Clair de Lune PV Seulrene An Closed

[cont. from Nouveau Départ ]
September 1, 2019
Everything began to move quick from the moment they arrived at the platform, led by the head boys and girls as they let off the first years last amongst all. They were immediately greeted by three professors, two wizards and a witch - to which he'd assume were his soon-to-be professors.

“First years this way!”
“Come, come now we have quite a large amount of you to get over the lake. So in an orderly fashion if you would.”

Their voices reverberated amidst the crowd, dividing them into three groups and wasted zero time into moving them down the steep, and dark, narrow path leading to somewhere, he’d assume, towards the palace.

Klaus had his eyes set on the full moon through the murky journey, watching it grace the sky as if it had some brilliant idea to shine upon the dark Earth. He had always been fond of moons, much more than gazing at the stars. It wasn’t until they reached the jetty that he saw how the moonlight shone down onto the great lake, seemingly blazing there. The reflection created the illusion of sparkles, twinkling back at him, leading up to the most amazing view of the Hogwarts castle.

Then, there was a sort of explosion in his brain that went off; the good sort - the type that carried more possibilities than he could ever be conscious of, it was the same explosion he felt when he got to explore the streets of England for the first time. He felt it strongly - it was the calling card of an adventure, a new path awaiting him. Whatever this adventure was ahead, it was his to take, and so the boy grinned. And he grinned so lovely.

“Wow…” He managed to breathe out, the butterflies in his stomach fluttered rapidly as he glanced over at Seulrene with wide almond-shaped eyes - as if seeking for some sort of reassurance that this was all real and it was not a dream.

“Four to a boat! Three boats will have three students only as a teacher needs to be in there as well!”
The woman in front of him called, the other professor waving his lamp around to shed light amidst the looming darkness. “Do not worry you won’t have to row the bows yourselves they are enchanted as are many things here at Hogwarts. Just try to relax and enjoy the view once we get started.”

Upon hearing this, Klaus' excitement grew just as vast as the lake before him. He immediately looked around for any empty slots. “Allez, Seul!” He said, and as if on instincts, he grabbed the little girl’s small hand into his own and tugged her along towards the boat that had more space for them to occupy.

It was already dark out and the atmosphere grew a lot more mysterious, though that didn’t change the fact that the sight was unbelievably bewitching. Seul could not take her eyes off the glistening reflection of the moon on the lake as the two first years followed the professors through the narrow paths. That in and of itself was a spectacle worthy of her praise, not to mention the grandiose stone castle across the lake which stood proudly atop the cliff. Despite being situated in the middle of nowhere, it seemed to bring so much vitality and warmth. The view only got better as the first years gathered in the clearing behind the dock, now able to see the full reflection of the palace in the water. Off in the distance, she could spot tiny carriages moving towards the school… although they weren’t being pulled by anything? She could only assume that upper years were in the carriages. She had read about it recently in Hogwarts: A History, where first years entered the grounds through the lake while second to seventh years rode around it. Certainly it had to have some significance, perhaps symbolizing the beginning of their journey.

It would be a lie to say that Seul wasn’t excited, because she was… very much so. Never had she felt so many butterflies in her stomach, granted every other first year must be feeling the same thing. Even Klaus looked at her with both disbelief and anticipation in his eyes. In response, the girl beamed her midnight eyes gleaming with moonlight back at the boy as some manner of reassurance that this was indeed not a dream no matter how surreal it felt.

The dock was lined with small boats, with the professors guiding the students into each one. Klaus seemed to have spotted a few empty seats and tugged on Seul’s hand.

“Allez, Seul!”

Once again Klaus had caught Seul off guard, after all, the boy seemed to have a knack to do unexpected things… chivalrous, but unanticipated. It startled her for a moment, but the girl returned to her senses. No boy has took her by the hand before, especially someone she had just met, so the only natural reaction would be to break away, however, for some reason Seul allowed the boy to guide her towards the dock. Maybe she’ll let it slide just this once.

“Simply amazing, isn’t it?” Seul commented as she carefully stepped into the boat, using Klaus’s hands as a balancing tool.

Klaus was light on his feet as he got onto the boat carefully, still holding Seulrene’s hand as he aided her with her balance as she, too, stepped into the micro vessel. He settled into the little bench provided, nodding his head to the other few peers who were on board with them as a form of greeting while he whispered out a small hello. Snapping his gaze back at the lake and the perfect view of Hogwarts in front of him, he began to notice the tiny carriages in the distance not too far off as it moved towards the magnificent castle.

“Are those the upper years?” He asked pointing to the groups of landau and looked back at Seulrene, catching the glimmer of shared fascination in her eyes; which caused him to grin widely. “Truly brilliant.” He responded, giving a firm nod.

With a call of the professor’s final affirmation, the boats began to jerk forward which surprised Klaus as he grabbed onto the sides for balance. It was moving accordingly on its own, he was sure of it, he didn’t hear the sounds of propellers or engine humming beneath him nor did he feel a sudden strong breeze to push them along the surface. “Étonnant!” He breathed out under his breath, grinning happily at the never-ending amazement of what magic was able to do.

He was quick to look over the sides of the vessel to stare into the pitch black lake, catching his reflection with the moon. It was like peering through a perfect glass mirror, unsmudged by sticky fingerprints. His blonde wavy locks, messily styled but for some reason it had been purposely done in that manner; and he still managed to look fashionable despite otherwise; seemed to compliment his pale skin and dark eyes. He knew it himself, that he had been gifted with most of his mother’s genes, only left with his father’s eyes.

The boy began to wonder if this was all that his father saw looking at him. Then maybe he could understand why he was being treated so ill, all of the sudden.

So lost in his thoughts that he failed to notice as he blinked, he was just barely able to catch something lurking in the mysterious darkness. The sight caught him off-guard, eyes widening a bit as he leaned back; catching the glimpse of movement once more with better attention. His eyes definitely did not deceive him as he reached out blindly behind him to tap onto Seulrene's sleeve to grab her attention. “I think there’s something in the lake, beneath us…” He uttered softly, not wanting to make any fuss and draw unnecessary attention on barely the first day, by simply making a big deal out of it.

Ebbing and flowing ever so gently, the water seemed tranquil down to its confined depths. The idyllic scene was unruffled by wind nor rain, but instead by the youthful squeals of excitement of the incoming first years. Indeed it was challenging not joining in the cheers, but Seul managed to maintain her collected poise, steadying her gaze across the mirror-like pool. One could describe the girl’s sentiments as a compass spinning out of control. Did the needle point towards anticipation and ecstasy of uncovering a new world? Or did it point towards its dread instead? For all the girl knew at that moment, she wanted to be here.

Seul’s eyes glanced upwards at the night sky. Trillions of stars lit up the dark expanse like shimmering snowflakes. She wondered if this was what her father saw the first time he arrived here. She knew deep down that her father felt the same, despite his stern and ascetic facade. Whilst the girl was seemingly caught in a dream from watching the stars, Klaus instead studied the enigmatic abyss. The boy looked slightly on edge as if something was bothering him. With a subtle tap, he broke Seul from her trance and redirected her attention towards the void beneath them.

“I think there’s something in the lake, beneath us…”

“Very funny,” the girl replied. Somehow, she knew Klaus was going to joke about some dangerous sea creature in the lake so she came prepared. “Obviously they wouldn’t put the mass of first years on a boat ride across a lake with dangerous creatures. Try again next time,” Seul joked. However, almost as if it was on cue, a dark shadow loomed before the two directly underneath their boat. Her midnight eyes widened so much to the point it glowed from the moon’s reflection. The cunning smirk she had on her face from exposing Klaus’s ‘joke’ suddenly dissolved into a face of fear and panic. On instinct, the girl grabbed the blond boy’s arms as if he could somehow protect her from whats below.

“Obviously they wouldn’t put the mass of first years on a boat ride across a lake with dangerous creatures. Try again next time.”

Klaus visibly frowned when Seulrene had dismissed his concern as a mere joke, not believing his words and although what she said might’ve made more sense - why would the school send off young, vulnerable, children swaying across the lake that could be filled with something so monstrous and dangerous? He wondered if the school had done it as a practical joke, or a test to prepare what the young wizards and witches to be for what is to come in the world of magic.

He began to hear voices from students nearby, starting taking notice of what he also saw. “Well, it seems that, obviously--” Quickly cut off when he felt a pair of hands wrapped around his arm, fingers gripping hold of his cloak over it. He peered at Seulrene whose eyes had widened up that the glint of moonlight reflected against them, just like how it reflected off of the lake’s surface. “--they would…” He uttered softly and simply let the girl hold onto him. Klaus knew to remain as a gentleman, even at plausible dire times that would risk his life. Though the sight itself caused the corner of his lips to twitch slyly upwards as if to display a small triumph for the girl who was keen to prove him wrong, but backfired.

So, he turned his gaze to glance at the professor who sat at the lone boat ahead of them, guiding the way. Seeking for help, Klaus instead noticed the calm and indifferent expression he held, even brushing off some student’s calls for the looming creature that was swimming by below them. “The professors don't seem to be alarmed by it, so I’ll assume that it’s harmless.” He said, feeling the grip around him tighten a bit which caused him to chuckle boyishly.

“Though, if you wish to hold on, I’d much rather you don’t grab on too tightly or you might just be able to rip my poor arm right off of its own socket, Mademoiselle.” He joked while he ran his fingers through his blonde wavy locks, peering back at Seulrene who still had a firm grip onto him.
