Lakeside Schoolwork
Like most other students, Coriander wasn't too pleased with the amount of schoolwork that she had to do for her classes. The castle was huge and it beckoned to her, yet she had to spend almost every evening writing essays and observing the grounds from a window in the Hufflepuff common room. Yeah, yeah, she was learning magic and making memories and all that, but still she just wanted to explore the castle and everything surrounding it.
It was a step up when Coriander was assigned to a group project. It was still homework, but now she was suffering with someone else. Maybe they'd even do most of the work, who knows? Some kids are like that. Besides, even if Coriander did have to do her part of the work, it was Defense Against the Dark Arts, which was a reasonably entertaining class. It had nothing on Potions, but Coriander always found herself enthralled regardless.
It got even better when it was agreed that they would go to the great lake to study. So far, Coriander hadn't spent much time in that area of the Hogwarts grounds. It was something of a mystery to her. A beautiful, elaborate, green mystery, with the dark lake right in the middle. Maybe that wasn't a good description, but that was how Coriander thought of it. Now she would get to spend an undetermined amount of time doing her schoolwork beside it, and Coriander couldn't help but get excited at the idea.
Coriander got down to the lake right after dinner, lugging her bag with her. It was filled with all the quills, parchment, and books she could carry, even though she obviously didn't need all of it. Coriander figured, if she carried it around for long enough, at some point it would stop hurting. Wasn't that how strength worked? Really it was just a tough-sounding cover up for the fact that having her things with her was comforting.
Beside a nice, shaded tree was where Coriander put down her bag. She sat next to it in the dirt, not caring if her robes got dirty. She had several pairs, and it wasn't as if dust was going to kill her. Alone for a few minutes, Coriander decided to spend this time staring at the lake. If she looked hard enough, she could almost see something moving.
Coriander lifted her gaze when she heard footsteps heading towards her.

Winifrey walked through the corridors of Hogwarts that led to the great lake. She had her books tucked neatly in her arms' embrace as she made her way outside. Her bag was slung across her shoulders, but she didn't have time to put her things away as she made her way out of the great hall.
The small brunette was being tutored by an older student, as she was having a hard time focusing. But her tutor had praised her for her work, so she was in a happy mood. She had finished her Potions and Charms homework with her tutor and she had felt a huge weight lifted off of her shoulders as she no longer had to worry about the tedious homework.
As the sunlight hit her face, Winifrey squinted slightly as she looked for the group she would be studying with. She spotted the Hufflepuff girl sitting under a tree, shaded by the branches filled with leaves. The days were getting warmer as the summer got closer. She made her way over, the lake next to her as it glistened under the sunlight. Every time she saw it, she was amazed by how massive it was. Her thoughts wandered to what magical creatures lay beneath the crystal blue waters.
She had only been here a couple of times to study and it was always pleasant. There was always a wonderful breeze and just being near a body of water was peaceful to Winifrey. She would sometimes lay in the grass, maybe even fall asleep, or she would climb a tree. But she had never gone for a swim, although she had seen some students jump into the great lake.
The green grass tickled her ankles as she made her way to Coriander, if she remembered correctly when the professor called out the names for the groups. Winifrey stayed standing when she finally came close enough to speak.
"Hi," She greeted cheerfully, adjusting the books in her arms. "I'm Winifrey, I don't think we've properly met," She smiled, slowly lowering herself to the ground as she set her books down to the side. The damp grass immediately began seeping into her robes, but she did not mind. It was somewhat refreshing. The breeze came as it pushed the hair out of her face, Winifrey immediately pulling some of the grass out of habit. She broke it in pieces between her fingers.

Coriander smiled at the girl who had approached. She liked to think of herself as good at first impressions. It was usually further pursuing friendships that she had trouble with. "I'm Coriander - Coriander Bloom, not that it matters." The girl - Winifrey, as she said - seemed friendly enough at first glance. Certainly she wasn't hostile in any way, and had come prepared to do her share of the work.
As much as Coriander would have liked to stir up a bit of trouble, there was no way to tell if Winifrey would be supportive of that idea. And besides, they had come out here to do work, and it would be a waste if they were to not get anything done. With this in mind, Coriander opened up her bag and pulled out a few books, as well as some parchment and a quill and ink.
"What books did you bring?" Coriander asked, getting right down to business. Maybe if they were done early, Coriander could go on a walk around the lake, or dip her toes into the glassy water. "I've got The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self Protection and Magical Theory, plus a couple of others. I wasn't sure what we would need." To be honest, Coriander had no idea what she was doing with 80% of her schoolwork. She made it up on the fly, hoping it would resemble what they had told her to do. Perhaps Winifrey was the sort of person to actually pay attention when the teacher was calling out schoolwork.

Winifrey smiled at the girl's kindly introduction. Her eyes glanced to the colors that she wore, curiosity growing at the sign of the Hufflepuff colors. She tried to remember if she had yet to meet a Hufflepuff, but her memory came up blank.
The small brunette laid her books out in front of her, gathering her papers that were slightly crumpled as she had either stuffed them hastily into her bag or left them inside the books themselves. She was not the tidiest person on the planet. In fact, some considered her quite messy. Especially her mother.
Winifrey pressed her lips together as the girl asked about what books she had with her. She had her charms and potions books since she had been working on those classes with her tutor just before this meeting. As for Defense Against the Dark Arts, she only had the Dark Forces book.
"Just the Dark Forces one, I am afraid," She responded, shrugging slightly as she shifted in her spot on the grass. She turned her head slightly as she scanned the area for the other girls that were suppose to join them. She supposed they might as well just get started. The others could catch up later.
"Okay," Winifrey started, tucking strands of light brown hair behind her ears as she planted a smile on her face. It was the one she always wore when starting homework. It encouraged her in a way. "I think I wrote down the assignment on one of these pages..." She trailed off as she shuffled through the pages that were crumpled about. Slightly embarrassed at the mess, Winifrey sheepishly stuffed some papers back in her bag along with the potions and charms books.
"Umm..." The small brunette trailed off once again as she squinted at the papers in front of her, reading what they said. Her brow pulled slightly together as she bit her lip. Where was that paper? It had to be here somewhere. She distinctly remembered writing the assignment down when it was given during class. Perhaps she had forgotten it during her tutoring session in the library? Winifrey frowned at the thought. She did have a tendency to pull out all of her things from her bag before doing her homework.
"Did you write the assignment down somewhere, Coriander?" Winifrey asked, grabbing her bag to search the papers inside once again. "I can not seem to find the paper where I wrote it down..."

Heyy, sorry for the late response. I wanted to see if the other girls would jump in, but it does not seem that they will. So we can just continue on with what we have
sorry again!
