Hello. I'm Eri. Umm the view I guess is fine. Sorry I interrupted. Just needed a breather." Eri said the looked back out at the lake. The rock wasn't huge but it was enough room to fit her sitting on top of it and it had a good the of the lake.

The brunette didn't want to seem rude but she did interrupt them so she wasn't going to tell them to leave. She was a bit frustrated so she kind of would like to make some friends. Because she wasn't very good at making friends and this time  might be different. Though she didn't see how this time would be different. Though she would try her hardest not to come off rude. Since she wasn't used to talking to new people.

The Ravenclaw continued to look at the Lake instead of the two girls. The still water reflecting everything around it. Making pictures on the glassy surface.

Alaska could clearly tell Eri was not in the mood to talk to them. As the Ravenclaw girl stared back towards the water, Alaska followed her gaze, now looking at the water too. The water was indeed beautiful. It was getting dark, but the sun hasn't sunk yet. The sky painted a magnificent gradient of violet to orange, with the bright ball of sun half submerged in the Great Lake. Each ripple of water reflected a bit of sunlight while also taking in bits of purple, making it seem as if there were moving spots of bittersweet shimmer.

This wasn't like Alaska, but she felt the need to comfort Eri. It was in her nature, and it made her slightly uncomfortable that someone was in a bad mood. Since Rowan already heard Alaska sing, it wouldn't be so bad to sing again for Eri.

Alaska faced Rowan, then towards Eri, and put on a nervous smile. This was certainly a rare occurrence  for Alaska. Perhaps the more she stayed with people, the more confident she will get.
She asked Eri with a faint hesitation: "Hey umm, I can tell you're in a bad mood. It always comforted me when someone sang to me when I had a bad temper. Would you like me to sing a song?"

Rowan wasn't so sure about this idea of talking to someone who obviously didn't want to talk to them. But the girl wouldn't have come over and stayed so close to them if she didn't want anything to do with them, right? That would just be weird, even if she was weirdly connected to that rock or something like that. Maybe the girl was just desperate for friends or something like that. Rowan got that. When she'd first gotten to Hogwarts, she had desperately wanted friends.

"It's totally fine," she said to the new, grumpy looking girl. She glanced over at Alaska, shrugging. "It's nice to meet you." She wasn't totally sure if that was true, but it was better than saying it wasn't. Alaska was clearly better at reading this girl than she was, and Rowan was grateful for it. Rowan would have just assumed that this girl was a jerk, and wouldn't have even picked up on the whole bad mood idea. "You definitely want to hear her sing," she suggested to the new girl, like it was some sort of secret or something. "She has the most beautiful voice." Granted, she'd only heard the one song from Alaska, and had known her for about five minutes, but she felt confident in her recommendation. "Don't worry, I'm not going to sing. That would just make you angry because I suck at singing." Or that's what Theo told her anyway.
