"Awesome!" Simon had exclaimed excitedly when Dakota had agreed to accompany him to the Great Lake for a Summer swim on that evening. "Meet me outside the Great Hall just after supper's end. I know they say don't eat right before you swim but I'm sure it'll be fine." It would definitely be fine for him as he didn't often eat all that much. His appetite just wasn't there for food, as odd as that may or may not have been.
He grabbed his bag that was there with him in the Rehearsal Room and scurried off, heading to the boys lavatory as well as the boys dormitory within the Hufflepuff wing. One didn't just go to the Lake without planning, after all. He needed towels, extra clothes, swim trunks, suntan lotion, water, and so forth.

He packed up enough things for both he and Dakota and when supper's end came he found her at the entrance to the Great Hall as she was leaving. "Dakota! Hey! Over here!" he shouted so that he'd get her attention despite the crowd that was now filling the corridors.
It wasn't just Hogwarts students that filled the halls these days after meal times but the students from the visiting schools as well. He didn't want her to pass him by and thought he stood her up because that wasn't the case. He was there with sunscreen and hoodie on (despite it being hot outside) and was ready to venture out to the grounds.

Dakota hadn’t generally expected Simon to actually want to go swimming, though she had packed a bag for it just in case. The satchel that now bounced against her hip as she walked from the Great Hall with a pencil scribbling in a notebook. When she heard Simon she dropped her notebook quickly into the satchel and hurried over to him, her brown hair having been straightened to make it easier on herself with pulling it back into a ponytail and washing it the morning after before breakfast but it was a bit odd to see Dakota without her fluffy and curly hair.In her bag she carried a beach towel that had buttons along it and extra clothing for after, her swimsuit hidden underneath her current outfit. Giving Simon a light smile she blinked softly, deciding not to voice the fact that Dakota had thought Simon was just pulling her leg with swimming in the Great Lake. Instead, she settled on a greeting “hi Simon, are you ready?” tucking her hands behind her back, Dakota raised a eyebrow lightly. It was a stance that forced someone to relax, something Dakota was struggling with a bit now that her thoughts screamed her worries at her, but she wasn’t going to back down, not after telling Simon she would swim with him.@Simon Kincaid

Heading with @Dakota Olson to the Lake
"Ready as a beaver with a stack full of sticks," he responded but then paused because...what? He smiled, trying to cover up the fact that he could be a complete dork sometimes and motioned for her to follow as they made their way down the small corridor from the Great Hall to the Entrance Hall where they could depart through the large wooden doors to the Grounds of the school.
The evening sun cast long shadows on the ground and soon it would give way to a warm orange tinge to the sky, followed by the sky being ablaze with fire. It would be a beautiful sight.
He pulled up the hood from his sweatshirt over his head and knew that it would be a rather awkward thing to do as it was quite warm outside. Often people wondered why he wore it on the hot days and he always tried to change the subject rather than lie. Simon didn't like lying.
"Have you been to the Lake often?" he asked as they began on the pathway that was adorned by trees that would lead them to their destination. He had been there only a handful of times, despite the school year almost at an end. He was excited for this evening, even if it might lead to a bit of a burn later on.

Dakota was a bit curious as to why Simon had pulled the hood up let alone wore a hoodie while it was summer but she decided not to ask. At first she didn’t respond to Simons question, seeming to be watching ahead of herself before she blinks “oh—no, not really, I typically spend a lot of time on the grounds drawing or reading so I never truly have a reason to sit by the lake.” she preferred to be outside, it helped her stay calm as there was rarely any chance to be caught up in a place where she felt trapped.Looking down at her feet for a moment before Dakota looked back at Simon, smiling sweetly as she puffs out a breath “what about you? How often do you come out here?” her gaze showed curiosity but also a bit of anxiety. Dakota had never been a strong swimmer or a very talkative person but she supposed that even then it would be fun at least and she had made a new friend. Keeping her smile she continued along the path as she turned her gaze back to it, watching ahead of her again as her thoughts swirled.@Simon Kincaid

Almost to the lake with Dakota Olson
"Hardly at all, really. It's a shame. I wish I could spend more time out here," he said, speaking before really thinking. He did wish there was more time though because soon there would be an entire Summer away from this home away from home and he would miss it dearly. Luckily though it wasn't a permanent retreat and he'd be returning for his Second year come that Fall.
"You draw?" that sparked his interest. He knew she liked to chart things like her father, he knew she could play the ukulele, and he knew she liked to read just based on their first encounter, but he didn't know about the drawing part.
"That's truly awesome. I tried to take up drawing once. I think I was about nine. I got pretty serious about it and tried to draw different things and draw every single day but...let's just say that it didn't turn out to be one of my talents. Some people are gifted in it and others, well, we should stick to coloring books if we want to do art." Actually, to some he wasn't all that bad, but he was his own worst critic when it came to any sketching that he had done.
He could now start to see the lake just through the pathway where some of the trees began to open up. The water seemed calm. That was a good thing.

Dakota let out a light laugh, nodding “I’ve been drawing since I was young, it helped me visual certain scenes in book..” pausing for a moment Dakota gave a joking tone “you should see me rollarskating, that’s the thing I’m most proud of since I’m the clumsiest person my family knows.” before taking up rollarskating Dakota had remained inside mostly as she would trip over almost anything, even a tiny rock. Peering at Simon with a soft look Dakota gave him a encouraging smile “I’m sure it’s wonderful, Simon, everyone has different standards and ideas of what’s amazing or not and it’s hard to be proud of your own work sometimes.” Dakota knew that feeling all too well, going into something you think will be amazing and then seeing it as a fail. Shaking her head lightly Dakota gave a soft laugh ”now painting? Especially watercolors, is what I truly fail at.” never being able to blend the colors with paint well together Dakota hadn’t touched paint in years, the last time she did was for a art project in her muggle school.When Dakota saw the lake through the same pathway as Simon she let out a breath, her worries now being overcome with her excitement. Keeping her excited nature hidden, she still walked at Simons side, tilting her head lightly “hey, maybe if we’re ever around where the other lives I could take you to a rollarskating ring.” having a bit of a joking tone, she remembered it was how Dakota learned and not only that but she thought it would be a fun idea. She doubted she’d have reason to ever visit England or Simon would have reason to visit Scotland, giving the impression that this would most likely not happen anyway.@Simon Kincaid

Skating talk and swimming with @Dakota Olson
"That'd be amazing. I've never been on roller skates before. I wonder if it's anything like ice skating. Now that...I'm good at. I learned how to play hockey starting around the age of six and we had to learn to skate first before we could throw on all the other stuff. I can do a lutz, a loop, a sit spin. It's pretty impressive. Almost as impressive as my dancing," he laughed, not really meaning that part. He liked to dance, but it was just for fun.
"Race you to the water's edge," he said, and took off running before she even had a chance to try and protest otherwise. He ran fast, very fast, but that was his dhampir nature to have his movements quicker than others and stronger than others. He was at the water's edge in no time, now laying his bag on a grassy patch.
"Merpeople are nice, aren't they?" he asked, glancing in the water but he couldn't see anything through it. And what else were down there? The squid. Grindylows. What else?
Oh, it didn't matter! He was doing this! Simon took a moment to compose himself and get himself ready for the sun (even if it wasn't at its full capacity) and he removed his hoodie first and set it down by his bag and then did the same with his shirt.
He didn't hesitate to feel the water first to see if it was warm or cold and instead decided to dive right in, literally. The temperature was cold but not frigid, a refreshing sort of cold on this Summer day.

”Well you could say rollarskating is similar I—“when Simon had first said this Dakota was taken by surprise as she was speaking, it taking a few seconds for her to comprehend what had just happened before she followed after Simon. Dakota was able to pick up speed halfway through when she started running but of course it wasn’t enough to catch up to Simon. Once she reached the lakes edge Dakota puffed for a few moments before laughing, showing her apple cheeks again as she raised a eyebrow at Simon “how in the world are you so fast??” it was more of a jokingly asked question than a actual question.Once Dakota caught her breath though it didn’t take long she took her dress off, showing a one piece swimsuit was under it. After this she pulled her slip-on shoes off, setting them down by her leather satchel and slipping gingerly down into the Great Lake. When she was in, Dakota treaded in the water “well, we don’t know much about merpeople so it’s not clear how friendly they are..” as this statement slipped out Dakota blinked, seeming to silently reassure herself they’d be safe. Dakotas hair barely swished along the top of the water as she kept afloat by treading, smiling at Simon.@Simon Kincaid

Which game to play with @Dakota Olson
"I'm sure they'll like you and I'll make them like me. I could sing to them, make them feel more at ease if we agitate them by any means," he smiled, but no, he didn't think there would be any problem. The water seemed calm and he shook his head a little so that his hair would move from being fallen in front of his eyes.
"Alright, so what kind of water games do you like to play? Shark and minnow tag? Marco Polo? Add on?" Those were all games that he and his muggle friends back in London would sometimes play at the indoor pools there. He had two particular favorite pools, The Aquatics Centre which had originally been built for the 2012 London games and the other was Repton Park - a gym of sorts where his aunt took a membership. It used to be a former church so it was a pretty cool place for a swim. Both of those locations were.
He didn't do much outdoor swimming though. One of his best mates lived in a townhome sort of complex that had a pool and he did swim there a time or two at night. He was beginning to understand now. Even though the sun was low and it wasn't as strong, it still reflected off the water, making it stronger than ever. He could feel the slight burn and it hadn't been much time. To counter this a moment, he took under the water a moment and came back up, doing that shake of his head again to brush aside the hair.

Dakota rolls her eyes lightly, still smiling at Simon as she laughs “I suppose they’d like me..not so sure about you.” she had a teasing tone, keeping her warm smile. Tilting her head lightly, Dakota took in a breath, thinking about what games she wanted to play though she definitely wasn’t sure. The last time she had been in the water swimming was in the creek by her grandparents home and played chicken. That’s where the scar along her lower back came from, slamming into a rock on the bottom of the creek after she had been knocked over. It wasn’t very exciting, just put her out of doing things for the next few weeks.Letting out a groan she tilted her head at Simon, ”i’m not sure what any of those are, the only games I played in the water was chicken with my siblings.” giving a sorry look Dakota puffed a breath. Keeping her head tilted she yet again raised a eyebrow “how about you decide..it’d honestly take too long for indecisive me to decide.” Dakota seemed to be poking fun at herself, her smile returning. She knew Simon had asked her to choose but she was fine with really anything as normally all she did when swimming was, well, swim.@Simon Kincaid
