Trust the cat
The wind blew around the lake creating a certain chill in the air. One that allowed for many to remain inside by the fire of the common rooms or great hall catching up with friends and laughing the day away. Henry Knight chose to spend the day alone and outside as he walked along the ground with a book underneath his arm and his young orange cat; Loki by his side as he approached his spot.
A large oak type tree sat on the edge of the great lake, a few of it's branches hanging over the icy blue water perfect for a day alone with a book. Instead of climbing however Henry sat underneath the tree and opened up the book letting it's words consume him and distract him from the world that surrounded everyone and everything.
As the twelve year old read, Loki decided to explore a bit instead of his usual climbing up the tree so the cat decided to walked along the grounds a bit behind his owner in search for some mischief even through the cat had trust issues that Henry was aware of. Although the first person the cat would meet, Loki would sit in front of them and just look almost observing them.

It had been over a month since Stanley had decided to go down to the lake. He had admitted to himself it was his favorite place to just sit and have some alone time. Ever since he had met Marshal and Leonard, he had not gotten much time to himself and wanted just that little bit of space before something horrible happened leaving him with no friends again.
The small boy slowly strolled down towards the lake holding a teddy bear in one hand and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the other, Marshal had introduced him to them. A cool breeze danced around Stanley's body causing a small shiver to go up his spine. "I don't think it was the best idea to come out here now." He softly whispered to himself and slightly squinted his eyes to see if he could see anything that would determine whether he should stay or not.
A rustle of his robe caught his attention and brought him to look down at his legs slowly, preparing for the worst to come into his vision. To his surprise, Stanley saw a ginger cat sat staring up at him with wide eyes. He brought his arms to his chest and hugged Big Ted hoping it wasn't there to hurt him.
It was a beautiful cat.
"Hello." Stanley whispered placing his sandwich into the closest pocket and reaching out a hand slowly before retracing it and taking a big gulp. "Are you lost?" He lifted his head up slightly looking for anyone to see if they knew the owner of the cat.

Loki would approach the boy and sniff his hand before rub against his legs in a friendly matter but unusually the cat didn't purr. Loki never purred even when he was being affectionate like he was at that moment as Loki rubbed the boy's leg and seemed quite pleased with himself for finding the stranger since his own owner was to occupied with a book.
Loki after rubbing on the boy's legs would sit in front of the boy and lift his right paw and slightly wave it in front of him like a dog would do for the trick 'shake' however Loki was doing it to ask the boy to pet him.
Meanwhile Henry would then his page as he looked up and noticed that his feline cat wasn't anywhere by him so he quickly stood up closing his book along the way as he searched for his orange feline friend. Henry came out from behind the tree as his eyes were looking around his cat that's when he saw his cat with a unfamiliar boy and hoped that Loki didn't starch him as he approached.
"Uh hello, I'm so sorry if my cat was bothering you. He never ran off like that before," Henry spoke once he got to the two before looking down at his feline and feeling his face flush as he looked back at the boy before saying " again so sorry if he was bothering you or anything."

Stanley brought Big Ted closer to his chest and bent down balancing on the heels of his feet while continuing to look back at the cat. He lifted his free hand once again and put it on top of the cat's soft head wearily before moving his fingers behind it's ear and scratching while letting a small giggle release from his soft lips.
The boy was having mixed feelings about the cat. His last interaction with a cat had not ended well but that had been over a year ago. The feline in front of him could either be really friendly and love him so much or it could pounce on him a any moment with his deathly claws.
However, it didn't seem like the latter was going to be possible at that moment in time. Stanley would hopefully not provoke it in the time frame that he would be spending with the cat otherwise his opinions and view points on them would go rapidly down hill once again.
At the sound of a voice, the boy rushed up from crouching on the floor and looked towards the floor as someone spoke to him. "It is fine." He softly replied, "As long as he does not hurt me or Big Ted then I wouldn't mind spending more time with him."
He brought his eyes towards the boy and saw a quite dashing young lad who was holding a book in one arm and stood right next to what seemed to be his cat. "I-I'm Stanley. St-Stanley Buttons." He muttered out quietly hoping to not scare off the boy.

Henry didn't mean to but his just easily picked up on things as he noticed the bear in the boy's hands and how he looked to be a year younger than him so perhaps a first year before his eyes looked at his robes and rested on the other boy's eyes.
Henry would nod a bit toward his comment about his feline and spending time with him before nodding a bit with a smile as he spoke " I'm glad he wasn't bothering you or big Ted," The twelve year old wasn't sure if he should have mentioned his bear but decided to add it for some reason that he didn't even know as he brushed a few strands of hair from his eyes.
Loki would paw at the boy for a bit longer before looking between the two and finally sitting between them occasionally flickering his tail while the cat looked like he was listening to their conversation.
Henry nodded a bit with a smile when the but introduced himself as Stanley Buttons which allowed him to recognize an strong British accent that belong to the boy much like Henry's. Before also noticing that he had bright but also a mix of dark green eyes and blonde hair that was definitely shorter than Henry not that he cared a bit about height while Henry spoke, " nice t..to meet you Stanley, I'm Heney uh Henry Knight," not many heard of his surname including Henry even through the Knights are a famous pureblood family.
After a moment, Henry would then point toward his feline before speaking " and this is Loki," not sure what to say next he then lightly suggested Stanley's bear before saying " uh who is that?"

Stanley let a smile grow on his face and he nodded his head.
The cat, Loki, pawed at his legs for a bit longer before sitting down between them as the boy in front of Stanley and Big Ted brushed hair out of his eyes. It looked to be a bit longer than the Hufflepuff's which was pretty impressive since Stanley hadn't cut his hair in months.
Stan hadn't decided whether the silence between the three was comfortable or not. There was a presence of awkwardness since it was the first time meeting each other but there was also a comforting feeling swirling around the boy's body knowing he was safe with the two souls in front of him.
He hadn't stuttered when he had introduced himself. That had become a thing Stanley needed to get used to. As his confidence rose his subconscious that lurked in the back of the brain also needed to keep up with the sudden growth. It wasn't much but it had grown just enough so that it was starting to be a slight problem. His whispers and soft voice, though, stayed the same. That was probably never going to go.
Henry Knight. Knight sounded a familiar to Stanley but he couldn't just put him finger on it. Maybe it was the surname of one of his dad's friends. "It's nice to meet you to." He whispered slowly while gulping down a ball of air.
He looked towards Loki and let out small breath. He defiantly was really beautiful. Maybe Stanley would ask for a cat the next time he went home. The boy was sure his father would let him. After all, Santino Buttons had always wanted a pet but never had the time to get and look after one but if Stan were to do those jobs obviously it would be a win win for both of them
At the mention of his teddy, Stanley sprung to life. It was the one thing that he was immensely proud of. "This is Big Ted." He voice raised a little bit but not loud enough for anyone who wasn't listening already. "I've had him since I was born. He goes everywhere I go and he helps me out when I am in difficult situations."
He picked up the teddy and lifted it up to Henry's face hopping it wasn't to close. "Hullo, I am Big Ted." Stanley lifted Big Ted's right arm and waved it as he made his voice go deeper. The boy chuckled a bit before sitting the teddy bear back into his legs.

Henry nodded toward the boy's words as his eyes first lingered down to Loki who was still sitting between the two and the felines eyes would flicker back and forth from Henry to Stanley.
A smile on Henry's face to return on the other as he watch him hug his hear along with his soft voice it reminded Henry of something... someone... but who? Henry couldn't out his finger on it but he seem familiar or like someone else if that made sense...
Pulled away from his thoughts as Henry offered the boy a smile as he introduced his bear and the twelve year old couldn't help but smile as he replied" Big Ted seems adventurous or like a adventurous spirit," before not expecting but careful to not freak out as Stanley held the bear at his face and spoke like it was the bear.
Henry couldn't help but laugh a little as he spoke" it's nice to meet you Big Ted," before seeing that Stanley was laughing to which made Henry a bit more comfortable that he also laughed.
After a moment Henry would the remember his knitted fox toy and wonder if he should mention it since the boy haven't told anyone about it even if he did bring it to Hogwarts with him... but still he left it in his bag and never really looked at it probably because it brought back old memories of his mum and goals of wanting to be a animagi.

Stanley nodded his head happily at Henry's thoughts on Big Ted. He hummed a small thank you and went back to admiring the cat. It's beauty confused him. There was a kind of carrot-y look to it but was a tiger that could stun anyone who say it. The boy cocked his head and blinked slowly at the cat once again. "This cat is the most beautiful animal I have ever seen." He softly spoke.
Slowly, he turned towards Henry while moving a hand to his chin and rubbing it before continuing, "Other than penguins. They are just so pretty. It always looks like they are wearing a suit of some sorts. Oh, and my grandma's cat. She is a pretty thing as well." Stanley mumbled out letting his thoughts flow without any reconciliation and rubbed his forehead with his hand. "I'm over exaggerating, aren't I?"
He shrunk back into his robe and closed the gap between Big Ted and his chest. After getting comfortable with people, he always did start to ramble about anything that came to mind and his brain just could not stop what came out of his mouth. After a while of trying to make friends, he had realized it wasn't a good thing and the talking teddy bear was not helping either. Stan always let the barriers down too quickly and as soon as he knew he could lose the person in front of him, they went back up again trying to protect him from any harm.
"I- I'm sorry. I ramble to much." He whispered and took another gulp of fresh air. "I normally let Big Ted do all the talking." Which probably was not the best idea in the world. Along with almost always crying when someone walks away from his with a look of disgust.
A thought popped up into his head as he brought his hand up to his mouth to cough. Stanley mumbled out a small, "Where did you get him?" before closing his eyes tightly hoping that Henry would laugh at him and point out that it was a stupid question.

" oh, thank you," Henry replied a bit taken back by the first year's comment about Loki being the most beautiful cat he ever seen and not wanting to appear rude or self absorbent the boy quickly stated" that bear is the most adorable one I ever seen," not entirely sure if the blonde across from him would like compliment or not on his bear.
Henry however was quite glad when Stanley started speaking, so he could just listen and smile a bit. The first year was talking about how penguins were more beautiful because they always look like they were wearing a suit and also his grandmother's feline. Henry often wonder what it was like to have grandparents and see them often since the boy only saw his father's once and didn't have a good relationship with either side grandparents.
However the thoughts past and Henry noticed the first year seemed embarrassed almost because of his rambling but frankly he enjoyed it as he quickly spoke with a smile, " not at all, I actually enjoy to listen and let others talk." It was true Henry wasn't one to take all the attention or talk constantly, he much preferred to listened and pick up on things that others sometimes missed.
Henry hoped the boy wouldn't leave or be too embarrassed since this sudden conversation and social interaction actuality felt nice to comfortable to him and he didn't want to have it be over yet but unfortunately the second year heard the others words again but still kept a smile.
"I don't mind rambling, I actually love it when others do so I don't have to talk-" Henry spoke but thought hiswords sounded rude so he quickly added" I just perfer to listen and hear what others say. And from what you said so far was really interesting," Henry smiled and didn't even laugh when the kid mention letting his teddy bear do all the talking instead he replied" I understand why you let Big Ted do most of the talking, less chance that your going to say something rubbish then. That's actually really smart."
Henry heard his question and again didn't laugh as Loki rubbed against Stanley legs asking for attention while the second year smile a bit and spoke" the pet store in diagon alley, any other questions?"

"Really?" Stanley's eyes lit up and widened along with a smile that began to form along his face. He loved to hear compliments about his bear all the time. He sometimes honestly got pretty self conscious of his best friend because of how people had reacted to it. "Thank you. It was my mums."
After being told it was quite alright for him to ramble along in front of Henry, Stanley nodded his head slowly and gulped another ball of air down his throat. His hand, subconsciously, went up to the collar of his robe as he pulled it away from his body ever so slightly to allow the cool air in. Although it had become apparent that Stanley liked to talk he was also one to listen to the other half while nodding his head and humming in reply to them. However it always seemed he had to be the latter and was never able to switch between the two equally.
"People don't think I'm interesting." The boy sighed looking down and to the right slightly with a small frown creeping onto his face, "Normally, they walk away as soon as I introduce Big Ted." Stanley grabbed to bear and pulled him towards his chest.
Stanley abruptly looked towards the boy again and his frown disappeared, "Yes, exactly. I don't have to take the blame if it's Bed Ted that messes up!" Both Big Ted and Stanley were obviously the same person (with Stan putting on a slightly deeper voice) but it helped ease the boys brain knowing that he could at least learn his mistakes through the teddy bear instead of embarrassing himself anymore than he already did.
"Questions? I have a lot actually." He mumbled to himself with his soft voice. His hand went up to his chin and rubbed it slightly before nodding his head to himself and continuing, "What was your first year at Hogwarts like? Did you make any enemies? What job do you want to be when you are older? What's the book you are reading?" The questions poured out of Stanley's mouth like a waterfall and after finishing he wasn't quite sure if Henry would have caught them all quick enough. He had gone so fast a strand of hair had fallen out of place going into the boys eyes making squint hoping it would sort it self out
His cheeks and ears went red slightly as he whispered out, "That's a bit too many. You don't have to answer them all if you don't want." Stanley pushed the piece of stray hair out of the way of his eyes revealing the slightly pointer than normal ears when realizing that hair doesn't move on it's own and he would have to do it manually.
