Why was transfiguration so hard? How decided to make transfiguration so hard? Who ever it was Adlai didn’t like because now, on the little time she had off she actually had to study.
Wanting out of her suddenly stuffy dorm room she decided it would be nice to sit by the lake while she loathsomely read from one of the several books she had to purchase for transfiguration.
Last year she was so easily excited over anything and everything here. She still was but at a smaller degree. However, it was only now that she realized that this indeed was a school and that her parents cared about her grades. Especially her great aunt, who apparently had some sort of access to her report card.
The sound of her aunts shrill voice from the howler she sent her last week still range in her head. Who knew such a generally proper and socially withdrawn woman could be so loud.
Adlai rubbed her temples as her eyes began to cross while looking at the text of the academic book. Finally giving up she chucked the book in front of her. She pulled her knees up her chin, crossed her arms over them, and buried her head in them before letting out a long annoyed groan.

Kyle rubbed his face as he walked towards the Lake. His hair was messy and unkempt save for a couple braids held by Celtic beads, and from the bags under his eyes it could be assumed it might have been days since he last got some sleep. He slipped his hands into his leather jacket.
The previous night Kyle had spent as a beast, transformed by the full moon in a quite painful fashion to thrash and smash and pace around the basement of the shrieking shack until the sun rose to once again force his body through a painful transformation back to human. Between the pre-transformation state the week leading up to it, and all the transformation took from him he had little left to give. Least of all his patented aggression or hostility.
When he came to the Tree he usually visited he couldn't help but notice a girl near by chuck a book and start to hug her legs. He let out a slight sigh as he put his back against the tree and slid down into a sitting position. "Don't turn your back on em, Never know when they will decide to strike back" The dry delivery made it unclear if he was making a joke or a sincere statement as his steel blue eyes looked over the lake

"Don't turn your back on em, Never know when they will decide to strike back.” Adlai heard a voice behind her say. Popping her head in curiosity as to who it might be, she turned around to see a tried looking boy.
“The book?” She asked, not sure who or what the boy was talking about, or if he was even talking to her. Her accent was strange, it seemed Welsh but mixed with something else. She also had a small lisp thanks to the metal wires and brackets that have lined her teeth since last winter. She wore a matching pair of grey sweat pants and a sweat shirt, the extra fabric of her baby blue hijab was draped over her shoulder.
She had never seen this boy before, or at least didn’t remember seeing him. Then again she didn’t remember much from last year or the beginning of this year as it was mainly one big blur of excitement and fear for Adlai. But now that’s she’s calmed down and settled into the second school year just thinking about it only made her head hurt. She couldn’t work out the details of anything she learned last year, which only made transfiguration all the more fun.

He stared at at the lake for awhile, blinking when he could remember to. It took him a moment to really realize the girl had replied to him. he shook his head and looked towards her. He couldn't say he was 100% sure he had seen the kind of headdress she was wearing before, but he wore muggle cloths many have said looked like something taken from a dumpster so who was he to judge anyone's fashion choices.
Kyle nodded a few times as he glanced to the book. "Yeah. The book. Some can-" he trailed off and shook his head. before reaching up and pinching the bridge of his nose. Not everyone shared his stance on books, especially as irrational as it was. now was probably not the best time to go into that. He shrugged "Nevermind dont worry about it..."
He hadn't seen this girl around before. he knew that much. as bad as he was at remembering names he could have remembered her. assuming the head scarf was an every day thing and not just because today was a bit breezy. he was fairly certain she wasnt a ravenclaw tossing books which meant snake or badger. and considering how many badgers he threw in the lake he was hoping snake. "What are you doing out here throwing books and pouting into your legs anyway"

“Studying...or at least trying to.” Adlai said. You couldn’t exactly study when you’ve thrown your book. Then again, in a way it deserved it for containing such unnecessarily difficult text.
“What are doing out here? Getting fresh air” she asked him as she looked up at him with her almond shaped eyes, her pupils the size of a does. She could gage that he was bigger than her, that was for sure.
Moving her body to be in his direction a bit more she was able to see him more properly. He had beads in his hair. She had never seen someone with beads in their hair. At least not unless they were wearing some kind of traditional garb.
“I like your beads.” She said.
She hadn’t worn any traditional clothing since she had last visited her mother’s parents a few summers ago. And she highly doubted they’d be visiting them again any time soon since they practically live on the other side of the world.
“What’s your name?”
Perhaps she had heard of him before. Her dorm mates seemed to know everything about everyone. Though, Adlai was embarrassed to admit that she didn’t speak to her dorm mates. She didn’t even know their names.

Kyle took a deep breath and let it out slowly. What was he doing here? The fresh air was nice, his sensitive sense of smell grew tired of the smell of ink, books, other kids cloths, and all the dust and stone and general funk of a castle filled with 7 years worth of kids. Out here there was the smell of the lake, the grass, and whatever else the breeze carried him. It was much less overwhelming and distasteful. Ofcourse, he couldn't really go into that. Or that he was so tired because of the way his body is ravaged every full moon by the curse he carries in his blood. He rubbed his face and just nodded a few times "Yeah, fresh air. Not enough of it inside the castle. Plus its quieter"
When she complimented the beads in his hair and first he was confused. Beads? what be- then it hit him. His cousin had given him some, as he called them, Viking braids. He was surprised they survived the transformation. He really needed to compliment her on her work. "oh, uh. these yeah. Celtic knots" for a moment he almost heard the correct term for them in the tone his cousin always had when she was correcting him on things "triquetra? I think thats what these called" he reached up and fiddled with one with his left hand, exposing a scar cut into the back of his hand. A keen eye would notice it looked like a Rune, and someone educated on them would know it was the Elder Futhark rune for Wolf.
Then, she asked his name. He was sure once she heard his name she would quickly get up and scurry off. After all, no less than four hufflepuffs had been thrown into this lake by him and Jake Morris had been terrorized by him on more than one occasion. This Gryffindor bully, and former quidditch captain was sure to have some reputation. How wide that reputation spread however, was anyone's guess. "Kyle DeRook. Answer to Rook more often than not if that strikes ya"

“I get that the school can get pretty stuffy.”she said at this answer of fresh air. That was partly why she was out here as well. Her the noise of her houses common room and the constant dust that somehow kept appearing in the study room, she wanted out.
She then watched his face twist in confusion at the mention of beads. Had he not known they were there? Perhaps he had forgotten. When you wear something for so long that tends to happen, weather it be beads, glasses, earrings, and her case her hijab. She’s accidentally fallen asleep in it more times than she can count. Thus she didn’t judge him for not having a clue about what she was talking about.
“Well then I like your triquetra.” She liked calling things by their proper names rather, in a way she felt like she was being rude if she didn’t.
Then he said his name. She had heard some of her house mates talk about him but she wasn’t why. Being completely oblivious to what he’s done she leaned forward held her hand out to him, if he would even shake her hand, and smiled. “It’s nice to meet you Rook. I’m Adlai, Adlai Rod.”
