Battle Royale Quidditch Match

In reaction to: Link

In the wake of devastation, the death of 17, injury of 8 others and 2 missing -- the students had to cope with losses. Friends, peers, family members. All here in the morning and then gone, unexpectedly the same evening. There was no warning, the only boon being that their deaths were likely mercifully quick. There was supposed to be a match between Hogwarts' House Gryffindor and Koldovstoretz, an opportunity for the children to shine. Now with a team of three: (@Violet Carrington) Anastasia Prokovdine, (@Kazuo Shimada) Luka Volkov and (@Michael Miller) Niklaus Turgenev alternative arrangements would need to be made.

A conference of Headmasters, a series of hushed whispers, a hope to improve morale the days that follow. To not compound their sense of profound disappointment, to potentially offer students a means of distraction. The solution was simple, to cooperate. Koldovstoretz was not the only school with a promising Quidditch Team, Durmstrang had a near full school roster and they were already at the camp:
Seeker:
First String: @Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood - Valentin "Niffler" Schnell

Keeper
First String: @Erik Tharaldson - Ilian Arakov (has not posted on site since June 30)
If they message me before the match starts with an interest to play, I can give them a spot elsewhere.
Second String: @Paige Grant - Nikita Lebedev

Only short a pair of second-strings and a potentially errant Keeper.

Ilvermorny did not have the same full-team offerings:

But they could put together a scrimmage of some sort. While the full teams from the other schools (Beauxbatons, Ilvermorny and Durmstrang) were not prepared to play, there was enough of them to scrape together enough students for a game. It was the best he could do considering the circumstances. His lips had a downward slope as the impromptu committee came to a conclusion:

A three-way game between House Gryffindor and the other four schools. Participants based off an activity check of posting within the last 30 days:

They have Fearless, Sixth Sense and Evasive Maneuvers. As a team you can pick their position, no they cannot bump out another player with less stats and no your rich friends cannot but the faceless NPC a broom.

Yes, Gryffindor had the advantage from the home court to the fact that they had a team full of familiar faces, but sometimes such benefits foster a sense of security. If they resigned themselves to a sure victory they might find themselves disappointed, Durmstrang was still raw from last year's defeat, Koldovstoretz had (NPC) friends to honor and both Ilvermorny and Beauxbatons simply wanted to win.

Now new alliances could be made, a quidditch battle royale as a three-way match between the five schools promised a fresh chaos. A welcome distraction for everyone, student and Professor alike.

Battle Royale Quidditch Match
Date: Sunday, August 15, 2021
Time: 1400
Location: Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch
Weather: Sunny, hot, dry day. There is a minimal breeze from the west, the sky is mostly cloudless and brought blue. The sun is large, bright and hot. The humidity and heat is rather oppressive on this day. Expect sunburns, sun tans and lots of sweat stains by the end of this match.

A full week after what would be called "the incident" at Hogsmeade, a match would be had between Hogwart's House Gryffindor and the other four schools in an unexpected three way match involving the three surviving students from Koldovstoretz as well as the other schools in a cooperative effort to secure a victory as well as collective bragging rights on the Quidditch Pitch. This was an attempt to improve morale, alleviate the anxiety and trauma to at least a small extent in the students and most importantly provide a distraction for the student body.

Yes, it has gotten much more as the kids say "real" now that there are bodies that needed to be buried. Many of the children lacked an appetite that evening or the next few the days thereafter in spite of the house elves every effort to distract with empty calories. Perhaps that was a good thing, one could not be sure that these brooms would carry the kids if they housed too many pies in a sitting.

The actual stadium was filled with students, their professors and even house elves. It was a celebration of talent in the wake of trying times. The claps and the cheers of the crowd would drown out most chatter.

Onto the pitch a well dressed, somewhat flamboyant man would provide the spectators with a a welcoming statement. "Good afternoon honorable guests, ladies, gentlemen, boys, girls and students. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to a Quidditch match between our five schools: Hogwarts, Ilvermorny, Koldovstoretz, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Ms Natasha Pavlova, headmistress of Koldovstoretz who has brought her students all the way here from Russia to enjoy the summertime season." There was a burst of applause but there was a lack of heart in it, guilt or awkwardness perhaps. "As well as a moment of silence for the 17 lost this past week due to an act of terror," he added as he bowed his head.

An eerie silence would fall over the stadium that not all would honor or course. Just a week earlier they had laid to rest seventeen of their peers. A raw topic for some, others were still in denial of the incident and preferred it that way.

But as they say in the theatre, the show must go on...

"Quidditch matches such as this are important for all of our schools. It’s the day when students are freed from their classrooms, freed from the fetters of learning. It is a day for a mother to put her children on their toes and for fathers to cheer for the little ones. It is a day for red faces and perspiration wet t-shirts and shorter shots are the order of the day. It’s a day for starter guns for teachers with swizzles." He gave the crowd a bit of a smile as he continued on.

"School sports day is for cameras and smiling faces. It’s a day for triumphs and disasters. Speeches are given and medals are presented and overall It’s a day for sportsmanship and making memories."

"This day speaks for the commitment that all in the school hold for sports and what a great thing sport is on so many levels. Beyond the obvious health and activity benefits, sports can teach us much about life."

"It teaches us about teamwork, it teaches us how to get along with others, it teaches us how to work together to achieve a common goal. It’s also about trust and responsibility and about dealing with success and failure. Something all of us know a lot about, but we do not need to wallow in loss of failure, we can honor memories and make one another as well as ourselves proud."

"It is with that I wish all of the players the best of luck,"
with a wave of his hand and the wand held in his fingers a blast of light would erupt from the tip, resembling a burst of fireworks which would summon the students from all five of the schools to fly out onto the pitch.

The rising first-year quite honestly looked completely shaken and perhaps she was. It didn't show in her hairstyle or Quidditch robes, both were immaculate as always. From a distance, one might not notice anything odd but all it took was a look at her face to dissuade the onlooker of that notion.

As much as she loved Quidditch, playing under such circumstances made her stomach turn. The idea that the other team was simply dead hadn't entirely sunk in for her. The fact that Gryffindor had twice as many opponents as normal was something that ought to have terrified her, but she had barely taken notice of it. The idea that those other students had been alive just over a week ago and were killed in an instant seemed wrong. Like it ought not to happen. People died when they were ill, schoolchildren weren't supposed to just die.

She tried to shake herself out of her thoughts as she mounted her broom. Shaken as she was, she knew she could do this. Playing Quidditch was something that she knew made sense unlike 17 students being alive one minute and dead the next. Swallowing hard, she mentally prepared herself to begin the game.

Long story short, I survived

Charles did want to play quidditch. He spent most of his time practicing the sport or building muscles, anything he could to train for matches.

Now the opportunity rose. Charles got to play in a quidditch match as a first string chaser. Shouldn't he be happy? Shouldn't that be a positive thing? Only it wasn't.

Charles stared at himself in the mirror of his cabin for the longest he ever stared at himself. At worried about his weight or appearance this time but his mental state.

The quidditch match that day was suppose to be between Koldovstoretz and Hogwarts. Suppose to. Planned for. That was before the team was attacked and students from the school were killed.

Charles felt his stomach drop. He felt sick. A part of him wanted to skip the match, to stay in bed and pretend that he was sick. So he didn't need to play in a match that wasn't even suppose to include him, so he could avoid everyone.

Only thing Charles couldn't. He couldn't bring himself to play down and pretend to be sick. He couldn't ignore the feeling that if he stayed then his team may lose the match.

Charles took a breath. Even if something seemed wrong or bad things happened, you can't do anything about it and have to continue moving forward.

Charles grabbed his broom and went down to the Hogwarts quidditch pitch.

Upon setting foot there, he would look around. The stands, the hoops, the sensation in the air. It was all still there. Charles took a breath and instantly was looking for Cassie, who he would smiled toward and mouth "good luck" to before falling in with the rest of his team.

Charles would stand besides his team, now realizing something. Both Arjan and Nikita are second string players. Both will be on the bench. If Charles ever wanted to mess with either them, this would be the perfect time to mess with them both.

A small smile for a moment on his face before it faded and he remained focused. Focused on the match.

Three Ilvermorny students would join majority of the Dumstrang team for the three way match. It was new and rather odd but the blonde was willing to try it, it could work and be fun.

Charles heard of who they will be facing from Hogwarts. Gryffindor. Scarlett Aden or Red was from that house. Charles was looking forward to crushing her at quidditch, maybe he could take a beaters bat and send a few bludgers at the girl. A penalty lap would be worth it.

Charles took his mind off of the memory when the headmaster of the other school started to speak.

A moment of silence for the 17 from Koldovstoretz who died in the attack some say was from SCAR.

Charles looked down, holding his broom down. Silence over took him. Again that feeling, that feeling that he shouldn't be playing. This shouldn't be happening but it was.

Charles looked up again at the sound of his voice, talking about teamwork and unity and such. Charles found it dull but kept a focused face as he would lean over to Nikita and whisper "enjoy the bench Nikita and try not to break a leg," Charles would smirk at the girl before taking his position and focused mind.

When the headmaster wished them luck and Charles saw the firework like light from.his wand, he would mount his broom and look toward Nikita as he whispered "watch and learn Nikita since you could use a class," Charles then turned and pushed his feet aginest the ground.

Taking to the sky. Charles took a breath, smiling to felt a little bit good to be back in the sky.

Eyes ahead. Mind focused and ready. Let's play some quidditch.

Luka had been looking forward to this game for months. He had worked hard all year with his teammates to get here. Yet as he waited to enter the field, the joy he would normally have felt was not there. It had been stripped from him by the callous cruelty of people he didn't know, terrorists who had murdered those very teammates who should have been standing beside him today. He looked at Ana and Nik, giving them a sad smile. They were all that was left. They had been thrown together with members of the Beaux Batons team, a decision that allowed them to continue the match in some form. He gave his temporary teammates a friendly smile, thankful that they had been willing to support Koldovstoretz.

"For our fallen teammates! Let us show that our spirit is not broken!" He encouraged Ana and Nik then mounted his broom and took to the skies, a Koldovstoretz banner in one hand as he circled the stadium. He took his place in front of the hoops, waving the banner proudly as the others entered. His heart ached for those who could not fly with him this day but he would not let it show. He had cried enough for their loss. Today he would be strong for his friends, those who had survived. He would smile and he would cheer and he would make sure those murderers knew that they could not take that away from him.

"Koldov! Koldov! Koldov!" He chanted loudly.

Nikita didn't have the heart to brag she was right the whole time. Knowing. Fact, she didn't think this would actually happen~ those deaths. She thought that students would be safe. Sure, they weren't from her school, but they were still students. They lost their lives, they lost their chances to make changes in this world as adults.

They lost it all.

So for once in her life, she stayed silent. She didn't talk much, all she could think about was what happened. But Hogwarts wanted to take everyone's mind off of this event, which was good. A good old game of quidditch would be perfect. Hard work always took her mind from her troubles, and this provided a good opportunity to make fun of Alluring.

When she got to the pitch, she listened to the man and fell silent once more for the fallen.

She had gotten her gear on quickly to avoid seeing Alluring because he knew he was would make a comment about her being benched. As predicted, he did speak to her. " Ill get a nice view of your humiliation. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said from me to you. Hope you break a leg, literally. " She said. "Learn what? How to suck? Thanks but I can already learn how to do that by watching you at practice. " She watched him take off before glancing around to see who else was benched, Arjan, apparently.

The Quidditch match had already been announced, and since the day that she knew that it was actually going to take place after the Hogsmeade explosion, Anastasia was feeling pride revolve inside her. They were not going to play with their actual teammates - who were dead -, but they were going to play with another school, Beauxbatons, splitting their school pride in half. One thing was for sure, Anastasia was very proud, and she was not happy about this. However, she would not leave the match, for she felt like she owed something to her fallen teammates. And that was to play and to win.

Upon entering the Quiddich Pitch, she took her school broom, looked at Luka, and when she saw him smile, she smiled back at him, though she wasn't feeling so cheerful. Her stomach revolved as she remembered that she had to play against not one, but two schools. She had to go against two seekers to find that snitch. How was that even possible? Her eyes turned around the roaring crowd in the stands, from every school that came to Hogwarts; Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, Koldovstoretz, Hogwarts. Another pang of panic hit her stomach as she grasped the broom more firmly. She had this game under control. All she had to do was play as she had done at the conservatory.

Looking at her ''team'', or whatever they were now, Anastasia simply said: ''Good luck.'' as she kicked the ground.

Under different circumstances, Mel would have been upset about being chosen for
second-string and therefore, benched. She was clearly a better player than that Third Year "Niffler" guy from Durmstrang. However, the recent terrorist attack had rattled her in a way not much could. Seventeen deaths?! She hadn't known any of the students, but still. This was a lot to process. It had snapped her right out of the "secret-world-of-magic-la-la-la-everything's-incredible-I'm-living-in-a-dream-and-nothing-can-hurt-me" mindset she realized she'd been living with ever since finding out she was a witch. Sure, magic was real, but that didn't mean that those who possesed it weren't dangerous. This was real life, and not everything was as it seemed.

Many of the other campers seemed shocked and/or upset as well. Maybe this Quidditch game was just what they needed. A little fresh air and some healthy competition. Even benched, Mel would support her "team" to the best of her abilities. She'd stretched and eaten a healthy breakfast before the match, just in case she got put in, and while she hadn't brought a giant foam finger or anything, she was prepared to cheer and clap whenever necessary. And perhaps do a bit of backseat-driving if they really needed it.
Speaking of the "team". Because of the murders, there hadn't been enough players to
have the teams they'd all planned on. So instead of playing with her Ilvermorny team mates whom she'd practiced with and gotten to know all year, Mel would be a part of a mish-moshy, chaotic, inter-school team. Nevermind, she would make the best of it.

On the bench with her were three other kids. A red-haired Durmstrang girl whom she'd heard being called Nikita, a stuck-up Horned Serpent called Silver, whom she'd seen in the halls back in the U.S. but never really met, and an arrogant, muscle-clad boy called Arjan who, in her opinion, had been way too loud and much too cocky all summer.

Her inner assessment of her peers was interrupted by the game, about to start. As the players took their places and pushed off into the air, Mel couldn't help but be bitter that she wasn't up there with them, soaring through the sky and chasing after that snitch.

She turned to her benchmates. "May as well settle in, folks. We might be here for a while."

Note: I am not my character. She is very opinionated, generally a bit too judgy, and not always 100% likeable. (Also, she is grumpy on this particular occasion because of her benched-ness.) I do not necessarily share her views, so please do not get offended by anything Mel might say or think about your character.

Madhup was known as many things, but somber was not one of them.

As a student, he put forth an adequate effort just to get by, showing no notable love of academics. As a person, he was warm and quick with a joke, though these traits typically presented themselves as ribbing everyone around him. As a player, he was boastful, cunning, and fiercely competitive. Madhup was frankly unafraid of penalties, willing to do whatever it took to see his team succeed. There was little he loved more than Quidditch. Magical homework was still homework, but a magical game was always bound to be fun. The moment his boots left the ground, he felt weightless, limitless, invincible. Wind whipping through his hair, balls barreling by and spectators screaming, these were things which filled his heart with joy and purpose. However, he was not having any fun at all in the current atmosphere. The news of that dark tragedy hung over the crowd like a great weight. Typically, when a moment of silence was called, Madhup was the one to break it with an armpit fart or obnoxious fake cough. Today, even he held his tongue, glancing around uneasily before frowning at his feet. An effort was made to rattle his team from the gloom: "Wake up, let's fly! Durmstrang still owes these smelly Hogs for that last game."

Where this would usually be followed with taunts and funny faces for their opponents, Madhup did not seem to have the heart for all that nonsense today, or at least, not yet.

The fourth, well, near fifth year was quite excited for the game, though also a little saddened knowing that it would be his last. Though it was a little uplifting that this match would be special and different from all the other matches he had played before and even more complicated than what he had gotten used to know. Though he would do his best this game not to disappoint his team, to leave it with them proud rather than happy that they would have a handicap less. The prefect shook his head slightly as his eyes wandered through the mass of students who were watching from the stands, and he would raise his hand and wave lightly in the direction of familiar house banners. Today he wouldn't just try to make his house proud, they were fighting in the name of the whole school, so he found it only accurate to greet the other students of Hogwarts as well.

He would mount his broom as soon as the okay was given and kick himself off the ground and into the air, to ready himself in his flight position, his eyes on both Rafael and Evelynn to await any kind of sign on what their game plan would be. He truly hoped that Gryffindor could deliver and show they were the superior team, not because he felt like it was a matter of who is best, but because as any game, this fed into his ambition and made adrenaline course through his blood.
