Quidditch Game Hufflepuff v Slytherin

Image posted by the member

It was the second series of matches for the year: Gryffindor v Ravenclaw and Slytherin v Hufflepuff. Gryffindor started the year off strong, defeating Slytherin in their first game of the year. Hufflepuff has also had an incredibly strong start, after being undefeated last year Hufflepuff continued this tradition and won their first game of the year. There were a number of students as well as Professors who had their presumptions on who would win in this match also, certain students had made a name for themselves and in some small way perhaps earned an iota of fame.

In this match Slytherin will be going head to head against Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff being an undefeated team throughout last year, Slytherin would have to bring their best game forward if they want to bring home the win. Their experienced Team Captain @Dan Palmer and co-captain @Tyranni Whitethorn had tried hard last year. This year might be a better year. They bring with them a powerful line-up of students including first-string Seeker the barefooted (in this weather?) @Dan Palmer and second string Seeker @Flash Holmwood, first string Keeper @Koko Riddle and second string the infamous @Thomas LeStrange, their chasers include @Nico Shymane,@Thora Larkson and @Tyranni Whitethorn for their first string as well as well-regarded Headliner writer @Alexx Severin as their second string, their beaters include the questionable @Erin Ryan and @Cassandra Ironwoods as their first string as well as @Percival Rainwood who occupied their second string.

Hufflepuff would exhibit a threatening front line as well. Veteran captain @Quinn Healy and co-Captain @Ami Procoppio were already well on their way towards winning another year flawlessly. In their first string Seeker role they had @Ethen Emrys and @Stanley Buttons in the second string role. Their Keeper @Atlas Reid was the only thing holding their second string dhampir @Howard White at bay on the bench, their first-string beaters included none other than the intimidating part-giant @Quinn Healy and less intimidating but dangerous @Lindsey Springhall as well as second string beater @Ami Procoppio, finally their chasers included @Aaron Jones, @Serena Bowen and newcomer @Heinrich Bezuidenhout as well as second string chaser @Aspen Summers.
The Date: Sunday February 7th.
The Time: 12 noon.
Weather: Brisk, windy and cold. A recent snowfall has frosted the ground in an icy rime.
Despite the chill, students as well as Professors would fill the stadium seats bundled to keep out the chill. It was surprisingly warm, the shared space of so many allowed a sort of comfortable radiant heat to keep the chill down to a reasonable level. The Quidditch players were of course not quite so fortunate. It was bitter cold, the biting winds would make their skin red and chapped. The need for gloves as well as warm clothes made the students appear larger than normal (no statistical effect, this is merely flavor).

This match will be moderated by @Evelynn Decipio

Quidditch Game Hufflepuff v Slytherin
It was indeed a cold day, too cold in fact to have a game. The sky a mixture of grey ash and strands of white, the sun fought to break through the clouds. A bit of cold weather was hardly enough to keep the Slytherin down, she would look back at her team. For whatever reason, likely a severe lapse in judgement, @Thomas LeStrange had joined the Quidditch Team since their last game against Gryffindor. A scowl would overtake her lovely features, not that it was a far cry from the resting bitch face the both of them adorned. "Stop stalking me loser," Erin would call out to the pond dweller.

She was bundled in her Quidditch Gear. A thin, yet warm layer of clothes between herself and the armor was all the she wore to keep the elements at bay. She was not going to risk being called out for failing to meet regulation. She would mount her broom, a Silver Arrow like what most of her teammates drove and fly onto the pitch. Erin was a lot of things, but she was if nothing else a proficient Quidditch player. She would loop around the perimeter of the pitch, both hands on the broom shaft. They were not cheering for her, she knew that, but she waved anyways.

The part Veela would find her place on the field and calmly watch as the Hufflepuffs filtered onto the pitch. Last year they were unstoppable. Most would blame @Serena Towers for their successes, former Head Girl and former first string Seeker, she had a strange ability to find herself in favorable positions perpetually. It was incredibly suspicious. Yet if it was Serena that had carried the team to victory, it was only because of her incredible luck. She felt that the greatest asset of the team was @Quinn Healy, the part giant cannibal that terrorized the school these past four years. The boy was a living wall, dangerous and in dire need of defeat. He was the only one that she wanted to truly take on.

"Captain!" Erin called out to @Dan Palmer, subtly was never her strong suit. "I want the goliath" in other words Quinn. The boy was basically big enough to be three of them, hitting him would be like trying to hit the broad side of a barn if the barn could punch back.

This was it. The match she'd been gearing up for since the second she'd been told that she was co-captain of the Badgers. There was a lot riding on this match, and while Ami wouldn't be flying (and hopefully, she wouldn't have to), she could feel the pressure from the other team, the spectators in the stands, and even her own team.

1. For some odd reason, her mother was more than convinced that the Slytherin Quidditch team that she knew from when she'd gone to Hogwarts was the best in the world, and its legacy would've carried on until today. Anytime Ami had broached the topic of Quidditch over winter break, Abella would immediately go off on a tangent about how incredible all the players were, and how handsome the captain was, much to her father's chagrin. While she understood house pride and all, Ami was more than ready to show her mother that in her generation, the badgers reigned supreme.

2. That stupid Quidditch article. Normally, Ami rarely read any of the articles in the Headliner, even if she was on the team- reading simply wasn't something she enjoyed. However, she would always make an exception for the Quidditch section, and something Lestrange had written enraged her. It made her blood boil. How dare he claim that Slytherin would go undefeated this year? Even if Gryffindor had already beaten them in the fall, Ami was determined to see them go winless this year.

3. There were so many people she desperately wanted to impress on the Slytherin team. Mainly Alexx, but now the sentiment had extended to Erin, as well. But it seemed to be a lose-lose situation, regardless- should Hufflepuff win, Slytherin would mourn. Should Slytherin win, they'd be happy, but Hufflepuff would have an uphill battle in order to get the Cup this year.

Clapping her hand on @Quinn Healy's shoulder, Ami's eyes held his for a brief moment, unusually solemn. "Fly high, Captain," she muttered, the phrase slowly becoming her good luck mantra. "Godspeed." Pushing through the rest of her team, she also sought out @Ethen Emrys, smiling gently at the younger Hufflepuff. "Ignore the other team's Beaters, and focus on the Snitch. We get that golden bastard, and we've got this game in the bag," she said, awkwardly patting him on the head. "Fly high, Emrys."

With that, she would make her way over to the bench, eyeing the other team warily. Her eyes would widen when she caught a familiar face, and not a certain blonde one that she was more than enamored with.

Thomas was on the Slytherin team? When the hell did that happen?

"Shit, where's Howard..." she muttered, quickly picking out the tall and looming dhampir amongst her teammates. From her experience, the animosity between Thomas and @Howard White was a kill-on-sight type of deal, and she did not want that happening today. "Howard, over here!" she yelled, waving her hand wildly as she beckoned the second string Keeper over. "Sit by me, would you?" she pleaded desperately, gesturing for him to sit at the very end of the bench as far away from the Slytherin team as possible. "I need someone's arm to stress-punch when things get sticky, I think you'd be the only person who can take it..."

Too adrenalized to sit down properly, Ami cast her eyes to the center of the field where the players would be mounting their brooms. "Let's go, Badgers! Easy dubs, easy dubs!"

Howard stood just outside the Hufflepuff locker room as his eyes scanned the pitch before him. Excitement coursed through his body has he anticipated the match. Badgers versus snakes! He itched to get in on the action but he would do his best to cheer on his team and fellow Keeper from the bench. It was going to be an exciting display of Quidditch as both teams had decent rosters. Howard looked forward to seeing Erin's capabilities up close, although he said a prayer to the sports gods that she wouldn't decimate his entire team. There was also the prospect of Thomas potentially taking a Bludger to the face and he was amped to watch the new Huffles in action. What more could you ask for on a cold winter's day.

The voice of his co-captain would reach his ears as Ami called him over to join her on the bench. "Alright, I'm comin'." Howard replied with a smile and took up a seat next to her. "Here goes nothin'! Alright Hufflepuff! Knock 'em dead!" He joined her in cheer.

Broom: Twigger 90 - In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

To be honest, he hadn't been expecting it. Flash had signed up on the wait list for the Slytherin Quidditch team very soon after he arrived at Hogwarts. He had no reason to think that the previous second-string Seeker or Dan Palmer himself would have any reason to step down from their position, and could at best fill in once they graduated. Instead, he was a second-year, and feeling somewhat unprepared. Perhaps the idea that it would never happen was a bit of a comfort, since it made it easy to concentrate on other things. Not now though, as he was more than happy to return to team sports. Back when he was going to boarding school in Durham, his football team were his only friends. Now at Hogwarts he could once again say that he was a member of a team. Even if he was really just a bench warmer.

He knew Hufflepuff, after all. Had seen several of their games at this point. They were usually over quickly, almost alarmingly so. If for some reason Flash needed to take to the sky, they were likely losing badly. No one wants the second-string Seeker on the field, it's basically a desperate back-up. Still, he didn't want to resign himself to inactivity either. If he was caught off-guard, he could end up being an embarrassment for the whole team. Better to expect to fly in at any moment, even if it meant being tense and uncomfortable.

At the very least, he really wanted Slytherin to win. They lost their first match, arguably thanks to the Gryffindor's luck, and now they were faced with the international championship team in Hufflepuff. Of course, the team changed around a bit, Miss Serena retired, but he saw Ethen catching the snitch last game. Over in a split second as usual. Frustrating. How satisfying it would be to finally cut that winning streak in twain.

Shivering slightly, Flash looked out as the rest of the bench started filling in. There had been a few minor changes to the team over winter break. Alexx moved to second string, Thomas joined the team. Tyranni and Thora were now first-string Chasers. And of course, Flash himself. His stomach churned in anticipation of the match's start. It would be nice to have someone to talk to.

Today was the day. Match number two of the 2020-21 season, a match that Hufflepuff had to win to maintain their undefeated streak. Aaron Jones had been practicing for this match almost every day in January (and quite a bit at the end of last year as well). During the last match in October, Aaron had done a decent job at getting the quaffle and scoring. Not as good as he would've liked, but there was always room for improvement. Today, he would show his improvement!

That October match had ended with Aaron getting knocked out of the sky by a bludger just as @Ethen Emrys caught the snitch. A win for Hufflepuff, but a bit of a loss for Aaron. It had been his first serious hit from a bludger and his first ever fall from his broom - two things that had kept him from getting back on his broom for most of November. If it weren't for his friends and his teammates, he may not have mentally recovered in time to practice for this match. And now the newly-turned thirteen-year-old was here and ready to kick butt. Sure, he was eyeing the still-chained bludgers warily as the team made its way onto the field, but his focus should always be the quaffle. He was a chaser, and if it was part of the strategy that the Captains came up with, that red ball was going to stick to him like glue this round.

Although the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team had lost @Annie Morgan from the team due to a really tragic accident over winter, they had gained a new chaser by the name of @Heinrich Bezuidenhout. And there was a new second-string chaser @Aspen Summers. Both of them were first years, and Aaron hoped they would be valuable additions to the team. @Serena Bowen was a chaser he was much more familiar with, as she had been part of the team since before even him, so she was the one he stuck closer to as they made their way onto the field.

Despite the blonde girl beside him being on the team a bit longer, Aaron was determined to prove to @Thomas Lestrange that he was Hufflepuff's next most valuable chaser. According to the article that had been published in December, that title had belonged to Annie. That had made perfect sense at the time since she played more games than rookie Aaron, but he was sure his name was the one that should be gracing the Headliner next. He wanted it badly. He wanted his name to be plastered over every Quidditch newspaper one day. This was just the start.

"Let's go, Hufflepuff!" Aaron shouted as the team mounted their brooms and made laps around the stadium together. Once back at the starting place, Aaron placed himself in position and got ready for the referee to release the balls. His brown eyes blocked out the distraction of the spectators - he only had eyes for the quaffle and the other team. He would, of course, be keeping an eye out for the cues from his Captains - @Quinn Healy and @Ami Procoppio - but he also knew how to trust his gut.

Aaron briefly looked over the other team's chasers - @Nico Shymane, @Thora Larkston and @Tyranni Whitethorn. They were all formidable opponents. He knew Tyranni - also the Co-Captain of Slytherin - from classes they shared being second years and all. Nico he had met during a relay errand last school year, plus she was a Slytherin prefect. Thora he recognized from spectating past games, but she used to be a second-string keeper he thought. These three would be his likely opponents in battling for the quaffle this game. He had never been up against the Slytherin team before, and he was sure it would be a tough game, but he was prepared to give it his all.

It feel like only yesterday Cash attended their first match for Quidditch. A lot have had happened in their life between the last match up until today. For the second match, the house of serpent will play against the house of badger. Earlier this year; one of Cash good friend, Lindsey Springhall had informed them she is the first string beater for her house.

Both of the beaters practice in friendly manner a month ago but since this match will represented their houses, Cash needed to get their head in the game. Though Lindsey is a friend of the purple hair, if they need to whacked the iron ball toward her, Cash will do so. Dress in olive green turtleneck under their Quidditch robe.

They also wear black fleece sweatpants, a set of glove to keep their hands warm from the biting cold air. Under all the get up, Cash wear a set of long john underwear to keep their body warm. A newly sent snow googles from their mother is perched on top of their head. They wear it incase the wind blew hard.

The goggles are there to protect Cash's eyes from the wind. The green eyes learnt their lesson. Never underestimate the weather. In their first match, Cash tried so hard not to shivered from the cold wind and rain that down poured hard against their skin. It seems today weather are not so different from the previous match.

In fact it is so much colder. Cash check one more time for their equipments. Once they wear the necessary protection equipments for their position, the young socialite grabbed their bat and the school broom. Cash walked out from Slytherin Locker Room onto the pitch ready to play for this match against Hufflepuff.

Dan was mildly nervous. He was still mildly depressed after that game with Gryffindor, despite how he was PRETTY sure they had cheated somehow...
And now, he had to deal with the Champion team of last year: Hufflepuff.

As usual, Dan had a strategy. He saw the method by which to win, the only matter was accomplishing it.
He found that Hufflepuff had won yet again against Ravenclaw. Wonderful.

He took a deep breath, checked his broom and his uniform for the umpteenth time, and flew out. Dressed as usual in Quidditch: Quidditch uniform and bare feet. He flew around the field with his teammates, and waved to the crowd.

He knew what Erin wanted. She even told him after he knew in the first place. But, he had a plan. And he had to stick to it.
He signaled his team what to do, and looked at Erin with a grin.

"Rampage across the field to yer heart's content."

Lucky. It was cold today. Terribly cold. Others would shiver to their bones and find it possibly hard to stay warm. Not for this redhead. With a steady pace, the dhampir walked onto the field, her faithful Tinderblast being held in one hand. To an outsider, she'd look like she fattened up during the last few days but not quite so. Her go-to attire existed out of a black turtleneck sweater, a fluffy blue sweater on top of that, keeping her tophalf cosy and toasty.
A pair of tights with a fluffy inside firmly hugged her legs. Not to mention the black legwarmers holding onto her calves underneath the protective Quidditch gear.

A black headband, slid over her ears, protecting them against the cold and sharp gusts of wind. From out her turtle neck, up to the highest part of her nose, a black mouthmask with a pattern of a row of white shark teeth covers the lower half of her face. A soft cloud of her breath echoing out every so often.

Again, she stayed away from most of her teammates, however, her eyes lingered a little longer on both @Thomas Lestrange and @Erin Ryan . Just long enough to see if they were in a good shape today. Not that they would notice. As far as she could tell.

Taking in a deep breath, Nico steadily got on her broom, levitating up. As she slowely ascended to the field in the sky, she fitted her pair of fluffy blue shark mittens onto her hands. It had a part that could be removed so the fingers were only partly covered in a warm fabric. It gave more grip yet a little comfort too.

Without saying another word, the dhampir got mentally ready to get started. However, she did glance at @Quinn Healy every once in a while. Just enough to not be drawn into his entire being.

Lovely Creature

Effect: You are very distracting to look at. This increases the Control DC of spells in duels and adventures by +2 as well as the DC for finding things in adventures or the DC for finding the snitch in a game of Quidditch. This ability does not stack.

Unsetteling Aura

A Dhampir's Unsettling Aura becomes noticeable. This is created by their presence. It is that uncanny feeling one gets where the small hairs on the back of their neck stand on end and the flesh on their arms turn to gooseflesh. It is as if the room itself was turned down by several degrees and one's heart was filled with a foreboding sense.

Effect: This represented as a 10% auto-fail rate for anyone besides the Dhampir (or other Dhampirs) to perform an action or cast a spell. Unfortunately, this prevents a dhampir from being hidden (entering stealth) when in use. As such any attempts to be hidden in a topic while this is on would automatically fail. However, a dhampir can turn off their aura at the cost of an action (unlike those that have the ability terrible presence) and as an action turn back on their aura. This ability does not stack in intensity when multiple Dhampirs have it activated.
Broom : Tinderblast

In the role of Chaser, as a free action if the user of this broom is successful in the quafflegrab they can as a free action pass the Quaffle to another user in an attempt to score. There is a chance of the quaffle being intercepted, however due to the fact that the user is "so fast" with the quaffle this would be considered "surprising" and the attempt to score would be done at +3 accuracy by the player it was passed to in an attempt to score.

Note: The attempt to score would be an automatic attempt by the user that catches the passed quaffle.

You're gonna need a bigger boat
