Don't You Have Better Things to Do?
As Ami traipsed her way outside, she knew, as always, she had a couple of options on where to go. There was always the Great Lake, which was the best spot in Hogwarts to read; the Forbidden Forest, filled with who knows what; and the Quidditch pitch, which Ami had played on (only once) and broken into (also only once). As she didn't have a book with her and didn't feel like getting mauled by an angry centaur, Ami opted to head towards the Quidditch pitch, deciding that it was most likely empty, since she knew there wasn't a Flying class going on at the moment.
Slipping inside the huge stadium, Ami headed up to the commentator's box and sat down on the bench inside of it, admiring the view from said box. The grass was green, the sky was blue, the sun was shining, the hoops were tall, the seats were peeling, and wait, was that another student, or was she just going crazy? Squinting at the figure just entering the pitch, all Ami come see was that he was most definitely male, he was most definitely from Hufflepuff, he looked to be around her height, and his hair was brown and floofy. From those simple observations, Ami decided that he was most definitely Reid Kovacs, Hufflepuff extraordinaire. Yes, she'd heard of him- after all, he was on Hufflepost, and he used to be a freaking Head Boy. What was someone like him doing out here? Surely, he had actual friends to hang out with.
Ami had half a mind to just leave right then and there, but that still meant she had to cross paths with her fellow Hufflepuff. With a reluctant grimace, she hung tight, clinging to the edge of the bench with her fingers, nearly gouging the surface. Maybe he was going to meet some of his friends here, maybe he was here to sit and read. He didn't necessarily have to come over to her and strike up a conversation- right? Right?

Don't You Have Better Things to Do?
Grass stained trousers and dirt covered shoes trudged into the pitch, his hands shoved deep into his pockets as if he had something to hide. Maybe he did. Nevertheless, Reid sat in a perpetual state of bad thoughts that gravitated around him like asteroids. In any moment, they were ready to enter his atmosphere and crash right into whatever he was enjoying. It took time getting used to telling people he was no longer the Head Boy, every time he was stopped to be asked about his lack of the badge drew the dent deeper and deeper into his chest.
This was a matter of pride for him, whatever was left of it at least. For someone like him, he didn't think that this would ever be an issue he would have to deal with. Derby and his family left him a little sheltered, failure and letting anyone down was practically a foreign feeling. But now here he was, struggling to barely deal with the fact that he snapped at someone this morning whilst eating breakfast. The topic boiled his blood faster than anything could.
Reid apologized and no feelings seemed to have been hurt, but he was embarrassed that he had done it in the first place. A annoyed huff came from the student as he entered the stands of the pitch, he looked up one of the towers to glance at the drapes. It was the black and gold of Hufflepuff, his hand came up to brush the badger with a frown. The sun was too high and he wouldn't be able to see anyone from all the way up there. "I wonder how you even get up there." Reid mused, stepping back.
As he did so, he didn't notice that the landing before was the beginning of some stairs. A simple miscalculation earned a yelp from him and sent him falling backwards down a few of the ledges. A slightly scraped hand grabbed a chair to stop himself from falling any further, otherwise he would have had a full ride down towards the balcony.
There was no injuries except his palms that suffered trying to stop him, but not a moment too soon did the boy began to breathe as if he was about to start a riot. Jaw locked and his ears burning, Reid let a noise escape through clenched teeth. "I don't get it." he spoke to no one in particular. The boy fixed himself to drag his sore body into a sitting position atop of the very set of stairs he sat on.
He leaned back to lay his head against it and stare at the sky with the tower casting a shadow on him to stop the sun from blinding him. It was one of those days. Normally, he would just laugh at this and say nothing. But everything suddenly became egg shells.

OOC: Ami is in the commentator's box you said, that's too high for him to see anyone.

Don't You Have Better Things to Do?
Ami winced as she watched Reid take a bad tumble over the platform, and nearly called out to ask if he was okay. No, stop it. You absolute idiot. He probably doesn’t even know your name- you’d sound like a creepy stalker or something. Really, you’re just a tiny, insignificant bug compared to him. Well, would you look at that? Anxiety Ami strikes again. Should she wave instead, and flash a thumbs-up? With a start, Ami suddenly realized he wouldn’t actually be able to see her; the direction of the sun, the height of the commentator’s box, and the fact that her head would barely be visible due to her slouching all contributed to the other Hufflepuff’s lack of noticing her. Also, actually getting out of the box was out of the question- he was perfectly okay, and would probably treat her appearance as an annoyance or jab at his dignity, rather than a comforting sight. After all, since when was she a comforting figure? It was quite the opposite, really.
She watched wordlessly as Reid managed to drag himself to sit on the steps of the stairs, and he leaned backward, relaxing as if he hadn’t a care in the world, as if he hadn’t nearly cracked his head open moments earlier. The auburn American sighed with jealousy, suddenly remembering all of the homework she had yet to crack open. Really, at this rate, she was going to have to repeat the first year over, when the time for exams came. Ah, finals, my old friend. Even if her notes were meticulous and copious, that didn’t mean she remembered anything she took notes about. Plus, the homework itself was a total drag. Writing articles for Hufflepost was a much better use of her time, in her opinion. Also, exploring secret passageways with Kyden and Amadea, because that type of friendship-bonding just couldn’t be beaten.
Quite ironic, really, that the Beater take a beating, some distant part of her brain whispered in an attempt to be witty. Ami cringed, but smiled fondly, remembering the pick-up Quidditch game. Reid really was quite the amazing Beater, somehow about to return each and every one of her attempted attacks. How was that even humanly possible? Should she ask him for pointers at some point? No, it wasn't like she was going to try out for the Quidditch team any time soon. She wasn’t nearly good enough for that.

Don't You Have Better Things to Do?
LACK of sleep or not, he was happy he didn't make a fool of himself in front of a large crowd. But the boy didn't want to be here, he didn't want to be in the stands watching the players. He pulled himself up to a standing position and walked over to the edge of it, hands on the railing as he looked forth towards the giant field. It was empty, but that didn't make the view any less amazing to look at - it just magnified it tenfold. The smell of the green grass from the Scottish highlands and wooden beams of the Quidditch stand filled his mind, the sounds of the cloth draped over the frames and sounds of the birds overhead.
IT was a good day, the type of day where a gentle ride on the broom with a careful touchdown wouldn't hurt. Maybe he'd be up there someday though, then he could experience that feeling as good as it seems in his head. Timid like a Hufflepuff, though foolhardy like the crimson lion, the young boy clambered on top of the railings with care. But what was to stop him from falling over? Nothing. Fear was the greatest teacher and he was feeling it without a doubt. But what compelled him to come up there was something else, Reid wouldn't know what it was now but it wasn't anything dangerous. There was a thrill he chased, momentarily blinded by the vision of glory in the skies.
JUST maybe the slight taste of it at the camp gone awry was enough to have yearned for some bit of danger. Safety was a comfort, his comfort zone was defined very much by the environment he grew up around in. But that was what stunted his newfound sense of thrillseeking. What compelled him to come up to the stands wasn't cause he wanted to see the view, Reid wanted to know what it felt like to be up here. But in just a few seconds, the boy stepped back when he heard the whip of the Hufflepuff flag from above the tower not too far from him.
IT was high, how much higher could he get. The boy bounded up the steps like a bull on a warpath. By the time he got to the top, he was out of breath and nearly stumbled on the last step. But as he got there, he noticed a girl was there with him, she seemed familiar. But the most important part was why she was even up here in the first place. "Uh ... you ... ?"

Don't You Have Better Things to Do?
Maybe it was the shock, or maybe it was the speed at which he was moving, or maybe it was an unholy combination of the two- but for whatever reason, Ami found herself glued to her perch in the box. She could only watch with wide eyes as the other Hufflepuff leapt up the stairs, almost like a gazelle- dashing up the stone steps as if he was racing against his own shadow.
Any minute, now, he would spot her, hood up and slouched over, out of uniform with her hair unbrushed. Even as she glanced left and right, she already knew from the sinking feeling in her heart that there was no where to run. He would see her anyway, ask her what she was doing up here, and she would be caught. Caught? Was it against the rules to be up here? Maybe. Well, she’d be caught out of uniform, that was for sure, but the Quidditch pitch was always open to kids... right?
And... yup, he had spotted her. “Heya, me...” Ami said in response to his half-question before trailing off, the awkward smile still lingering behind. From the blank stare on his face, it was easy to make the leap and assume he didn’t recognize her. Darn. And to think she had made a lasting impression during the school year.
“Ami- I’m Ami,” she said, her smile widening. Any more, and she’d look like the Cheshire cat- all smile and no face leftover. “We’re, uh, on Hufflepost together...? You’re...” Insert hitch of the breath, a sort of wow-ohmygosh-Ican’tbelieveit type of thing. Something a fan of a boy band would do, not a student. “You’re Reid Kovacs.”
Please don’t tell on me please don’t tell on me please don’t tell on me.
“What are you...” Ami gestured to the huge, open field helplessly, as if the gesture would explain everything she was trying to say. “What are you doing up here?”
